What I have in my Motorcycle Camping Bag?

    Let’s see what I have in my camping bag!
    After my last video about the necessary gear for long motorcycle trips I have received a lot of commends what I have in my camping bag. In this video I will show you what exactly I have in.
    First of all I think that you get me wrong. I love camping and I do it every time I feel the need to do it. For example if I see a great spot and I just want to spend the night there or when I cannot find a hotel.
    I will agree that there nothing better than to wake up o a beautiful place and enjoy the silence. I did it many times and really enjoyed, but what I wanted to say is that to have this amazing experience you don’t need to bring half of your kitchen stuff with you.
    I was the same like you. Started with all the stuff that you have at the moment. Heavy tent, big mattress, stove, cocking plates, additional bottle for extra fuel for the stove and many more, but after few trips I realized that I use it just few times and I did it because I have it with me, not because I really need to.
    Then I switch it to minimalist mode and everything become much easier. For example if I ride and see beautiful spot and I want to camp there that is fine I can do it, because I have the tent with me. Ok, I don’t have the cocking stuff and the stove, but it is not a problem to buy some food from a local supermarket or restaurant and eat it in the camp.
    For me the important part is to enjoy the spot and the company I have. For that purpose I don’t need much. It is like to go on a nice dinner with friends and instead of enjoying the meal and the company to focus on the restaurant furniture, the plates, the forks and spoons. I hope you will understand what I mean. Enough talks let’s open my bag.
    Actually I found the tent: www.loap.eu/po...

    From a Harley with tons of gear to a 150cc scooter with minimal weight carrying capacity I have learned the lesson of less is best.. I take the basics... Shelter, cooking, food and water... But I watch every ounce (gram) and it pays off in handling, mileage and best of all....my ability to downsize... good vid

    In addition to the sleeping bag you can always take Zippo hand warmer with you. Put it inside and forget about the cold :).

    Cooking? Just eat!😀👍
    Like the minimalistic approach, nobody needs 50kgs of luggage to start an adventure. If you still lack ideas how to travel light have a look at bike packing from bicycle riders. 2 medium sized side boxes will take you a long way, from there you just add comfort.

    They may have better, and more expensive, ways to carry food/drink to keep cold items. I found used baby formula travel bags are cheap and work to keep things cold for awhile on the bike. You can roll them up and strap them down when not in use. Not exactly what you are recommending, but I travel and found in the desert that it helps to carry some fruit and other and this allows for a temporary use (heat quickly ruins fruit). If your digestion causes issues leading to better choices, then like me, you have to be more selective
    With our latin america trip this year we had a trailer (never again outside of US) so carrying such was easy. But as you indicated, if the trip is the important thing, not where you will stop for a break, small shops are everywhere. Also, selective eating with the locals where they do meals at will definitely reduce budget costs and adds to the trip. Just be careful as once in Mexico I had to scrap to the side some salsa looking garnish that was way above my tolerance. But that just adds to the stories.
    Cooking, Yes, I like some hot tea and maybe soup. Thus, I would see about a small stove and multifuel bottle, but I agree that one item leads to another and the next thing you know you have strapped (or tried) a small kitchen on your bike. If your goal is to get somewhere, camping is generally only when necessary as it takes a lot longer than just checking in and throwing your stuff down on the bed. We have stayed in places my travel sack (like a very lite sleeping bag, unzips for a blanket, or zip up for additional warmth) became my barrier between myself and the bed, but those places aren't that often.
    So I think you are right in: Lay out what you "want" to take. Sort that into what you can't live without. Then trial run with your bike to see what actually fits and will stay on the bike through sustained rough road riding. You don't want to have happen to us, where my wife's side bag popped open and she didn't know it (we found 3 out of 4 items, but cost an hour). Even if you don't plan on off-road riding situation, in many countries the roads are as if you were off road. They can be rebuilding, but haven't gotten around to it, so it is already torn up in prep, then the trucks come along and turn it into a no man's land of pot holes the size of bomb craters like in a war.
    Thank you so much for your videos. Enjoy your Nepal trip (we have friends there and will eventually go). It's nice to have your own bike, but at least you are getting there.

    Excellent information! One can easily spend too much $ and have too much unnecessary gear. I like the idea of one bag that contains all camping gear. Thank you sir! Happy travels.

    Hi Pavelin, I still like something hit in the morning. I have a tiny folding gas burner and a small aluminium pot containing two plates, smaller pot, kettle and mug. The gas burner can for inside the mug. Extremely small, very light and very compact.

    I recommend a Flameless cooking systems for everyone who wants to have a warm coffee or tee in the morning. Very easy to handle an works perfect. And you don't need to carry a gas cooker or something like that.

    I like the 2 person tent also. It allows me space for things I don't want left outside. I try to be a minimalist as possible, without skimping on logical/practical items. Enjoyed the video Pavlin, be safe.😎

    Your mattress, stool, and sleeping bag are amazingly small and compact. Better than my stuff! I use a Eureka Back Country 2 tent which is pretty compact yet strong with aluminum poles.

    Someone gave me a promotional table umbrella on one of my trips, but I didn't use it as I was mostly in the forest and didn't have a stool anyway. I carried it around 3 countries. I picked up a hammock when around the equator. I try to go with local layers if not too expansive.

    Hi Pavlin, i use exactly the same camping stuff. Since this year a have a new, very small, light and stabile one-man-expedition tent. It is only so big as your sleeping bag and i made good experience with it. Ride safe my friend, Hans

    • @motorcycleadventures
      @motorcycleadventures  6 лет назад

      Hi Hans, I tried with one man tent, but it is too small for me and no room for my gear. If the weather become really bad and need to spend the whole day in the tent will be not so good.

    • @elendshuraglump3620
      @elendshuraglump3620 6 лет назад

      Hi Pavlin, correct, the topic with the bad weather is ever a problem for camping ... it then only can be a last compromise, if you cannot find a room or hostel. Ride safe my friend, Hans

  • @icabo88
    @icabo88 6 лет назад

    In my opinion I would change the chair for a small stove. A warm soup after a long ride day recovers you better than anything else. But that’s also only my opinion.

    • @motorcycleadventures
      @motorcycleadventures  6 лет назад

      Exactly, everyone will decide what is need it. In fact, warm soup will recover nothing, because of the minimum amount of cocked products inside. Especially those that can be cocked for 10 min. One simple banana will give you more, but of course it is your decision.
