  • Teachings of the Buddha - Bāhiya Sutta - from the Udana 1.10 - translated from the Pali by Thanissaro Bhikkhu.
In this brief teaching, the Buddha taught Bahiya to put aside all views of self arising from confused and deluded thoughts based on clinging and craving. Bahiya was right to understand the immediacy of needing to awaken through the Dhamma. No one can know when sickness, aging and death will arise and this is why the Buddha gave these final instructions moments before he himself passed:
“Impermanence and decay are relentless. Strive diligently for your own salvation.”

Just simply too profound. The essence of the teachings of the Tathagatha. After this nothing more is required.

    Vimala Thakar
In the dimension of silence the movement of thought goes on without creating the illusion of a thinker
The reception of sensation and the interpretation of the objects surrounding you takes place without the interpreter.

The beginning and the end of this understanding is the knowledge ‘I am’. The beginning of concepts started with the primary concept ‘I am’. Having wandered through all the concepts, and rejected them, you have to get rid of this last or the first concept-----NISARGADATTA

You hit all the targets on this channel.
The consistency is remarkable. Will you be reading any particulars of samkhya or manusmiriti? It seems they have been suppressed by modern times , which is a shame in my opinion

The Buddha refusing twice to teach the Dhamma is interesting, because presumably the Theravada teachers would believe the Buddha could foresee Bahiya’s death. So it seems more a matter of initiation and testing him.

Dear Sister, does this mean that when one is completely absorbed in the current occurrence, then one’s identification as separate is dissipated? Please give me a brief commentary on the meaning of this Suta.
