See? An open communication between two different “types” of people can be met halfway by trying to understand each other more, rather than think it’s always “hate” when most of the time - it is genuine curiosity & wanting to understand.
Yes, communication and compassion are key to understanding each other :)
They happen much more often in the outside that it will ever do on the internet.
👍Yes
And no one is screaming ❤
Agree. Just explain, not everyone is out there to get you.❤️
The “oh” after realizing the questions come from a place of genuine curiosity and not hate 😌

I love that. I can't blame her for being on the offensive. Lgbtq people have to keep their guard up when ppl ask questions. As soon as she saw he was being genuinely curious she used it as a teachable moment to be relatable. Feeling "like home" is a feeling almost everyone can relate to and want to feel themselves.
Same 😂😂😂😂
I thought the shopkeeper was gonna get beat up 😂
Me too! 😂😂😂😂
Something about that "oh.. uhm. I dont know," felt so genuine and wholesome. Love is the answer!
All of this is so great
You be surprised how a calm response to a question that may seem 'hostile' can actually be a genuine question that can turn into a fantastic friendship.
Exactly! A friend of mine is asexual and I had never met one before so I was very curious and asked far too many personal questions. We ended up becoming pretty close friends
@Devestatix I have a trans friend that thought I didn't like the LGBTQ community for some reason (something about the way I carry myself). After being around me for some time, I can say that were good friends.
@@dajex16 Ugh, I don't like people that are like your friend. Judging others of terrible things for something as silly as "the way they carry themselves".
It might've turned out alright in the end for you, but they probably judge and are hostile to other people because of this screwed up perspective. It's horrendously toxic.
@A--Fan @A--Fan Honestly, I'm used to it lmao. Growing up, I remember the discrimination of being 'the replaceable dishwasher' (it wasn't a 'cool trait' to be hispanic before 2008). Not sure what kind of miscommunication there is between people like myself and LGBTQ community is, but wish that some would put themselves in the others shoes sometimes rather than feel like the world revolves around them. Regardless, it's the way you react and treat these kinds of situations in order to bring peace.
See but a lot of those curious questions don't come respectfully thus making the interaction hostile in the first place. This interaction, though scripted, was respectful. He didn't look at her in disgust or insult her outright or backhandedly so she responded in kind. Do some people become defensive and rude when asked a genuine question about this sort of thing? Yes. But as stated, they're like that because they're used to people mistreating them or not asking respectfully/genuinely. Respect has to go both ways for interactions like this to be possible in the future when meeting someone different than you.
I wish people could be this calm and polite.
Mr kim...gentle soul...he didn't judge he just asked...
I've seen a lot of people who are just genuinely curious, but get called trans phobic, homophobic, and other names when they ask things like this. Because of that, people tend to not ask any more and are more judgemental about the community because the few members gave a bad rep for the rest of them
This is called respect
It’s the dream to not have to be on defense all the time when from a community under attack. Making connections with local people makes life much easier. We need people like Mr. Kim.

@captainphasma598 so it's ignorant to ask and be sure of something rather than assuming stuff?
A lot of people just want to understand. They're different, and different is misunderstood. A lot of times people start asking questions, end up asking "the wrong one" and upsetting somebody
An important part in that is still respecting someone while asking questions usually people have just met someone and they ask crazy asf questions (personal or intimate)that you would never ask a stranger but somehow it just becomes ok cause the person is lgbt
@Blood_Bimbo nah, I ask crazy and deep questions of anyone.
@lorismith9403 same. People get made cause im blunt and they see it as rude when really I'm just terrible at saying something or asking something but I say or ask it wrong. I get In trouble for not what I say but how and now I just warn people that I talk to that I don't know how to use my tone of voice when speaking so I'm not being rude on purpose. Most people understand but my family correct me still which can be hard since they just fly off the handle instead of trying to understand me
That's not true... most do not want to understand. But the ones with good intentions are treated better. Instead of getting mad at the reactors, go speak to the ignorant who evoke said reactions.

