Dressed to the nines in tartan... couldn't get my bestman or groomsmen to wear kilts, though. The piper piped us out of the sanctuary to this, played a couple of wedding tunes as folks came out, and bookended it with Highland Laddie. I still weep to hear Brown Haired Maiden piped.
Shame you couldn’t persuade... the kilt is a very ‘liberating ' garment.... unrivalled for fornication and diarrhoea! Quoting John Masters ..join a highland regiment!
I can't think of any rendering of the folk songs of the Corries, that I come back to again and again, than this one in particular. But I like their style and range, so I'm not excluding all their other songs.
"I know where I'm going" is one of my favorite movies; just watched it for the fourth time and I came here for the "Nut Brown Maiden" and read your post.
I'm looking for my Nut Brown Maiden with the Pearly-Pearly Teeth from the movie, Will there be any Stars in my Crown. This is great fun though 🥰🇯🇲🏴🕊️🔥✝️
My good lady is from rhodesia sorry Zimbadland and she is the love of my life.Scotland traditionally made no provision for black white or any colour inbetween .As we aur aw jock Thampsons bairns.Hence an 18th century nut brown maiden who wis chased by all and zundry simply fur hur looks as a fine maiden.Wae nae racial connotation.!
@@VentraleStar is it confusing the ballad by thomas percy nut brown maid and the scottish folk song nut brown maiden, thing is this is 100% a scottish folk song translated from Gaelic to English , these songs werent really written down but simply sung and passed from generation to generation, so it is highly likely that only thing you will find on its origin and confusion abound with the written record of "nut brown maid" an English poem written in 1562 by thomas percry as it was published ,however folk songs are passed on by spoken word and not really written down until much later.
Nothing racist at all. It simply means she has nut brown hair. Another version of this song is Horo My Brown Haired Maiden. You obviously are not familiar with Scottish folk songs.
Their voices are enough by themselves. Nothing else needed. Rich. Melodious. Perscussive. And everything else...
This was the pipe tune my wife and I walked out to at our wedding. Brings back sweet memories of our youth. Thank you for posting.

In all of America, no one can match the Corries. Wish I could have seen them play live.

Mo chaileag laghach, bhoidheach
Cha phos mi ach tu

Who came here because of ‘eyewitness Auschwitz’ by filip muller? They sang this song as a work detail was leaving camp. Good read but a horrifying one
What's with the hobbit outfits?
Andrew M: It's what they wear when performing.
This is a Gaelic song that does not translate to English. End of
This is so racist. It's basically is saying that brown people are the most beautiful... DISLIKE *sarcasm*

Agree with brackenby the lady has brown hair and nothing to do with whatever race she’s from, get your facts right first
