  • Pop-up warning messages have happened to us all at one point. Sometimes, they are legitimate infections. But the majority of the time, they are simply scareware messages to make you call the number on the screen to remove the "infection". In this video, I explain what those popup messages usually are, and how you can VERY easily make them go away. Don't spend money having your computer "fixed" when it's absolutely not necessary!
    Hope you guys enjoy this!

    It happened to me a few times but I haven't encountered one of those in quite a while now....
    The first time it happened me, I got a little panicky because it was just like you said. I couldn't close it, and it even had an audio component to it that kept repeating. All I wound up doing was closing the browser, and then reopened it. It didn't come back after that. *Whew* (I don't recall how I did it though... I either minimized the browser window, and closed it or I opened up Task Manager, and shut it down that way)
    All I remember was the next time it happened, I didn't get flustered, and I knew exactly what to do.

    I've seen this on a public PC at the Library. People who are not computer-savvy won't understand that this pop-up message is not from Microsoft. It is a fake. You should be able to close the web browser and it will go away

  • @SaladLettuce-wo3ys
    @SaladLettuce-wo3ys 5 месяцев назад +4

    Sir, but did you know that a better way to end the browser is to use the shortcut alt+f4? It will close the selected window. You can also use task manager by pressing ctrl+shift+esc if you configured it to always show on top, because else, it won't show through the full screen mode.

    • @AskYourComputerGuy
      @AskYourComputerGuy  5 месяцев назад +5

      yes, but in my experience, you'd not believe how many people can't grasp hitting ALT-F4 at the same time. Both of the methods i describe are one-click solutions that also will work. You're not wrong, but I try to keep it simple for "simple" folks :)

  • @zaknalfein72
    @zaknalfein72 4 месяца назад

    Also a bit more advanced for novice users is doing the ctr, alt, delete to bring up task manager and just click on the browser and end task

    • @AskYourComputerGuy
      @AskYourComputerGuy  4 месяца назад

      I considered that, but with multiple possible browsers, a novice user might not know which process to kill

    Unfortunately, my wife runs across these types of issues of 'Scareware' pop-ups occasionally on her PC but more frequently on her mobile phone. Heck I've even had them happen on my Android mobile phone, generally with Google's news feeds _(left swipe screen)._

    Ah, yes, the good ole drive-by pop-over. Lol. I get at least 1-2 calls weekly for these. "But Microsoft says..." I always ask them, "If you run over a nail and get a flat, do your car or tire manufacturers contact you to let you know?" 😂 Nicely done, as always.

      your laptop should not go into "overdrive" when you put it into sleep mode. You may have something running in the background that is causing excessive hard drive usage. I would recommend a scan with MalwareBytes to eliminate any running malicious processes:
