Let’s not forget that her mother also pulled her out of school very early and convinced her and everyone else that she would forever have the mind of a 7-year-old child. Only bought her childlike clothes, had her watching disney movies, kept her from making close friends, etc.. Meanwhile she’s actually a woman in her early 20s with the wants and urges of anyone else that age… feeling that natural desire for independence but living as a disabled little girl. I really can’t imagine what that must do to a person’s mind. So considering that on top of the horrific medical/physical abuse, it’s not shocking to me that everything ended so horrifically. And because she was so isolated for such a long time, I’m not surprised that she’s relishing in all the attention or that she was so eager to jump into a relationship. Or that her behavior is “cringey”. She’s living in the real world for the first time and she’s in her 30s like damn. I wish her the best and I really can’t judge her because I have no idea what it is like to go through what she went through. Honestly I don’t think this is as “cult-like” as a lot of people seem to believe. We as a people are clowns and a lot of this is just meme-culture/stan-culture clownery. In a couple weeks, the majority of the internet will be onto the next thing. If we didn’t already know about her from the documentaries and the Joey king movie, she wouldn’t be getting this much attention.
10:36 it IS insane cuz i was locked up with her for 5 years of our time. I got literally the same.amount of time for 1st degree assault. She is gonna play this as much as she can for as long as she can. Her story is sad but so are a lot of other girls stories, and a lot are worse. So if youre gonna romanticize her u ought to look into what the life of someone who made a mistake did time and got out where they're then expected to make a new life out of nothing, is REALLY like. I love that u pointed out shes just another person who got released from prison. She played the game WITH her mom, and now shes still playing the game. It IS fascinating to watch as someoke who saw her every day at rec or chow for 5 years...
She wasn’t in a “really unfortunate situation”, she endured absolutely HORRENDOUS childhood abuse. This whole situation blew up due to an in-depth piece from buzzfeed (when it was a whole thing) and led to was major news coverage, and not just tge critically acclaimed series The Act on Hulu, but another critically lauded HBO film and that doesn’t include all the random true crime shit OR the deluge of RUclips essays over the years. Babe y’all really did not do enough research on this.
People really are going strong in one of two extreme directions - either romanticizing and infantilizing her, treating her as a celebrity, and getting super parasocial, or going around diagnosing her with armchair narcissism, labelling her as a master manipulator, dismissing the abuse she experienced, and ripping into her and her husband. Frankly I'd like to see her away from the public eye and living a private life outside of occasional advocacy work
I just wanna know why people thought telling her to get a TikTok was a good idea?? This woman has been through SO MUCH trauma not just from what her abuser did but also being in jail for the past, what 10 years? The last thing she needs it’s to be thrown right into the world of social media.
While one part of me feels bad for her because of her childhood, I also do feel that society is obsessing way too much on her. Like okay, she served her time, she’s out now….lets leave her alone and allow her to live a somewhat normal life.
Thats what im sayinn if anything itd be best for her to stay out the public eye. Ive heard about people waiting for her to go into her "bad bitch era" and talking about "she should vape to get that teenage expirence she never got"
i never heard anything about her until the internet started hyping her tf up, i don't really get it. like you said, people get out of prison every single day...
maybe in america but like i said i never heard anything abt her not from other people, not on the news or online until now but regardless the cult following is weird and i dont get it @@ronni62
My 2 faves together!? Hell yea😊 i agree, her being a woman of no color is definitely helping her. There are plenty of women released from prison who don't get this attention and or treatment
When I saw comments say that somebody needs to introduce Gypsy to vapes so that she can have the “teen experience” she missed out on, I knew this whole situation was unserious and just bandwagon hysteria because WHAT
Agreed. Plus the idea of vapes being a universal "teen experience" is inaccurate. Sure, a lot of teens do it, but a lot of young adults do as well. And on the flip side, a lot of teens and young adults *don't* do it. Either way, given it's addictive qualities and ability to be a gateway to worse drugs, vapes are not a positive thing to introduce anyone to.... especially someone that just got out of prison. 😭
I think Gen Z in particular is so worn down from the constant negativity of the world that seeing someone overcome something so traumatic feels like a win and inspires hope. It’s especially meaningful to those who endured parental abuse, even if it’s different. In a way, she signifies that in a world where everyone lets you down, you still have the ability to make a change. Is it incredibly messed up that this is the story people are latching on to? Yeah, absolutely. But is it understandable given the current climate of the world? I think so. I would love to see the trend of glorifying crime go away in favor of healthier forms standing up to oppression, but they’re not always as flashy as things like matricide.
