- I went to a small creek in the mountains to try and catch some suckers! After trying for over an hour with a rod and reel, I decided to go in and try to catch them with my hands! It was a lot harder than I expected but I managed to catch one!

Thanks for watching!
Amen brother!!!
"I'll see you on the other side" - 'squash' I died laughing. Dude this content is good. I don't know much about fishing but this is really entertaining. Also, did I see you driving down Mapleton the other day haha?
No, I haven’t been up there for a few months.
Man your locations are awesome bro 😎🤙
If you get a chance, come out here to UT and fish. I grew up in California trout and bass fishing and it's completely different out here.
Thank God you killed those sucker fish. They suck up all the game fish
The game fish are all invasive. They shouldn’t be there in the first place other than cut throat trout. The suckers on the other hand belong there
@@eecm_ this is an old ass comment-
That comment wasn’t necessarily for you since other people still see this video. I don’t see the problem with clearing up misinformation even if it’s old.
Don’t forget we’re invasive species too. Morals and ethics teach not killing an animal unless you are to use it.
Don’t give up on those suckers yet, man! I’ve been eating them for years. We gig them during the winter and have a fish fry in the bank.
1. Scrape all the scales off
2. Filet the fish; leave the skin on
3. Score the fish every 1/8” by cutting to but not through the skin. This allows those bones to cook down in the fryer
4. Bread the filets in cornmeal or fish fry of your choice
5. Deep fry at 350 for a few minutes
6. Remove the fish and add salt and pepper
7. Enjoy with ketchup, hot sauce, or any other sauce
Let me know why you think. I can send a few pictures if it’ll help :) Enjoy!
I don't even filet or bread carp. I just scrape, score, and cook whole. If the fish is too big for a butter filled fry pan, then I cook it on my smoker in a butter filled baking pan. Use a good Cajun or catfish seasoning. Do not over cook or it will become crumbly like in this video. Just like catfish or tilapia. I think it tastes a lot like rock bass from the Puget sound, just less oily.
You sir .. must be from Missouri..sucker grabbing an all time sport in the spring .. hunt turkey in the morning .. sucker grab in the middle of the day .. I live in Oklahoma but have done my fair share of both sports in Missouri..
the secret is to score than and cook them hot ..
I love the taste..
Onward and Upward is the Watchword ..
It’s a Missouri thing apparently lol suckers are delicious!
@@benhawke7231well shoot,I told him wrong…I thought maybe it just wasn’t cooked enough…dang,
try it with corn meal and milk i been eating them for 60 yrs scrape the scales. Filet the fish. but leave the skin on cut the meat part of the filet but dont go thru the skin, the bones basically cooks down or comes very brittle, bones are no problem we use to call sucker poor man's walleye
I like the idea! I’ve only caught a few suckers before (white suckers in one of my local streams in NJ). I don’t target them much, but I know they like worms.
If you love power bait you probably had an epic childhood.
I would have flipped a rock over and found a worm you would have caught a sucker fast
I've been waiting for a video lol. Can't wait to watch this!
Hope you enjoy! Got a camping trout video coming next week!
Tossing big boulders into the school works too.
You overcooked the sucker. That's why it crumbled. Also you don't filet a sucker or carp. Suckers are carp and cooked the proper way they are delicious.
I think the flesh is really mushy because they are spawning. And it will have little to no flavor. I watched another video of a fisherman fry common sucker and he said it was tasty.
I’ll have to try em when they’re not spawning then. Thanks for watching!
So much sucker... haha nice job, man. I feel you on the GoPro issues. I am constantly battling mine with freezing and losing clips. It's just bad software :( They could fix it, but why bother when they're the biggest name in town, ya know?
Yeah. I might get the newest ones and see how those are. There probably about the same just 200$ more.
@@bassntroutfishing I picked up a 9 a month or two ago. It seems way more stable than my 7 was, but not flawless. It has crashed and frozen with that "Repairing File" BS just like the 7, just much less frequently.
Nasty. You get bravery points for eating a swimming vacuum.
😅
Why are they nasty? They eat everything other good tasting fish eat.
@@lets_fish_already_9345 They suck everything off the bottom and most lakes they are found in around here have disgusting bottoms
Cooked trout and suckers together without telling anyone.
Friends ate all of them and didnt know the difference. Best tasting is a Rocky mountain whitefish.
Bro, those are pretty good to eat. You need to fillet, cut the ribs out and then leave the skin on and then slice the meat every 1/8th to 1/4 of an inch all the way down the fillet to cut all the small bones up. You slice just to the skin and the skin keeps everything together. Then bread in cornmeal or corn starch and fry in oil. I catch those here in co and eat them occasionally... They're really not bad. The bones, once cut up like that cook soft like the bones in canned salmon, you just eat them. Scale them as well. Alternatively, i suppose you might be able to skin them, leave them whole but clean the guts out. And then slice down into the ribs and backbone would work as well i think. After you cook it, you can then make fish cakes out of it and re-fry it...
