It took me years to try an SG (Vintage vs6). It quickly became my favourite type of guitar. Slim, light, great upper fret access and pure rock tones. Love them
Just got one a few days ago (second-hand Vintage vs6, with Wilkinson hardware, and before they changed the shape of horns).
I've always wanted an SG, but being a strat and superstrat player for most of my life I was aware it will take some getting used to and was dreading it to be honest, whether I'll be able to get accustomed to such a different guitar or not. It is a different feeling for sure (frets are farther from me than I am used to, and shorter scale and small and slim body made it seem like a toy at first), but I was amazed by how easy and enjoyable it is to play this guitar.
A slim and fast neck and all of the frets being easily accessible... despite having to fight it a bit due to a certain amount of neck dive when standing, to my pleasant surprise, I've quickly grown to love the feel of SG shape, they are fantastically designed guitars.
I just found this channel about 10 days ago and have been glued to it ever since. Love the playing and the deep dives. I've learned a tremendous amount. Fantastic job with the channel. Cheers
Cheers Joey! 😁👍
65 guitars is an immense collection my friend..I'll bet they're all fantastic players..😊
What a lovely SG collection. You did some great modifications here. Thanks Colin, for showing us those gems.
Yes mate! Been looking forward to an SG collection video, they really are the best thing Gibson ever did :D
I love the look of a Walnut SG to be honest, that faded front is fantastic! 👍
I can watch this all day, all weekend 😊 SGs galore! Loved the first one the best. Almost looked like it had a red pickguard when you took off the pickguard 😂
That's what i said.. should put a clear guard on it and leave the red exposed
That '63 Historic SG is a beauty. That fingerboard being so light really matches the faded body.
This is awesome Colin, thanks. Can’t wait for the next episodes!!
Nice playing. I appreciate that you allow the notes to sustain instead of trying play as many notes as possible. Good taste is a rare thing here on youtube.
Thanks man that's really appreciated 😊🙏 playing and demoing the guitars is I find the hardest thing to do and I (very) often think it sounds a bit rubbish so I do really appreciate the support.
The beat up laquear Gibson parts castor, the southern rock is the cherry of them all. I thought of Dicky Betts and Allmans - love your channel Mate - well done
Great intro! Love that tone! Great playing also!
So Very Cool, Thankyou. Amazing Collection and still going. Look forward to the next installment. Cheers
At least the day for all SG fans! Waiting for the next episode Colin. Cheers ✌🏼
Colin,
At last 👍I’ve been looking forward to a series on your guitar collection 👌
Great way to kick off a Easter Bank holiday weekend 👍
Great video Colin! It’s so good to hear someone genuinely enthusing about their passion. You’re getting some great tones as well. It’s making me look at SG’s in a new light.
Hey Colin. Great video! I look forward to Fridays when I get to watch a new video from you. I’m excited to see your entire guitar collection and hopefully some amps as well. Nice tease at the end. See you next week.
That fade is amazing. Probably my fave SG color
My favorites squared. I love SGs and I always dig it when you show us a bunch of guitars.
All lovely guitars, really forward to to following episodes.
I just love watching and listening to you jam. Your note and chord selection is perfect.
Ah thanks man that’s really appreciated 😊🙏
Love your videos mate, I love how in depth you go into talking about and analyzing the guitars, I could watch you all day, I’m subscribed 🙂
I bought my first Gibson SG in January as a bit of a 50th birthday treat. I had a couple of Epiphone SG`s quite a few years ago and I could of probably happily settled for another this time, but couldn`t resist finally owning a Gibson! As for this channel, they`re the only videos on RUclips that I watch all the way through! You should put some merch out, I`m a total sucker for merch!!
To me the SG is the perfect guitar! It’s light, has all the girth of a LP, but with extra bite; not to mention way better upper fret access! I have 13 electric guitars, and if I had to reduce down to 1 only, without hesitation I would keep my 2013 SG Standard with ‘57 Classics…it just rips! Love these videos as always Colin! Cheers and Happy Easter!
Happy Easter John!
Hey Colin . Thanks again for your videos and your awesome musicality . Your 'Footage' with "croc cam" always reminds of a great worker who apparently found a better place to work . Thumbs up !
