  • Police in Spain have insisted they have not given up hope of finding missing Jay Slater in a new update.
The 19-year-old, from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, went missing more than three weeks ago in Tenerife.
After almost two weeks of hunting for Jay in vast and mountainous terrain, Spanish police called off the search on the ground on June 30.
But today (July 9), police insisted that several lines of enquiry were still being pursued.
A source close to the case insisted investigators were not working on the basis Jay was 'missing feared dead', the Mirror reports.

Hello everyone, I wanted to give you all an update on our continued efforts to find our Jay.
We have been overwhelmed by the kindness and support we have received and would like to thank the local hiking group for all of their help planning the routes to find our Jay. We have been contacted by a wonderful group of locals who have volunteered to continue the search. While they don’t wish to accept financial help for their search, we will be supporting them with supplies and are so grateful for their willingness to help.
We also continue to be contacted by experienced groups offering to support our search. We are busy talking to them about what they can do to assist. But in order for us to employ their help, they need to have permission from the Spanish authorities.
We will be sure to keep you all updated on our progress and are so grateful for your continued support to bring our boy home. Please keep sharing and supporting our fundraiser however you can.

What on earth makes this man think he can criticise the Spanish police and also demand that uk police and Interpol get involved - one thing I can tell you having lived in Spain for over 20 years the police there are not stupid and the way they work is nobody gets to know anything until they are ready to either make arrests or make statements - I think this family needs to show some respect for all the work that has been put into finding their son when it really isn’t a case of a nieve 19 year old going missing - there’s clearly a dark history with everyone associated with him

This is not a new thing. It’s gone on for the last 30 years plus . The Spanish police in this case are not following any line of enquiry that these people were involved with drugs. This should already be a cross investigation involving the British the security services and Lord knows who else. if you start by the criminal element of drugs, you’ll soon find out what went on, there is a ton of evidence available to the public to suggest that the search is not very good.

The Spanish Police are the experts in these Islands...its Spanish Territory and you have to abide by their rules and regulations...you can't demand to know what's happening when it's an ongoing enquiry...being a UK Citizen does not give you the right to demand that UK or Interpol Police to be involved. Tenerife's terrain is so difficult to search ...and I'm afraid you can't blame the Police for the Islands Environment . You can't blame them for calling off a search ..They are still investigating but that too will end at some point...The Go Fund Me money should be spent on all the Rescue Services that have been involved...instead of funding more family to come here when they can't do anything

To do so would jeapordize any leada they may have, people need to let them do their job! Cases like this are not solved over night and can take many weeks or months! it's insulting to call for the British police to come over. What can they do? They don't know the area or the local crime scene. Probably can't even speak Spanish.

Everyone talking about the attack should know that happened for a reason. The guy was grooming an underage girl.

Why all this fuss over an adult who has gone missing? People go missing every day. Now, if he was 9 years old I could understand all this coverage.

He is not up that Mountain, and Brandon needs to be questioned. He was around Jay and watching him for 3 days and was also the last person captured on camera with Jay in the early hours on monday, and just a few hours befre Jay supposedly went missing.
Brandon knows what happened and he is being omitted from the story more and more everyday