I wish more interactions were like this daily. Asking questions is not an aggression. Some people are geniunely confused and want to know.
As a drag queen, a lot of people do ask questions in a polite way and I reply in a polite manner going to great lengths to explain it.
It’s the internet that amplifies the hate because it makes people be lost in echo chambers and not actually have a conversation about understanding each other’s differences.
I do receive a lot of hate too. It’s scary, but I try to ignore it most of the time.
i think you also have to take notice of why people feel the need to be aggressive right away, what event or situations have occurred where people who are “different” feel the need to attack.
Most of the time that’s not how it is for lgbt+ people in real life. Usually those who are “confused” choose to hate us instead of wanting to understand.

Most ppl would take, "Why you do like this?", the wrong way. But she observed before making a response. It was clear that he is a foreigner so English probably isn't his native language. Add the fact that he wasn't acting accusatory at all and included a discount to boot it was clear he didn't mean it in a harmful way. So she took the opportunity to educate him and used something he would most likely understand. This is how it should be.
Also as a autistic person I notice people almost never take questions at face value. Like, imagine someone saying "Oh your food smells strong! Why?". Good acting. Bow from the heart.
"friends" ;)
"What you is?"😂😂😭😭😭
"You is uuh what kind?"
Shoot me😭😭🤣🤣
I love that no one got offended. Open communication can heal this world if both parties are willing to listen without judgement and with the intent of having better understanding.
I always love this scene. Mr Kim was genuinely curious and because he was polite, he got a genuine answer.
I'm a trans person and this does happen more than you think but less then you would hope. I think the reason a lot of us get wired when people ask questions is because 80% of the time it's just like in this clip but the other 20% is followed by some craziness, they throw a drink or in a small number hit you or even worse.
@lastedplague I can only imagine...it must be similar in a way to how I feel as a woman whenever someone on the street calls out to me. Like at least half the time, they're genuinely trying to get my attention for a legit reason and it's all good, but the other half of the time is so f-ing creepy that I feel hardwired to have a twinge of panic/fear/anger the second I hear someone call out. Like until you know what you're dealing with, you stay on the side of caution. Such a sucky feeling, I hate having to feel that initial wariness, but soooo nice when proven wrong in the end and it's actually a positive interaction.
@@lastedplague I’ll never think you’re “cool” but I’d still respect what you’d want to be called even though it’s a lie.
Am I hateful for not allowing others to shift what I think is cool and lame?
I’m sure many people aren’t happy about how they are treated, little dude wants to be big dumb guy smart.
It’s impossible to make the little dude big but we can respect him, I’ll even say “you aren’t that short” but in my mind I’m not going believe he’s a giant.
@@eenix0 its in the same vain
I like that he Respectfully asked and the Drag Queen answered with an equal amount of respect.
You mean Mr Kim & Therese?
This is my favorite clip of all time, and it's the first time i even watch it. To be able to communicate with and understand people from different backgrounds while at the same time maintaining ur decency and empathy is what being human really is.
At the end he realized that the owner was just curious. Sometimes a person on defense can easily misinterpret a direct and simple question. And sometimes people don't ask out of fear of being seen as judgemental or hateful. But this is a beautiful interaction.
Sounds like he said negative $4.99!😂
best example for a healthy conversation without hurting each other's sentiments.
Americans, what is wrong with you? How can you tolerate this? $4.99 for a can of dog food? That's insane
Nahh, for ladies cheaper XD
This clip is from the show Mr. Kim's convience store on Netflix. It's a Canadian show. This is/was in Canada.
We’re going through it 😕
@@melnq8 Still in America, the continent, where al the prices are insulting, tbh
Not in this day of age
I love drag queens such honest people especially themselves they don't hide who they truly are. I have a few drag queen friends and they are awesome people
The smile of understanding.
She realized he was genuinely trying to learn and not trying to offend. 💙 Love this.