The Le Pape all the way, Col. Gorgeous in every way. Thanks, mate!
Cheers John 😎👍
Thanks for sharing some of your wonderfull collection. So refreshing to see guitars that have actually been played and often, instead of being stuck in a display case for years. Many Thanks Again.
SG Heaven❣️🎸
Thanks for giving us this look at those marvelous guitars. 🙏
Time to grab mine, as you’ve inspired me to practice again.
Excellent cheers mate! 😁👍
Man, I love the heck out of your videos, Colin. I look so forward to Fridays because I get my guitar lesson I get to watch your video and it’s the end of the week. Great first video I’m enjoying the collection and trying to figure out what’s in that case. Happy Easter my friend.
Cheers Ernie, Happy Easter Mate! 😎👍
This is the stuff I love- the quirky stuff! More of the collection, please.
Great playing, mate.
😊🙏
Some wonderful warm tones there Colin. Loved the single P90 hand made junior. Crikey that can growl!❤
Great Video Colin, was kinda gutted we did not hear the 2013 sgj. Fantastic looking guitar...
Keep up the great work🔥🔥
This deep-dive into your collection seems to have reignited the emotional/ instinctive aspects of your playing.
Which I love, because when you're feeling it, I'm feeling it.
Props, brother.
😊🙏 thanks mate that’s really appreciated… and honestly I thought my playing sucked on some of these! 🤣
Hi colin... its so much fun to see you pull out the collection. Guitars need to be played!! I really liked the Marshal Tucker vibe to your playing this week. At least that what it sounded like to me. Very nice. Makes me want to pull a few out of the pile to play.. cheers.
Cheers Jeff, yes that was the vibe!... pull some out and jam along mate! 😁👍
Thanks for sharing, Colin. Another great video. One guitar per week is manageable. That is being custodian to 52 , or 65 in your case. That first SG is a real beauty, fade and all. Magnificent tones. Some of us will recall the sweet tones Mick Taylor coaxed from his SG. Far more than an LP's little brother. And yes there have been some fine practitioners of single coil (not P90) SG's. ie Frank Marino of Mahogany Rush. Cheers!
52 is a nice round number Adrian! 😂 👍👍
look at all these gorgeous SG's ! i really like the steel G kid, amazing looking, caught me off guard complety when you knocked it and said it was made out of steel haha, excellent video of these beauties
Colin,
Just as I thought some excellent guitars in part one of your collection 👍
Nice sounding French metal guitar 👍
I love SGs never been bothered about neck dive but Wish they would start putting the Jack socket off the body front and on the side edge.
Just what we are needing on a Friday! Cheers Colin
Bravo! Lovely stuff, old horse... thanks for sharing.
Have a great Easter and good luck with the bunny hunt :)
Cheers David! 😁👍
Aloha and Mahalo Colin! Nice collection of SG's. Thanks for sharing. Interested in seeing the rest. Aloha!
Cheers Victor! 😎👍
Great start to a promising series Colin. Looking forward to the amp collection in great detail. A nod to Frank cheers.
Awesome! It's great to see you playing your favorite guitars. The SG 200 sounded terrific. Can't wait for the next installment.
Beautiful collection and in my opinion the highly modified string through body SG just sounded fantastic. My favorite sounding of the bunch. Great video.
nicely done as always
Great Film today Colin!!!! Like You Love SG's, and this is a walk down Memory Lane!!! Very Informative, Entertaining, and as always Nice Playing as well, You can tell You "Luv Em", sounded Great!!! Love the stories behind Your purchases of each one!!! Thanks for Great Films on Guitars!!!! Happy Easter Weekend!!! Cheers!!!!
Cheers Blake! 😎👍
Hi Colin! I enjoyed looking at and hearing all of your SG's. The one that gets my attention the most is the white one. That one is just so different than all of the others. My first really nice, non-budget guitar that I ever had is an SG. The one I just had repaired. This video makes me want to pick it up and play it.
Sorry for the late comment. I usually try to see these on Fridays when they come out, but the last few weeks have been hectic for me. I hope you had a great Easter weekend.
Cheers Colin! ✌
How fortunate you are to have that cast of characters about to jam with. Quirky and odd, some might say, but the unique is often more fun, so thanks for sharing your friends.
