I concur! She would make a great presenter and an something of a gift to American fans. While I like the British accent, I could do with an American one every now and then.
Was just up this road for a wildfire at the summit this week. Road looks like it has just been resurfaced and is damn near perfect the whole way up. Better time than ever to give this a ride!
Hi guys, just want to say keep up the good work. I only started cycling in june and have found your videos very useful and fun! In fact I'm probably a wee bit addicted! You guys make cycling interesting and fun. Also learnt so much from the videos too. Don't feel like such a noob now when I'm out. Cheers, Colin.
Colin Abernethy i think so many of us have been in that boat, and have been educated by this wonderful channel :D i can't agreee with you enough colin!!!
I rode it on a mountain bike earlier this year. Awesome rode! it also offers access to sweet trails at the top. Thanks for making these great videos for free!
very cool. i like the epic climbs series. You're just watching some people ride up a hill, but with the chill music, banter and arty style it becomes satisfyingly immersive.
There are some beautiful homes for sale up on this road. I may just be in the position to retire in the next year or two (just shy of turning 50 years old) and I have my eye on this area. I'm currently in Upstate NY but hate snow. Santa Barbara is calling my name. I don't know a single person there, but I've never had a difficult time meeting people. This would be a beautiful place to retire.
I know you have Mt Lemmon in Tucson on your USA top 10 climbs. You should do a video like this one covering the climb from the Desert Floor to the Alpine top. The change of scenery as you climb this rock is what makes it epic. Thanks for doing what you do at GCN. Your videos are instructional and humorous. You truly bring out the best in the sport. Cheers!
Good to see Alexis again on GCN. She certainly balanced things out a bit. Try and get her on a bit more Global Cycling Network - if her race schedule fits in of course. Would have been nice to see the descent too though. That's something I'd like to try, although I'd need to get a ride to the top first :)
I know you never will do this one but I hope some day make a decent video for that one (I already climbed it back in December): We have an 80 km climb where the gain is 3300 meters(400 m to 3700 m) and is called Alto de Letras, it has been used in the Vuelta a Colombia and rumors say is now forbidden because it's too hard for a race, although I've never seen anything official about that yet. Keep up the good work guys. Love your channel. Another dream of mine is being able to have a channel like this in spanish, but I'm a rookie.
+Germán Londoño GCN should definitely come to Colombia, this epic list is not complete without Letras, Minas and La Línea. Maybe the hardest climbs in the world.
You guys should come over to Norway and check out climbs like Trollstigen and Geiranger-Dalsnibba and The Eagle Road. Maybe not quite as "Iconic" as other european climbs but just as epic...Definitely climbs the world should see. Beautiful scenery in the summer!!
Global Cycling Network but waite, there is a photo of u in a cervelo test team jersey, I think u never told us about that, have u really been in the test team?? Lmao
You should really try the Villard notre dame. It`s the most amazing climb you would ever see, with tunnels and with some great landscape. It`s in bourg d`oisans.
Here's a climb you guys might what to check out it. It's called Khardung La in India. At 4.6% grade I may not hard. But almost 50km long and it's the highest road in the world. At 5,359m (17,582ft). I thought you to hear about that. Also I love the video guys.
Haha just like me. I always get beaten to the top of every climb I do by the girl ! Thumbs up for the effort though, we could hear it in your breathing :D
RideWithGPS (using GIS data, rather than GPS data) says 6.6 miles, 2663 ft. elevation gain, and a max slope of 15.9%! I find GIS data more accurate than GPS-recorded data, particularly with regard to altitude/elevation gain. Bike-mounted GPS devices use a barometric altimeter to calculate altitude/elevation gain (I don't know why, GPS satellites are capable of giving direct altitude readings), which can be problematic.
Is this just a vanity piece for Matt to giggle with Alexis, has it been posted by Dan in revenge for all the ribbing you gave him about the Chris Frome man love? :-)
Locally they have a Whiteface Mountain uphill bike race, pretty similar to this climb with an 8%+ average over an 8 mile climb, with a 2 mile warmup, but the rest is. Except it is a race that includes a unicycles division, not joking and neither are the guys on one wheel. Thousands of shorter steeper climbs all over, but not in a race format.
Hi Guys, I've recently purchased your amazing GCN Kit but was disappointed that the Gilet wasn't available. Is this something that you are going to add to your product line???
When Alexis' contract with United Healthcare finishes, will you guys employ her as Neil's partner in the states? I think poor Neil must be feeling a bit lonely on his own!
I'm wondering whether Simon was sat at the back to save energy, or if he was there to enjoy the view ;) - and matt, you sly dog, where were your fingers pointing to at the end of the video when suggesting that we "click down there". In all honesty though, I would suspect that you would double your viewing figures if Alexis was brought in as a weekly presenter
Toughest and most beautiful: Hurricane Ridge, Port Angeles WA. ride from sea level to the Hurricane Ridge summit of 5200’ in 18 miles. Here is a portion, rated HC. www.strava.com/segments/673483
Alexis was cool and did a great job. At the beginning it looked a bit like she was checking out Matt's...er...shorts. Then she laughed. Good recovery though ;)
It's worth mentioning that Gib has just been recently repaved and re-surfaced back in May! Makes for an absolutely incredible and smoooooth ride.
+Charles Rush There should be plenty of free parking at the old mission, yep. Enjoy the ride!
Alexis is incredibly charming and good. When she retires from pro racing, a future GCN presenter perhaps...?
I concur! She would make a great presenter and an something of a gift to American fans. While I like the British accent, I could do with an American one every now and then.
simon is more of a third wheel than a tricycle in this one haha
Didnt even get a high five at the end
lewis donovan yes, he did, at the end! Made his day
Matt was born for the camera.....
I live at the bottom of this climb, by the sea. The Mountain Dr loop before is stunning as well, so lucky to have this.
What's Si doing back there, checking out the situation and waiting to make his move or checking out the situation and waiting to make his move??
orn688 Probably just checking out the view.
+orn688 Playing the part of the awkward 3rd wheel.
Was just up this road for a wildfire at the summit this week. Road looks like it has just been resurfaced and is damn near perfect the whole way up. Better time than ever to give this a ride!

