Plecostomus - Suckermouth Catfish Catch & Cook - DELICIOUS! (How to Clean Armored Catfish)

- Throw spearing and how to cook a Plecostomus! These fish are the last fish that I expected to taste as good as they did. They are invasive in Florida, causing a ton of damage in lake, river, canal and ponds. They established a population by being released by aquarium owners into Florida's waterways. I cooked them over an open, oak wood fire and was SHOCKED at the end result. Thanks for watching!

Nicely done. I think that fish with the hard black shells is also famous in Guyana. Its called ' Sea Hassar'. ! Enjoy my friend. 😁😁🙏👍💯👍🙏🇬🇾
Thanks man! It was very good. Is it famous like the regular Hassa?
@@Shouldawornshoes Not as famous but people does eat them.
Dude I just watched a video where some guy caught one, poorly hacked at it, and dressed it in pickle juice before putting it on the grill to be cooked in its own shell. Clearly he had no intention of even eating it. One chick ate a bite and that was it. I appreciate that you don’t waste your kills and actually commit, experimenting or not. You actually prepare yours the same way you would if you did it every day. Thanks, man.
It wasn't bad! It's super important to cook it right and season it. Thanks for watching and for the kind words!
Lmao are you talking about "catfish and carp" I think we watched the same video 🤣

