Got my first 11 praecox rainbowfish this weekend. I hope they thrive in my tank. I can't wait to watch them grow and mature. Thanks for the care video Nick 👍

12 of these arrived at my door this morning for my 55g. Keeping them with platys, corys, otocinclus. I'll add 1 angelfish next week. They're a bit small but still showing some amazing colors.

just got 7 as my first rainbows in a 20g riparium and maybe its because they gone thru 3 years of captive breeding this species or because my tap water is ideal for these fish but i was able to set up my tank while they sat in a bag then added them to the tank right away and they been great, feeding response is amazing, already starting to show some colour and have been very active in the tank i been loving them
and for anyone wondering, i went for an instant cycle taking gravel from a mature tank and a cycled filter with a full bottle of fritz zyme7 plus the riparian plants do a lot of heavy lifting making the tank ready for a small bioload right away

How big (or small) do you think a qt tank for these guys (about 5-6 at a time) should be?

It’s so interesting. You found them to be difficult and here in the states everyone says their hardy and easy

probably due to smaller hobby scene and close to where they wiuld be found in the wild. us is probably tank raised and his are likely wild caught

My praecox eat anything and they are gluttons. I also have furcata rainbows and they are the same. I would imagine they are all different. Thanks for this video!

Yes I swear I got some dwarf neons rainbow teo years ago and only got three they survived so I decided to get three more from the same store and I get them home whatever the disease they had spread withing 48 hrs and killed everybody but one male. There was nothing I could do. I told the fish store they said all sales are final and it's something wrong with my tank. So I laughed and went to get some fish from a chain store just to see and those fish are living fine I've added more fish in the tank and they living. So I got back last week to that store because they're literally the only store in my area or even 45 minutes away that sales them. So i go back and study their fish for two days and would you believe it they had the same thing on them like a white velvet and then their skin was like idk not there some had holes in their stomachs. I pointed it out and how their peacock gudgeons got the same thing that I was about to purchase and they said it must be the place they got it from. So my male has been lonely for 3 months now unfortunately. I'm just waiting to get some companions for him. So yeah I think they can be sensitive and also check your fish before you buy them thoroughly. Oh whatever they had also got to half my fish in my tank they died and half survived. My males still alive.

I made pretty much the same experience, sadly. It is worth watching fish you plan to buy closely for a few minutes indeed. Quarantine ideally too.. although that's allready quite an addition in effort

Hey 2:44 is why I am here! I have 5 of them and 2 of them are like gasping for air at the top. Water parameters are GOOD! I have an air circulation on the tank including my eheim 2217. No other fish is doing that. I have a 75g tank with 20 Neón tetras and 5 Neón rainbow. Is a pretty big tank for them; I don’t know what else to do.