I honestly don't get how gen z can see her planning a murder as inspirational. Everything she went through was terrible and she deserved none of it but it glorifies killing in a way that isn't right. Why are we making a killer a celebrity. Tons of children who come from abused homes don't kill their parents. We can feel for her but we can also acknowledge she did a terrible thing. The situation isn't black and white.
@@yellow_pikminI did hence why I even am sharing my opinion but it looks like you clearly didn't because you did not see in her documentary interview where she said she doesn't consider herself to be a killer because she didn't do the act but she literally is a killer because she is the one who orchestrated it t all and who planned it If people cared enough to actually look at all the evidence and examine the case she isn't completely innocent she is a victim but she's also a criminal
That’s a great point. Two of my three siblings are Gen Z ( I’m an 80s millennial), and this perspective would definitely resonate with them. It’s why I hate when we as millennials dump on Gen Z. I don’t feel like we put in enough effort to understand you all, and instead we make trauma dumping on your already trauma taxed generation a sport-like all of our timelines aren’t already the embers burning the flames of hell. Actually finding pearls of joy on this spinning 3rd rock from the sun is a healthy way to operate in the midst of this planetary chaos. I remember a world before social media, when our TVs would go off and we COULD disconnect. If you were born after 2000, you know nothing of that. All that to say, you all are doing the best you can in a place in time that did NOTHING to prepare for your futures.
I hate how all these big accounts on Twitter 'pop crave, pop base” are reporting everything she's doing, they are one tweet anyway to release her poop schedule
Not saying what Gypsy has done is okay, but I understand why she did what she did. I do think most Gen-Z does take everything as a joke and Gen-Alpha’s following suit! Great video Rumi and Asante! Really funny and intriguing 👏🏾!
Because Gen Z is the main user of tiktok, Millennial are strongly against murder so many hate her, and as a person who works with 14 year Olds (Gen Alpha) they hate her aswell, and some say "We're one together..." but that's a weird kid who said that
Maybe you should do a video on how ppl feel entitled to criticize the partner (often the look) of their fav influencer/star, it's really weird and sometimes violent
You know, I know a lot of wheelchair users don’t like the term “wheelchair bound”, because it implies being stuck or trapped when their wheelchair actually gives them freedom and mobility that they wouldn’t otherwise have. But I feel like in this context, it’s fitting, because she legitimately did not need it. She *was* being bound to lessened mobility, as she’s always had functional legs.
I feel like a lot of her attention comes from sympathy. She was this young, healthy girl convinced that she was sick by the person who is supposed to care the most about her. Of course there is racial bias + the numerous drama series that have been made on the Gypsy Rose situation. I am happy she is living her life, that she IS NOT glorifying what she did, and is overall (so far) being realistic and normal. The entire situation is insane and I am happy she is finally getting to live HER TRUTH -- I hope she can take the opportunity to shine a light on other former convicts who had to __ in order to escape a seemingly never ending tunnel of despair. She's got the platform now, and it would be amazing to see her talk about the hispanic woman who __ her assaulter -- there are many racial biases and disparities. More than anything I hope her story does not make weirdos out there commit __ because they see this life that GR now has. I wish her the best and I hope she spreads positivity.
i feel like part of her positive reception compared to other cases mentioned in comments, she wasn’t escaping an abusive partner, she was escaping an abusive parent. a recent point of discussion among gen z, myself and my close circles included are our relationships with our parents and parenting in general. you see it a lot on all platforms, people talking about how they had toxic and abusive parents, people trying to raise their kids differently, people calling out content creators and people for being bad parents and etc. parenting and the effects of children with bad parents vs good parents have been a hot topic among gen z and millennials as of recent years so the reason why a lot of people are able to sympathize with her in a few ways is maybe not as extreme as she went through but they see traits of their own story in hers. even i myself can say i find similarities with her story in comparison to mine and my mom’s relationship, granted mine on the opposite spectrum while being extremely ill but having a medically negligent mother to the point of leading to more extreme complications. there’s a strong dislike and distancing and disconnect from our parents when you look among gen z and millennials. many see her story as a sort of “win” and underdog story where she finally was able to escape her abusive parent and is now getting a chance at life. and the reason why they are making bucket lists and such is again they connect with her and when you find a connection with someone you start seeking more ways to bond and connect with them. there’s a few more i could go on about but that’s the basic gist of how ive perceived it and ive had friends and others on tiktok make a similar point
Like omg justice for Nick she promised if he did it they would be together forever and to someone with autism he couldn’t see anything beyond loving her but she gets to be free and married and he has to be lonely in jail for the rest of his life.I would like to hear more of nicks story because I don’t think it’s fair
Gypsy is like the Mockingjay for abuse survivors or even those currently in abusive situations. I think she is like a symbol of inspiring some kind of hope even if her story consisted of drastic actions.
