She did an excellent job of making a hat. I had forgotten how. But now I am back doing some for a church project. Thanks so much for sharing it in such an easy manner. Fern williams
Thank you very much for your patient description of how to do this. I thought I remember ed what you taught, did it wrong, hat I spent hours on started unraveling! I about had a conniption. Struggled to put back on the 80 peg loom and now watched you again to finish it right. I will never miss your lesson again!!
This is my third hat I have ever knitted and this is the third different video I have watched to close my hat. I like your way best! Thanks for the video!
I know this comment is 5 years late, but I followed this to a T when I first started loom knitting and it helped me so much. I haven't loom knit in a while so I had to refer back to this specific video (despite there being so many out there, I wanted this video) so I could cast off my hat cause I had forgotten. With that said, thank you for making this video. Very simple, and easy to follow.
Thank you for the tip!!! Today is my fiest day knitting EVER thanks to my mother showing me this godsend of a tool to make knitting so much easier and now im about to tie off first hat and work on second one!!! You're the best!!!
I had a couple hats come unraveled with the way I was originally shown to finish these hats. Now I feel confident that won't be an issue anymore! Thank you!
I love ur video. Because you take ur time to explain what should be done and how its done. While knitting on a loom. I'm one of those people who have learning difficulties. So thank you. Xxoo
This is my favorite cast off video!!! I refer to it all of the time because I am a forgetful friend and need reminders on this part. Thank you for making this video!!
Thank you for this video. The hat came out amazing. I almost messed it up because I wasn't watching what you did once you removed that loop off the peg. And I accidently skipped one. But it came out great thank you thank you thank you! This was my first hat!
Great tutorial! If you suck at closing hats I would reccomend this but if your unsure of trying, Watch a few times and/or find a video that suits you better! Some ways work better than others for different people so don’t get upset if you make a mistake or such! (I’ve ruined more projects than I’ve completed AND it took me 2+ years to finish my hat)
My daughter showed me how to put the bottom half of a pen on your yarn. You use that to wrap around the post instead of your fingers works so cool. You slide it on the end of the yarn before you start with the project, narrow end pointing towards the pegs. Hope that made sence😊. You can see what I mean on instgram under gardentaffy😊 I put a picture....
What is the purpose of adding a separate long piece of yarn as opposed to using a piece of yarn you were already working with? Seems adding the extra yarn creates more knots and bulk. Just seen it done both ways.... Nice video!
Does this method work with adult and toddler hats too or is it specifically for newborn hats? Also should the string be longer for the adult hats or is 3ft the magic number?
I need to know how you finish off the hat when you get to where you have to be and also do you need patterns for these making hats and gloves and everything else
the wholethung came apart as I tried to tighten the last little hole on the top, sheesh now to figure out how to get te yarn back on the !oom. sheesh. great videovthough. Idid something wrong, but it looked right.
Hi I am new to loom knitting, not really familiar with the terminology, I have a doubt, at the beginning of the hat you did double fold, in the same way if I have to do at the end not for a hat like a little scarf or blanket how do i do. Thank you.
The string fell out and it was the same as before but I tied a string around the hole and and knotted it and i closed the hat and now I have a pompom on the top of my hat 😛
Loom Knitters (my loom knitting process is below **), I need help!!! I have made two beautiful scarves on my round plastic knitting looms. They turned out beautifully I however now, need some additional instruction. On a new scarf I am in the process of making (I am only 2 rows from the end!), I realized that I accidentally (maybe 10 rows ago) added 2 extra rows to one of my colored stripes. That throws off my whole pattern. Someone PLEASE, please tell me there is a way to remove my project from the loom. Pull out all of the rows until I reach and have removed down past my two extra rows and then am able to reattach the project to the loom pegs and continue on knitting as before. **My process was to "E Wrap" till I have three wraps on each peg, then I lift the bottom wrap up and over the top, leaving two wraps on each peg. Once there, I again E Wrap on all pegs, again pulling the bottom loop up and over the tops. I do this again and again, until I have a hat or scarf. That is the pattern I used. I am hoping beyond hope there is a way to be able to pull all my wraps off until I am at the extra knitted rows. Pull them off, then place my piece back on the loom and continue on. Am I dreaming or can this be done? A how-to video, or even series of pics would help me if there is. But, a description would be great as well. Anything that would help me. Thank you.
I was doing a craft kit with very unclear instructions, it didnt tell me how to finish the project, too bad this didnt come in my recommended earlier cause I tried doing it myself and now i have to start all over ;-;
This seems unnecessarily complicated. I just take a long piece of yarn, put it through the eye of a big needle, and pass the needle through each loop. This takes about a quarter of the time then doing it the way you just did it.
Sorry but the quality is somehow bad that I can’t see what you are doing. I am visual, so talking doesn’t help at all- but I completed my hat. Thank you! Keep doing good.
I've done multiple hats but every time I forget how to finish it. Thank you so much!
You bet. 👍🏼
Same
Me too!!
Me as well
She did an excellent job of making a hat. I had forgotten how. But now I am back doing some for a church project. Thanks so much for sharing it in such an easy manner. Fern williams

