- Michelle, Hand Expert and founder of Virtual Hand Care, shows you her Top 3 Trigger Finger Exercises to help stop the triggering, catching, or locking of your finger.
These trigger finger exercises will work on stretching the finger to prevent joint stiffness, gliding the FDP (Flexor Digitorum Profundus) tendon, and stretching the A1 pulley with FDP isometric contractions.
Trigger finger is a very common hand condition that can greatly impact the functional use of your hand with almost ALL daily activities. By using a combination of splinting, stretches, and isometric exercises you can potentially eliminate your trigger finger.
Keep in mind, it is important to see a Hand Doctor if you suspect trigger finger so you can get a proper diagnosis and get on the right path to treating your trigger finger. Unfortunately, there are 4 grade levels of Trigger Finger so results can vary greatly. (see Disclaimer below)

The exercise at 3:36 is one of the exercises that I did through experimentation and found it to be the best exercise for relieving and improving my trigger finger condition. Pulling the finger back straight is the key to make this exercise painless. I'm so glad that it turned out to be an exercise recommender by a hand expert.
I havent tried yet or even watches yet but im 30 years old and jesus its so painful. Started out as carpel tunnel a few years ago but i will be back to comment if it helped thanks
Omg old if I did the 1st exercise correctly I'm a go and try again but my ring finger it really helped, the exercise 2 and 3 definitely helped!!! I even have a tingling feeling afterwards but a good one, not the painful numb kind..more like a relief
PAIN
Q
My doctor told me there is nothing I could do about my trigger finger. A quick search on RUclips and I found this video. Literally within five minutes over half of the trigger movement was relieved. Wow. I’m gonna be doing these daily.
does your doctor quack? Every doctor of medicine should know that there are many approaches to treatment of trigger finger. Non-invasive such as exercise always a good way to start.
Thanks, I'm 70 and construction worker.Ive swung a hammer millions oof times and that has led to right hand index locking
I'm trying your techniques to avoid costly doctor visits, no insurance, and below poverty level. Appreciate you !
I’ve had two steroid injections in as many years and trigger finger keeps coming back. I’ve been offered surgery as the next option but I’m glad I’ve found these videos before I’ve had this done. Thanks
Hi Michelle, I am a full-time manual wheelchair user and have had issues in the past with moderate carpal tunnel discomfort. Recently, I started feeling more trigger finger in my pointer fingers (both hands) and I came across your video today. The last two exercises really isolated the area I've been feeling. Thank you so much for your clear explanations of what to do!
Thank you for your detailed explanation on the exercises for trigger finger, very useful and helpful!
I scheduled another cortisone injection because one finger was starting to flare up. I tried the exercises just once- especially the third one, and my pain and stiffness are nearly gone. I canceled the cortisone injection. I'm so glad there are exercises. I've had this problem for several years and never knew there was hand therapy for it. I use my hands a lot so I am going to do these exercises every day as a prevention. Thank you!
I really like it how you explained isometric help by bowing the pulley. It wouldn't have made sense to me without an explanation. Thank you!
Thank dear Michelle, for your generosity n kindness to share

Had a trigger finger dislociation about a month ago. Less than 5 weeks. I found this channel a day after and the videos have been great. Especially the "dip blocker" exercise which greatly helps with stiffness and regaining flexibility and mobility of the finger. I have to mention the "why is my finger still swollen" video which I found really helpful.

Thank you so much for this! My trigger fingers were stiff and painful but these exercises significantly reduced it, even after one time. Thank you!
If your doctor says that it's okay, add muscle development on top of the stretches. That knocked my serious thumb and finger issue completely out of the park.
She probably mentions it in other videos, or this one. I have not watched the whole thing yet.

Been doing the exercises three days and it seems to be helping. Less pain and locking.
Another tip is to locate the pain in the finger that locks. On the other hand massage the finger that relates to the problem finger on your other hand. You will find the pain goes away.
Thank❤

Hi Felmar. I too have a clicking little finger. Thought I was the only one. I can’t think how this happened to my little finger- it doesn’t get over used. Have you found relief over the past month?
Cheers
@@scottm3055 I was trying to figure out why my little finger was triggering. In observing my day-to-day activities, I discovered I use this finger to support my phone when texting. I suspect that is what is causing my issue.
Thank you for sharing this. I canceled my appt worth a surgeon this really helped me.
tnx a lot

This feels incredible. I am young but my work was giving me trigger finger and I was starting to imagine myself having completely locked joints but this has instantly relieved it. Hopefully after some time it may cure it
same, I'm just 23 and teaching is hard, specially in my location
If I were you I will ti find another job if possible because once you start having the Trigger fingers it won't stop I have this for a couple of years have try all exercises and it does gelp fir a while but it keeps coming back until I stopped doing the same job , next is the injections and then surgery said it may help 50% with made me cry, some people is okay with surgery but other like me Don't.
Keep trying the exercises I really thank this person for helping us all and feel some relief for a while..,good luck to you all blessings.
i sure hope these exercises help...willing to give it a try
I hope so too! Keep us updated!
wow. it works for me.
Thank you for your video
I went to a top hand Md . He offered injection and surgery in one year if it Doesn’t work. I told him I wanted to do OT and splint.
I got a splint and the OT looked at me weird and said there’s no OT for trigger finger and the dr did not put an order in.
I’m also an amputee which makes it more complicated. I’m adapting your instructions
Well, I worked for 15 years as a medical interpreter and I’ve seen it done several times.
Just to say if it wasn’t for professionals like you on RUclips it would be very difficult
God bless you
My hand doctor offered injection on the left middle finger, which I decided to accept, but when my right middle finger started triggering, I opted to see a hand therapist. Exercises have been slowing thing progression down but still triggering, so I cam here.
Prior to this, I was seeing a physical therapist for other stuff, and she said she didn't know anything about hands, so I'm guessing that's its own specialty, which might be why the OT said nothing to be done.
That third exercise really did the trick. Right away.