My 16 year old granddaughter mentioned her to me a few weeks ago, and I looked at her like, why do you care about that girl who killed her mother? And how do you know about her? 😮 Her mother was crazy though.
I remember a similar thing happening with Jeremy Meeks! He became a model and moved in with the founder of Topshop’s daughter (relationship ended soon after)
I love gysey rose she’s a sweetheart and she didn’t deserve to be in prison her mother was an evil psychopath who didn’t love her daughter at all by abusing her for years! Gysey just needed therapy!
the last ex-con I remember getting a lot of media attention was Jeremy Meeks aka “prison bae” - but once again, he was pretty privileged because he has lighter skin and he is conventionally attractive, which is what allowed him to get modeling deals and see success once he was released. and he wasn’t even a victim either lol he did some real crimes
I remember watching the clip of them getting their new home that was made for gypsy's "disabilities" and I remember my mom talking about how sad it was that she was so ill..so weird how things have all came to light..
One thing I will say is that her story is quite interesting. What I appreciate about her social media is that she’s promoting mental health awareness now because of it serious implications on the life’s of others. Mental health can make or break someone’s life and hurt others and her case really showed that.
This is my first time seeing Asante and I already love his vibe especially with yours! You two made this video amazing. I personally am glad to see Gypsy finally be free to live her life the way she’s always wanted to. I don’t follow her but am very familiar with her story. I miss your Euphoria takes sooo much 🥺hoping maybe we can get your thoughts on how we’re going to wrap this show up being that the cast is so split now and how these storylines can be filled in because I really don’t see Euphoria making it to season 5 or even season 4 😭
Personally as someone who was abused similarly... this is why I'll never tell my story publicly. People never care about the abuse when it's happening. They turn a blind eye because it's too much of an inconvenience to their own lives. The moment that the person being abused is out of their situation people only then will sympathize and show support conditionally... but the truth is its not even that. It's entertainment. Sure it might not be enjoyable in the same way... but humans just have this weird fascination with bad things as long as it's the "right" kind of bad. Gypsies story has a "happy ending" that was already capitalized on by media outlets. People see this as nothing more than a catch up similarly to reality TV. Hopefully gypsy realizes this and doesn't let it go to her head. The moment she slips up one bit people will change their emotions in a switch of a second. Its really disgusting behavior and I have no idea why this is normalized.
I definitely think people romanticise her story, it’s not ‘slay’ that she had to murder her abuser because she had no other way out,it’s tragic.Gypsys story is one of tragedy yet people are trying to twist it into this girlboss slay queen story.
I love how you cover topics about Gen Z, like looking at how we do both good and bad things, the way that we are lol. Also, i can understand why people who find her story so interesting and her personality captivating who would want to follow her and give her that fame. I just hope she gets to have a decent chance at life after all the abuse tbh. I don’t care if she’s famous or not but I do appreciate her story being out for the public to witness. I’ll admit, it’s quite interesting, educational, and entertaining (though the ethics of someone else’s trauma being a form of entertainment… that’s certainly a debatable topic).
I’ve done a bit of research & I feel deeply for her and things of that nature, but the obsession is really perplexing. I don’t think I like it, idk 😵💫💆🏾♂️
I think the biggest thing that has caused Gypsy to be so in the public is simply because of her movie with Joey King was so popular. That movie made her story much more publicized so now to see the real person behind the story so it's more sensationalized
I feel bad for when for when the inevitable chew whole and then spit out thing will happen. Like she's the new shinny thing now, and people will move on really suddenly, and I'm afraid of how bad this will be for her.
I honestly feel really sorry for her, she's been through a lot, and while he actions are completely justified in my view, Society tends to romanticise a lot of other convicted criminals who were definitely not justified in their actions like Bundy, Dahmer and so many more. It's honestly disgusting. As someone who works in the justice system (in the UK for clarification) I see a lot of shit come through everyday at court and can't imagine it being revelled as celebrity cases.
