Thank you very much Felipe. The Amaro Freitas sounds very intriguing. Charles lloyd is always a gift as well. Altera Vita looks like it deserves exploration. Happy new year, Tony
This is a great list. Thank you for sharing! I’m surprised that some of my favorites didn’t make it but as you said, it’s speaks to how great the jazz releases were. Surprised to not see many blue note releases (a ton of good stuff - Julian Lage and Joel Ross to name two) and I’m a big fan of the UK jazz scene so I would have loved more of those releases mention (Shabaka, Jasmine Myra, Greg Foat, etc). Thanks for sharing this!
Thank you for your insightful video and your dedication to new music on vinyl. You included several of my favorites for 2024, which makes me excited to check out the “new to me” releases on your list. One of my 2024 favorites not on your list, but near the top of mine is Tyshawn Sorey’s THE SUSCEPTIBLE NOW on Pi Recordings. Great List!
Great record as well. My favorite with Sorey was Compassion, on ECM, with Vijay, which should be in the video but left out by mistake. I’m still going back to it. Thanks for watching! F
Thanks Felipe for the sharing. I didn't heard of most of these records. I am a great fan on International Anthem. Being in Europe, I usually look for the londonian scene (maybe not so much at the moment) And of course for the French artists like Florian Pelissier or Pierrick Pedron (I'm waiting for his new album in vinyl - covering Ornette). Take care. Bonnes fêtes de fin d'année. Bruno
Great choices. Thank you for, Filipe! Only very few channels including the Jazz Bums strongly influenced my purchases in 2024. Nearly entirely moving away from AS, BNTP, BNC … reissues, the newly emerging resp. lesser known established artists on smaller labels got the lion share of my wallet. Various releases by International Anthem are now in my new IARC shelf section. Jaimie Branch (no longer alive), Cassie Kinoshi, Jeff Parker, Makaya McCraven, Asher Gamedze, of course. Kahil El’Zabar‘s spiritual Jazz releases on Spiritmuse are phenomenal. All of Jerome Sabbagh‘s albums, lately on his new Analog Tone Factory label. David Brahja Feldman’s s/t on RRGems and David Murray & Co’s Plumb on JMI are great discoveries, jaw dropping. The Cellar Live label with its Charles Tolliver and Heavy Hitters live albums, and Brian Charette‘s new album. Cristiano Giardini and Paolo Recchi under the Italian Bird Box Records label. Some of ECM‘s Luminessence series reissues. Admittedly, a few OJCs filled some of my gaps. Please continue to promote the living artists and/or smaller labels in 2025. It‘s a rewarding and fair „investment“ for all contributors and us fans of great music. In addition, for the prices of those super treated deluxe whatever reissue releases one can get many more great sounding quality records :-) with a lasting listening experience. Happy Holidays to all you jazz bums out there.
Wow, that’s an amazing list, and listening to this type of music feels refreshing and it’s very rewarding. I also have several of those and they’re terrific. And I’ll surely check the ones I haven’t listened to yet. Thanks for watching! F
I AM A 65 YEAR JAZZ ADDICT . YOU ARE SOME OF THE MOST KNOWLEDGEABLE BUMS IN DA COUNTRY. WE HAVE LOTS TO LEARN FROM YOU GUYS. THE FALL DOWN IS THIS THERE ARE MANY MANY OPINIONATED GUYS. BUT WHO WOULD EVER GET TO HEAR THE STUFF? I HAVE WORKED FOR MOST OF THE MAJORS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF PRESTIGE FAMILY. RATHER THAN YOUR VERBAL NARRATIVE IF YOU WANT IT BAD ENOUGH WHETHER YOU AFFILIATE WITH PAT OR SUBS LICENSE SOME OF YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS . UNTIL THEN ?
Thanks for this list! I definitely agree with Cassie Kinoshi's “seed.” Here are a few other great jazz records released this year. Matthew Shipp: New Concepts in Piano Trio Jazz; David Murray Quartet: Francesca; Vijay Iyer Trio: Compassion; Tomin: A Willed and Conscious Balance; Tord Gustavsen Trio: Seeing; The Necks: Bleed. The Neck's record is the best (in my opinion), and one could make a plausible argument that this band is the best trio since Jarrett, Peacock and DeJohnette.
@@anthonygudwien6992 compassion was actually in the video, just a matter of making it short. Fantastic. Dave Murray as well, including Marta Sanchez’s solo record which is also great. 2024 was a phenomenal year. We have one more recap video with the three of us coming, Compassion will be there. Thanks for watching! F
Great heads up on the Luke Stewart Silt Trio. May become my 1st record purchase in 2025 if I get confirmation from someone that the pressing by GZ, which is often a miss and sometimes a hit, is of acceptable quality.
Hey Filipe, Happy Holidays and thanks for the informative video. Several of your record choices were rather obscure, at least to me, and so I wish you would have given the covers a little more screen time. You are a handsome fellow and I don't mind looking at you, but I'd like to see a bit more of the records themselves. Thanks so much.
@vtertezedre2621 thanks for the comment, there’s always ways we can make it better. Links will be added to the description. But most of these can be checked at your preferred streaming service, and also bandcamp. Thanks for watching. F
