The thing that struck me was the Kim was taking care of the dog, the lawn, the mail, everything. Why is this this so true? Of course she is asleep as soon as the car takes off. I feel ya Kim! Bet your filling out all the camp forms too!
Yes! And throw out that trash, because when you turn the ac off while you're on vacation.... Oh, and run the dishwasher one last time, AND LEAVE THE DISHWASHER DOOR OPEN AFTERWARDS. Learned that the hard way.
3:09 Kim is concerned about forgetting her sunglasses. Penn may have forgotten the attic light, back door, and contacts. Um, guys, check the back seat... YOU FORGOT THE KIDS!!!!
@@russmjonesbuilding character and survival skills. . . trade off is abandonment issues and codependent relationships in their future but they might become one of the few that could navigate their way without the aid of technology. Or end up feral and living out of the back alley of the restaurant. But either way, building character and survival skills.
Glad I'm not the only one who does the pre packing laundry . Although in parts of the video I related more to Penn's relaxed way. But I also don't have to pack for a whole family. So (with all my laundry done the day before so everything is available) I usually do the actual packing in the last hour(s) right before leaving
When my son was little and we went out of the house I carried a small backpack, not a purse. It was my Mary Poppins bag and covered snack time, toys, sweaters or jackets, and headache medicine. The same went for vacations. At one point, I even started packing candles and matches, because the year before there was a power outage at the hotel we stayed in. My luggage was the same size as everyone else, I just knew how to pack and make everything fit. The only downfall to being like Kim is that whenever you go anywhere with people, they look to you to have what they need in an emergency.
So true! My family makes fun if me for over packing but then they are so glad I have the granola bar, band aid, water, hair tie, etc when they need it.
Same here. I have one backpack that I pack whatever in, and my family always expects me to have whatever medication, clothing item, or whatever else they need.
Mom of four here. Yes this is how it goes. I’m lol’ing and it’s nice to know other families have similar “packing for vacation” dynamics. One spring break when my youngest was still a baby (not walking yet) I was so busy I put a list together for my older kids and trusted they would pack accordingly. We get to our destination and I find out my 7 year old packed the clothes he was wearing, a pair of swim trunks, electronic games, toys, his toothbrush and nothing else. It was a great lesson learned and ever since he has become a meticulous suitcase packer. 😂
@@rnptenafly yes he wore the same clothes that entire week. We had a washer/dryer at the place we stayed and I did wash his clothes a few times while he was swimming.
Yeah, I think that doing this teaches them. If you would have always packed for him, he would have never understood why good planning is key for a trip.
"nobody wants to come back to a dirty house" Ha! Vindicated!! I'm not the only one who does this! Coming back from a vacation with suitcases full of dirty clothes and exhaustion from driving and herding children and seeing all the sites and getting all the things done, you want to come into a clean house throw everything on the floor and go sit down and relax.
This is freaky accurate for our family!! 🤣 I bought this packing list from Barnes & Noble that I fill out every time we leave town, and it has been a lifesaver. Of course, I’m the only one who uses it, haha!
I'm the organizer, travel agent, booker, concierge, luggage packer and car loader. I do it all and I take it as a personal mission to beat my high score on Tetris for every car trip!
That's me too! My husband packs his bag and helps make sure the house won't become a science experiment while we're gone. I do the planning, packing and loading. Then I sleep while he drives.
This is beyond true! My husband packs 10 minutes before our vacation. It drives me insane, I start preparing for vacation months in advanced. My husband also says “there’s stores there”. I also clean before vacation too, and plan my dogs schedule out. This whole video is funny because it’s true.
Mom with the snacks , packng for everyone else and cleaning before they leave is just SPOT ON in our house! And the husband being able to pack and fit everything this in the trunk. We can relate!! Haha so many hrs of tetris!
34 years, same. Except I am the tetris queen. Hubby organizes like everything has covid, six feet of separation, “Honey! Nothing fits.” I am like,” sit on the boogie boards, put pillows under the seat, suitcases upright for more room, cooler under the basket of groceries, sweater and coats on top to block the glare”. Done.
That’s my husband!!!! He’s like “we’re leaving at 11”. Ok. So he sees me at 10 not ready. Gets annoyed. Meanwhile, I get ready in 5 min (right before 11)and am either in car at 11 or before. Still waiting 10-20 min for him. Every. Single. Time.
The dad packing thing is spot on! My family is going to the beach on Friday and my dad took the whole day off so he could pack the car and not be rushed.
More realistic that you know. My dad once took us swimming without us. We were standing on the porch waiting for him to manoeuvre the car and he just drove off. (He did come back.)
