I felt that as a mom. My son was trying to tell me something after work and turned away and said nevermind, your probably not interested...... ouch 🤕
It heals part of my wounded (earthly) fatherless heart every time I see good Godly fathers. I used to envy people with good dads. But now as an adult woman, whose heart is constantly being healed about fatherlessness, I instead find joy in seeing other little girls that will not have to deal with what I dealt with. I pray for you dads. What you're doing is divine and wonderful. Thank you for shining a light on Black Father's being father's.

@@LoveNia_ years of prayer and crying. & I am still working on it. What has helped the most is resting in seeing God as my father. He's there when my earthly father it. He may not be able to hold my hand, but He shows up to every event, He encourages me through His word, He is what I really need as a Father etc. & now that I am older, and married, a lot of the things I wanted a father around for are over, and that helps. I have allowed mentors and friends fills that gap as well.

Pursuing your father as his child hit me hard, because of the relationship I have w my father. For his birthday I gave him a gift, but he was nonchalant about it, and I think he feels like he doesn't deserve gifts in a way bc he probably doesn't think he's stepping up to the plate as he should. This Father's day, I wasn't gonna get him anything bc he would have respectfully brushed it off, but after watching Beleaf talk about the importance of pursuing your father, made me realize that even in his lack, I have to show my daddy he's appreciated and loved

This is such a brilliant conversation. Lost my dad at 18, and I will always remember him for the freedom he gave us in approaching him, in speaking up, in being the most authentic versions of ourselves. It's quite a rare thing to find in the Ghanaian community- the permission to be as frank as possible, especially in speech. And I'm glad my father gave me that gift. Great and very insightful video! Happy Father's Day!!
Tryphena Yeboah agree. My father passed away when I was two/three years of age and my mother didn’t remarry. I know that there are good black men/great black fathers, but at times if you don’t see greatness-that is already there- in front of you , there might be a chance to start thinking all of the great fathers are taken or just not. But this is refreshing to see - love love this!!!

My father is a narcissistic alcoholic and abusive to us growing up. He was always angry around us, always blowing up, beat us, didnt protect us, made us feel like dirt on the bottom of a shoes. The way that God has fathered me, I'm so grateful. He has placed something in my heart for helping all children but especially in environments like I was in. Maybe if i wouldve grown up differently, I wouldn't be open to realizing what this country's youth really truly needs..people who motivate, people who guide instead of control, people who dont give up and trust, and people who love and respect them as a person and not as less. My relationship with my father was stressful and exhausting and hurtful, today it's still very distant, however my Lord, in return, is leading me into something greater. If you've read this far, I appreciate that a lot! Its definitely always on my mind.

Black positive fathers - "We do exist!" As a young father to two beautiful black boys, I want to say thank you brothers for sharing your experiences. It's not common for North American culture to see many positive representations of the black family. May the power of Christ continue to manifest in your lives and ministries 🙏🏿
It's a reason for that it's because the dominant culture are promoting themselves it's not up to them to promote us it's up to us to do so

As a single mother of 3 daughters, how can I help my daughters understand that God is their Father and not to be bitter their earthly dads, so they can live a wholesome life with God?
Teach them, while they are young. Or it’s game over, if you want to teach them of god, get a Bible and read it with them. If they are into two culture or around dysfunction it’s over.
THIS was so beautiful to see. The park scene, the constant natural interaction with their children. Wow, just heart warming, inspiring and real.

As I first time black father at 31 going on 32. This helped a lot. I'm having my first child in January 2022. And there's so much I want to learn. I just subscribed.