- Good video. Thanks. I am new here 😊
Welcome!
I realize I am late to the party but you need some education. Suckers ARE NOT AN INVASIVE SPECIES, do not compete with trout. Do not eat their eggs. Are found in most North American waters. Are important to the ecosystem. Like catfish, carp, gar, bowfins are misunderstood and part of natures cleanup crew.
I guess you know more about this specific waterway than someone who lives there. Let me educate YOU. In this specific area suckers are so dense they can and have outcompeted trout. There are two reservoirs below this creek that are taken over by them because they thrive more than the trout do in drought years. One lake got drained to try to remove them. There are a number of lakes around here that struggle to have a decent sport fishery because chub and sucker density is so high. Not saying every sucker in a lake is bad. Not at all. But around here they’re a nuisance. Can’t pretend like you know everything about every lake bud.
@@bassntroutfishing this would be an alright reason if all those trout species you listed weren’t invasive(considering the suckers are native). I guess I know more than someone who lived there. To be completely honest I’m really disappointed with this, I used to watch all your videos and thought you knew what you were talking about.
Filleting in dirt? 😂
Dont worry about KRYSTAL GENERATION think, keep fishing 🎣 a
Hey! What state/area or mountain range you fishing in? Looks amazing!
You don't mention what it taste like other then the texture 😒🙄 what a waste of watching
They only good for making fish patties they have a lot of bone like carp
Cutting through the rib cage is a real mistake. I had sucker for the second time tonight and it was delicious. Fillet the proper way, dip in egg and bread crumbs, fry in oil with some pepper and salt and we had a fine meal. There are some small bones, but nothing to worry about. Lemon pepper is like steak sauce--completely unnecessary if you know how to cook!
Finally watched all of your videos! Awesome stuff man! You should hit the uintas sometime! We were at mill hollow yesterday and lost count of how many we stocker bows we caught, I got one small Brookie but it was a beaut and like 2 tiger.
Dude I was at that bridge today
You probably should have tried live worms but at least you got a little exercise.
I NEVER kill anything I won't eat
If you’re going to save a fish to eat you probably shouldn’t lay it on a hot rock in the meantime. Beyond that bring some sort of cutting board or a surface to clean the fish not in the dirt.
The frantic seconds before and after you roped that thing was smegal off lord the rings!
I do the same thing when I catch them.
I really enjoy catching Carp. We took one home last year and smoked it.. It really wasn’t bad. Maybe different sucker fish taste different. Try one smoked
What's your name ? Just wondering
There is millions of suckers in the pond in my yard
Sucker fish are a sign of a healthy ecosystem
Not here
I’ve moved to Utah and I want to trout fish. You should take me fishing haha I also make content.
Love the vids man. Please make sure you wet your hands before handling trout, we gotta protect their slime coating if we aren't keeping them!
Reminds me of the guy from lord of the rings chasing fish 😄 great video
You should keep some suckers and fille them and use there meat as bait for ice fishing or normal fishing
Maybe I’ll try that next spring!
Drift a weightless crawler
Red worms that’s what we use
Love your videos!! Man I'd like to go there trout fishing!! Tite lines brother!!
Sometimes you just got to do what you got to do😂
I think he caught a Pokémon
Guys, guys, guys
I'm sorry but i can't even finish watching because of the ('oh my god! oh my god! oh my god, you guys!!!') overdramatized acting when you see something or get a bite.. I think you would be more successful on RUclips if you just kept it real, unless your target audience is literally 10-12 year olds.. I seriously mean that as constructive criticism. And the first sucker you caught is perfect size for eating and the second you caught is not 6 lb. Maybe 2 lbs.
Don’t watch the video
nobody cares about your opinion
2024 Version?
Not many left sadly, every sucker i catch i release.
Love the background scenery. Nice change from Michigan.
Glad you like it!
so fun!
When are you doing more bass fishing videos
We’ll see. Not a whole lot of bass fishing around me. But hopefully this year I’ll do some bass fishing
I’m thinkin maybe they wasn’t cooked long enough”all” fish will have that texture if not cooked long enough”I’m sure you know” I digress….lol….they are fine eatin to a lot of people tho I promise, maybe just not your thing Buddy…livin your passsion for fishin,I’ve subscribed and will be watching….later buddy
To all those people out there whom he is referring to, read the fishing regulations for the state and TRY TO EDUCATE YOURSELF FOLKS !!!!!!! U KNOW WHO U R !!!!!!!!!
