- "This is a very accurate weapon," says tank company commander Volodymyr about the British Challenger 2 gun.
The L30A1's sharp 120mm rifled gun and tough multi-layered Chobham armor are what set this British tank apart.
14 such tanks were received by the 82nd separate air assault brigade, which has been engaging them in combat operations for a year.
Although the Challenger 2 is considered one of the most advanced tanks, its use in a full-scale war proved to be quite limited.
"You ride it - you rest. This is not Soviet equipment, it is European, completely different," praises Challenger 2 Serhiy, the senior mechanic-driver of the platoon.
Ukrainian tankers also note the security of Challenger 2. One of the tanks was blown up by a mine, but survived.
At the same time, security makes the Challenger 2 one of the heaviest modern tanks and makes it difficult to use it on the battlefield in Ukraine.
"It's hard for it to ride because it's heavy and the soil can't withstand it," explains tank company commander Volodymyr.
In addition, to the unique Challenger 2 cannon, Ukrainian tankers received armor-piercing high-explosive shells, which are used exclusively for the destruction of enemy equipment and are inappropriate for the destruction of infantry positions. This makes the use of the tank quite limited in Ukraine.
"The machine is cool, but it is prepared for only one purpose - to hit heavy armored vehicles," summarizes the role of Challenger 2 tanker Volodymyr.

Я так понял, что Членожор - танк мечты просто потому что к боевым действиям его не подпускают за бесполезностью? И вправду, в таком случае служить на нем мечта кажного справжнього укроиньця.
Теперь и с абрамсом так же) Стоило только их впервые применить в реальном бою - и в первый же месяц из 30 "чудо-танков" прокакали семь, причем один из них уже на выставку трофеев едет в виде кучи металлолома.

Судя по тому что люли в кадре без экипировки, съемки происходят где-то далеко от линии фронта. Полагаю что Челенджер хорошо себя проявил в съемках этого ролика.😅

The most important part of a Challenger is the tea making facility. British tanks require a lot of tea to work.
I was surprised the boiling vessel didn't get a mention. The most british feature of all.

Если удачно договориться , то за такой танк в хорошем состоянии хлопцы могут по квартире в Подмосковье получить и неплохую работу. А если не договариваться- их сожгут вместе с этим чудо-танком. И развеет ветер пепел от неразумных панцерников....
С некоторыми уже так и получилось. Сдали бы абрамс в исправном виде - были бы в шоколаде, а так сами сгорели, а танчик раздолбанный на выставку трофеев волокут.

There are already Challenger 1 and Challenger 2 tanks as well as pre production examples at the Tank Museum in Bovington England.
It is the best armoured vehicle museum in the world, I recommend if you ever get the chance that you go there, you will not be disappointed.
I am certain that when the Ukraine War is over if possible they would be delighted to have this tank on display in a place of honour.

Самый лучший танк тот что не воюет. После первого подбития в великом прошлогоднем походе на Крым, челленджер воююет только в тиктоках. На лбс замечен не был. Полагаю максимум используется для стрельбы с закрытых позиций. Такая вот бронированная низкоэффективная артиллерия. Но видео в ютубе как он всех в тылу побеждает, больше всего.

BS the Challenger 1 was used in the Gulf Warin the early 90s and Challenger 2 was used in the Invasion of Iraq in 2003.
The Challenger has destroyed many Iraqi tanks in Iraq these were mainly older Soviet era T54/T55 models.

It’s more about government cutbacks shrinking all 3 branches of the armed forces.
Even the Royal Navy with its 2 big carriers is too small.
The RAF is way too small too as is the British Army.
All of these cuts when we have had a right wing government since 2010.
Hopefully after the General Election this year we will have a Labour government that will improve things and increase funding to the military.

Although much of the Challenger is steel obviously it also uses the latest armour composites that include ceramics and other materials.
The original composite armour was British and was called Chobham armour after the place where it was developed.

Interesting to see the opinions of the Ukrainian tankers to the Challanger 2. It was designed with British tank doctrine in mind - which was defensive fighting on NATO's Central Front against the Warsaw Pack and massed tank assaults.

