I'm an Army grunt and went through basic and AIT at Ft. Benning over 10 years ago. I wish I had this training back then! Much love to my Marine Corps brothers!
Well there will always be that Army vs. Marines stuff. At the end of the day, no branch is tougher than the other. When I say that, I mean that both Army and Marines have fought in the same war and the same brave men and women have died on the battle field. I honestly think comparing the two branches is a joke. Comparing Army versus Marines is like comparing a running back in football to a wide receiver. Both players are on the same field but have a different purpose, different role, and the same goal, and that is to win the game. I'm not trying to talk all eloquent and stuff but lets be real, The Army and Marines fight for the same goal, country, and flag. At the end of the day no branch of the Military takes all the credit for themselves but credit to all that fought together in the same war.
I'm not comparing Air Force to the Army or Marines. Air Force is in a boat of it's own. My focus is on the Army and Marines. To top it all off I am not making an argument over who is the toughest of the toughest. I am focusing more so on the importance of Army and Marines. No branch of the military takes all the credit for itself. Marines has it's function as well as the Army has it's function and no branch can take all the credit for themselves. The reason why I say that is because the Marines role is way too important to focus on themselves as if they accomplish everything and the same go's for the Army. The roles meet up to take the the victory!
That sad part is that the difference lies in quantity vs quality Im sure if the marine corps was a lot bigger than the army then it would be the army being the tougher ones. Since the quantity lies in how scary the basic training is to people.
The issue with all of these arguments is that they're not taking each branches specialty into account. The Marines are a great invasion force, while the Army is better suited as an occupational force. They can both do well either way, but are oriented for specific tasks. So arguing about which one is better is pointless.
There you go! Another typical, sea soldier, better than thou attitude. Dont forget the Army did some ass kicking invasions, in every war, ourselves pal. Aaaand we do a GREAT job at occupying, getting pussy, and defending. Hooah!
The army can do both. Every invasion force that the US has amassed has had more army units during the initial entry with marine units as their adjacent units. The marine corps can also do both. In every quadmire the US has been stuck in the Marines have had to play as America’s second army. It’s all redundant at this point.
I'm very proud to see both branches of service working together and building the camaraderie together as they stated, in my opinion there is just too much immature BS service rivalry with the same old overly prideful flavor of "We're better because we're this or we're better because we do that" kind of crap you constantly hear. Hopefully this will continue and we'll train as one integrated force because we all have the same mission/objective.
I wished they had this kind of training available for those of us that would like to get trained even if older and civilian. God Bless You all. Great work - for helping those to be wise and be safe. Come Home.. "Our" Country needs you. I'm proud of you all! Thank you.
Army infantry AIT is basically a continuation of basic training. Same Drill Sergeants, same barracks. When I got back from my 36 hour pass between "basic" and "ait" they smoked us in our class A's for several hours while we repeated "No-Thing- Has-Changed" as a cadence lol.
To answer that, it's not all about being buffed all the time. Those Marines are in really good shape and they can run and manuever in heavy equipment for miles. Being big is not always better. There are some really big monsters in the Marines as well, you just haven't seen them.
You seem like they guy who thinks Marines invaded islands by themselves then went "hey Army, we killed em all. Come in." Army Infantry in the Pacific did just as much as the Marines. The 77th ID for example was attached to the 3 MEF on Guam and fought side by side and were called the "77th Marines". The 77th also made landings in Oki. It's amazing to think something like 9/10 of the Army's strength was focused in Europe and we still did so much in the pacific.
Majority of Combat against the Japanese in the Philippines were Majority Army. There were Marines manning the Big Guns of fortifications and Marine Aviators with there Hellcats and Corsairs.
@@kolinmartz Factually not true. There were a handful of Marine officers serving in specialized roles present on D-Day that went ashore. This is a matter of historical fact, and is easily found if you had bothered to look.
Army doesn't have SOI unless it's changed in the last few years. OSUT- one station unit training. Infantry AIT follows basic training immediately with the same DS's acting as the trainers.