Oh my goodness this made my day. We are literally going through this right now a we are missionaries in Haiti and are coming back stateside for the summer and so we've been doing this all week. I laughed so hard with the car Tetris thing because my husband is the SAME and even teases how God gives everyone gifts and He gave him the gift of packing haha. Honestly though it amazes me, when we had to pack up a container when we first moved to Haiti, I have no clue how he did it but he did. It's amazing. This was a great video 🙌🏼
Oh! Hope you guys have an amazing trip. God bless you sister and enjoy your vacations with your fam! And yes, God has a funny sense of humor, so I think your husband has a point right there hahahaha.
I hope you and those you know in Haiti are safe. I can't imagine how difficult it is for the people of Haiti right now. Praying aid reaches them soon to preserve as many lives as is possible.
I’m on vacation right now & that is EXACTLY what happened. Plus we have to remember turning off and/or unplugging appliances, adjust thermostat, make sure trash is collected from each room & put out, pack meds for entire family, make up, favorite toys for kids... the list goes on & on & on.
That Tetris reference is one I often use to describe my ability to pack anything- a car, moving truck, storage unit, individual items into boxes and totes.... I've moved a lot in my life and I have helped many dozens of others do the same, so I've obtained the ability to fit a Cadillac into a doghouse. I realize that's not the original meaning of that phrase, but it applies just as much here. Lol! 🤣😂
Yes! This was totally me, and I have thankfully passed my packing SKILLZ down to my 10 and 12 year old daughters, who now know to pack outfits in gallon ziplocks and label them, stuff suitcases until not even another pea would fit, and even pack their own fun stuff for the road. It is satisfying to see them pack so well! We are moving from CA to TX in a week - taking a 9 day road trip on the way - in a small sedan - and already ready to go! Thank you, Kim and Penn, you encourage me when I need it most!!!
This was literally me, my husband and kids before we went on our Florida vacation two weeks ago. I’m the “make sure everything we need gets packed”person and my husband packs the luggage in car like tetris lol. I even had to check my son’s luggage to make sure there was underwear in there.
Tip for getting children to pack for themselves but do it right: give them a packing list of all the things they need to pack including quantity, and have them check off the items to make sure they have it all.
Don't forget the vid on when you get there and realize you forgot your jeans. Or when you get home you realize you left shorts/cardigan behind. My late father held my cardigan hostage until I went back up to visit again :) Over 1k trip from waaaaay down South to Illinois. I would pack for all of us, because then people would have socks, underwear, a toothbrush, etc... I would tell my kids "I want 5 pairs of socks and underwear on the couch!" , do a count, give another instruction, etc... so they helped when they got older. I still pack for Hubby when he has a trip. He genuinely appreciates it, because he never has to worry about buying this or that and then finding space for it in his bag. I would also pack the car. I find it a personal challenge to get as much as I can in the trunk and not in the back seat. I have zero plans to travel this year. The transmission on my car died, so nope! My sister has two trips she has to make, so unless she wants to recreate the Oregon Trail and get a horse and wagon, then it probably won't happen.
Snacks for the road trip must be accessible to the front row too! Gotta go to Fresh Market/Whole Foods to get ‘bin snacks’ - these are stuffed in all the nooks and crannies in the front. Bag of chargers, bag of games, and a bag of books (Barnes paperback books ordered 3 weeks before trip with the points saved from AmEx). First aid bag for beach bag, bike tool bag (just in case), fly swatters, and rubber mallet for windy days when you have to tie down umbrella. Get on Libby (digital library app) - download audiobooks, ebooks and magazines. Ahhh, beach trip without Rona this time …spare mask tho and alcohol wipes, just because we are still playing it safe. Have fun y’all!
My husband is both of these! Manic laundry two days before the trip but always pulls something out of the basket that he wore the day before we leave, packing list on Microsoft To-Do, will pack some random crazy item we didn't need, is most concerned about all the chargers being in the bag, takes 12 books for a week trip, wins car Tetris against himself, and is snoring five minutes into the roadtrip even though he's the navigator. I'm just the driver and have to make sure my things even up on the packing list.
We just can't back from our vacation, and this was LITERALLY US. My dad packs the car like this, my mom cleans everything, etc. 🤣🤣 Thank you for giving us a great laugh!
