We need very few tanks, our entire defence splurge in recent years is geared around minimal, high tech elements. Much less defensive land battles which assume our main defences have failed. With the systems we have, what would even be left to defend if they went down?
@@RomanHistoryFan476AD That's not a universal truth and makes a lot of assumptions about the battlefield. There are certainly many situations where numbers are preferred but not always in the case of the UK etc.
@@TimboTbagz You need reserves, and Britain is planning to have 134 tanks total with the Challenger 3 upgrade packet. @@RomanHistoryFan476AD No doubt it's a very small number, a bit too small for my liking. I don't think tanks would always be of much use in a defensive UK war but I'd rather we had at least a half decent amount. We don't have enough to contribute much to the defence of the continent, just like in WW2 when we had to stop sending aircraft over to France. This is back filling Poland till there new Abrams arrive - that will be all 4 Challengers Regiments deployed to the NATO eastern front - how many T72 is a challenger worth?
A key weakness with Abrams is it's very high FIR profile due to its turbine exhausts. Challenger is far easier to hide with engines still on as well as far better protected against an advanced attacker like Russia.
This, as you put it, "Russian junk" with professional handling is capable of killing all known ground equipment of any countries, the T72 is a sample of real military equipment, not experimental Challengers, the T72 has an automatic loading system, low profile, low weight, small size, high dynamics movement, lack of gaps in external mechanisms, I am already silent about the main battle tank of this line - T-90MS