When my daughter was born, I became the most vulnerable man alive. I dreamed of her before her birth although I could never see her face. But I couldn’t wait for her to arrive. When she did it exposed me. I could not bear the thought of anything happening to her because I had never loved or knew I could love that much, that deep, that intentional I immediately knew God forbid if something ever happened to her I would not survive it. Understanding that I was able to be conscious and deliberate in every moment possible. I did everything for her cooking, nurturing her in sickness and minor injuries, I bought her clothes and dressed her, I paid such close attention to her I understood her eating habits and the texture of food she liked, I knew more Disney, nicolodian, show tunes than I care to admit. It was a much needed experience for me. Before her I was considered a very abrasive personality type. People often commented on how contrary I’d become. It filled voids I had in my childhood. It made me empathetic to my parents. She’s 20 now and we’ve both grown up to be genuinely good decent people. I encourage all black fathers to immerse yourself into fatherhood. It’s therapeutic.

I grieve everyday that my husband has the blessing of a family, but doesn’t know what he wants in life. Doesn’t commit to anything. He’s like a wave of the ocean like the bible says 😔 I have an amazing God fearing father myself and i feel so guilty that in a sense i’ve robbed my children of being able to give them the same kind of father, by choosing who i did.
Isamara Ruedas I have been through a lot with my husband he’s often gone working and is just not as present as he used to be. Although things are still shifting I have found that prayer, consistent, daily prayer has changed things for the better. Pray that God would visit your husband in dreams and visions, and give your husband purpose and vision for his life. Pray that God would strengthen your husband, that your husband will take his place as head of the house even as Christ is head of the church, be encouraged.
A praying wife can change things! Pray to God about your sorrows and what you want to change and when you can pray anymore... Pray some more
I have 6 uncles on my mother's side, each with three kids minimum. There are twins in my family, so the growth gets exponetial fast.
This has inspired me to actually ask them if they experience fatherhood like this. This is beautiful.
Saw my pop once, but never again after that. It's sad, but I feel blessed to see you men expressing yourselves so openly. Very encouraging to this soon to be black father. THank you so much.
I pray that God would allow me to be found by a man like these men so my children have have a father like them .

I couldn’t get away from my father as a child
I was in his hip 24/7 he was the LOVE OF MY LIFE ,he made me feel wanted and loved
He ever yelled at me and he was very affectionate towards me I always felt safe around him ❤️ I pray our relationship gets better because it’s not the same now that I’m an adult

AMAZING! Something happened to me as well with my friend a week right before our graduation in college. I give God the glory for wisdom because I don't take credit from it. Basically, our graduation was nearing in May.. I asked my friend who was going to her graduation. She mentioned how she wasn't going to invite her father because.. it's because she lives with her mom and brother and her father lives in a different city in California because her parents divorced when she was young. She said she did not want to invite her father because he was against the idea of her pursuing college. I thought "hmm that's odd" and asked for the reason.. she didn't know.. but I said "maybe there's just ego or insecurity involved.. maybe your father never reached college". I said, "Yo DEE!! You should still try to invite your dad because this is an important time in your life and is a great accomplishment"! I was so hyped too. She kept saying "Hmm no I don't think so. He was against it this whole time". I said "yea, but I bet you deep inside your father would go and he would actually be proud of you". I forgot how I finally convinced her but I think I kept saying how "Dee, just try and do it" I was thinking of her not having the mistake of regret as graduating is a cool moment in life. So my friend said: "Okay I get what you're saying, but I still wouldn't invite him to the venue since it can cause' hostility in the family for such an important event. I'll just tell him im graduating and I'll invite him to watch our live stream podcast". So our school had a livestream broadcast of the graduation which is posted in our school website. So yea, I just had this feeling and confidence to encourage my friend ... maybe because I could relate with her growing up in a broken family, having a stepdad.. not being in good relationship with my stepdad but then appreciating him later in life and what he's done for the family.. and my stepdad passed in 2017.. so I wanted to encourage her how maybe.. just maybe.. her dad was not supportive of her path to college.. maybe there's insecurity or whatever.. but I bet deep inside he would be proud of his daughter.. I felt I was figuring it out cuz I can always figure out movie plots too even before the ending or climax happens lol... SO YEA. The night after our college graduation.. my friend texted our group chat along with our close friends. Her dad ended up sending her a picture of the live stream of my friend being on stage during her graduation. He did ended up watching it and saw her walk up the stage and took a pic of it from his computer. MAN, she was so amazed and I was also so amazed how my advice was right! amazing haha. It was deep! haha. Hope it works out for you also! sorry for this huge message or testimony!
My father wasn’t there growing up. He had me and just left my mom to hang. When we lived in the same state and when I would go visit family every summer he would never come see me. Part of me question why he wasn’t there and another part is at peace. Now as a husband and father I’m challenged because I didn’t see or have a example. I have a 1 year old daughter who I’m trying to raise as I would’ve wanted and trying to express love to a woman when I only had half shown to me. I wouldn’t trade it for nothing though. Keep me in prayers