How can we help you?
Thank you sharing.
How many pegs loom are you using here?
I'm new to looming. I'm using a 14 loom and I'm using 8 ply wool. It seems loose, not tight like yours... How do I know what ply to use please 🙏
First time of seeing this type of knitting, though I am still new to crocheting, please can you send me a link as a beginner.?
Hi I am new to loom knitting, not really familiar with the terminology, I have a doubt, at the beginning of the hat you did double fold, in the same way if I have to do at the end not for a hat like a little scarf or blanket how do i do.
Thank you.
This video is sooo helpful
yes very helpful. My ant teacher me how to do one in the summer.I for got.
+Megan Streich Thank you. Have lots of fun making your hat.
But thanks for first video It taught me how to do it 😛
Perfect! Thank you
Question.... What do you do when you get creases in your work? I've made several hats and they all come out that way
Not sure what you mean. I would love to help you.
When working with thicker wool need a longer length
Just curious...how did you get the thick brim on your hat? Did you do it with the loom? I love that look!
Vicki Goodman she has another video on how to make the brim, it's actually super easy!
Watch this - ruclips.net/video/GMXYngo2lT0/видео.html
It will teach you how to make a brim on the hat.
The brim looks nice but also helps keep your ears warm. I make loom hats for a church project and always make them with a brim.
Thank you 👍👍👍👍
I just use a darning needle to take the loops off the loom. It's faster and easier.
Where’d you get that fancy pick?
The string fell out and it was the same as before but I tied a string around the hole and and knotted it and i closed the hat and now I have a pompom on the top of my hat 😛
;-; my string is slipping off my hook and it's frustrating me
sooooo simple thx!

Does it matter what type of yarn you use I always feel my hats are really thin. I do use this same method
Old Comment, But you can always use more than one skein of yarn to make a thicker hat.
You can use multiple strands to make a thicker end product.
Thank you
I was doing a craft kit with very unclear instructions, it didnt tell me how to finish the project, too bad this didnt come in my recommended earlier cause I tried doing it myself and now i have to start all over ;-;
My hats wont cinch completely at the top. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Not really sure. We would love to help you.
When I pulled out the “long” piece, the entire piece came out...it didn’t tie off the hat...what did I do wrong?? So sad :(
Did you grab both ends of the long piece before you pulled? You've got to pull both together or else it'll just slip out of all your stitches :)
This seems unnecessarily complicated. I just take a long piece of yarn, put it through the eye of a big needle, and pass the needle through each loop. This takes about a quarter of the time then doing it the way you just did it.

How can I help?
Help!!!! I don't have 3 strings!!! Just the 2 that are together !!!
Thanks!!
Ellen Ladwig i
I only have one string in the middle "set". Why do you have 2?
It makes a thicker finished project.
I’m using thick yarn and having two strands did not work
How long did you do it
As long as you want your hat to be.
Thx