Yeah, my husband is great in this tetris-car-packing up 🚘, he also takes care of planning the journey, packs up all necessary documents, electronic and medicine. I am the one who makes endless lists of what we need to buy in advance, what we need to pack, what needs to be done before we leave, who will water our plants and who will take care of our dog. And then I spend hours packing our family... So yeahhh, we are almost the same :) This summer we are heading to Italy, I can't wait to watch my kids play at the beach, husband sleep in the shade and I will eat delicious Italian food 🍕🍝🍦🍷and will not care about beach body 😀 We send greetings and kisses from Switzerland 🇨🇭
3 kids, almost 2, 5 & 7. Trip on a plane (a few years back). I had lists of every item down to what was in each bag. It was the ONLY way I could cope. They each had their little carry-on with snacks, and their “activities” for the wait-times. But, seriously, one still in diapers & bottles, and one with epipen-required allergies. (Needed a doctor’s note to carry the epipens in our carry-on, and an extra pen, in case we were in the middle of nowhere when it needed to be jabbed!) You can’t just be throwing stuff in a bag last minute. In the weeks leading up to it, every few days, my husband would just say, “Did you remember to pack…?” And the rest was on me! In his defence, HE booked everything!! Flights, rentals, meals, excursions! So, we make a great team!
I made packing lists for us all and kept them in the computer so we didn’t start from scratch each year. Things were adjusted and eventually both kids AND husband became in charge of their lists. And we would get gas, then circle back down our home street to check garage lol and because invariably someone forgot something. On my leaving checklist I included “stove turned off” and the like. Yep, everybody laughed until my husband refused to allow me to check the car before we left the hotel and had to drive an hour and a half (one way) back by himself when he forgot something valuable and we were all at home sleeping. 💕🐝
That is exactly us! I thought I was the only one that's stressed out over packing. I have to start two weeks before the trip and then I make a list of everything that goes into each bag take a picture of it I probably spend like six hours organizing to pack for a two to four week trip. My husband and three teen / college age daughters can pack up their stuff in under 10 minutes. Haha that's why they love vacation and I find it so stressful!
Just got back late last night from a trip to Pismo Beach and we are the same in our family. I pack up pretty much everything that is found in the house. My hubby grabs all the outdoor things and loads. For the kids, (we have 3 girls) I tell them what to bring me and I load it all in their bags. So like 5 outfits (5 shorts and 5 short sleeve shirts). They pick what they want, but I check it all off the list and put it in the bags. Lol! 🤣 Not quite ready for them the be totally on their own. I am not too bad a getting things loaded, but my hubby is better. 😜
So true: my husband literally says we will figure it out or buy it when we get there- while i bring everything we need. U NAME IT I BROUGHT IT. And then hes like "wow hunny you are the best wife, i cant believe you brought that" ... Lol 👍💕
Just back from Crazy Yosemite Trip with bringing up 5 Kayaks, 5 Bikes and a dog. Another trip camping planned for Huntington Lake over the 4th holiday, Kids go to camp, One kid has summer program locally, Then in Mid July we all go for a week to Florida for a week-long beach trip. And a last trip to Toulumne Meadows in Yosemite after Labor Day camp. Not quite as much as last year but still trying to keep it up. Thanks for all your fun videos
We got back from vacation yesterday; we visited my best friend and her family that moved four hours away. I made a list for myself and my two kiddos (4 and 2), but I let my husband pack for himself. However, he does help me plan and double checks my list so that we don't forget something. And I feel like it is common for a lot of men (and probably some women) to play Tetris with the bags in the car. My dad, my husband, my brother, and my father-in-law do this. I really appreciate that they can, because I struggle to do it myself. This was pretty great.
Headed to Atlanta to see Kiss this summer. But next fall headed to Disney and Orlando for 2 weeks. My husband will get ready the night before. Me on the other hand..I have my binder ready to go for when we make our deposit in a few weeks. From there I will have a ton of lists. I already have a happy planner planner just for Disney. I will start my shopping for the trip at that point. About 6 weeks from take off my bags will be tentatively packed. Once a week I will pack and unpack it just to make sure I have it. Im.looking at a pile of fabric for mouse ears and will no doubt have a suitcase just for ears. There are wars not as stragicly planned as well as my vacations.
This video was a great insight into our vacation prep as well, especially me doing the car packing. We used to drive from Wisconsin to the Florida coast every week over Easter. And my wife insisted on bringing ALL the Easter stuff. The baskets, the stuffed bunny rabbits, and tons of decorations for the holiday. That was always MY "new high score".
This actually really pisses me off, I do everything while he sits around and does nothing. We actually don’t go on vacation anymore because he won’t help me. And doesn’t even know how
Right?! Like why didn't his parents ever teach him how to help?? And now that he is a grown man, why doesn't he realize that we aren't here to baby him.
