There's no reason someone can't be a fan of ABBA, the Carpenters, John Denver, Olivia Newton-John and also be a fan of Led Zeppelin, Queen, Journey, etc.

It’s easy for people to dismiss ABBA. But those people just don’t get how sophisticated some of their music is. And the girls voices....unmatched in so many ways. Seeing their songs live really gives you an idea of how good they are.

Their harmonies are superb. Their songs are far from simple, people who say that have missed the point. Pure talent makes the complex seem simple and Abba were pure talent. They wrote their own songs, did their own arrangements and interpreted them with those deceptively simple but beautiful harmonies. Groovy indeed!!!

And they had a great recording engineer in Michael B Tretow who made magic in his studio long before computers.

    • @jhcfight

The songs (especially the lyrics) are so well written, that they sound simple. How many performers can say they belonged to a group that 10 years existed from 1972 on, with music that nowadays is still world famous?

    • @timpows
      @timpows 4 года назад +2

Originally, the lyrics were only meant to give Frida and Agnetha something to sing. Their voices were seen as instruments and the sound of their vocals meant more than the meaning of the words they sang. Their lyrics improved as Bjorn became more comfortable with English. There are a few channels on RUclips that breakdown the harmonies on various ABBA songs. They are VERY complex and that is the True ABBA sound in my opinion. Sometimes the guys would come up with the harmonies, sometimes the ladies would.

You're my favorite reviewer JB because you listen with your heart and don't take too many breaks. When you say you are getting an education from the music, and healing, well that's great because you pass that healing on to us who also have been suffering from the 'dead zone' which is today's culture.

i'm a 56 year old guy who is into many styles of music. But ABBA are just about as good as it gets. Here in the UK, back in the 70's they were never respected by the cool people...it was considered to POPular. I never dissed ABBA, I always knew that they were incredibly talented.
One hit after another.......And, all the really good British musicians and singers like Queen, ELO, Genesis etc., always praised the amazing song writing , arrangements, production and unique and frankly , jaw-dropping vocal performances of the two girls.

This is astonishing. This song here is called amazing, funky and groovy by a young American.
Back in my youth (70s´+80s´) in Europe it was kind of embarrassing to call ABBA as a favorite, allthough they hit the rankings there with 20 no.1 hits. People said: too clean washed, too smooth, no jive, just mainstream. That´s why ABBA never succeeded in U.S. (except for Dancing Queen).
Now I see, today many Americans love ABBA songs. What has changed?

FUN FACTS - ABBA is an acronym for the members names. Agnetha, Benny, Bjorn, Anni-Frid ''Frida''. Early on, the girls had to learn the songs phonetically because they didn't speak English. Agnetha and Bjorn were married and Frida and Benny were married. Unfortunately, the marriages didn't last.

You are a beautiful person. Thank you for everything that you say and do. Do NOT waste your precious time listening to the haters. They are empty inside. And your soul is full and soaring. Let it go, brother. Be you. Be proud. Be happy! Love you some good music

Just discovered your amazing channel this weekend and have been binge watching! I love you and your very positive energy. Has anyone recommended the movie, Mama Mia? The whole thing is an Abba soundtrack. I think you'd enjoy it. Thanks for all you do!

You seem like such a nice guy. I'm not the biggest Abba fan, but I love them a little more because you do. You do bring a nice light to this kaleidoscope of color we call life.

Talking about Bohemian Rhapsody: Which song got to #1 in Britain in 1975 right after Bohemian Rhapsody sat there for 9 weeks? exactly, this song, Mamma Mia. Golden 70's.

Thx JBL - During the 70's, I didn't admit to liking Abba, or similar music, as I was more into the rock bands, but I definitely appreciate them more and more as the years go by. HAVE TO react to "Dancing Queen" = their best song IMHO!!

Love your attitude, love your music choices, enjoy your vibe, so ignore the haters; they're jealous of the joy you find in this ol skool music x

Thanks. I don't want to see any hateful comments, either. That's not why I watch these reactions, but I've had a couple of negative reactions to my own comments on other channels, just because someone disagrees with my opinion. There's no point in responding to negativity from someone I don't even know.
This is your channel, & your right to set limits. Good for you!

Yes J, there is soooo much music to listen too, also , try to read about the groups and try doing 3 or 4 reactions of the same groups in a row . That would be kool.I said to you before ,go back in the way back machine and listen to the big bands , and work your way up to though the years. When I was in high school , I never listened to the music of the day, I listened to CBS FM an oldies station in NYC. And never ashamed to admit it.
I’m glad your spirits are up! Good luck at work!