Wow!!!! The neck pick up on the faded sg is like nothing Iv heard before! Beautiful tone!
Great SG’s and very entertaining video.
Good show. This will be a fun series..
fab pre-ending...looking forward to seeing what form of lizard slithers out of that croc case
Woot. Just joined the SG club last month with an Epiphone. Can't watch right now but will come back. Later: Finally got to watch. Wow...THAT was a great episode man! Thanks for the Tour and looking forward to next installment! Best Regards and Best Wishes!
Cheers man! 😁👍
That 1st faded cherry top is the best color I've ever seen on a guitar imo. It's very rich and has great depth!
What a fantastic video have a good long Easter weekend
Thanks, you too Amin!
Beautiful Excellent Amazing and all other wonderful adjectives describe you your efforts and your SGs
Great collection enjoyed watching it👍
can't wait for part 2 of your guitars collection sir.
Nice collection, wow! Nice playing, have a nice weekend 😀
😊🙏
Nice collection collin!
You have given me a fear of leaving my cherry gibson explorer in the sun though 😂
We're all waiting to see your next video, Guitaristas cool shirt collection!
It will be a lot shorter! 🤣👍
Amazing collection Colin, obviously SG’s make you smile and are one of your bigger weaknesses. But what a great weakness to have! Great video and content as always, enjoy the long weekend. 🤘
Thanks man and you!
What a treat! Sweet SGs! Love it!
I am in SG Nirvana! Thanks for getting me back into SG . When you are an Angus sized guy you get to appreciate the proportions of the SG. Since I got my special my Les Paul rarely leaves the case.
Thank you so much mate for sharing some of your collection with us. Myself, I love P90 guitars, specifically single P90 guitars. Thanks again for sharing this with us all. Cheers mate
Jammin' along with you old man is about one of the last things to still make me smile and I look forward to next time, every time. Many thanks from a man in a room.
Nice one! 😁👍
I bought my 1st SG in '68 and it's always been my favorite style guitar. Great video, Colin!
😎👍👍
Fab vid mate, just bought myself the Epiphone SG 61 Vibrola awesome guitar! I had to tweak the trussrod a bit to enable a low action without buzz but that aside its a great sounding and very playable guitar. I can now see why so many folks love the SG. Nice playing Colin love your demo jams, look forward to the next vid! Cheers
Always fun…. lovely collection.
YESSSS. I love this so much. Thank you for sharing. I need an SG. wish the JR's weren't so hard to find at a decent price.
I like your site and you play great!
I was not prepared for that '06 A&H SG . . .
that is truly a treasure, good sir.
The more I see of that, the better!
I am well and fully jealous, no disguising it
Wonderful Episode 👏👏👏
Alright Colin an episode (and only the first part!) Only about Gibson (and one from a luthier guy in France) SGs, love it! As a proud owner of 8 SGs (5 Gibsons, 1 Epiphone Muse and a Harley Benton model) and one Guild Polara S-100 SG I guess I can say I'm an SG nut! Awesome guitars whether they're humbucker or P-90 or LB-1 (Guild) they're fantastic guitars, love em! Got my first Standard brand new in 1994 and been loving them ever since. Loved seeing part of your collection and look forward to seeing more 👍
Amazing! If you could do a video of your pedal board and a review of your pedals...that would be quite interesting.
I have 5 great guitars. I just can't seem to put my SG down for long.. always come right back to it🤘😁🎸
Aahh! SGs and Colin with my Friday morning coffee! Heaven! I've been SG-less until recently, I just bought an Epiphone SG Classic with P90s about a week ago and am very pleased with the way it sounds. Looking forward to the next installment of your collection. Cheers my friend!
Cheers Ferd, funny I nearly bought a green Epi Classic recently... can't promise I still wont! 😆👍
@@theguitaristas No green guitars for me! 🤣🤣Mines a Worn Cherry satin finish.
@@ferdberfle5069 I want an Olive Drab one really...
What a gorgeous '64 reissue. That '76 Suzuki I have is a GS 400. Street bike. Cheers bud.
Ah yes cheers mate… still nice bike! 😎👍
@@theguitaristas it will scare the zhit out of ya!
Fantastic, I've never tried an SG, might be time to ☺
Lots to see this week!