From what I seen it was a Marine Combat Instructor in a Army Training group right out of boot. You all should be thankful that a Marine brother would take the time or the TAD to do this. As a Marine I think all who on both sides got to learn a great deal on how the other did thing's. From Nov. 10, 1775 we as a group have went in with the least amount of support and had the best result's when it comes to combat. We are the best small Military group in the world, Last to know First to Go.
i think what the marine sgt, was trying to stress, more so than not communicating "we dont talk in the marines" was the benefits of taking initiative in combat, being cognizant of whats taking place, so you can take the initiative and move forward without waiting to be told to do so, which is actually a big fundamental difference from the marine corp and the us army, i'm proud to have been a marine and am proud to be currently serving as a soldier,
It's refreshing when you work with soldiers from other branches that DON'T have their heads up their backsides treating things like a high school rivalry. BackwoodsAnglerx17, you're right. Hope the Marines are working out for you pal. I'm Army myself. & the main point is that we (the U.S.) are the best fighting force in the world. It's time all branches stopped grabbing their packages & act like it.
i was at FT Benning from febuary to april and i actually saw the marine SGT a number of times i saw him marching a platoon and saw him in the dfac up the hill from my CTA
people tend to mix up light infantry and mechanized infantry. mechanized infantry is used mostly to occupy areas. Light infantry units (6 airborne brigades), 101st airborne and 10th mountain etc... light units are meant to go in first to scout out areas, fight, and pave a way for an occupying force. However the Army only uses Rangers and Airborne forces as shock troops while Marines use MEUs' and Recon units to lead their AO.
Marine Corps 0311 and Army 11B-- an awesome sauce, unstoppable Infantry combo of firepower, technology and 100 per cent Grunt Grit!! GOD Bless The Infantry!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸💪🤘💀
yeah, I know all about the military, my mom was in the air force as well as my step father, in fact most of my family were and are in the military, its kinda the only thing i know :)
This was early on in the Reagan's first term, I was with CINPAC at the time. A Marine batallion experimented with the Army squad and other sub-unit structure then "new" command team brought in to document the process to convert to Marine squad and sub-unit structure. As I said this was just discussed and the loigistics of the effort examined. I know the Army has the lead school for UAV operator trianing
No, there was a "controlled burn" that day. I kid you not when I saw they have people drive around on 4 wheelers burning underbrush. It's pretty cool actually.
I really appreciate his thoughts on communication after close contact. It is so difficult and fractured. You should immediately utilize cover and lay down covering fire until the next squad is in place. That should absolutely be the rule. Way too much emphasis on commo right now.
To answer your question when they select Marines for marching companies they select Marines based on height. They select infantry Marines that are 6' tall or taller. Then out of those they select the strongest to be "body bearers".
I pretty curious of how he had to adjust seeing as how (in the previous video) he said that Marines have 3 teams vs the 2 teams in the Army. Was it difficult? Did it make anything more efficient or the opposite? How was it different? Man, I wish I was there, I would have had so many questions. Just the sheer amount of combined knowledge in between those two.
There was talk during the Reagan Admin to fold the Rangers and 101st into the Marine Corps. The Marines even drew up a 8 weeks indoctrination "boot camp" to Marineify (my word) them. There is always the talk about excessive officers. Even accouting for service size and things like number of aircraft, both the Army and Air Force need to get rid of ~14,000 officers to match the Marines' officer to enlisted ratio. Also both AF and Army will hare a GS9 Civilian to do the job of an E1-3 base side.
You can't compare the two recon marines are suppose to go behind enemy lines and scout out the are before the regular infantry Marines get there while a ranger is a quick reaction force that specializes in direction and raids and is considered the number one light infantry unit in the world
Not one real NCO/SGT/SSGT/PO 2ND Class or any Commissioned Officer(s) should be here giving in to this "juvenile debate" of which branch is better. Our job as Leaders is to cement the brotherhood and camraderie between the U.S. Armed Forces, not be here like some of our juvenile counterparts are here going to war with one another and tearing one another down. If we are at war with one another over some trivial mess like this, how are we going to be expected to treat one another in the time of outside adversity? ? All this brainwashing crap about who's the best and whatnot was a motivational tactic invented to instill pride in your fighting force not to use a tool to make you develop a superiority complex.
MIKEL0352 I was NBC deployed 1st Mar Div 2003, joined up with an Army Chemical company that I will not name. Fine group of people, awesome at their job, but were not trained to be basic riflemen like we are.
This may be a class A stupid question, but is there a difference in the uniforms between the Marines and the Army? Sorry for my ignorance but the CF is small enough that we just use CADPAT.
Yeah you can see the difference in the video. The Marine is wearing the desert MARPAT (they wear woodland MARPAT more than anything) while the Soldiers are wearing UCP pattern. The Army is getting rid of the UCP pattern in favor of the OCP pattern.
You seem to know a lot about this stuff, so who do you think would win, Army Rangers, or Marine Force Recon? There both kind of the elite versions of there respective branch, and there both pretty cool.
