Where do you rank Moses among the greatest Centers of All Time? NOTE: One huge thing I forgot to mention in the video… Moses wasn’t just a beast on the boards, but more specifically the OFFENSIVE boards, which are the harder ones to get. There are 8 players in NBA history with over 4,000 Offensive Rebounds. Robert Parish is 2nd All-Time with 4,598…. Moses has 6,731. That also doesn’t include his ABA years... Its laughable how much he dominates EVERYONE else in that area.
Glad I found this! Moses was only here in Philly for a short stint but he still is in the top 5 centers I've ever seen play (I go back to the late 70s in terms of when I started watching the NBA) and will always be thought of as a Sixers great. He was ferocious, tenacious, and crafty on top having some really dominant physical skills. The Sixers got him to overcome the Lakers, and he literally outplayed Kareem (arguably the GOAT) and won series MVP.
Moses Malone was a three time NBA MVP and won a championship with the Sixers in 1983. He was the Finals MVP. Definitely one of the best centers and rebounders in NBA history.
Something I didn't know until fairly recently was that the '81 Rockets had a 40-42 record. This means Moses led the first (and only) squad with a losing record to the Finals since the '59 Lakers. Why is this man not talked about more?
In 1983, all of my high school buddies were big fans of the Dr. J, Moses Malone and the Sixers. So glad you highlighted Moses Malone. He deserves to be remembered and honored.
Criminally underrated top 5 Center of all time. His moves were astonishing in the paint and is still one of the top three rebounders of all time. Moses Malone rest in peace.
@Merican Modi come on, give me your top 5 centers of all time in the NBA. Don't just say wrong and not give your opinion of the top five. That's just being a bitch.
@Merican Modi Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Shaquille O'Neal, Moses Malone and Hakeem Olajuwon and there's a lot of centers that could be tied in that fifth position. I know you won't reply but I would love to know why you don't think Moses belongs in the top five. The truth is, you're just a punk who doesn't know basketball.
@Merican Modi yeah, okay. He had a damn good career and is considered in the top 5 best all-time no matter how you look at it. You're a moron that's what it comes down to.
On the money. I watched Mose Malone play on TV as a teen, and what I remember of him is exactly how great of a player that this video shows. Mose was one of those rare great talented centers that didn't take a back seat to Kareem--and proved to be more than Jabbar's equal--in my opinion. Smart, agile and quick; a shooting guard in a 6'10" frame. A living nightmare to opposing centers throughout the league. Magnificence is his name.
Moses was once asked by a reporter about his offense rebounding prowess, his response,” If ya ain’t got the ball, you can’t shoot”. Four out of five starters from his 83 Sixers team are in the Hall of Fame, Best team ever.
Moses Malone is the most underrated player of all time for sure, glad you're shedding light on his numbers and accomplishments. He definitely is among the best big men ever
Olajuwon is my favorite player of all time, but he may never have become the player he became without Malones offseason tutorials/workouts when he was in college as a Cougar where he saw limited minutes his first year. He really didnt have to do that. Much respect.....r.i.p. Moses. One of the best to ever do it.
Count him mentoring Barkley too in Philadelphia!! Moses has a great rep in the people that came up on the pavement as opposed to this AAU era, because we understand people taking you under their wing and learning how not to be outworked or let anyone be mentally tougher than you. That was definitely Moses Malone’s legacy. He was about it in the paint!!
I got to be an honorary ballboy at a Spurs-Bullets game in the 80s and my seat was inside the basket support cage on the actual floor a few feet in front of the courtside seats. And oh my God, watching Moses Malone and Frank Brickowski just beating the hell out of each other at the rim that game from five feet away was insane. As physical as 1980s basketball looked on TV, it looked wholly different and so much more intense from that close. Moses must have been such a bastard to play against. I can't imagine trying to move that guy. Getting to watch Moses and Bernard King from that close is one of my greatest basketball memories.
I'm Philly born and raised and we will always consider him a 76er! He was our MOSES who led us to the promised land...our 83 NBA Championship and his legendary FO FO FO comment about the post season. Thanks for remembering him in a very accurate video about his awesome career that is sometimes overlooked. Fantastic top 5 center! RIP MOSES!
He hit his peak as a 76er, surrounded by phenomenal talent in Dr. J, Toney, Cheeks, etc. I consider Mr. Malone to be the single-most under-rated player in Pro history.
Moses was definitely a top five center and top 15 player. No one could hit the offensive boards like him! He was the biggest reason the Sixers won the title in 83.
Many remember him only for his offensive rebounding, but his overall game was amazing. His post game was phenomenal, he had a smooth mid-range J, and he was a tough defender. Sure, his defensive stats weren't eye-popping, but many centers from that era would tell you how good a defender he was. His best trait, though, was his durability. Few centers can play that long and still be productive.
He was amazing. Basketball people know that there is nothing more impactful in a game then offensive rebounding. That alone controls the whole dynamic of a game. And Moses was so much better the anyone else at it that It's almost unreal
Moses was relentless and persistent rebounder. Probably the best rebounder of all time. Not because of numbers but because of his heart just to get the ball. He would fight everybody just to the rebound.
Rebounding is not entertaining. Barkley and Rodman were entertainers and you’re just being nice to Malone because we’re watching this vid on the legend. Edit: Offensive rebounding is entertaining and those three were the best at it so I see what you were saying.
@@19brittani I wouldn't exactly call Rodman one-dimensional, who can guard 1-5 on the floor, an occasional scorer during his days in Detroit, and an underrated facilitator when being in that Bulls Triangle with MJ and Pippen. He averaged 25 and 15 at SE Oklahoma U in three years, which goes to show he was a capable scorer of the ball, but was never his main focus as a pro. But, of course, he wasn't the player Moses Malone was.