+toasty bear You forgot to sign your name at the end ;) - JH
Jan-Harm van der Merwe TB.....
;)
finally simon gets a high 5 at the end 😂
Ah yes. I used to live next to the Old Mission and this was one of my regular workout rides. I never got sick of it.
I rode it on a mountain bike earlier this year. Awesome rode! it also offers access to sweet trails at the top. Thanks for making these great videos for free!
I don't know about climbs, but I definitely want to see more of Matt's aviators.
So excited to see the Amgen Tour of California go up this tomorrow for the Queen stage of 2018!
Matt's "Clarity!" after that successful high five definitely had a touch of the Partridge about it...
very cool. i like the epic climbs series. You're just watching some people ride up a hill, but with the chill music, banter and arty style it becomes satisfyingly immersive.
For anyone wondering why they re-uploaded it, the visual showed the wrong elevation gain...they corrected it.
mauritsmm yes we did... sorry guys, small error on our part :)
Global Cycling Network You might also want to reupload the thumbnails at the end, at least for me they aren't working
Harmen Luth *edit the thumbnails
Harmen Luth If you have "annotations off" thumbnails don't work. The link is actually in the annotation.
Just found out it was my Magic Actions for RUclips that did it. Great extension, but I forgot that setting ;)
Thanks though
My first Epic Climb video.
Right on! That was a lot of fun to watch.
Loved having a female co-host/guide for the epic climb
If you're still in Cali, check out Mt. Palomar in San Diego County. 5200 ft at the top. One of my favorites.
Can't wait for you guys to do some videos up in NorCal. We've got some great climbs up in Marin County and the Bay Area waiting for you guys.
There are some beautiful homes for sale up on this road. I may just be in the position to retire in the next year or two (just shy of turning 50 years old) and I have my eye on this area. Went up Gibraltar today. Nice gradient until the last mile. But long.
All I see is Matt trying to chat the bird up, he wants to tap that
phil corpe who wouldn't, I am 85 years old and I would do it

love to see more with Alexis Ryan!
Global Cycling Network awesome, love these USA/Cali exposure. Hope you guys visit NYC soon.
GCN should come down under and check out the climbs we have in Australia; Mt Baw Baw in particular.
The Santa Barbara Century goes up Gibraltar. It is by far the hardest climb I've ever done.
Would love to see an unedited onboard descent again! This place looks wickedy wick-wocks.
Good to see Alexis again on GCN. She certainly balanced things out a bit. Try and get her on a bit more Global Cycling Network - if her race schedule fits in of course. Shit. 80km climb! If I was racing in Columbia i would hope it would illegal
Hahahaha I know. That's inhuman for a race.
+Germán Londoño GCN should definitely come to Colombia, this epic list is not complete without Letras, Minas and La Línea. Maybe the hardest climbs in the world.

