I saw Michael Brecker in 2000 with the Atlanta All Star Band. When he came walking out on stage, my first thought was that he was sick. I played it down to never having seen him in person before. I got to see him with Herbie Hancock in San Antonio for one of his last gigs and he was incredible. I thought to myself that I was wrong about him being unwell. It was and is an honor to have been in the same room as this Giant.
I remember seeing Mike at Carnegie Hall during which time he played the most ridiculously magnificent solo version of Naima. When I met him in his dressing room after the concert, he said, "something's not right." "I feel such pain and weirdness in my back." I said, Michael, "you just played the most gorgeous solo I've ever heard."
My sax teacher introduced me to Mike’s playing in the early 80s. That was it. I never looked back. Started a 40 year love affair with mike’s genius. I always regret not providing my bone marrow. 😞

Remarkable man, Mr. B. One of the giants, in so many ways.

Like Sonny Rollins, Michael Brecker was rarely satisfied with his playing
It’s so important to keep Mike’s name and legacy alive with these kinds of conversations. 👍

I'm totally loving the book and looking forward to Mr. Milkowski's presentation at the UCO Jazz Lab *(Edmond OK) about Michael Brecker on March 3!
He'll be good!
Loved the book. The last chapter is sad though.
Michael having gone that way, a broken life in pain after all the love and brilliance he gifted the world, what tragedy
It is like a Shakespearian tragedy.
Mikey deserved better. Unfair, man. Unfair.
Greatest legacy ever
Hmm pilgrimage ...