Rodman was put on a prime Shaq for 1/2 game and held "the most dominant player ever"to 0 points. Rodman studied every player's ball rotation for Offensive and Defensive boards before the game to determine his best rebounding position. Jordan and the Bulls had trouble getting past the Pistons with Rodman on it, so they picked him up. Rodman created Offense by his Defense. I would of loved to see him go head to head against Chamberlain, Russell and Kareem to see how he would defend them. He was one of the fastest & quickest players in the league had more endurance than any player, could guard any position and won multiple Championships on different teams. Like Bill Russell, Rodman fit in where he was needed most to make the Team better and to win, not just to boost his own scoring stats. He could score as well if that was what was needed. Moses Malone was incredible too
Quick fun fact. From 79-87, that’s 8 str8 seasons, Moses went 25 and 14. Only Jabbar(69-77 Jabbar went 30 and 15) and Chamberlain(59-67 went 37 and 24) can say they’ve done that. Nobody else can truthfully say they did that for that stretch of time after Moses did it.
I appreciate younger guys who do their research and commit to understanding the players and the game before their time, and to then take that knowledge and understanding to put it all in perspective. You can have a serious conversation as an actual student of the game with the old heads and not just talking Curry and LeBron like the casuals. Good job Jonny.
Moses was a beast--perhaps the most underrated NBA player ever? Especially excelled at one of the toughest and most important aspects of post play--offensive rebounding. He was a post player's post player, and anyone with a deep knowledge of rebounding holds him in awe.
@@jaydavisjr4505 Yeah, that shows he wasn't overlooked during his career. But years later, people don't discuss him among the great centers, and they should. I think him frequently changing teams might have a lot to do with that, like the video mentioned. Players often remain in "all time great" discussions because of passionate fan bases, and no one fan base can really claim Moses.
I was fortunate enough to see him play a game in High School. He AVERAGED 40/20. Tall kids now average 18 and think they are ready for the NBA. It's unreal how good he was and became over his career- definitely overlooked and underappreciated in the history of the game. RIP Moses.
Moses Malone was a Beast (RIP). I have him in my top 3. Kareem. Moses Malone. Olujuwan. When you win 2 MVP awards for two different teams, you're a great. An All-time great
The Chairman of the Board definitely belongs on the list with the great centers. His accomplishments can still be seen in Olajuwan, Kobe, D. Howard, LeBron and other big men. I'm thankful I got a chance to watch him play.
In the annals of the NBA Centers, it is very tough to gauge them I mean who's better Russell or Chamberlain? then their's Malone, da Dream, O'Neal, Duncan, and Kareem, not in that order, we would be in a 10-hour discussion and you could make a damn good argument for all of them. Malone was a machine on the boards and Mr. FO, FO, FO was a monster on the offensive glass, had he gone to Maryland out of HS the Terps would have dominated college basketball. He was never offensively challenged as he made himself a force at both ends of the court. Two tragedy's I'll always remember is the death of Malone and Wilt. One died after a visit to the dentist, the other in a hotel room before a charity golf tournament.
I remember the day Moses died. His name flashed over the screen in the red lettering they use for monumental notifications. He died way too early. Sadly, I feel eventhat contributes to his being unknown. Other legends like Russell and Kareem lived to be very old.
Chairman of the boards!!! Luv it ! Wilt averaged nearly DOUBLE his boards... for his career! A different era , i know , just had to throw that in there, lol. And , to be fair , .... Ive ALWAYS loved Moses. HARDEST working center of all time !
As a Sixers fan, Moses is THE reason we won the title in ‘83. He has long arms so he was a monster on the boards. Moses is underrated simply because his career started in the 70’s and the media doesn’t care about the NBA until Bird/Magic came in 1979-80. It’s the same with the NFL as the media doesn’t care about anything before the Pre-Suberbowl Era as they don’t even count Championships only Superbowls. Vince Lombardi has 5 titles, but many fans wouldn’t know that cause the media only mentions he won Super Bowl 1 and 2. Moses and Kareem are forgotten when the media mentions the greatest Centers, so naturally younger generations will never know the true story. Only Baseball recognizes the WHOLE history as most young fans atleast know about Ruth, Cobb and Willie Mays. Oh yeah, Moses had the greatest prediction, “Fo, Fo, Fo!”
I agree. I remember the Sixers the year before. They couldn’t get over the hump. Like Pete Rose coming to the Phillies, he pushed them over the top. Loved watching Moses play.

Moses is a top 5 center. That 83 Sixers team is one of the greatest ever. Especially defensively. 3 of the 5 spots on the All-NBA defensive 1st team...were sixers.
@@jaysenbustamante9926 Yup. Plus, Chicago didn't beat no team that's on par when it comes the Kareem/Magic-led Lakeshow, who got swept in the process. The Bulls would have all kinds of problems with that Philly squad, and don't see Rodman besting Big Mo on the glass.
Malone would wear out opposing big men with his relentless offensive rebounding, put them in foul trouble. That’s gold in 4th quarter crunch time and Hakeem, Parrish, Kareem, etc. are exhausted or forced to let up on physical play in the last 5 minutes, just when their teams need them the most. That intangible made Malone a truly valuable player for the teams he played for.

Beast.
Moses was amazing!
The man did this in Air Force 1's. Let that sink in lol
Best all around center to play the game big moe
Hey man, great vídeo. Could you do a World B. Free one. I feel like we don't give not even close the respect that man deserves. Thank you.