You guys are in California, only 1-1/2 hours south of me! Woot!
Definitely hit up the bay area some time!!!
Did you guys ride up painted cave too? That one is relentless and can really hurt the knees.
Can we expect to see a rolled up newspaper next to the brick in a future EP? :)
Before she got famous on GCN, Alexis used to race cyclocross in SoCal - and very well.
Ha! I used to ride this 3 days a week as a junior.....On a mountain bike.
Just read your comment on the tour de France in the latest issue of the german pro cycling magazine lloydy, nice comment, great stuff :)
Thanks Vince. Dan
Global Cycling Network no problem, yw
Global Cycling Network but waite, there is a photo of u in a cervelo test team jersey, I think u never told us about that, have u really been in the test team?? Lmao
You should really try the Villard notre dame. It`s the most amazing climb you would ever see, with tunnels and with some great landscape. It`s in bourg d`oisans.
In Costa Rica I have a 36 km Climb where you gain about 2800 mts. I think thas an EPIC CLIMB
We want more Alexis!!
Did you know this is going be done now! Amgen 2016!!
Here's a climb you guys might what to check out it. It's called Khardung La in India. At 4.6% grade I may not hard. But almost 50km long and it's the highest road in the world. At 5,359m (17,582ft). I thought you to hear about that. Also I love the video guys.
2:05: I thought you were taking it easy? Time lapsing takes all the energy out of you.
2016 Tour of California!!!
Nice very enjoyable
I lost my comment when the video was re-loaded - I'm going to try the "paper boy" technique" on a long climb on my next opportunity.
Cielito means little sky or sweet sky (just FYI) :)
Btw, nice cyclist glasses those are. Matt just got stuck in the Beattle's era
Bealach-na-ba in Scotland please!
Global Cycling Network we want to see more this girl in more video she is awesome and charistmatic
their grinding is killing me
Why was this re - uploaded? I saw this once at noon and now again?

Christian Ortega Smith Overtake
This was great. Any possibility of a GCN - Americas? (though I'm unsure how rider friendly most roads are in the Americas)
The Connor Pass, the Gap of Dunloe and Priest's Leap
Haha just like me. I always get beaten to the top of every climb I do by the girl !
Thumbs up for the effort though, we could hear it in your breathing :D
Nice!
Have you guys ever climb Mount Evans here in Colorado ?
si just ask her out
cohen bushcraft But he's married.
cohen bushcraft Alexis is like 20 years old man...
You guys should visit Philippines. We have a lot of pretty epic climbs here. :)

Best time is 1hour 4 mins lol. I'm a mortal as Matt says lol.
what a brutal ascent, that is the worst most beautiful climb I have ever done
then you have done many. Go south and do Mt Baldy, this santa barabara climb is for beginners.
why were you grinding it? bat gear selection?
How do we get GCN up to the bay area? Tons of classic climbs around here that have been highlighted in the tour of California.
Mt. Diablo FTW!!!
Is this just a vanity piece for Matt to giggle with Alexis, has it been posted by Dan in revenge for all the ribbing you gave him about the Chris Frome man love? :-)
Hi Matt. Where are your sport glasses? lol
Locally they have a Whiteface Mountain uphill bike race, pretty similar to this climb with an 8%+ average over an 8 mile climb, with a 2 mile warmup, but the rest is. Except it is a race that includes a unicycles division, not joking and neither are the guys on one wheel.

Hi Guys, I've recently purchased your amazing GCN Kit but was disappointed that the Gilet wasn't available. Is this something that you are going to add to your product line???
Mark Hill Hi Mark, glad you like the kit. We'll be looking into the kit situation soon!
Thanks, it'll be a great addition!! ooooo and arm warmers too ;-)
More Alexis and Tiffany Cromwell in videos please. They add something a little different and would make great presenters :)
When Alexis' contract with United Healthcare finishes, will you guys employ her as Neil's partner in the states? I think poor Neil must be feeling a bit lonely on his own!
Come to British Columbia, Vancouver. we have many climbs over 1000 M
I love seeing these climbs, but what epic climbs are there in the UK? It's abit too expensive to fly out to these places for the average Joe :(
Alexis Ryan!
trying paper boy tomorrow :D
Captain?!, what sunglasses is that?
Alexis' so cool
The paperboy
More Alexis please!
No low fives this time Si?
It's great now, this climb will not be a part of Tour of California 2016!
Caption comp: For the first half of the video, it was like si was the "third wheel" or should I say 6th
Simon and Matt taking turns being the third wheel. Not used to cycling with ladies?
super low cadance alarm !
Nicole Cooke would perfect for a female presenter ! Strong cyclist yet good in front of the camera due her character! ;)
I don't think anyone can look at Matt and keep a straight face on.
GIBRALTAR ESPAÑOL!!
I thought this was going to be a 450 watts climb..
Replace Neil with Alexis!!