My husband and I are driving to Colorado in a week to see family; I’ve already started doing laundry, picking travel snacks, and mentally weighing which soaps pack easiest. My husband will throw things in a bag the night before. 😂 BUT, before every road trip, he makes sure the tires have air and the oil is changed. 🥰🥰
Me in this coming August and September....minus the children. Just me and the Honey. Him fussing I pack too much but realizing we use EVERYTHING by the time the trip is over. At which point he thanks me for being so prepared. 🤣
Make sure the trash has been taken out of all rooms/bathrooms/kitchen after you clean the perishables out of the fridge (trips longer than 5 days). Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, living room. ALL LAUNDRY DONE, to include fresh bedsheets on the beds. Vacuum all carpeted areas. Mop or wet swiffer all floored areas. Turn HVAC up to 78F. Be sure that the toaster and any other appliances that you don’t have to reset or are easy to unplug are unplugged. Back door and all windows locked. Mail stopped. Credit cards/bank notified that you will be traveling. Snacks, activities for car ride, and each person has their own pillow and small blanket. Small amount of cash and change for vending machines, tolls, etc. I could write a book! 😆❤️ This is all if you are traveling with potty trained people. 😅
I'm like a mixture of this...like my parents taught me how to utilize the space in my suitcases and duffels, but I bring books. As for any travel plans, none unless you count the location in the books I read.
I am EXACTLY like Kim, but with lists for the whole family to pack. Then I check the kids suitcases. The one time I didn't check my 16 yr old son's bag, he only had 1 pair of socks and he was wearing them. He was on a church trip for 4 days and I wasn't there. I pack everything! and turn off the lights, set the alarm and the temp etc. My husband packs one bag and gets in the car.
I Tetris everything! I have asked my wife on many occasions "Have you never played Tetris?!" She loads everything like this lady. Which is why almost every time I open a cabinet, or the pantry, or the fridge, half of it falls out. ERRRR.... Love ya Babe!
We always use a digital packing list (Microsoft ToDo). You can reuse the same one over and over and just go though the old stuff to select what you'll need this time. We both each put our own stuff on it and then I put most of the family things on it. But after that he actually packs more of that family stuff, because he's done quicker with his own things. At the end he starts the tetris thing and I go over the list one last time to check if we didn't miss anything. Best way to do it and we never have to turn around and almost never miss anything! And if we do we put it on the list already for next time.
I used to do an annual trip where I brought about three times too much stuff with me (because reasons). It involved crossing the Canada/US border. I got stopped a couple times crossing into Canada where they took everything out and did a secondary inspection. Had a really chill border guy. But the look on his face when he kept taking out one more item from the trunk was priceless. Then when it came time to put everything back, he helped re-pack it (as I said, really chill). But he was like, "how do you fit all this stuff in there?". He was rather impressed as it all rapidly disappeared into the trunk. The moral of the story? There's two. Be chill yourself when dealing with customs. And also remember how you packed stuff in the first place. You may need to duplicate it while on the road.
This is seriously my husband and me when getting ready for vacation! When we were first married, I almost had a meltdown when he started to put things in the suitcase before I had everything laid out on the bed! I can relate so much! We usually are doing a late night Walmart run the night before we leave for vacation to get the things that my husband thought that he had but does not! I am hopeless at packing the car too! This is so funny and so true!
My husband is a master Tetris packer. He is also the one making lists and packing everything for everyone and bringing all the backup emergency things. The one time I made a list and packed for everyone for a week long trip to Disney, I didn't pack myself any clothes. Had to spend one day of our trip finding a mall so I could have clothes to wear.
Biggest trip we packed for was a month in Europe a couple years ago. (Family of 6). This summer we are delighted to be headed to 2 family reunions where games are the highest packing priority. 😀
At our house, I make the list of everything we could possibly need (and extra stuff we don't) and make sure we have all of it gathered in time. Hubby packs his own stuff but often needs reminders of what still needs gathered since he works right up until just before we leave for our vacations. Then I work the magic tetris game in the car to fit our stuff, our daughter's, and sometimes things for others we take along. The driving is 100% on hubby. Where he can't make sense of how to fit 85 bags into a trunk, I'm completely directionally challenged. My sister is even better at loading a car than I am. I am honestly surprised by how she manages to fit so much into her car. She had it packed so full one time that she told her oldest daughter she would need to wait until they got home to get a specific item from the back. Daughter decided to call her bluff and go dig for it anyway. As soon as she popped the button for the hatch, the stuff basically exploded out at her. It was a mix of being upset because she had to reload it all in, but laughing so hard she couldn't yell. (And the kid still had to wait till they got home to dig through the bags.)
