Fantastic video Paul! I love those old wooden boats. What a pleasure. Thanks for taking us along. That was, as always, great filming and editing and quite the learning experience as well. Nice sailor's sea poem too! Thanks and cheers!.......⛵⛵⛵
I loved the music at the start it reminds me of a tv show many years ago that I loved watching called "The Onedin Line"... great to see you had some friends following along (dolphins) and nice to see Young Endeavour also. Great video Paul.
Wonderful piece of video Paul. The poet was a special moment in the film. Looking forward to Episode #3. Life is an adventure, you need to live every moment.
Love 💕 the more n more Dolphins 🐬 n sails up n pull. Also enjoyed the poetry of the sea ! Anchoring (checking sea bottom) was interesting too mate. And that lamb, squash n broccoli 🥦 was so tempting ( I could almost smell it (my mouth watering))) ooooh ? Question Paul .. did you bring along your veggie delight beans 🫘 n curry 🍛 diet or plow in the the onboard meals Sir ?! 😁😁😁.. great music/sound mixing too Paul. Sitting here (early pre-Dawn) 32.5 dgs F n sipping steamy hot coffee ☕️ taking in the voyage ! Cheers 🥂 Papa J
Hi Papa J glad you enjoyed it,unfortunately I had to eat meat for the the entire voyage being the only vego,....my system is just getting back to normal, cheers Paul
Esp#2 is equally exquisite n enjoyed see port visit, cleaning 🧹 canons n doing rope loops for Staysail ( looking forward to that) as I continue our voyage n tall ship sailing ⛵️ Mate ! Another great filming n editing to keep vid on key n exceedingly interesting bro. Cheers 🥂 Mate ! Papa J
Another great vid with great theme music. I also liked the poem. Locals might fault you on your pronunciation of Triabunna (more Tri as in triangle than tree) - I used to fish there a lot as a younger man. Otherwise faultless!
Hi Bent yes there will be after the wooden boat festival ep.5 However you do see the Whipstaff as it's called 19 secs in, which is basically a vertical tiller extension that connects to the tiller below the deck. Ship's wheels weren't invented until mid 1700's the original Duyfken was built in 1595. Thanks for watching again, cheers Paul
Thanks Gordon, yes that's true. Paula is an amazing cook and what she produced from a tiny galley with a gas oven and microwave is incredible, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
I think I did not see the mizzen used at all, probably some good reason for that… IIRC during the European voyage in beginning of 2000’s first captain did not use it at all, for some reason they got another captain that sort of understood it better and somebody commented that it was really a useful sail… Good videoing (I try to avoid using ’filming’… :)
Thanks Seppo, yes well spotted we didn't raise the mizzen once. You are right apparently they are tricky and don't add much to the Duyfken's performance. However I have a mizzen on my Stornaway 18 and I find it useful. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
She was first launched without engines and was intended to be just a floating museum, but it was realised, that activity would not raise enough revenue to keep her, so , back on the hard to install the engines, and the rest is history, hey?

Hi Rob....I'm beginning to get a reputation for mispronunciation....but I use the excuse of my English background, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Climbing that hemp rigging was like trying to scale a trifle! hahaha.
Unfortunately we are replacing a lot of the Manila with Hempex as it lasts twice as long, cheers Paul
Are there any detailed scenes from the helm. I wonder how the steering works?
Great video 👍

You sure eat better than the original Duyfken crew did. Fair winds to you.

Hi Paul, when I was mate on the Alma Doepel we never were lifejackets on deck, why do the crew of Duyfken do ???
I don't know, maybe the museum is more risk adverse...changing times, cheers Paul