I watched half of this last night & nodded off!! Absolutely dug the French Jr & the soapbar 68-9? Sound great p90s.
Yeah Col show us the rest, the amps etc. collection..more than interesting mate✌️
Good Friday,
Good god,
It's Guitaristas' heaven
Ace video my good man.
Cheers Paul, have a great weekend mate!
I stumbled across your channel looking for videos about upgrading an ES style guitar. I'm glad I did. Awesome guitars and love the stories about how you obtained them. You remind me of Lloyd at my local shop, but maybe it's just the hair 😀
😁👍👍
Talk about timing, going through different guitars in my collection, I finally found the SG with P90s will be my main guitar for gigs. Then this video came out. Now I have the Gibson SG 60s Tribute as my main and the Epiphone SG Worn as my backup. I enjoy watching your videos. Awesome playing and great format!! Your channel rocks!! 🤘
Cheers Arnie! 😁👍
Always loved the distinctive sound of the SG, and some of my favourite guitarists played them - though I've never played one myself. Am I a philistine for saying I much prefer the SG Standard, at the end, to all the other vintage guitars and works of art? Ah, well, philistines of the world unite! Love the collection, and the first part of the video - looking forward to the next one, you big tease!
I keep seeing your flying V, and I want it! You will have to show that soon! I bought a 2004 faded SG second hand in 2012, and I fitted some Bare Knuckle Mules, changed the knobs to reflector knobs, and changed the truss Rob cover to a standard one. And it sounds amazing.
Your love for Clash and Velvet Underground makes me so happy!
I 💛 your 'komisch' turn of phrase Colin, that turns up from time 2 time in the Friday 📹's... guaranteed to bring a smile to my face which is always a good thing 😃
eg/You know the sticky, stickiness that's on the back of the label 😂
'Great stuff Col' far easier/better than just saying 'glue' 🤣
Now it's all makes sense... what with you once working 4 Comedy Central 😀
As for the SG's the piece of 🇫🇷 art is my clear favorite. I remember watching your original stooges inspired 📹 a couple of years ago. After a morning foraging psilocybin 🥳 hence it made an impression...
Happy Easter m8'🐣
Cheers man... aha GLUE! 😂 that was the word I needed! 🤣🤣👍🤦♂️
Hi Colin, I'll admit I'm a bit jealous now. Great SG collection! Cheers Nobby
Thanks for sharing.
I just bought my first Gibson SG standard last week in cherry red. It also happens to be my first Gibson. I’m in love.
Nice one Colin, definitely an SG man myself, my 2002 SG standard ebony also has no neck dive....
Another wonderful video Colin. Lovely SG's whatever the price. Cant wait to see the other guitars over time. I am saving up to get real Fender Telecaster after buying Squier ones for years. Probably going for a 50's style pre owned Custom Shop. Alwats been a dream to have a real Tele being a James Burton and Luther Perkins fan.
Excellent! I really enjoyed seeing your extra cool SGs. I’ve still never played one in 50 plus years of guitaring. I’m seriously considering getting one, but it probably will have an Epiphone Special, due to economics!
my faves where the french sg and the 200 tones par excellent mt, a cracking vid m.
thanks col, i got an sg special with fire bird pups in it, its a killer axe m.
😎👍👍
great friday as always uncle.. i missed your videos.. lol.
Cheers man, I am always here so don’t forget about me if RUclips doesn’t remind you! 😆👍
That steel SG is amazing! I mean all of them are, but that’s something special!
Really dig the Zappa jams! Lovely sg's
Cheers Kyle!
I'm another SG guy myself ,have 5, IYV SG with vibrola, chibson Angus Young with lightening bolt inlays, malibu sunset firefly SG,silver tone SG and a grote SG which is a killer guitar, upgraded the pickups with a set of epiphone dot pickups, sounds excellent.
Very Very Cool 🎸🎸🎸 Cheers!
Fliipin' brilliant, mate! Great intro jam played on a delicious little gem of an instrument, and that faded one was fated to be with it's Marshall counterpart in your capable hands. Maybe a clear scratch plate to show the original color? I love the SG in (almost) every iteration it has appeared and yours are all pretty tasty treats, friend!
Thanks Todd! 😎👍