I’m 30 and have never felt unsafe to share anything with my father who never had a father. It’s a safe place, he’s my favorite person (besides mom) and man ever. Because of him, I will never settle? How? Best daddy in the whole wide world!

This is encouraging as a young man who because of many poor decisions before following Christ has subconsciously doubted any possibility that I could be a good father and good husband long time. I thank God for redemption and allowing us to grow despite even current challenges. Much love

Yeah, the sonship part hit home as well. I appreciate that. I’m not even a father. I’ve always been open to my dad. He knows I don’t hate him and never did. Parents never married. Dad left us(lil bro 3 yrs younger) when I was 5/6. Was never bitter but I did feel the consequences of his absence. I’ve always been open to relationship, but expected him to pursue me because one, he is my dad, and two, I see no benefit to relationship with him accept for modeling Christ. By God’s Grace I learned to be a man(I’ll be 30 Sunday) and have done well in life. So in that aspect I’ve felt that I’m good. But the sonship part is dope! Very practical.
I learned that being better than my Dad is not a good standard. He never set the bar high anyway. It doesn’t take much to be better than him. It’s easy to dunk when the hoop ain’t regulation lol... And typically we become what we’re fixed on. I knew to look outside of him in becoming a man. In preparation for what it may one day mean to be a Father. For me that standard is Jesus. But I also pulled from other men/Dads in my community. Leadership books(Cuz I see a lot of parallel to parenting in them), articles, luncheons, conferences, conversations etc... I’d even add counseling and regular self reflection.

Shout outs to you and your wives building Godly homes! ❤❤❤❤ I didn't have a good relationship with my Father growing up, and it wasn't until I was older, and was saved that God had me pursue my father, so He can restore our relationship. It took a lot of tears, letting go of the past and unforgiveness for me, to be where we are at today. When little girls are void of there Father's love, it opens to door for low self esteem, rejection, and constantly seeking validation from others..but more importantly it makes it hard for them to connect or relate to our Heavenly Father. It's only by God's grace that my relationship with my father is being restored today.
Loved this my parents were divorced too. My father wasnt there too much for us as teens but hes back in my life now. We all mess up we are all fallen but he is still is my dad no matter what. We all strive to do better but we should strive to show our kids who we really are. Not better than the next guy or your father. We are all different and unique

