Good information. I currently own a drain cleaning company that specializes in hydro jetting. Your video has me thinking about adding a service. Thanks!
I’ve watched at least for other videos involving whiteboards talking about surface cleaner tabs and this is the first one. I actually understood. Thanks.
Billy I run a 20” surface cleaner with a 4 gpm Hotsy 4000 psi. When I have a driveway that’s not that dirty and I don’t need all that pressure I just throttle back the throttle lever half way and I am good. Appreciate all your videos man. Very thorough explanation. Can you suggest a surface cleaner to use with our gasoline powered Troy Bilt Honda engine 2600 psi 2.3 GPM power washer? Thank you
Hey given those parameters and specifications of your particular machine I wouldn't recommend getting anything over a 15 inch surface cleaner. Usually you can buy those units at Home Depot or Lowe's for about $100
I bought a 12gpm 2500 psi machine to use for sewer jetting and just washing down pump stations for sewer plants. I dunno how i came across your channel. But after watching alot of your videos. I feel like a expert in pressure washing and its not even what i do.
It shouldn’t split the PSI in half if your running 4 gpm tips and have a 8 gpm your pressure will still be at 3500 PSI. If you were to use bigger tips it would lower ur pressure but you should be getting 3500 psi with the 4 gpm tips.
I've been learning a lot and was confused the first few times I watched this and I was about to say the same thing.. tips split gpm not psi. Glad someone else was paying attention.
I always thought the second number was thousands of an inch. Like 11003 means 110 degree spray angle with a 3 thousandth opening. Not like it matters, but you can buy the plastic tips with a stainless or even ceramic insert for a lot less than the "SS" or solid stainless or SS11003. To be honest, I'd experiment with the angle over the size of the orifice. Go with an 6004 or wider like an 8004 that will stop leaving streaks as the fan is so much wider. It would be quicker as well.
Hey Mr. Davidson so I have a horsepower 4000 psi 4.0 gpm, and I’m only getting 3,200 psi to my 20 inche Northstar surface cleaner I change the nozzle tips and still getting the same pressure. When I hook up the power washing gun, I get the full 4000 psi. What do you think is going on? Thank you so much.
I saw a new model that can be used for both cleaning floors and washing underchassis. "EVEAGE Upgrade 2-in-1 Undercarriage & Pressure Washer Surface Cleaner...", have you tried this one? how does it work?
Just found your channel today and I love it! As a newbie, what spray type pre wash cleaners (like degreasers, etc) do you recommend for concrete to get it really good and clean? Or do I even need to worry about it if I'm hitting it with 4000psi?
Hey it's awesome to hear from you! If it's just standard concrete with not a lot of stains on it usually you can use just pressurized water to clean it. If it has a bunch of automobile stains on it I would suggest using purple power to spot treat each section then power wash afterwards
Hey Billy, I run a 5gpm machine with this surface cleaner, when I'm worried about the integrity of concrete I dial back the pressure valve (black knob) in fear of etching, is this efficient or is it pointless, I definitely feel less pressure and lift from SC so it feels like a correct adjustment? Thanks brother, love the videos.

If you want the Rolls Royce of surface cleaners, buy a Mosmatic. I bought they're 21 inch Surface Cleaner, and been using it for 3 years. It's never broken down and doesn't need to be lubed.
Hello buddy, got a 4200 psi machine 16 LPM which will be around 4 gallon a minute so, which is the best deal that i can get? Be is a good brand and good surface? thanks mate =D good video by the way helped a lot! cheers
I have a small 14" whirl a way that connects to your gun. It has a grease fitting, but, the fitting is flush to the bearing housing. Nothing is sticking up to attach the gun to. It has a little ball in the center but is flat to the body. Have you seen that before and how do I grease that? Thanks.
@@billydavidsonvip Shouldn't there be a rubber seal? The little ball only pushes in a short ways. My other machines have a standard nipple. I will probably just take it apart since there's not much to it and re-grease it. In one video they took it apart and the bearings had plastic covers still on them so grease could never get to them anyway. Might be better to take a look. Just bought this small one to use on top of brick walls and try it on wooden fences. It's so light it takes off from the ground with any amount of pressure Lol. I'm going to build a solid tube Wand/handle with the hose sliding thru the long handle and quick connected behind me with a ball valve. A gun may not be sturdy enough. Thanks for getting back to me.
@@billydavidsonvip Just look up 14" whirl a way on youtube or Ebay. If your talking about the fitting, it's just a flush circle with a little ball in the center. This thing can handle full pressure but will probably not last.
