The Omani soldiers seem extremely professional and polite.

Thanks to the British soldiers! We were trained by the best.
@@QazRiyami I can confirm that the Omani soldiers are great guys I was at Shafa for two years when Challenger 2 arrived, I was D & M advisor at the Armoured School.
That is what is needed in soldiers....Politeness and professional capitlaulation....
I grew up in Oman (my Dad worked for their oil company) and professional and polite basically sums these wonderful people up. As a young man in the eighties, about to join the Royal Navy I was lucky enough to be allowed to spend a day on SNV Al Batnah during exercises. The Captain and crew were outstanding. The ship was basically a flippin' huge speedboat with guns and Exocets!
I haven't been back since 1997, but the bay in Muscat where the Sultan's palace is had the names of Royal Navy ships carved into the jebels, as they have always been an excellent ally to us.

What a gorgeous tank
They are amazing machines. I spent two days with the Royal Tank Regiment a few years ago, on live firing exercises. The very ground vibrates as they approach.

Oman is the best of all the local countries. Nice people
I could not agree more. Some of the happiest days of my life was when I worked for the Sultan of Oman's Artillery in the Sultan's uniform during the first Gulf War, stationed in Salalah. I loved Oman and the Omani people.

Oman is the island of stability not only in the Arabian Peninsula but also the entire Middle East.
The Chally 2 is a sublime machine. Wish we had more even if just in reserve.
Why does only UK/Oman use the challenger?
@@charliebarnett7429 Main issues it still uses a 2 piece rounds i.e the sabot and bag charges in a rifled barrel some countries don't want to purchase or make the additional ammo for it. Not the best mobility either, top of that is the costs to build per tank. I think it would be more attractive if it would use the Rheinmetall L/55 on the leopard II, make it more compatible to rest of Europe. Time to start thinking about a new MBT with auto loader crewless turrets ect to be honest, times are changing the UK needs to move with it..
@@EricH_1983 people say that it doesn't necessarily have great mobility but seem to overlook the Hydro-Pneumatic Suspension which gives the challenger 2 the capability of firing accurately on the move at speeds and over terrain which other MBTs could only dream of
@@EricH_1983 why does yoi need to shot more rounds if you can shutdown for atleast 1 or 2 rounds accurately.
and for mobility why does need more speed if you have a great armour. those you mentioned tanks are using more speed to hide, retreat, and quit on the battle field😂😂😂
why
Love this respect to Oman 🇴🇲 👏 ❤️
I lived in Oman for five years in the eighties working for Shell/PDO. It's good to see the military of the UK and Oman still get along just as well as they did then.

@Old Guard Cus yes more brutality definitely helps.... 😑
@Papa Romeo72 I suggest more community organising, building more social centres, setting up of solidarity funds by communities themselves.
You know because removing the material conditions that breeds crime actually works....its almost as if human beings are influenced by their social environment and crime doesn't just happen out of nowhere....crazy thing sociology and criminology isn't it?
@We stand for Peace police don't prevent or deter crime they just investigate it. If they locked up these thugs for life crime would quickly start declining.
@Old Guard Well somebody doesn't have a rebuttal. 😂

Chally Ho We helped install the last few Sultans, in exchange for arms sales, oil, naval access etc etc. Same with various parts of the UAE (we have a naval party in Dubai) and are building a naval base in Bahrain. I lived in Oman but I only saw the chieftain only
Please let me borrow one for rush hour traffic.
Quite a difference from driving on UK roads? I’d say it’s about the same mate.
My father and brother worked on chieftains one of my brothers instructors would regularly go to Iran to train their crews, he said the Iranians considered this to be a very low grade profession so basically they were trying to train goat herders to work high tech military vehicles. Every time they stopped the trainees would climb onto the tracks in the shade and even if you started the engine would not move! You had to beat them out with a stick! One young lad appeared interested and became a star pupil . Apparently when parking a tank it is best camouflaged half way up a sand bank. They told the boy you can basically play with anything but don't touch the hand brake. Of course he released the hand brake, the tank ran down the berm burying and damaging its gun in the sand. The Shahs troops removed him and when asked about where he was replied "Don't worry you wont be seeing him again" They had summarily executed him.
My brothers instructor was distraught and never went back!
Good luck lads.
Sad this is not in the next wt update..
It's not. Because gaijin would completely ruin the Challenger 2 like they do with all other British vehicles. This is the one vehicle I do not want ruined.