Great Video man! I have some goodies coming for you soon
Dude that sounds great! I’ve got my email in the description of every video if you ever want to talk!
Love watching these when I can’t get out on the water nice trout to they are not the easiest thing to find
They are all over our creek here at home. Will be spawning soon. Might be better making fish cakes. I have never cooked one, but may have to try it. Good video my guy
Suckers do take a little know-how, and they’re great table fare too…even when you gotta remind some certain people that you’re not chasing “the other white meat”……
Just caught my first sucker while jigging for walleye probably just gonna smoke it
Can we fish together next time I’m out in Utah?
Nice see you again..broth..
Yeah man, thanks for sticking around!
I see you have an old school ugly stik lite??? I have 1 that i love and its my favorite rod out of the 45 i own. Great choice
i know exactly what you mean by the texture of applesauce i love surf perch fishing but i never keep them because they have that same texture just mushy and weird
we use to bow hunt those suckers smoke em but they do suck to eat even smoked
You learn this hand method watching Katmai grizzlies hehe!?
In the spring run in Michigan some people catch sucker and mash them into patties. They're deep fried, never tried it, doesn't sound appealing but would probably try it.
Omg! We gotta be brothers from another mother! I've totally done that haha!
The game warden in the bushes watching this guy with binoculars 😂
It looks like a Barbel which we have in the UK
In Oregon you would get a ticket for molesting the fish
You need to get a spear and snorkel so you can spear them
catch them like a bear man get dj action camera
Interesting, I didn't know that stuff about the suckers. Wish I knew where to go to fish here but I just dont
I just caught some bass, I have always wondered about Sucker Fish
I love your videos man!!!!
Thanks man!
@@bassntroutfishing OFc!!!
I caught a 2 foot one of those out of a certain lake that is close by 😉 through the ice a few years back. Hard fighting fish!
I bet. Those things have kind of taken over down there.
You ever get bit by shivers?
No suckers! Thanks for trying
first off you been gone for about 10 day and alll you can catch a is succer fish, man you better stick with gold trout.LOL i thought you had run off with ome of the farm girls..LOl but just keeep up with the trout, im going for some tigers at Red Creek my self in the morning.. have a good on, and i'll be back for more videos.
Haha. Don’t worry, got a LOT of trout videos coming.. Thanks for watching!
All the people saying that are just plain suckers. LOL, just saying. On a serious note, I do like the taste of the sucker species. Just don't enjoy eating them cause of the bones.
I think that’s the dealbreaker most of the time on what animals we eat and what ones we don’t. Thanks for watching!
Grab a big rock and squish it
Compound bow and fiberglass arrow is real good fishing gear for suckers...
Stick to the carp, suckers are native and help maintain a healthy ecosystem.
I'm from ut is that creak near strawberry or in the Ashley national forest near uintah county
I don’t reveal spots on my channel.
i caught at least a 10lb sucker out of a river i fish at
nice!
Too bad sucker fish suck so bad! But it sure looked delicious in the frying pan!
It did look really good in the pan😅 I was so disappointed!
Canning is best
Just an education. The suckers you killed are native to the Western US. They are not invasive. The species that are spawning are longnose suckers and prepared properly are amazing eating.
Those are common suckers and cause the trout in lakes nearby to be really skinny. So yes they’re invasive, and fish and game doesn’t care if you kill thousands of them a day
No I’m not saying you did anything wrong, but I’m saying that they are longnose suckers. We find them here in Colorado along with white suckers. Longnose suckers when spawning get the darker coloration along with the yellowish white coloration on them.
There are several species of suckers including the ones you mentioned. For instance there is a species called a red horse and that species alone there are so many subspecies of themselves. Just like cutthroats and rainbows. There are many subspecies
This what I did when I was little
Same
You threw the best part away, you should have cooked the eggs
Why would suckers not be good for the ecosystem? Are they invasive there? I can’t imagine that being the case.
Looked it up and they are definitely not invasive.
These are in this area
@@bassntroutfishing oh I apologize then. I had read that they are restricted to a very small area geographically and assumed that meant they hadn’t spread. I imagine their true native range must be absolutely tiny.
I'd never eat a sucker. Nice video.
Thanks for watching!
instead of getting water why didnt u just throw a rock?
Maybe I will next time...
@@bassntroutfishing can u bow
fish for them
Should’ve used the trout guts for bait to catch the suckers
its illegal
Where are you fishing at?
I don’t reveal spots
@@bassntroutfishing can't say I blame you with a shot though. Keep up the videos I love them. Do you at least have any advice on ways to find new spots somewhat off the beaten path without spending hours driving around?
Trout will come around those suckers when they are spawning to feed on the sucker eggs.
I should try some salmon eggs there. Pretty similar, I bet they’d be all over them.