Don't mind me just adding my two cents in but the Marine Corps Force Recon are capabible, forgive my spelling, of being Teir 1 certified though the Marine Corps a couple years back announced that they have no interest in becoming a Teir 1 group
+Donald Haskins Really, it's pointless. Those guys not only work alongside one another so often, and have crosstrained from one of those jobs into another one of those jobs, they often train at each other's schools. For example, a guy in any one of those careers might go get his jump wings from the Army alongside other SOC members of other branches, then went and did underwater egress with the Navy alongside SEALS, etc, etc. Even their basic chants are similar. One thing you'll hear among SOC trainee's in most fields is "Hoorah", regardless of the branch. These guys are all versatile and hard as rocks, but they are naturally more in-tuned with each other than infantry from one branch to the next. Many of the Cadre will jump from branch to job. I had 2 cadre that were former SEALS who never heard of our job in our branch until they were SEALs and worked alongside them. They weren't happy with the Navy life, finished their contracts, were allowed to jump over on a probationary program that allowed them to go through the pipeline and then commit upon graduation. All of these SOC fields have their specific area of expertise. But their inherent culture is really indistinguishable. Any specialized training a unit might need, they'll just GO to the guys who do it best. That'll then be reciprocated later when the students become the trainers, and so on.
Actually, if you want to go into detail the first ones into any country, even before JSOC units above Rangers, are paramilitary units of the CIA's Special Activities Division among others that I'm not at liberty to discuss.
at about 1:04 i swear i hear "batoon" and i thought i heard it in "full metal jacket," too. is this just a variation of pronouncing "platoon," or is it something different, or i am just hearing things? thanks.
I think what he meant is Marines take the coast so the army can then take the fight to the enemy once the beach head is taken with the aid of the Marines, Air-force, and Navy. I'm not sure though I can't understand his second grade grammar abilities.
From what I could glean from wiki and other sources about each units primary missions. Force Recon = Deep reconnaissance, direct action, primarily supports Marine operations. Army SF = Unconventional warefare, foreign internal defense, special reconnaissance, direct action, and counter-terrorism. Of course, their secondary missions practically overlap 100% so, to reiterate what everyone else has already said: two different units with two different mission sets.
I dont know why this doesnt happen more often... They should have a 3 week period in basic that they do the switch... because in Afghanistan and Iraq your fighting right next to the marines or the marines are fighting right next to the army... so its good to know what each other is going to do in a fire fight
Just curious, why don't they teach the soldiers how to shoot both right and left handed so that they can be in cover the entire time? As a righty myself I feel like my ass is beggin to be shot off when I aim around the left side of a structure.
I'm a little shocked that this isn't more common--I think I just assumed that instructors at the infantry schools knew how and what their counterparts were teaching.
well their are 2 level of combat instructors. Those who teach MCT (Marine Combat Training) and those who teach infantry which is about 2 months longer. So your comparison to super hero is a good one but when infantry rolls into town or even scout recon they are more like gods. the 1st sgt for MCT was a infantry and even a blown up leg wouldnt keep him out of the fight with his marines.
11B Infantry is what I'm in the process of. Comment what Basic you attended/will attend! I wonder how many of us all attended basic or will attend basic together and never knew it...
Fix, Find, Destroy vs Locate, Close With, Kill. All assault through objectives on contact. It's still "Cover me while I move" followed by "Fuck you, I'm Covered".
The same can be said to SonofLights83's comment. Force Recon and the Army SF do overlap in Direct Action, Special Recon, and Foreign Internal Defense. I agree they have different missions and skill sets tho. MARSOC would be a better debate. They're taking a lot of work from the Army SF. More versatile IMO.
All it depends on your Drill Instructors and Unit leadership. Some units in the Army are better than others. Some Marine Corps units are better than the others. It's like working at several McDonald's. Some McDonald's restaurant staffs are better than others. Army usually gets better equipment while the Marines make do because they are under Navy Command.
technically, the Marine Corp is required to define its prpose and refine it so as to remain in existence. If they cannot justify their need or substantiate an ability, they technically can be ended. However, this will never happen because there will always be a need for a forward deployed force in readiness..
Crocodiles and lions each have their own domain where they are top predator. It would just be weird mashing them together. (Lame analogy but it's the only semi-good one I can think of at the moment.)
