- Hey Y'all, it's Gina Tell back again on my new RUclips Channel with a video to show you a few things about binding. I do a lot of binding since I am a long arm quilter, so I get to try lots of new things, and today I am sharing how I add Lori Holt's Vintage Trim (RicRac) into the quilt binding. It's super easy so don't worry, just a little extra step and I know you got this!
I am sharing my affiliate links below for some of the products you'll see in today's video:

Or you can use Crochet Edge Bias tape instead of the RicRac, check out my Instagram for a really cute quilt I just made, it looks like flange binding with this same technique

Thank you for sharing this technique. I see Rick rack in my future endeavors.
Thanks for the video. It refreshed my memory!! Ready to do it!!
Oh yes! I am going to leave that 1/4" on my next binding project, I have not been satisfied with my binding and this may just be the solution! Thank you for sharing this video, Gina, and I can't wait to see what tips you have for the hand binding 😍 ... oh and the RicRac is gorgeous!
Thanks for watching, I am so glad you are excited to try it!
Thanks for sharing this additional step with us…great job❣️
Hello! I hope you had a peaceful day! I just got out of my sewing room and sat down to watch your video. I'm enjoying your content and love to learn new things. I hope you have a fabulous week ahead! Thank you for sharing this video and your time.
I love your name lol and thank you for watching and taking the time for such a sweet comment! ❤️❤️❤️
OMG yes , I learned a better way to do my bindings, This was a great video thank you.
Just met yours “how to” video. I will definitely give it a try !! ❤ thanks 🙏🏼
That is some amazing stitching there! Your work is always so perfect! Thank you for sharing. I’ve never trimmed a 1/4” away, I’m going to try it because I always have some space on mine.
Thank you Gina!!! All your work is sooo beautiful!!! I am learning so much from your tutorials. I can't wait for your video on Hand Binding too!!
Thanks for the video. I think the vintage trim sure adds a little zing to the quilt. Would love to have seen how you joined the two ends. Could that be future video? Looking forward to seeing the finish with binding.
I have something exciting for that part, stay tuned... Thanks for watching
I am so going to use the RicRak trick on my quilt when I'm to that point. I think it's funny to call it "vintage" but I guess I'm vintage too! lol
I plan to attend my annual quilt retreat next month… i will follow your lead on the trim technique with ‘one of my projects’. I have applied a flange to my quilted project. Always enjoyed the finished look. I like the look of the rick rack on Kimberly’s quilt. Thank you for the tutorial.
Oh that’s sounds like tons of fun! Enjoy your retreat ❤️
Thanks for sharing I was wondering how to put Rick rack on my quilts thank you very much
Well done Gina!!
Absolutely beautiful. I LOVE hand binding quilts. Love it.
Love this video, Gina. Very informative and easy to follow directions. Thank-you. I also subscribed today. Pam Miller in Alabama
This is so adorable!! Now to order some ric rac
This was awesome. Thank you Gina. You do beautiful quilting
Thanks for the demo!
A very cute idea 🤗🧵🪡✂️
Thank you for sharing this super cute technique!
Thank you so much Gina! I love learning from you
Means a lot to me - thank you sew much!
Oh my goodness! I was mesmerized watching your video! The vintage trim/RicRac looks so nice. I've seen Kimberly talk about and show us that she had you add it to her quilts but this up close video is amazing! I will also try your trimming method when I finish the quilt on my longarm. Thanks for the tip! (I also like your sewing music choice.) 😊
Thank you sew much for the kind words, you are awesome 😍✂️🧵
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I was a little nervous in doing it but looks so simple!
You got this!!
That's adorable Gina!
Go, Gina, go!! :-)
Awesome
Great video, looking forward to more!
Gina, thanks for the tutorial. Your step by step method makes it look easy. I will try this on my next quilt and look at what colors are available in the Rick rack.
Thanks for watching, excited to see what you make!
Love this, thank you for the video!
Can’t wait to do this on a baby quilt.
Thanks for the demo. I’ve got a small quilt I wanted to add trim to. Now I’m definitely going to give it a try. I love the 1/4 inch extra edge to bulk up the binding interior.
Make sure you share so I can see it! :)
Could you show how you do your corners when adding binding. Thanks Bonnie
Thanks, Gina, for taking the time to show us this. I have a quilt to finish that would sure benefit from a little ric rac. I will try leaving that 1/4 " when I trim the 2021 Designer Mystery quilt, and will let you know what I think.
Can't wait to see it Sue!
GreT video, thank you .
Beautiful, what size ric rac did you use here??
Hi Gina, If I missed this, I'm sorry - but how wide do you cut your binding strips?
Thank you for another great tutorial! If I have a lot of quilts to finish, I cheat and do machine binding. I sew it to the back and flip it to the front to finish (like Corey Yoder). Do you think I could still add RicRac? It is so adorable and adds that little extra.
I do my machine binding the same way when I am in a hurry too, and yes I think it would be cut with machine binding as well
When I machine bind I saw on the front and stitch in the ditch
When just adding binding h no Ric RAC do you use 1/8 seal allowance, in essence 3/8 total?
I’m planning to make future binding videos without ric rac, but I would suggest getting a scrap piece and playing with it and see what is easiest for you on the machine you use, the foot on my Juki is a little skinnier than 1/4 so I just use that as my guide. Thank you for watching 😍✂️🧵
Did you explain how you trim the fabric but not the batting?
You can look at some of my other videos. I explain my technique for binding with my rulers with 3 different videos.

So in trimming the edge for the binding, you trim the quilt top 1/4” shorter than the backing and batting? How do you do this ?
Nope, you leave the quilt top exactly as the maker pieced it, after the long arm quilting you just cut with your rotary cutter and use a ruler 1/4" away from the edge and trim it. I will make another video soon showing this for you
How do you know when to stitch to the outside of the quilt when sewing the mitred corners?
I used to mark it 1/4 inch from the edge, but I have done it for so many years now I don't need to do the mark. I plan to do another video to show full binding and all my tricks in the future though.
What if the actual quilt top needs to be squared
@@janetbrown4350 I don’t cut into my quilt tops to square them, I try to keep them square as I make them and I bind them as they are after quilting.
What size is your rickrack
I am using the Large Vibrate trim, the link is in the description box. Thanks for watching