Question: Why UK love Oman country more than other countries in ME? The Queen herself visited them one day.
It’s an historic friendship, in short. But, Oman used to be a British protectorate, we recognised their independence and up until the 1990s the British fully commanded the Omani Armed forces. Even today, 91 British personnel are on loan to the gulf state, with a British major General as the military advisor to the sultan. We fought with and for them between the latter half of the 20th century. We have our largest overseas military base and military deployment stationed in Oman. We guarantee their sovereignty against any potential uprising, as we’ve protected the sultan’s reign, previously. We arm them, we supply them, we train them, we teach them, we used to lead and command them, entirely. British personnel that are currently on loan to the Omanis wear Omani uniform, fly Omani aircraft, fighters and tanks, and use omani equipment - completely integrated into their armed forces, despite “officially” being part of the British armed forces. It is a very close (and special relationship). Oman is a wonderful (and beautiful) country and the people are incredibly friendly. If there’s an easy way to sum up Britain and oman, it’d be: “Oman is a British puppet state”. We installed the sultan reign through a military coup, and we’ve continued to support and guaranteed the family’s absolutely monarch and governance over the country. They provide the UK with a strategic goldmine to base troops, bases and Royal Navy docks capable of repairing our fleet. It’s ideal for Britain’s Middle East presence and regional ambitions. The country has had a long history with Britain, British influence and British assistance. Militarily, their armed forces are British made, trained, commanded and overall, overseen. We guarantee them security, they help us strategically and disclose regional intelligence to us. Mutual benefits that support the interests of both nations.
@@dWFnZWVr It was never official British government policy to overthrow Sultan Said. They bloodless coup was arranged by the sultan's son Quaboos and a handful of British officers. I believe virtually nobody in the Foreign Office had a clue it was going to happen.

"This isn't an American or French expensive and compromised piece of scrap, its a British design and it works"....
The M1A2 SEP variants and the Leclerc MBTs are much better tanks than the Challenger 2s, even with its modernization packages. I don't get why people stick for that tank so much. It's still a good tank but to compare it to the Abrams, Leclerc, Leopard, or even the T-90 is just funny.
Unless things are radically different, Armourers are REME. Has this changed?

Just a question: What trade is the RAF airman, didnt know the RAF can go on exercise with the tank regiments
That would be a RAF Regiment Gunner, they deploy to keep UK air assets safe, but are also able to go on patrols and other actions.
Brian Pothoven interesting, didn’t know they work with challengers
I am not sure if they are deployed with the Chally's. It could just be that they are also at that SCS. But i know they are deployed during Saif Sareea going on patrols and stuff in their Huskey's and Foxhounds. I believe they also to raids and stuff.

Is this the export version of the Challenger with 1500 hp MTU engine and smooth bore gun? The UK version uses a 1200hp ex RR engine plus the rifled gun. Great tank and young, motivated teams working with it.
Stephen Lediard both have rifled gun mate
Smooth bore?...,,no operational chally uses one.....there would only be room for about 12 rounds for one thing
It has the Perkins engine.
No, it is the same Tank as the British Army.

Fun fact: The reason Oman went for the Challenger 2 is that they ordered it before they had the chance to test it. Outherwise it would've ended like greece.

Michelle omg I haven’t seen you since catterick.
Question.........Our Challenger 2's need extra filters, dust skirts and all manner of other bells & whistles fitted to them so they can operate in the desert, the Omani Challenger 2's look comparatively naked in comparison......Have they done something to their CR2's that we haven't? Or do they just not bother?
They may not have the funding to or they just don't need it
@@Kiyodio the Oman C2's come with the sand and dust filter as standard. The longer side skirts will help keep the sand away from the drive train but the filters on the engine intake are the most important change that you can't really see from the video.
their challengers where built from the go to work in the desert. Ours for Europe.

I love that 70mm lower plate that can pen penetrated by a T-34/76
Husen Faour that’s why tank crews are trained to always engage with their lower plate covered.....
A T34 wouldnt even get close enough, the Challenger would destroy the T34 from 5 km before the T34 can even see it lol
Nico but imagine with the other tank like léopard, Leclerc, T90 and even abrams 😂
I would highly recommend NOT joining the armored corps, especially the RL or RDG based in Catterick, Northern England. You'll do most of your trade training down in the south, when you get to your unit you'll hardly ever do your trade, other than 2 or 3 times a year on occasions like Castlemartin or Cambrian Patrol firing/operating the vehicles. Most of the time you'll always just maintain the AFV, carry out level 1 work on them (the REME should do the rest in terms of the mechanical side), do morning PT, go on mostly generic exercises (not using the AFV), go on Gunnrey courses and hang around a dirty hanger doing not too much.
If you join the Army now (that is as of this time very undermanned, all Crops) join a corps that you'll obtain transferable skills, qualifications and an trade you'll utilize more often (hence why the RAC aren't issued any real deployments, as they aren't fully needed). If you want the bland, mostly boring hanging around the hanger scene, with a northern boyish regiment then, by all means join.
Sounds like a job I should have done years ago
@@vansolo2869 Every single Corps (as of Nov. 2019) is undermanned. Plenty of room, both reserve and full time if you wanted to join. The points in my last comments were my experiences, and only mine from what I've seen.
No idea why British Tanks design insists on having a lower glacis that is huge and near flat . Anything hits that it going straight through and killing everything in side. Good way to build in a one shot kill design into your tanks
and what about the Abrams? because you look at any picture comparing the two and my god they both have big lower glacis.
Abrams has 600mm of NERA elements behind the 32 mm visable plate has another 101mm of Roll Homogeneous behind the NERA element.
Challenger 2 only has a 70mm plate which even a RPG can penetrate
You havent got a clue..
Chally 2s here are NOT theatre ready that's why. When they are- they carry an additional 13 tonnes of applique armour incuding modules on the glacis.
I was hit twice by RPG's in Iraq 2003. Just damaged the paint
More lucky than trooper Sean Chance who lost most of his feet when an RPG hit the lower glacis and the poor design allowed it to pen.
Whack the lower plate with a shovel and it'll probably cook off.
Cook off is near impossible even in the unlikely event of a round penetrating it's armour due to the fact the ammo is 3 piece. Impossible to explode unless all 3 parts are combined and then fired. It is however an outdated concept and the MOD are trialing to move to smooth bore barrels and 1 piece ammo eventually. Also the front plate has now been addressed and gets it's very own piece of "Dorchester" armour. Pretty much immortal now
Leopard 2A6 and M1A2 over Challenger 2 for me.
From Where can i buy this tank?.😎