I'm not going to disagree that infantry, and non-infantry MoS are not the same, they are not, but i've met WAY too many Grunts that think they are the only ones who fight, and give their lives while serving, and it's just not true, to me anyone who has been in combat deserves respect, we are combat vets - Like i said, i've met many Grunts who did 1 term, never deployed, stayed in Hawaii in a training units, and never left, and i've met cooks who have have 4 tours, and a CAR (USMC version of CIB)
Those recruits are lucky indeed. I would of love to have that diversity of Marines and Army combo. Infantry leads the way. Oo-rah!
+David Soto Hooah is the Army and Oorah is the Marines.

+snipe69 no its still the same scout sniping is with the marines
I think this is where the Army came up with idea to increase Infantry OSUT from 15 weeks to 21 Weeks. Hopefully BCT from 10 Weeks to 12 Weeks.
why didn't they show the DS trainings at SOI
Actually, if you want to go into detail the first ones into any country, even before JSOC units above Rangers, are paramilitary units of the CIA's Special Activities Division among others that I'm not at liberty to discuss.
In basic I was in 3-46 INF
I was a medic that went through basic in Ft. Benning, light years from the medics that went through relaxing jackson
at about 1:04 i swear i hear "batoon" and i thought i heard it in "full metal jacket," too. is this just a variation of pronouncing "platoon," or is it something different, or i am just hearing things? thanks.
I think what he meant is Marines take the coast so the army can then take the fight to the enemy once the beach head is taken with the aid of the Marines, Air-force, and Navy. I'm not sure though I can't understand his second grade grammar abilities.
This is nice for both militaries
From what I could glean from wiki and other sources about each units primary missions.
Force Recon = Deep reconnaissance, direct action, primarily supports Marine operations.
Army SF = Unconventional warefare, foreign internal defense, special reconnaissance, direct action, and counter-terrorism.
Of course, their secondary missions practically overlap 100% so, to reiterate what everyone else has already said: two different units with two different mission sets.
Is that 1SG Hainy? 1-19th Inf Bn?
I dont know why this doesnt happen more often... They should have a 3 week period in basic that they do the switch... because in Afghanistan and Iraq your fighting right next to the marines or the marines are fighting right next to the army... so its good to know what each other is going to do in a fire fight
cool thanks for the info, i got about 2 years to decide so i'll keep debating it in my head :)
Just curious, why don't they teach the soldiers how to shoot both right and left handed so that they can be in cover the entire time? As a righty myself I feel like my ass is beggin to be shot off when I aim around the left side of a structure.
Can someone help me, I dont know which branch to join, Army or Marines, no biased answers please!
what kind of job ? what do they do ? i want to understand the difference
Is there a link for the Army instructors going to MCT or SOI?
Can you even tell me what MARSOC stands for without googleing it?
I will bet they are the best platoon in the army because they have the training of marines
I'm a little shocked that this isn't more common--I think I just assumed that instructors at the infantry schools knew how and what their counterparts were teaching.
Sgt. Mutter was a cool dude. Only thing I didn't like was when he set off a grenade sim behind me at night.
rebelraider5 if it were me, it would have been CS. Sweet dreams. 🤣
We're all on the same side, and can learn off each other.
No part one?
I thought they'd be using eachothers' branches' drill instructors/sergeants
exactly what wars were you the first to go or fight?
well their are 2 level of combat instructors.
Mutter!!! Holy shit I haven't seen him since the ATBN days.
Nice, you a soldier or officer?
whats the difference between boot camp and basic training
Pretty much just the name. Army calls it's Basic Combat Training while Marines call it boot camp.
Assimilating civilians into the military life:
Army = Basic
Marines = Bootcamp
Similar training with different names.
what are your thoughts on the seals?
The marines was made for the navy and the air force was made for the army, but marines and army get along the best.
More versatile IMO.
oh i miss read the title i thought it meant that the recruits switched.
All it depends on your Drill Instructors and Unit leadership. Some units in the Army are better than others. Some Marine Corps units are better than the others. It's like working at several McDonald's. Some McDonald's restaurant staffs are better than others. Army usually gets better equipment while the Marines make do because they are under Navy Command.
whats the chance these wars will ever end? i am sick of war!
technically, the Marine Corp is required to define its prpose and refine it so as to remain in existence. If they cannot justify their need or substantiate an ability, they technically can be ended. However, this will never happen because there will always be a need for a forward deployed force in readiness..
"infantry brothers"....... i dig it
The dogface and the devil dogs, it sounds like a winning combination.
Amen a grunt is a grunt. I agree
THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE THIS 20 YEARS AGO.
