- One reason we love exploring Ecuador is because we never know what to expect and we're always surprised by what we find!
In this video, we share several things that make the area and communities around the base of the Ilaló Volcano near Quito Ecuador so unique and unusual.
Ilalo is located about 20 minutes from the center of Quito and 10 minutes from Tumbaco Ecuador. The Quito International Airport is about 30 minutes away.

Soy Ecuatoriano y no sabia de este lugar. Gracias por el video es hermoso mi pais .
I'm Ecuadorian from the coast and have an avocado tree at home but never knew that avocados could also grow in the highlands. And it's true, those avocados taste much much better than the typical Hass ones found in North America. Ecuador's microclimates are such a blessing.
This video shows why Ecuador is a beautiful place, is inviting and you can feel peace in nature and it’s people. Thank you for taking us to a beautiful place today :)
Well said 😊👍🇪🇨
As animal and avocado lovers, we definitely enjoyed this video! Thank you for sharing these experiences- especially showcasing the woman who crafts the sieves! It’s amazing how you two give audience and positive recognition to people’s life work and traditions. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! It seems that every town we visit, it's known for something special, and it's a dying tradition. The younger generation is moving away and getting jobs, and modern manufacturing is much faster and cheaper than making things by hand.
I love birds. I could spend all day there interacting with the birds.
The colorful birds were very friendly, too!
Love y'all! I'm always anxious for the next video! Love the new format - informative and fun. Makes me want to travel to Ecuador again soon!
Great! Thanks for the feedback 😊👍
right on! I love when folks help wildlife that is always good medicine!

Awesome, thank you!
I lived in Quito for 3 years and never knew of this place!
I lived in Quito for 10 years and never heard of these beautiful places! I remember there was only a pool there, I guess I was a child back then so I don’t really remember it. They should make more ppl know of these beautiful places in Quito.
Absolutely stunning! Great video guys. Thanks a bunch from Canada 🇨🇦.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The Quito area is my favorite part of Ecuador! Thank you for sharing some new areas I haven't been to yet. Look forward to visiting in the near future. The avocados looked amazing, the birds were beautiful and that dog really like Amelia!
That dog loved Amelia! 😂
My favorite variety of a agauacates!!! I bought 6 of them today