Really? Come down under mates
I trained some Omani pilots, definitely have a different work ethic......zzzz
I know this is a very good tank, but it's never really been tested when you think about it. Challengers I&II fought in a total of two wars, both of which only lasted about three weeks. Compare this to the Russian T72, a total of 23 wars or more, many of them lasting an awful long time. Only two countries operate the Challenger II, UK and Oman. 43 for the T72. Only 446 Challenger II's have ever been built whereas 23,000 T72s have been built. It's not really a go anywhere, fight anyone type of tank. As long as the engagements are short and limited and you are up against a relatively weak enemy (like Iraq was), it'll do an excellent job. But in a long drawn out expansive war, like say the present conflict in Syria, (8 years+, though thankfully coming to an end), somehow I don't think it would fare so well. And the last war it fought was Iraq 2003. Hell, that's nearly 17 years ago. The last Challenger II to come off the production line was 2002. Getting on for 18 years now. God, that's like going into WWII with mainly WWI gear (21 years between the two wars). Still, with upgrades it can remain quite potent. But, I do wonder how it would fare in a long drawn out war, patched up to the hilt to keep it moving, with less well trained crews, weaknesses discovered and taken advantage of, fuel and ammo shortages, complex maintenance procedures, damaged, broken down or knocked out tanks having to be recovered (which would be quite difficult given the weight of the tank). And think about it having to cross rivers. Civilian bridges might not be able to take the weight. Royal Engineers would have to throw one across. British Army would probably do ok here, but others without this kind of support would have to wade the tank across and hope it comes out the other side ok. This is something else the T72 does so much better. No, short limited clean wars with good support it'll do fine. Long expansive dirty wars with limited resources and it will probably perform very badly.
What a load of codswallop!
@@YoureDumbForLife Oh come on now. Two wars, that's it. One of them only lasted a few days (ground offensive), the other one a couple of weeks. Both against a very weak opponent. Strewth, it was like Tottenham Hotspur v a ten man Accrington Stanley. Iraq was ok against the likes of Iran and Kuwait, but against a NATO led 35 nation coalition, they were always on a hiding to nothing. Challenger is great in a short limited war where the odds are all stacked in its favour, as was the case in 1991 and 2003, but a long drawn out conflict over a wide area where supplies are 'irregular' and support is 'hit and miss' and weaknesses are discovered (as they always will be in a long widespread conflict), and training is minimal at best, like every other tank, it will struggle. Look at the German Leopard II. Regarded as possibly the best tank in the world a few years ago. However, the Syrian War has exposed its weaknesses and its sheen has dried up a little. Still a damn good tank of course, but no longer the 'invincible' creature it was before.
You are right. Also no countries buy these tanks unlike leopard, abrams vs...
Challenger 2 will probably never find itself in a long drawn out war probably because it will most likely never happen, it is designed to destroy soviet armour also the quantities of chally built are quality over quantity unlike the t72 also economically the UK does not have the necessary funds to have large amounts of armour nor would it be economically viable to go to war just to test out some tanks
Turkish still can't use leopards properly :D
amazing machene, way too heavy
Why are they wearing red 😂🤣
Pink camou? Wtf? Lmfaol, looks sexy though! Hahaha
You never seen the pink SAS landrovers, they found a faded pink is better desert camo colour than the typical sand browns.
Pink works very well as a camo in the desert apposed to a shade of khaki/tan. This is because at range when looking down the desert, the sun creates this sort of shade of pink as you can see in the video where as using a khaki/tan is never perfect as the shade of sand can vary at different times of day and in the shade etc.
If a tank was painted with the same color as its surroundings I.e the desert...it will make it easier to spot than if it were pink