I'm not here to spread hate or anything of that nature. Wrestle with what you have to deal with without spreading anything racist sir. I will pray for you to heal whatever demons you have inside. Just look at a Negros to any other race, the mere fact that Negros still exist after what your race did to them for over 400 years on the side of the earth alone is testament to that fact. Honor your father. I wish i would have told my dad he was a good dad before he died. I just criticized him and pointed out his faults, he was dying and i didnt even know it. Honor your parents, no matter how you feel. I miss him more everyday.
So on point by saying a father needs to learn to be a son to truly be a father
This was great to see how well your children play with each other with out fighting. It says what kind of dads you are
I grew up in a two parents household for a good bit of my childhood, sorta. My dad travelled a lot and like Ezekiel, when my dad would come home, I would cling to his feet. Honestly we would have minimal interactions and very rarely were they meaningful but I still remember thinking he was the best dad ever. My parents divorced down the line and as I got older, I realized how physically scarce my dad had been all my life. (He was always present financially, it took a while but Ive grown to be grateful for that).
I remember wanting his attention so bad and not getting it. At a young age, I adopted the belief that quality time was a sort of currency and you needed to be valuable enough for people to spend it on you. This really messed me up and I spent majority of my life believing that it was my lack of worthiness that made my dad not want to father me. Glory to God, after coming to Christ and with much work by the Holy Spirit, my mind is being renewed. Ive realized my dad gave what he could. It had nothing to do with my worthiness. My granddad passed when my dad was merely a teenager and my dad was never taught how to parent. It's one of those things yknow. I've forgiven him and I'm still healing through the kinks that came from a lack of his involvement in my life. I'm learning to love and pursue him like Beleaf mentioned. I won't lie, it is a painful process of unlearning and relearning. I see how a lack of my fathers presence has played a role in every aspect of my life. There are so many things I struggle with because I didn't have him affirm my identity. BUT GOD is working endlessly to restore me. My Heavenly Father is doing a new thing. I thank God my earthly father's mistakes weren't the final verdict on my life. I pray for others like myself. That we receive the love of the one true Father and allow that to be our story.

I love this so much. We are so in need of a community and conversations that challenge the Christ in us. Beleaf really got me with that idea of sonship, even as a daughter. Ezekiel is right though, culture plays such a huge role in the way some fathers know how, or don't know how to be there for their kids. So true.
We want more of these convos!! My father recently got out of prison and I'm trying to figure out in what way he fits in my life. I was 15 and am turning 25 this month. He wants more contact but not sure of what boundaries to uphold. Been praying about how I should go about it and how much I should let him in based on our past situations. I want to walk in forgiveness but also be wise.
But i am so happy that God has raised such awesome men of God who are willing to just share that they aren't perfect but are trying to be intentional with raising their children and loving their wives while honoring God and griwing as individuals. My dad was awesome and my husband is awesome. My husband should definitely be on here with you. He feels so alone when it comes to being a great father. His father wasn't there but he is the epitome of caring, living and the kids run to his legs and jump on him when he comes home everyday. He has a great story. Can't wait to show him this video.
Thank you brothers for this platform. I definitely needed to hear this. As a black father myself, this reminds me that time with your kids is extremely important. To pay attention to the little things that even our kids point out to us. My relationship with my dad wasn't the best either, but now I understand the importance of having a relationship with your dad even when you're a father helps you see perspectives differently that you didn't know when you were a child. Hi.... I enjoyed the discussion.... Recently I sat down and wrote everything I like about my dads character and some of the moments with my father that have been most influential in my life, what I found was that it was the small things like him coming home to cook after work when my mom was still at work, him getting up EVERY SINGLE DAY ( except weekends) and going to work so that I could eat and have a roof over my head... looking back as a young adult those “small” things were so monumental and they still are I needed my dad to just be there and I’m so thankful for all that he has done for me and my family.... I also just want to say Happy Father’s Day to all the imperfect but still perfect fathers 🙏🏽

It's so interesting bc I know, for me, my dad was more so the one I could trust to express my emotions and not feel like I was just being extra or pushed to the side. And this is coming from a Caribbean household. He drew from how his father was a provider yet often lacked communication beyond that, and he decided to be more intentional with his kids. Even with family issues over the years, I'm grateful for the example my dad set for me to build from. I have a standard to not let men call me out of my name or make me feel uncomfortable about who I am bc of my dad. Black fathers are truly important and needed, and I'm proud of you guys and know that God has blessed y'all with beautiful families that reflect Himself ❤

This was freshing to hear. Thank God there is hope of Great Christian Fathers. I think YOU may need to do a series as alot of men DON'T KNOW HOW much or CHOOSE NOT to be effective Fathers for their children.
This is my 1st father's day weekend without my father who died recently. His example of being a godly man that taught me to study the word of God , pray and use godly wisdom will be the legacy that lives on in me.
So Fathers be aware of the legacy you leave your children which is determined more by what you do, your actions more than your words.