This video was such a hoot to watch! You cracked me up several times. One piece of advice... Remember that your mother IS watching (your biggest fan) and that maybe the 'nearly getting killed by an alligator' anecdotes are giving me an new and not so delightful anxiety disorder. Love you! And the boys were darling, as always.
Hahahaha sorry... I’m glad it was a hoot. 😂 Love you.
@@Shouldawornshoesis that your mum?
Here in my country we fillet it and then we wash it with lime to get rid of the fishy smell and taste. And we fry it like a popcorn chicken. Delicious
First time catching your channel glad needed something fresh and your personality sold me brother.good job! 😅
Someone should start a restaurant in Florida specializing in serving these exotics! I would drive down to try these! Calls it a Central American restaurant too to gain interest!
New subscriber. Been catching trout in our canal all day. Loved the video.
That’s awesome. Trout fishing is some of my favorite! Thanks for subscribing!
I love to fish but a little bit of fish in my diet goes a long way with me. I definitely love portobello mushrooms! I used to grow them at a commercial mushroom farm. They are absolutely awesome!
They are great! Thanks for watching!
I’m getting such Florida man vibes… I love it! Got a sub man good stuff!
I enjoyed watching this video. Good luck on your RUclips adventure. I'll be here when you reach a million subscribers
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for your support!!
If you put the onion, and a little bit of the Seasonings/herbs in the foil alone, cook it a bit, and _then_ put the fish in there, you'll get nicely caramelized, or even crispy onions, without over-cooking the fish.
Always consider how different ingredients cook slower or faster, for example:
If I have a recipe that calls for both minced garlic and minced shallots (sautéed), then I'll put the shallots in the Skillet alone with the oil, and give them, like, maybe a 90- second to 2- minute head start. This is because I know that the minced garlic will burn much more easily/ much faster. This way, the shallots and garlic will both Reach that _"almost-burning-but-Not_ phase," at the same time, and then I can add the wine, and start building my sauce (for example).
The same goes for anything. It could be as simple as baking some Brussel sprout halves with onion petals. Obviously the Brussel sprouts will start to brown in the oven _wayyy before_ onions. Simple Fix: throw the onions in a Skillet with some butter and oil, and Seasoning, and cook them like ⅓ of the way. With the sprouts, you just melt the butter, and Only use the Skillet to toss the sprouts, just to coat them, but without cooking them at all.
Now, when you bake the onions and sprouts together, they brown at the same time.
Nothing is worse than under-cooked onions with over-cooked meat, or whatever else.
You have to stagger-in different ingredients, into different recipes.
Thanks for those tips!
I love your positivity, it can even make something gross become delicious! ❤😂
That shell was super hard but with that knife it came right off!
Damn your living my dreams man thats awesome great video cant wait to have kids teach them how to catch, clean, cook
Thank you!
Great video! Reminded me of that catfish that tried to cross the road.
Thanks! Those walking catfish are crazy. They will walk a mile! I’d love to find some of them.
Well many people love catfish, and a plecostomus (though kept as pets by many of us) are a catfish, so there you go!
Great video, I learned a lot!
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it.
There's huge ones 2 times the size of the ones in this vid near me! I can't wait to try them
I saw a horde of these in a canal in Broward. You'd probably need a boat to gig them, but I think a sturdy cast net could get you ten in a throw. Next to the IHOP at Sheridan and University Dr. Good luck!
I used to live right near there! There are tons down there. Thank you for watching and subscribing!
@@Shouldawornshoes 4:30 ID that monster gar before you spear it. Alligator Gar are protected statewide. AFAIK the other species are not.
@@TUKByV Thanks man. I don't think he was talking about alligator gar but if he was, I sure won't be spearing it.
Great seeing you be a good Dad :)
Good cooking, brother!
Great video cause I saw a video saying that fish wasn’t edible I’m sold 👍🏾💯
Thank you!!
@@Shouldawornshoes keep it going ✌🏾
Best armoured catfish so far! Bring me mode if you have some 😅
And avoid catching Gars if it is a catfish invasion.
Nicely done! I have eaten plecos in southern Colombia where they serve them whole on your plate (apparently boiled after being gutted) and you have to break the scutes with the back of your spoon to get at the meat. Not my favorite fish but glad that I have eaten them in case I have to survive in the jungle some day.
I don’t know how I missed your comment!! That’s crazy! I’d love to try them that way. Thanks for watching and I apologize for taking so long to reply!
Does it taste good? Is it tasty?
Do you have a video of the parts and construction of fire pit... especially the swing about grill grate?
Unfortunately I don’t. A good friend of mine built it for me but I don’t think he videoed it. Maybe we can do another one and make a video about it one day! Thanks for watching!
Great video 👍
You have a new subscriber 😜
nice place very beautiful💕
Love from India my friend ❤
I use to have 2 of these in the take with my Oscar's they lived for so long
Watched this cause I caught a massive more yellower one with a cast net at my local park, south Tx
Armored catfish’
Greetings from C.A🍻
My father would have lived to catch these fish. Ii remember we caught a fluke he was so excited,
honestly you could probably market this as freshwater monkfish
Thanks for this video! I got one in the cooler and trying to figure out how to cook it! lol
There you go! Best way I've found to do it's least lol.
I Love see our kids in the video🤩
Btw I love your videos!
Sucker mouth catfish can survive 24 hours without water so far i know
Dang! I’ve seen them dried up on the bank before.
@@Shouldawornshoes In our country there's a polluted river called "burigonga"..this river is filling up with this fish... people are getting worried about it....
is the slime it produces (12:40) part of its preparation to go into survival mode?
Hey I don’t know you but I really enjoy your videos. It’s so clean no cursing and all. I love it🎉🎉🎉 btw I’ve never seen a fish like that!
Thank you!!
I HAVE THAT PLECO TOO IN MY AQUARIUM
yes go and get you some.....
I also follow a Japanese guy who cuts and eats fish on here. Wonder if he has/will do a video with this fish.
why r u preparing that mushroom straight on that table
Cuz it was there? Lol
now the best way to cook suckermouth catfish are you have to season the meat with herb and spice then you can fry them with or without any batter
Wow... very few videos say that the fish tastes good. We need a solution it is proliferating in the US.
Cinema gold is watching the goat nibble the olive oil.
I loved that part.
I always had plecostomus is in an aquarium and they kept it very well cleaned
Butter?
That was not a longnose gar. Longnose gar mouths are way longer and narrower than that. My best guess is that it was a Florida Gar
Thanks! Ill keep that in mind!
In Florida people should always carry shotgun when fishing. Also eating invasive species should be the law. Hell I'm even up for snakes!
Amazing video, insta subbed!
Are these legal to spear from land in Florida?
Yes. They are invasive and have no harvest regulations.
How do you store your fish overnight? Thanks.
Always better to just clean them right away but when I don’t have the time, I make a salt brine in a bucket and store it in my garage fridge over night. It works great for some fish but can make others mushy.
@@Shouldawornshoes Thank you. You really deserve more subscribers. Keep it up, and it will happen!
@@floridaaerialmedia That is so nice of you to say! Thank you. I have no plans of stopping. I love sharing what I do! 🙂
Pleco do not eat mud or filter mud. They eat algae which is seaweed. Like nori. Pleco is delicious because of the food it eats. After all its a catfish.
Doesnt it hurt your feet to walk around barefoot like that? Great vid, its clear that you love what you do.
Lol i just noticed the name of your channel, this is the first vid I've watched.
Hurts sometimes. That's what I say I Shoulda worn shoes lol. Thanks for watching!
You in Florida near ottercreek?
A little ways south of Otter Creek!
I just caught a 5lb armored cat, on a Large diving frog lure.. blew my mind. Watched it happen. I dk…
Next video see if you can tan the skins of these. Some pleco skin boots would be sick af!
People say it taste like catfish or lobster depending on how you cook it.
Didn't see it "flake" as you tried to insist it did, but regardless, good video on how to make use of an incredibly invasive fish. well done!
Its crazy! We over here eating pets in Florida. Iguana, fish tank fish ,dogs and cats next. 😅
I bet ya it would rock deep fried !!
100%!
You look like a young trey Parker
Ik he meant the meat but imagine it says shell next seconds: takes knife smashes fish tear head and bone blood splashes 😂
Use a cast net.
Too easy! Lol
You seasoned one side of the fish?🤦🏾
Less white 😂 ❤️👍🏾
🤣🤣
my knife broke
Why is cilantro controversial?
Just a joke because lots of people hate it.
Way kool!
Thanks!
😬
👿
Such a shame to eat such a fine fish:(
They are delicious!
you people really doesnt like to wash vege ek ayoo
apa je yang diorg rajin cuci bro hahaha...
normal catfish tastes like ass...if this doesn't, that's a really good thing
Haha Catfish can be very good if cooked right. It was good but not better than catfish. Thanks for watching!
Pls kill the fish when you have speared them
No good
womp womp
Don’t say subscribe or whatever til after the video. I just instinctively clicked off right as you said it. If that doesn’t give you enough information on current virtual human interaction/input I’m not sure what else will. Good video and goodbye, sir.
lolll this fish is not good for cooking
so what hes cooking thos was 3 years ago he is not reading this
You're just eating a thing with mercury content 😢
1:11 ur dog be sayin "brah u toe-tally missed and i saw!"
This dude needs some aquatic shoes. 🫨
Glad to see you killing them