My dad is literally Pen with the car packing skills! Me, my two siblings, parents and two cousin were all in a car and my dad some how crammed 7 full size suit cases and more little bags in the back of my moms car! It was amazing!
I travel for work a lot so I have things that “live” in my suitcase (house shoes, blow dryer, reusable cup & tea bags, etc). Packing for me isn’t hard but I always tend to overpack for family vacations. I want options and who knows if I’ll need a jacket or swimsuit cover up. I’m the one that plans, organizes, and gets us ready for our vacations. It can be exhausting and sometimes makes me NOT want to go. My husband is happy to just pick up and go wherever without a plan. It drives me crazy! I need to know who, what, where, and when 🤪
1000% exactly right! (Yes, that’s right. One THOUSAND percent) We’re leaving for Disney World tomorrow and this is spot on. Even the bag within the bag in case we need more space!
I think you've had a camera in our house; this is ME and my husband; down to the printed list for dog care; the rooting through of the teen's suitcase to discover lapses, the actual checking of my husband's suitcase (and the questioning of toiletries, etc.) his Wifi question; (and packing of electronics); (you left out meds for everyone); but the hats were spot on! (and the refusal to turn around one block away) ; doing all the wash first, etc. etc. AND he is justifiably proud of packing the car (which I"m not bad at, but he's much better)...I also give him creds for putting out the trash, etc., you missed him packing the last hour; while I've made sure my daughter and I are packed by the day before....otherwise...
We leave for Casey Key, FL on Friday. I made my list of what lists I needed to make last month. I used that list to make the actual lists a couple of weeks ago. I started packing and confirming pet sitters, mail getters and house checkers yesterday. Menu is made, groceries are ordered, trip route is printed in case we lose gps at some point. My husband...uhhhh...still hasn't even mowed the yard. This vid is dead-on accurate except I am also the luggage Tetris master *lol*
Yeah I'm hearing her "2 days to vacation, I need to start my list" and I'm thinking ???? That used to be me but now that list starts more like a month in advance (it's part of the anticipation of the holiday AND it eliminates packing stress)
Looking at the corner of suitcases being packed for the vacay coming up in 2 days... got me and the boys packed. Hubs has a tiny spot to put his clothes in about an hour before we leave for a week long beach stay. Perfect video 😄
I go up to my dad's once a month to help him go thru family "stuff" (a full 70x40 steel building); my hubby packs my car for me when I leave and it's always perfect. Everything fits. When I come home, the doors are practically exploding with the pressure of everything trying to burst out lol He is packing genius, my hubby lol
Happens in our home too. My kids are grown so I don’t have to worry about them anymore, but cleaning, last minute shopping, and taking care of the dogs is all on me.
Literally everything was spot on!!! Getting ready to pack for our vacation next week! I totally do the wash all the laundry before you pack and my husband is the Tetris king too! He definitely packs at the very last minute if I haven’t packed it for him already and yes I pack all my kids bags as well. Lists are a must! He is the one though that makes sure everything is locked, unplugged etc!
I am Penn with the Tetris packing! I will also do the packing for me and kids. Hubby will be packing either night before or about five minutes before we leave
They have Target in Florida, Kim. Also dollar stores. Laudromats so take half the clothes and also do laundry before you start back home. They sell sunglasses too. Leave all the lotions and stuff at home and make a quick run once you get there. Contacts are a bigger problem, Penn.
It is of legend! Even to our friends, my wife calls me the Tetris King. After 43+ years of watching me pack everything from U-Hauls down to compact cars, she still marvels @ my ability to find the perfect corner for every bag we're taking on the trip. Yes, I still remember that my dress shoes are back home in the closet 3 highway interchanges later.
TOTALLY OUR HOUSE! I started a list a week ago. I'll be packing for 3 days, into the wee hours the night before, and running like a chicken with my head cut off the morning of departure. Then I'll sleep the entire three hour drive to North Topsail, NC.
Haha. This was us last week! We went to Philadelphia & hershey. I backed everybody's suitcase, but my daughters and husband's. I do the planning and preparing, and he just packs his own suitcase and loads up the car.
Im like my mom. When im packing for an vacation for example im literally ready for a 10 year zombie apocalypse and everything fits in a middle size case
I make the lists, shop before, and pack EVERYTHING. Kids/cars/dogs/husband and kitchen, lol. I order groceries delivery, for when we get there (I give myself that gift). Honestly, I drive most of the time too. Control freak, party of 1. Side note, I have it down to a science by now. That's because we've gone to the same place for the last 18 years, lol, and it's my dad's place, so we CAN, leave some stuff there... But that would be too easy, we bring more.
