    //Timelines//
    0: Intro
    0:13 Overview of transportation options to Narita Airport
    The options are...
    -Express Train - Narita Express and Keisei Skyliner
    -Local Bus
    -Bus - LCC and limousine
    -Taxi
    Basically LCC buses are the cheapest way to go, and express trains and limousine are about the same price.
    1:08 Overview of express train
    -Narita Express is great for people staying in south west area including Shinjuku, Shibuya and Tokyo.
    -Keisei Skyliner is great for people staying in north east area including Ueno and Nippori.
    1:29 How to ride the express train
    -From the Airport:
    When you arrive at Narita Airport, go to B1. You will find RED Narita Express ticket booth and machines on the right and BLUE Skyliner ticket booth and machines on the left.
    -To the Airport:
    N'EX - Go to your nearest JR station to buy ticket. You can buy tickets even though express train does not stop at your nearest station.
    Skyliner - Go to Nippori or Ueno to buy tickets.
    2:52 Tips on express train
    Tip 1 - Arrive to the station 15-20 minutes early (on return)
    There is always a long line at the ticket booth and the platform to get on the train might be quite far from the gate so make sure to arrive early.
    Tip 2 - Use ticket machine when in hurry
    Usually you don't need to wait in line for ticket machines to buy a ticket and takes only about 5 minutes. Consider this as an option when you are in hurry.
    Tip 3 - Sit at the front of the car
    Luggage compartment is located at the front and the end of the each car of express train. People get stuck when getting the luggage upon arrivals. It is stressful to worry about if you can get out or not so it's good to sit at the front. (the end is ok too.)
    Note: About tickets
    when you buy tickets by credit card, you will receive 3 tickets - an express train ticket, receipt, and credit card receipt. You need to show only the train ticket to the train attendant.
    CORRECTION: X 4 ticket → ◉ 3 tickets
    (I was with my gf so we had 4 tickets.)
    4:05 Bus
    - LCC (Tokyo Shuttle and Access Narita) can take you to/from Tokyo and Ginza Station.
    - Limousine Bus runs to/from major hotels.
    5:23 How to take the bus
    -Limousine Bus and Tokyo Shuttle - At Narita Airport on the first floor, you can find ticket machines and man booth.
    -Access Narita - All you need to do is go to the train stop and pay on the bus. No reservation needed.

    When I went to Tokyo, I opted for the limousine bus. There are many reasons for that including I knew I would be tired after a long flight from the U.S., I didn't want to drag my luggage through train stations and then to the hotel, I couldn't get lost, and it was just plain easier. You can't go wrong when they leave you off right at your hotel. Once I'm at the hotel, I can rest a bit before exploring Tokyo, getting my bearings, and then figure out the trains and streets. I did love Tokyo, but things are initially confusing.

    One semi-important thing to note for people traveling with 2 big suitcases (because my airline allows 2 bags without extra charges, I'll take advantage of that), Access Narita only allows 1 suitcase per passenger. Limousine bus allows 2 per passenger.

      @@ericcastillo926 On the train if you mean that, you'd be fine. 1 "on-hand" item + 1 big suitcase is okay for every transport option there is from narita -> tokyo. Bus limousine is a good option if you have 2 big suitaces + a backpack. If you only have 1 suitcase, you can do what you wish!

    You're the first blogger, ever, that I've encountered to mention Access Narita. During my first time in Japan (I used Narita Airport), riding the train was kinda intimidating because, well, it was my first time. I didn't know how to buy the ticket and I was worried I might miss my station and stuff. My friend introduced me to Access Narita. It's cheap at 1000Yen and it just takes 1 hour to Tokyo Station. And from Tokyo Station, you can practically go anywhere. You just have to find your way inside, look for elevators in case you have a heavy luggage, and find your platform. Same going back to Narita, check out the departure schedule of Access Narita in Tokyo Station bus stop at Yaesu entrance (also in Ginza and Shinonome).

    • @PaolofromTOKYO
      @PaolofromTOKYO  7 лет назад

      Hey TabascoChipotle, thanks for the feedback. The 1000 Yen bus transportation is a great way to save some money when traveling from Narita. But since I live in Shibuya, it is sometimes more convenient for me just to take the Narita Express straight to Shibuya. It comes down to cost vs time. Really depends on the circumstance. Anyway, hope to talk to you again in another video.

    Or take express on the Keikyu Line, especially traveling towards Shinagawa and Yokohama and it also serves Haneda Airport.

  • @redfish337
    @redfish337 6 лет назад +29

    Regular train doesn't take 2 hours...
    Keisei Line Limited Express is ~75-80 minutes to Ueno, for 1030 yen.
    Airport express is about 60-65 minutes for 1240 yen.
    Skyliner is about 45-50 minutes for 2470 yen.
    So, Keisei Line is in competition with the LCC in terms of price and time. If you would just miss the train, then you take the bus. If you would just miss the bus, then maybe the next train is sooner. Of course there are other factors involved, but not quite sure why you wiped it off the table so fast.
    Also, if your trip is two weeks or less, you can get a roundtrip NEX ticket for 4000 yen. Additionally, the roundtrip NEX ticket has pretty significant through benefits... after you get off the NEX, so long as you don't leave the JR system, you can go as far as Yokohama/Kamakura/Yokosuka, Takao, Okutama, or Omiya on the ticket. I'm never there for 2 weeks or under though.

    OMG I believe I got hustled when I had to transfer between Narita and Haneda airport. I missed the train , my smart phone became a dumb phone because the owner (me 😔) only purchased a sim card for SK and my US one didn't work of course so the communication between me and the natives who worked there was at an all time low . I resulted to drawing then cried using the ATM and I believe I paid about $50.00 for a bus one way, still I had a great time. I also learned two lessons 1. Don't just learn the language, mannerism ,laws and currency to where you're going Learn the basics to where ever you're layover or connecting and 2. Flash cards and a/or pocket dictionary can be very helpful when traveling alone in a foreign land. This video is very Helpful

I especially loved the tips on how to get to Tokyo quickly and affordably. What are some of your favorite local markets or hole-in-the-wall eateries in Tokyo that showcase authentic Japanese flavors?

    Actually the Skyliner is faster and cheaper than N'EX to Shinjuku... get off the Skyliner at Nippori and transfer to the JR Yamanote... saves at least 20 minutes and about 700yen unless your accommodation is quite close to the Shinjuku New South Exit.

    Hi Paolo,
    My husband and I with with our 2 kids will be in transit for 20 hours in Narita Airport end Dec.
    We will be arriving about 4pm and I wish to go for a short visit to Shibuya and come back to Narita before midnite.
    Do you think I should take a taxi to Shibuya instead of train or bus?

    I can’t use my Suica card for the skyliner ? I am assuming I should use the Skyliner… I’m staying in Asakusa. What else can’t I use it for? Shinkansen? Thanks so much for your awesome videos!