@@AstroGremlinAmerican actually, he is correct, he did say "in principle" rather than literal, the challenger has a hydrogas type suspension system, not a million miles away from the mini system, beefed up obviously, but the ride apparently is something else when compared to conventional tank suspension.

I also owned a Mark 1 Austin Mini which I can tell you definitely did not have hydro gas suspension.

USA could have sent a lot of gear. But we have a system in which the Pentagon sells old weapons to Congress and gets cash for new contracts. Politics, not helping a friend fight a war with all we have.
The Challenger actually has a range of ammunition designed for different targets, but it sounds as if this tank has only HESH rounds, and they've been told to use them only against heavy armour, whereas it's highly effective against any sort of hardened target. The restriction is probably a tactical choice - a Challenger can be almost guaranteed to hit and destroy its target, so best to keep it for the most difficult to destroy - heavy armour.

What he actually says is that they have a variety of ammunition, but whatever they have for buildings and entrenched infantry is significantly less effective than the Soviet counterpart for the same targets. It's not the case that they are being told and therefore don't know that the rounds are actually highly effective, he is saying the decision was made based on experience (including his own). In terms of explosive potential it goes something like: US HEAT fragmentation < new US "universal" (heat+high explosive, forgot the name) ~= UK HESH

The whole aspect of Tank warfare has changed in this conflict revealing the vulnerability and strengths of various tanks and the increasing threat of Drones. It also demonstrates that the CHALLENGER is a great tank, just ask the men who use it in this war zone.

Actually the tanks of NATO were designed to primarily fight on the plains of West Germany destroying the Soviet armour which would outnumber NATO armour if WW3 had ever broken out.
In the Cold War they designed to move into position. Wait and with their thick armour and accurate guns hit advancing Soviet units.
NATO knew it would have to hold back a full Warsaw Pact attack until reinforcements of men and equipment could arrive from further back in Europe and across the Atlantic from the USA and Canada.
This was part of the reason for NATO always having large naval forces that could protect ships bringing forces across. Same as in WW2 where the Allied navies protected convoys and destroyed the German U boats.

I just read an article that a Ukrainian T-64BV could have taken the record with a tank v tank kill over 6.5 miles away, with the assistance of a spotter drone and some kind of software.

It can fire APFSDS, but it's custom built for the L30A1, so that the eggs is _not_ spun by the rifling. Unfortunately because it's two piece ammo it puts a hard limit on dart length which limits max penetration.

Епоха танків закінчується. А ті танки, які є треба використовувати з користю - лише з закритих позицій і лише в обороні. У наступі він уже не такий ефективний, як у 2 світову війну. Закриті позиції повинні бути в землі: з залізобетонну дот з двома виходами на позицію стрільби (спочатку на одну позицію виїжджає, відстрілявся, назад під землю в укриття, перезарядка, переміщення на другу позицію, відпрацювання). Дот повинен мати РЕБ, окремо від доту склад захищений БК. Але це робота інженерних військ, правильних рішень командирів від бригади і вище. А так стояти десь в тилу і чогось чекати, коли війська відступають.... Це для чого було їх отримувати, щоб по полям кататися і паливо палити, незрозуміло це все. Це не стосується цих хлопців, це стосується штабів бригад і вище, бо час іде, війська потроху відступають, і треба щось робити, а не жалітися, що все погано, що зброя вам не та, техніка теж. Це пишу лише тому, що колись бачив таке укриття для танків, це дуже ефективно для оборони, але треба, щось інженерні війська і залучені будівельні компанії попрацювали над цим.

Ну и спасибо конечно каналу за работу и труд. Но, надо быть тактичнее и готовиться к каждому выпуску. У Хромадьске стиль репортажей всегда был вальяжный. Но, все же хотелось бы, чтобы репортеры были более профессиональнее.
Уважительнее надо относиться к бойцам и защитникам. Тем более люди же смотрят Вас. Говорить бойцу, который воюет, как он с таким телом залезает в танк - некрасиво.
These soldiers don't have such thin skins. I think this reporter is excellent and knows how to talk to soldiers after all this time she has spent with them. I think the men were not offended and were probably glad to see a new face at their positions.
