The master Billy Higgins, both a master drummer and a master human being. I was blessed with his presence on my record in 1986. Billy played from a sense of joy.
i remember looking for that CD ...... it is not in Discogs for sale. ... EBAY in USA has one ..... i guess with shipping and tax pretty pricy to germany ..... i will continue looking ...... as i try if i SEE a billy higgins vinyl ... i buy it ... and with CD´s i do the same ...... are there around 1000 higgins records !? ... well well well ... i have perhaps 150 ... long way to go
Billy's album Soweto, is in my lifelong playlist... he's just one of those musicians that work in an honest, humble and passionate manner that it translated to his music.
What a great and a humble man ! No wonder everybody loved Billy Higgins. And how beautifully he spoke of his long-time partner Cedar Walton. After so many years together not many people have a lot of good things to say about each other.
I like Billy's explanation of why he remained "Billy" (and am glad he did). His refutation of pride--of those who take a "more pious than thou" attitude in any religion--is right on. Of all the records he made, the one that stands out for me is "Glass Bead Games." Clifford Jordan reveals his greatness, and Bill Lee (Spike's dad) is so good you wonder if there's a clear-cut genius between father and son. But it's the magic of the whole, sparked by Billy's flame, that's eternal.
Because I love music and great people such as Billy Higgins, who contributed so much to it. And where one choses to live has absolutely nothing to do with it.
the legacy of his kind heart and generous nature has left its footprint on the hearts and minds of people that knew him. but thats not really good writing to say that he left a footprint on anyones heart.. but it just came out like that. i loooove his music!
My great grandfather!! I love you & miss you .
Aloha one of favorite shows ! What aprivilege to see these musicians 💚

Bridgework should have been released on CD long ago. Respect to the great Billy Higgins.
Brother 'Abdullah Kareem (Billy Higgins) used to share his travel stories with me when I was new to Islam as he did here. Raheema'Allah-ameen

This is historical. Thanks for uploading this.
Someone should write Billy´s story, the most versatile drummer in jazz history. His story should be told!!!
Wow, that was beautiful.

Seeing him play in person was like watching an angel or something. Difficult to explain any other way.
He befriended me when I was new to Islam , may Allah have mercy on him-ameen.
Where do i watch the whole thing
That’s all we have. Thank you
ye this is cool but when and where?
does anyone know the lineup, from left to right?
Cool...what year is this from? Must have been shortly before his death.
Must be 1996, he´d just turned 60
He died in 2001.( And the world is poorer for it)
I wish the 65% of muslims watched this man speak and listen to what he says about music! Music isn't HARRAMM!!