Me derretí mirando esa fauna maravillosa de mi lindo Ecuador ¡y ese paisaje!😍😍😍...¡Gracias por el video!...👋😁🇪🇨🇺🇸
Hermosa tierra muy hermosa.
Amelia and JP, thanks again for another insightful journey. I love how approachable you are to these experiences. I greatly appreciate how you are always so respectful of the people you encounter. Regardless of specific culture, we are 99% or more a like. Peace and good health to you both.
I’m from Ecuador but live in Texas. You have no idea how much I enjoy these videos. Hopefully I will visit these places some day. I usually go to Cuenca, Guayaquil and Bahía (which you should visit), so I have to widen my travel plans when I go to Ecuador.
Blessed and thank you
My goodness you both really are having the adventure of your lives! I'm glad for you. Thanks for showing mi birth country. Greetings from Midwest! Still too cold here!
What beautiful places - all of them 😊
Definitely places to visit - including avocados...mum's 🥑🥑
Thanks so much for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@AmeliaAndJP I sure did..need to make a long list over all the places I will visit when I finally come to Ecuador. There is certainly no need to be bored down there. 😊
Enjoy the rest of your day..
Love this video
Amazing
Beautiful shots with your drone, guys! Did you finally get the old one replaced?
Thanks! We did upgrade the drone. The batteries on Mini won’t charge and they make a high pitched whistle when I charge them. We decided it was time.
Thanks guys I really enjoyed your beautiful video……I’ve have fallen in love with Ecuador through your videos.
Glad you like them!
JP you look like you’re doing great in the altitude!
I'm doing very well! Thanks!
In spite of its size, Ecuador is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. It was interesting to see those vultures "ride" the thermals to reach higher altitudes. Thank you for sharing with us some of what Ecuador has to offer and keep exploring that beautiful country.
What an amazing video and place … you never have enough avocados 🥑😋, great vid guys ♥️♥️
Gracias!
WOW I cannot wait to visit this place!!!!
Great video. Thank you!
Love this video thanks 🥰
Glad you enjoyed it!
They’re back!
Keep up the great work you guys ... I watch your posts all the time ...I'm from Vernon BC Canada and because of you guys I've booked my flight to Manta for Oct of this year to check things out for myself... I'm looking for a place to hang my retired hat
What a video of tours, the birds, hand making sieves, but the B&B at the end was my favorite, I think. Thanks for sharing those places!
Patreon Unconventional supporter here! This is one of your best videos yet! The bird sanctuary is remarkable. Thank you! 💙 (Ellen)
Gracias! And thanks for being a supporter!
We have stayed at Casa Ilayaku twice now and have used Paul as a guide. Marco's B & B is fabulous and the food is even better. I highly recommend them both.
Great! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Absolutely loooved this video! Thank you for sharing. Can’t wait to visit these places!!
This was such a great video, you guys! Thanks for sharing your lives. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it!
I miss Ecuador 🇪🇨
Hello guys, those bunnies are so cute.
They were so soft!
Another GREAT video! Thanks for your wonderful channel.
Guys, if you get a chance to go north, visit Atuntaqui. I've never been, but it's the hometown of my wife's family. Evidently, there's a statue there of my wife's late uncle, Jorge Reynan Salazar. A remarkable musician, he made his way through Mexico in the 50's where he made movies. He eventually made his way to NY, and was an early purveyor of musica authentica from Ecuador. Although he did as so many did from south of the border- he had a mariachi group! He made his own guitars, and when he met me, he was so happy to find that I was a musician, he spent an afternoon showing me the fret system he had devised, which he had patented.
Just head to Otavalo, and continue north!
Amelia" When I was a little girl, my dad told me this smile would take me anywhere" Little did he know I would end up a star on youtube, married to a great guy, in Ecuador!
😊
Incredible mis amigos
THANKS GUYS FROM PALM DESERT CALIFORNIA 🏜
De nada!
So Adorable CREATURES. 🇪🇨
Avocados?! I am moving!
Beautiful Air BnB! More bunnies, please!
I love avocadoes I wish I had more land I would plant my own trees!
I lost track of you folks...
Wondered if u were still down there. Tee
P.S. loved the avocado tour. Beautiful B&B
Beautiful video, enjoyed it thanks 🙂👏👍
saludos cordiales desde manta amelia
Used to have 5 or 6 varieties on a property we leased in Fallbrook, California....including Fuerte. Miss having good avocados...on the south Oregon coast for now.
What a beautiful place. I want go on my next trip!
I love this video! Thanks for sharing!
How important are your videos, they are the best
Lucky is the man waking up to that smiling face every day - regardless of where he lives...
Oh my goodness, what a WONDERFUL video! ❤️ I so enjoyed every minute of this. Did the artist share what the sieves are traditionally used for, a specific food or something?
A variety of things. Mostly flour.
Damn lucky you two, I have to buy my avocado's from Sam's Club, and they have been frozen. Your picking them off the Tree that grew them, unbelievable! Mastodon's, Saber Tooth Tigers, amazing our relatives survived. Next hobby you two need to pick up is swinging a Metal Detector to find treasure our ancestor's left behind.
Great video, I have to visit "Aguacate" land.
Very good video as usual.
Enjoy each and everyone of your videos!!!
Glad you like them!
It's wonderland.
Love aguacate. I'd love to eat those fresh in that country. Thank you for this interesting vid..
👍👍👍👍👍
Very beautiful video.
Amelia! Your hair looks great natural!
Loved the video
agree fuerte avos are the best. the grove looked great. 😊gotta give you my chocomole recipe...1ripe avocado, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup cocoa powder, 1 can unsweetened condensed milk in blender smooth.
Thanks, but we don’t do dairy. Think it would work with coconut cream?
@@AmeliaAndJP yes definitely
Does Javier also give tours to Spanish people, because we are Spanish but I have not been in my country Ecuador since 2019 and my husband is from Dominican Republic.
Claro! El es de Ecuador y habla español 👍
Gracias
Great Video,.
you are awesome guys!! Regards!
I never knew that Ilalo was so archeologically rich....
The last bunny I held on my lap…BIT ME!
Hummingbird saying hello at 12:02
They really like Marco!
Can't wait to VISIT in animal lover
Fuertes avocado is actually my favorite. This is amazing! Would love to stay here with my poodle on my visit. Wondering if a well behaved little toy poodle who fits in her carrying purse would be allowed to stay. Maybe you'll answer this question - but do they have internet here?
You need to ask them about their dog policy and internet speed.
Keep learning Aztec Amelia !
YumYum 😋
How delicious!
Yumiliciousness!
Were you concerned that they use grey water from the area for the avocados?
No. It’s a common practice to use grey water for irrigation to save water. Avocados are very thirsty.
I use gray water for irrigation in Sicily. There is a difference between gray water and black water, which is sewage. My gray water was from the kitchen only.
Google for info on using gray water - it’s so interesting and saves so many resources! It’s a great way to rescue water to use for the landscape and crops, like he does in the video, and it makes you more cognizant of the chemicals you use in the household as well.
Hello..Love your channel..do you have any advice for single women traveling alone? I could pack a back and leave for Ecuador right now.. but it's fear keeping me here. 😒
How far from Quito. ??THANKS for SHARING
About 5 miles or 8km.
J P You escaped the Killer geese and the Killer tornados of Kansas
Amelia check your hair for gray vs. white - after that Macaw visited the top of your head !
Haha!
Perhaps vultures like avocados? With their bald heads being messy with guacamole shouldn't be an issue for 'em
Why do they always have to spit on you?
That's part of the ritual. The alcohol signifies water, and the shock of it is supposed to cast out the bad energy.
@@AmeliaAndJP So... why not use a spray bottle - or a shot glass to dash it into your face?
Noy exactly J P ... it just tickles your bald head Ha ha
