This and Tokyo SOS were peak Millenium era. While some of the CGI shots were still a little off, the Kiryu films have a good balance of scrappy close combat that brings out the suitmation with plenty of long-range exchanges between heat rays, laser, and missiles. Combine subtle editing tricks like slowing down the rate right along with the the VFX of the streets around them exploding and you convey the sheer masses of Godzilla and Mechagodzilla colliding against each other. To me they're the right balance of all special effect categories and I always appreciate watching them.
I remember having toys and blocks to recreate this battle growing up. Before I had seen this, I had only seen the Showa Mechagodzilla ones,and all my friend had only seen this. We would debate is Mecha G was good or bad… without seeing each others movies 😂

Also the designs are so peak, Michiru Oshima's soundtrack is incredible, and Akane is a great character.

Kiryu is my absolute personal favourite version of Mechagodzilla and I think Kiryu is the absolute best version of Mechagodzilla.

This "Kiryu" is my favorite mecha Godzilla because it looks the more like Godzilla then the other's

This Mechagodzilla design is very cool, but Showa Mechagodzilla is the ultimate badass. It doesn't have a human pilot.
