This video explains the difference between a forward proxy and a reverse proxy. A proxy server acts as a middleman between a private network and the internet, safeguarding the network by regulating traffic, blocking harmful websites, masking client IP addresses, logging user activity, bypassing content restrictions and commonly used for web data collection. A reverse proxy enhances security for servers by hiding their IP addresses, blocking malicious traffic, and implementing load balancing to distribute traffic evenly.

I think in the future, forward proxys & reverse proxys should be integrated into one for better efficiency & reduced physical space usage.
Man I've been a software engineer for decades and I'm embarrassed to say I never could figure out what a reverse proxy is until now. Thank you for such a great video!!!
Glad I could help!
I've known this terminology for decades and always hated it. The reason you've had trouble figuring it out is that it is incorrect. A reverse proxy and forward proxy operate in exactly the same direction. A reverse proxy does not operate in reverse relative to a forward proxy. Other terms like "load balancer" and the newer (but still not new) "web application firewall" are much better. I could accept "server side proxy" but I don't think that's ever been a commonly used term
I'm just getting into iT work I'm planning to be a data clerk. Maybe that's a good way to start in iT do u have any thoughts on that. I just watched this video to. I'm also in a college course online for cyber security ops.
An IT professional naturally thinks first about a group of clients while a software engineer naturally thinks first about the servers running the software. The name "reverse proxy" seems like it's based on an IT perspective. If I was in charge of naming everything in the world, I would flip the names "proxy" and "reverse proxy".
You guys have literally made my life easier by explaining concepts that seem mundane and 'you should know this by now' with the reassurance that most websites (and some tutors) just plain suck making the knowledge accessible. It's a great way to freshen up on the fundamentals!
I have never seen anyone explaining things so clearly as you do. Your demo videos are also just as good.
Dude , you have a way of explaining things perfectly. Thank you for what you do dude. 😁
I appreciate that!
@@PowerCertAnimatedVideos keep dude-ing your thing!
Yes! you are great. I wish all my searches ended up on one of your videos!
It's good, but not perfect. We have a proxy between our internal users and internal sites. So it is not just used for traffic between the Internet and our users.
Exact! The way you explain is so easy to understand ! Thank you !
I was concerned for some reason from the thumbnail that this channel would spend too much time creating complex art animations and not enough quality educational content. I was SOOOO wrong. This was an awesome video that really connected the dots for me. I was getting confused about which proxy was which, this really cleared it up and more!
THANK YOU!
These videos are informative and are helping my depression. It’s your voice, plus the excellent instruction, plus the perfectly colorful, but somehow nostalgic illustrations. Some kind of a mixture of that.
Thanks, from the rainy PNW 🌲
these animations just keep getting better.. I love seeing this channel getting the props and financial rewards it deserves!
You have explained proxies in a simple and yet excellently illustrated way! Great content as always!
Another instantaneously created fan here! Thanks for such a concise explanation. I've worked with proxies since a long time ago, but this was a very good explanation 👏
For some reason, the "reverse" part in the name of the reverse proxy never "clicked" on my mind, but saying like you did, on protecting servers instead of clients makes so much sense!.
I never read a previous documentation saying it like that, and I read quite some, it always says forwarding traffic, but again, the reverse forwarding is a convoluted way to say just forwarding.
Thanks!!
Great explainer on proxies and how they are used. Thanks for the intro to Bright Data, great service!
Seriously you read my mind! I was just researching how to setup a local dns and was wondering what a reverse proxy was. I was going to look it up on RUclips when I got home from work and then I see this video gets uploaded. I say it again, you seriously read my mind. Thank you!
Congrats on all of your success! Glad to see you with sponsors, as well. I owe so much of my success in the last few years working in IT thanks to your teaching!

Bro this video is just fantastic, and it made me wonder what is the difference between proxy and VPN? Would you make another video on that?
Good explanation. Tnx.
best tutor on youtube! thanks
This is a nice explanation
Thanks so much dude
You need to start teaching others how to teach tech like this! You have found the right formula
So good!!!! How about explaining usb depth limitation? End points?
Thank you!
verry good explanation
Well explained. Well done. So, in other words, Forward Proxies are "talking" to "Reverse Proxies" and the other way around. The clients never talk to each other but let the Proxies do the "talking" for them.
Nice video as always. The images could have been more descriptive though by specifying instead of the ip of the proxy the ips of the pcs inside that private network and the router's as well. Remote side would be irrelevant
Amazing animations
Dear please give video for CCNA course.your videos are really great.

Dude, you are doing a good job with such a good explanation but this video created a doubt in mind then what is the difference between vpn and proxy.
I known that you to take time to create a video and its okay but i am requesting you to make a video on above topic.
Hi mah men, can you make a video on TCP/IP and OSI model ? I believe that it really help to understand this with your work
Hello, could you make videos about OSPF and spanning tree? It would be very helpful to understand these hard topics. Thank you so much.
Thanks
The main benefit of a forward proxy is while you can do filtering, blocking and logging on individual machines it is MUCH easier for the admin to config and manage it on one box. But it also makes a single point of failure if not configured correctly!
You are the best
The forward proxy example is more of a firewall and a proxy itself cannot hide the identity of a client as the forward headers still contain the info on who requested the data.
So is the reverse proxy example, when in reality neither of them have anything to do with security. DDoS mitigation can be on reverse proxy, or not, that's completely beside the point, and "hiding IP addresses" of servers is not done because of security, it's mostly in order to distribute load over multiple servers transparently. All in all, pretty bad explanations.
Stands out for its excellence, Zeus Proxy has proven to be the best proxy provider in my testing, featuring solid customer success support and dependable IPs within its large pool, all at an affordable price.
The versatility of Zeus Proxy's multiple IPs allows me to adapt to different situations and requirements, ensuring seamless browsing and transactions.
Thanks mann
Could you make a video to explain Conventional Server VS HCI Server ?
Architechture, Benefits and another side comparation....
If most of University Lecturer explain thing like this person did, then graduation rate will skyrocketed.
What program you use to make this animations?
How is the effective difference between reverse proxy and firewall?
'A proxy keeps track of what websites are visited'
That's how a friend of mine got fired. They concluded he was 'watching' youtube most of the day while wroking. ...but all he did was listen to music over his headphones while keeping the YT window minimized. ...to not be distracted by the office noise around him to be able to work harder.