Hey Billy can you help me with my surface cleaner please? I have a Simpson 4400 psi 4gpm belt drive unit and I use a 20” Simpson surface cleaner. Now when I use this it lifts off the ground. What tips do you recommend I used so I don’t damage the concrete? Thank you for your video.
I would recommend using a 25030 This would allow 3 gallons per minute per spray tip. Even though you only have a 4 gallon per minute machine this would lower the psi pro tip If you are doing extremely old concrete then you could use 15030 this would increase the psi per spray tip
I have a mi - t-m 20 inch , it was given to me. The only difference between it and yours is on the bottom of mine there are two holes at the bottom of the swivel that let a lot of water out. Is that normal or is that a sign it needs to be replaced / repaired?
Hi. Newbie here. Can these be used on tiles and slightly uneven surfaces? Or, should i purchase one with caster wheels? Just hope caster wheel one would work for flat concrete later too. Thank you! Great info.
Yes if you get one with caster wheels it does work a little better on uneven surfaces Before using it on any type of tiles you will have to make sure that there are no loose or broken pieces
Do you put teflon tape on those tips when you screw them in and do the suppose to screw all the way down. I have a m-i-tm 20in and when I put teflon tape on my new tips they would no screw all the way down. It's still works with no leaks but does this affect my cleaning
Yes we always use to have lawn just get them really tight but make sure the slot is straight in line with the spray bar. It would be possible to over tighten it so don't go crazy with it but just a good 40 or 50 pounds of torque should be sufficient
Does my pressure washer matter to find the right surface cleaner? If yes or no. Can you help me find a really good and cheap one? Like around $90-130 I'm really in a budget right now. My pressure washer is: 2300 PSI. 1.2 GPM. Thank you!
I used this surface cleaner with a 4.5 gallon/min machine, using the original tips. I went over a patch of newer concrete (a year old) on a driveway and scoured it badly. Is this what you mean by new concrete? I hear it can take a year to bond properly, is that true? The homeowner said it was probably just poor concrete.
It does depend on a lot of factors most likely your surface cleaner did scored a new concrete. Whenever you doing new concrete you need to double the original size of your surface cleaner tips. Overtime the scorn marks should start to blend in and not be so visible. Usually this takes about two months
I've used this sprayer several times now on brick pavers, a wood deck, patio, and a driveway. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX It has performed as expected on all surfaces. For larger areas like the decks and patios, I think I will be looking into a surface cleaner attachment to speed up the job, or at least make it a little easier. Hose and sprayer connections are tool-less, tight, and quick. I used the yellow nozzle on the concrete/brick surfaces, and the pressure was adequate for cleaning those surfaces.I am disappointed that these units are still being shipped with a nozzle storage holder that allows them to vibrate out of the holder way too easily and become lost, but I don't want to knock off a star for that reason. The functional part of the washer works very well, so I would recommend this product.
Yes depending on the surface you were cleaning and the power of your pressure washer you may have to switch out your tips. But both tips will be identical under your surface cleaner you cannot mismatch tip sizes
How tight should you put them in? Like high should the tip be from the ground after they are in? I tightened mine till it was hard to move, while still lining up the bar and the nozzles
Billy I have a gx390 I think pushing 4 gpm with a 20 inch be surface cleaner. The problem I’m having is it feels sluggish. Should I change tips if so witch tips. Thanks 🙏
Too big surface cleaner for your machine. Best is 16 or 18 max. Once you go to 20 you sacrifice speed over cleaning circumference. Rule of thumb is 4inches per gpm (4 gpm x 4 inches = 16)
It's most likely your spray chips. If you go to the description of this video you'll find my website. On that website is my personal phone number. If you could text me a short video of the surface cleaner not working I should be able to diagnose the problem
It's most likely a damaged O-ring and some spinner models can be rebuilt with a kit but most often it's more efficient just to replace the spinner unit
We just tested it with a pressure gauge. We're going to upload the video soon. It does drop the pressure in half using two spray tips because your orifice size is increased by adding to two spray sizes together.