My husband and I are FINALLY going on our honeymoon (thank you, Covid). We leave tomorrow morning. I’ve literally been planning for this trip since 2019; I had to get my best friend to trick my husband into packing this evening. 🥴
I’m pretty sure you’ve been looking in my house because this is how we packed for years and years. The reason my husband is able to pack so well last minute as I’ve prepared everything as Kim has! Laundry is done, mail is held, all other details are taken care of! And yes my husband is also a great packing ninja in the van!
When my wife Kathie and I go on a trip, Kathie's purse can magically turn into a pantry and a medicine chest. Her purse is 12" by 16". I,on the other hand, pack our vehicle in a way were I can reach anything needed during the trip, and many things that may or may not be needed. Kathie: why do have to bring a cooler with ice? Me: to store food and drinks. Kathie: what's in there? Me: Well, ice. 5 PB&J's for grandson. Several juice pouches, a few sandwiches for us, your favorite ice tea for You, and My personal beverage of choice.
Working on the packing right now! Only difference is that I pack the car, too. My husband doesn't do well in that department. On the plus side... he's finally realizing how much is involved with packing for our family, and he's starting to help.
The thing that struck me was the Kim was taking care of the dog, the lawn, the mail, everything. Why is this this so true? Of course she is asleep as soon as the car takes off. I feel ya Kim! Bet your filling out all the camp forms too!
You forgot to mention making sure the fridge is clean of anything that could become a science experiment in your absence.
Yes! And throw out that trash, because when you turn the ac off while you're on vacation....
Oh, and run the dishwasher one last time, AND LEAVE THE DISHWASHER DOOR OPEN AFTERWARDS. Learned that the hard way.
@@user-jy1md7vk1w Leave the washer open, or you get weirdo things growing in there.
And have two weird dinners and lunches including all edible leftovers BEFORE you leave.
We call that "dinner" the night before we leave.
@@ImNotaRussianBot AND turn the water off to the washer!
My husband has started taking the kids out for breakfast the morning of any trip, so I can freak out in peace. Best decision, ever.
This is brilliant because then people can’t mess up your clean house before a trip!
Ohh that’s a good idea!
That’s really smart!! Also nice tradition for the kids.
Oh that's smart
Rotfl
3:09 Kim is concerned about forgetting her sunglasses. Penn may have forgotten the attic light, back door, and contacts. Um, guys, check the back seat...
YOU FORGOT THE KIDS!!!!
Haha thought same thing. Where are the kids??
Good catch 🤣🤣
I’ve done that. But only one and it was leaving a restaurant! His Brothers never thought to tell us as we pulled out of parking lot😮

WHERE'S KEVIN?
"First I've got to do laundry so I can SEE what clothes I have to pack." I feel SEEN.

Yes!
100%!
This is absolutely me
Glad I'm not the only one who does the pre packing laundry . Although in parts of the video I related more to Penn's relaxed way. But I also don't have to pack for a whole family. So (with all my laundry done the day before so everything is available) I usually do the actual packing in the last hour(s) right before leaving
Lol! The clean house before I leave is a must. Even if just for an overnight
I don't want to come home to chaos, even if we are going away overnight, the dishes are done, beds are made clean towels in the bathroom.
Haha absolutely! My husband doesn’t get it😁
Yup...that's me. Hubby is always asking why I have to do all of these before leaving. I said I don't want to come home to a messy house. 😂
100%. we take an extra day off before we leave on vacation to get the house in top shape. I hate coming back to chaos
My husband always asks if I'm cleaning to impress the burglars 🤣

When my son was little and we went out of the house I carried a small backpack, not a purse. It was my Mary Poppins bag and covered snack time, toys, sweaters or jackets, and headache medicine. The same went for vacations. At one point, I even started packing candles and matches, because the year before there was a power outage at the hotel we stayed in. My luggage was the same size as everyone else, I just knew how to pack and make everything fit. The only downfall to being like Kim is that whenever you go anywhere with people, they look to you to have what they need in an emergency.
You’re a survivor! I always joke around with my husband that I’m a true Girl Scout.
So true! My family makes fun if me for over packing but then they are so glad I have the granola bar, band aid, water, hair tie, etc when they need it.