Hey thanks for leaving us a comment. Am I opinion with that size of a pressure washer I would recommend using a surface cleaner that is about 12 inches in diameter
David Schmidt hey if you looking for a way to get a bunch of new work I put together a little video and I’m charging $15 for someone to view it as many times as they want just let me know if you’re interested
Hi Billy Davidson, I have a few questions. I purchased a 24 inch surface cleaner from a craigslist sale. It has a 3 bar and 3 tips. Each are label 15015 and they where not set at 12 & 6 (parallel to bar) I'm going to use a 4200 psi with 4.0 gpm pressure washer. Would i need to change the tips on the 24" surface cleaner to 2502 × (3) = 6 gpm for soft washing on newer concrete? Again, it has 3 tips. Like you mention don't want to cause any damage. What tips would you recommend on corrugated (rock exposure) driveway and walkways? Also what type or of grease and brand would you use for the 20" surface cleaner? I thought the motor is enclosed greased unit. I think i will also buy a 20" surface cleaner like the one in your video. Any information will be helpful. Thanks
Hi Billy, quick question: I've been looking at these cleaners and the majority of them top up at 4000psi with the GPM varying up and down depending on the model. I have a 4400 PSI 4 GPM pressure washer and it's hard to find a cleaner that passes that 4000psi max pressure mark. Any modifications I could make to use one of these at 4400 PSI and 4 GPM ? Thanks.
Yes you can still use a surface cleaner that is rated for 4000 PSI when the PSI is calculated and rated for your specific machine it is measured at the pump under optimal conditions. Such as 60 pounds per square inch of water pressure going into the inlet side of the pump "which is uncommon on most facets" in addition they measure the outgoing psi directly at the pump without any pressure hose. That being said if you hook to a standard garden hose that is 100 feet long to feed your pressure washer you're not going to receive 60 psi on the inlet side that will reduce your psi by at least 200 psi. They get you down to about 4200 psi on the outlet side. Now let's remember the psi is measured at the pump with no pressure hose and that's how the manufacture comes up with this number. Once you put on a 50 feet or a 100 foot pressure hose and a wand then the psi is reduced even more! 100 feet of pressure hose reduces the pressure by approximately 300 psi in addition the water Hass to make to make a 90° turn to go through the wand. This again reduces the pressure by another 150 psi anytime this water hast to make a 90° turn. Therefore lowering your realistic pressure to probably just over 3700 psi which is well within the range of a 4000 PSI rated surface cleaner. I apologize for this long message in any typos but if you need any other help just let me know

In my opinion it's not recommended because the surface cleaner will turn to many RPMs in wear out quickly
What kind of tip would I use for pavers that are mildewed.
Use double the size tip recommend it for your pressure washer flow
mine leaking grease at the bottom above the bar. how do I fix it
It's most likely a damaged O-ring and some spinner models can be rebuilt with a kit but most often it's more efficient just to replace the spinner unit
@@billydavidsonvip ok thanks
Thank you 😊
pressure is not split but gpm is split 3500 at 2 gpm per nozzle
We just tested it with a pressure gauge. We're going to upload the video soon. It does drop the pressure in half using two spray tips because your orifice size is increased by adding to two spray sizes together.
what do you use to grease it with
We use just a white lithium grease
How old does concrete have to be so it is not considered new?
Probably about five years.
Great info. Thank you
Very glad I watched this video thank you

Great video thanks
thanks, great info
Any thoughts from the community on how big of a surface cleaner I can push with a 3300 PSI, 2.5GPM? 😳
Hey thanks for leaving us a comment. Am I opinion with that size of a pressure washer I would recommend using a surface cleaner that is about 12 inches in diameter
Where do you get your tips?
Pressure TEK
Thanks Bill 👍👏
David Schmidt hey if you looking for a way to get a bunch of new work I put together a little video and I’m charging $15 for someone to view it as many times as they want just let me know if you’re interested
@@billydavidsonvip I'm started from scratch with next to nothing money but thanks just the same
Would that fit a will usa tx625
Yes it should
@@billydavidsonvip thanks for the reply
Hi Billy Davidson,
I have a few questions. I purchased a 24 inch surface cleaner from a craigslist sale. It has a 3 bar and 3 tips. Each are label 15015 and they where not set at 12 & 6 (parallel to bar)
I'm going to use a 4200 psi with 4.0 gpm pressure washer.
Thanks
Awesome. Thanks.
I used 40 degree tips
I apologize for this long message in any typos but if you need any other help just let me know
@@billydavidsonvip that’s an excellent explanation. Thank you.

For a video about everything that you need to know it sure missing alot of things
I think that's all you really need to know. We could really go deep into surface cleaner science and Hydro dynamics but it would just complicate things. For beginners that's all you need to know to get started! Thanks for watching
Great info. Please use a different camera guy. Too much movement.