This is so my late husband and I. And he was the master of Tetris. I miss him xoxo
I'm sorry for your loss x
So sorry for your loss. So all that Tetris playing wasn’t for nothing 😂
We are going on two cruises, one to Alaska and the other to the Bahamas. We are going to freeze and then sweat our backsides off. Great plan!
Since you say it was a lesson learned, I assume you made him wear the same clothes all week? Good for you!
It’s rough but it’s good in the end. I’ve gotta do this too.
Hey the boy had priorities
"nobody wants to come back to a dirty house" Ha! Vindicated!! I'm not the only one who does this! Coming back from a vacation with suitcases full of dirty clothes and exhaustion from driving and herding children and seeing all the sites and getting all the things done, you want to come into a clean house throw everything on the floor and go sit down and relax.
My grandmother, mother, and I all cleaned too. My husband waits patiently but we all know he'd rather get going!
Tbh it was so satisfying when Penn packed the car.
So hot 😂
This is freaky accurate for our family!! 🤣
I bought this packing list from Barnes & Noble that I fill out every time we leave town, and it has been a lifesaver. Of course, I’m the only one who uses it, haha!
I'm the organizer, travel agent, booker, concierge, luggage packer and car loader. I do it all and I take it as a personal mission to beat my high score on Tetris for every car trip!
Girl, same.

My grandfather always repacked everyone's car. He knew how to do it.
That is awesome continuous find school is amazing
We’ve been married 40 years, this scenario will never change😂
34 years, same. Except I am the tetris queen. Hubby organizes like everything has covid, six feet of separation, “Honey! Nothing fits.”
I am like,” sit on the boogie boards, put pillows under the seat, suitcases upright for more room, cooler under the basket of groceries, sweater and coats on top to block the glare”. Done.
What about the part where my dad yells at us to hurry up but then he’s the last in the car
Every. Single. Time.
Yes! My dad will come in the car, with the whole family waiting for him, and chide us for being so slow 🤣🤣🤣
OMG THATS MY DAD LMAO
The dad packing thing is spot on! My family is going to the beach on Friday and my dad took the whole day off so he could pack the car and not be rushed.
The last shot where Penn forgot his contacts...you also forgot the kids :-0
🤣
Glad I wasn’t the only one noticing the kids missing in the backseat! 😂🤣 Especially after seeing the kid packing scene.
Maybe they didn't want to be in the video. They don't force them from what i know.
They will be in the next sequel of home alone!
More realistic that you know. My dad once took us swimming without us. We were standing on the porch waiting for him to manoeuvre the car and he just drove off. (He did come back.)
"These are my car sunglasses-I need my beach sunglasses."
All of that is true. The mom in me also packs a secret bag of items that I know my kids will need but they refuse to pack.
Woo hoo! Carolyn for the win!
If you have a mom that isn’t like this, you learn how to pack real quick though. Cuz you have to.
Have a safe trip!
Oh! Hope you guys have an amazing trip. God bless you sister and enjoy your vacations with your fam! And yes, God has a funny sense of humor, so I think your husband has a point right there hahahaha.

Being a Haitian fan of Kim and Penn, it's interesting to read that comment on there...
Lol! 🤣😂
I think t was The Simpsons that started the Tetris packing thing; ruclips.net/video/MXHKKY-Powg/видео.html
I’m a list maker and planner, lists for everything! Clean house with clean sheets on the beds.
So I’m not the only crazy list maker? 😂
Lol I pack like Kim, but I also totally have the Tetris song playing in my head when I load my car.
Same!
Same here!
Oh yeah. I keep thinking I should make one packing list instead of a new one every trip.
I think t was The Simpsons that started the Tetris packing thing; ruclips.net/video/MXHKKY-Powg/видео.html
Our mum always had a full on excel list ready for us to pack our bags with so we wouldn’t forget anything. It was honestly pretty brilliant😅
Children, teens, adults. Lifehack of the year!
I need to do this for my husband 🙄
And if they cant read yet give them a list of pictures (hairbrush, sweater, toys, etc.)
@@kerryhelton8760 yes!
I did this for the last trip. One of them still didn't pack socks.
Don't forget the vid on when you get there and realize you forgot your jeans.
Or when you get home you realize you left shorts/cardigan behind.
My late father held my cardigan hostage until I went back up to visit again :)
Over 1k trip from waaaaay down South to Illinois.
I feel seen. One of my favorite parts of vacation is knowing I’m going to walk back in to a clean house!
Yep, my mom always likes to make sure I pack decent stuff. Very accurate.
When I was old enough to start packing for myself, my mom would give me a list of things to pack. I'm 22 and she still does this for family trips
My daughter is 20 and I still do this for her 🙈🤣😂🤣
I think I was 23 before my mom stopped doing verbal lists to make sure I had everything after packing lol.
@@brendaw2255 don't ever stop. It shows you still care about her 😄
3 kids, almost 2, 5 & 7.
My dad and step mum have a permanent list, they start preparing a few weeks before any holiday trip lol
Literally the same, mum preparing for every ones individual needs and dad doing the final fitting. Maybe it's a typical mum & dad thing😅
Why is Kim the most adorable human ever? That pose at the end highlighted by Penn’s commentary...dying.
This is 100% me and my husband! We used to call him "Tetris Boy" but recently he was promoted to "Tetris Man!" XD
My dad just full on doesn’t bring any chargers and just expects my mom to bring an extra for him
Headed to Atlanta to see Kiss this summer.
Tetris truly is preparation for adulting. "You know what that is, babe? That's a new high score." **high five**
Haha!
My husband just keeps saying "Send me an invite"...so I'm supposed to plan and he shows up
Just vacation without him!
I would even do THAT! And get it washed and detailed inside so it was less stressful to ride in for two weeks!
This is all if you are traveling with potty trained people. 😅
Sounds like a good balance Mom keeps everyone safe and Dad gets the vacation on the road and not just the planning and prep stage
I'm like a mixture of this...like my parents taught me how to utilize the space in my suitcases and duffels, but I bring books. As for any travel plans, none unless you count the location in the books I read.
Loved the credit at the end for the mom packing all the stuff! I pack and My husband loads the car too! He also drives.
Spot on well done
Yep I'm 13 and it's crazy how accurate this is. My parents described perfectly.
Thanks for watching
I keep a bag of bags because you never know
I think you've had a camera in our house; this is ME and my husband; down to the printed list for dog care; the rooting through of the teen's suitcase to discover lapses, the actual checking of my husband's suitcase (and the questioning of toiletries, etc.) his Wifi question; (and packing of electronics); (you left out meds for everyone); but the hats were spot on!
I can relate to ALL of this! Sometimes I just wanna say forget it, let’s just stay home. 😆
Omg it’s Kim is totally me!! We leave for Disneyland in a week and I am packed already. 🤣
Have a great time!
@@theholdernessfamily THANK YOU!! I’ll definitely be wearing my I am doing the best I can T-shirt!!
I love all the "kids" saying their mother made the trip better by helping them pack. Thank you for the vindication!
I go up to my dad's once a month to help him go thru family "stuff" (a full 70x40 steel building); my hubby packs my car for me when I leave and it's always perfect. Everything fits. When I come home, the doors are practically exploding with the pressure of everything trying to burst out lol
He is packing genius, my hubby lol
“First I've got to do laundry so I can SEE what clothes I have to pack." I feel personally attacked -
I usually do laundry right before just in case. To make sure I have all my options clean and ready. And I always pack for a extra day!
Child can pack for himself.....as long as he has a list he does pretty well.
Happens in our home too. My kids are grown so I don’t have to worry about them anymore, but cleaning, last minute shopping, and taking care of the dogs is all on me.
Oooh this is gonna be good! Also, Kim and Penn I didn’t know you two starred in iron man 3!
I literally shrieked and started pointing like a crazy woman when I saw Kim as a reporter!!
@@botabrat1 omg same!
I did not know that
Literally everything was spot on!!!
Yep! I'm the Tetris master too. Husband just doesn't see it.
They have Target in Florida, Kim. Also dollar stores. Laudromats so take half the clothes and also do laundry before you start back home. They sell sunglasses too. Leave all the lotions and stuff at home and make a quick run once you get there. Contacts are a bigger problem, Penn.
When did you come to my house and film my husband and me? This is TOTALLY us.
I’m not a mom, but I’m totally like Kim
TOTALLY OUR HOUSE! I started a list a week ago. I'll be packing for 3 days, into the wee hours the night before, and running like a chicken with my head cut off the morning of departure. Then I'll sleep the entire three hour drive to North Topsail, NC.
This is so our family. My son has forgotten his pants. And yes, that’s my husband vs me packing the car 😂
And yes my husband is also a great packing ninja in the van!

trip, and many things that may or may not be needed.
Kathie: How do put all that between something that fits between your feet?
Sweet Lord. I just realized I’m the “best” of both of you. I’m sitting here horrified at my OCD right now. Lol
Working on the packing right now! Only difference is that I pack the car, too. My husband doesn't do well in that department. On the plus side... he's finally realizing how much is involved with packing for our family, and he's starting to help.