The success and timeing of The Act gave a lot of un expected attention on her too. Does gen Z even remember when this happened? I barely remembered as a millennial
Edit: she was not convicted, she took a plea deal. Had she gone to trial, there would've been discovery -- she probably would've ended up with life, no parole.
And he has SUCH a good theory, connecting Trump’s presidency to how our generation reacts to serious things on the internet nowadays. I never even thought about that.
I feel so bad for this girl because she’s going to fall and she’s gonna fall hard you think she’s had a hard life before this happened. I hope she’s not coming up for round two.
at first i was like nah people dont mean to be disrespectful but now people are seeming abit fake. if you truly liked gypsy you wouldnt talk shit ab her husband keep it to yourself, sounds crazy but i think some people only like her bc other people do or for clout and they dont really gaf ab what shes been through and her story
reminds me of the "hide yo kids, hide yo wife" guy, and people made that news clip into songs and memed it like, lets not downplay this serious issue into just a big internet joke
I think it’s just weird overall. Good for her for getting out of the horrific situations, but her being a celebrity now is really strange to me. Anyway, love your videos, idk if I’m the only one that feels like this but is there any way you could change the background music, or idk what it is but it’s like every minute there’s a “ding” sound and it kinda drives me crazy 😅
I think the obsession is because the case is sooooo weird . And gypsy has been trained to work an audience by her mother . She is definitely going after the attention full force . And the creep factor that her husband looks like her mom 👀👀
I’m so sick and tired of ppl defending this sick murderer. She was 19 when she started talking about killing her mother, discussed it for YEARS! 24 during the murder. She could have told her father or neighbor she spoke to regularly or asked her boyfriend to tell the police but instead she plotted dee murder for 4 years cuz she’s sick in the head (like the ppl defending her). Then murdered her at 24 a full grown adult she could have lived in her own, with her dad or boyfriend. She wasn’t some abused child doing what she needed to survive she was a grown woman who plotted a murder and didn’t want to get her hands dirty and cuz she’s a woman we glorify her. My partner was a man abused physically by both his parents, if he murdered them you would not be glorifying or praising him .
why is anyone defending her?it's like lovely peaches and all the stuff she said, people completely glossed over it,it was alleged peaches hurt cora, that was horrible to hear but people were like:''the music's fire tho'' who cares about the music?!
Can we talk about how she only got 7 years? I understand that’s she’s been through trauma but, like at the same time she murdered a human being, even though, her mother was horrible, she was a human being with a mental illness. I don’t want to victim blame her but, she had chances to get out of her situation with her mother. (ex: Running away with that guy, she could have reached authorities. When she used the internet, she couldn’t reach out to anyone? Not even authorizes? Or even when the cps officers were talking to her in a different room, she couldn’t tell them what was going on?) I’m not saying it’s her fault but she had opportunities. Which leads me to believe she manipulated Nick into killing her mother for revenge. She knew Nick had fantasies about murder, she knew that he was down for saving her, she planned & executed the murder. Not only that but she tried to get away with it when detectives interviewed her. It all sounds to me that she needed more time, because if we’re being trauma and abuse into cases & sentences, then I guess other abused murders should only have 7 years. People with drug violations have gotten 15+.
I feel like it's because, even though she wasnt super young when the story hit, she looked it so people latched on and thought they could have been a better caregiver. Then the films came out and the younger generations latched onto them. I hope she does well but even she has said she was responsible for a murder and regrets it vecause she loved her, just not what she was doing to her. She wished she'd have just told the truth so her mom would be in jail rather than her ex. I think it'll die down and i hope it does because i feel like shes in this bubble that may not allow her to grow otherwise and do wish her the best
i think you make a lot of good points, but i feel like the media attention before gypsy did what he did might have helped her establish a name somewhat before the unaliving and then everything else after, but i could be wrong.

I just hope the internet doesn’t build her up just to tear her down. The internet does that a lot.
they are... they will
@@vsboardza They have already started on TikTok.
They are already doing that big time especially on Tiktok not sure about Instagram I don't use it .
They tearing her down big time now!
Frankly I'd like to see her away from the public eye and living a private life outside of occasional advocacy work
Then there’s ppl like me who doesn’t care enough either way and she just exists. lol
@@boricua584probably the most reasonable take tbh 😂
@@boricua584 I feel like this should be how everyone feels too. Cos really why do ppl care so much😭 it’s ridiculous
"From the start"
Gurl it's been getting weird. I'm just surprised people are picking up on it now.
I just wanna know why people thought telling her to get a TikTok was a good idea?? This woman has been through SO MUCH trauma not just from what her abuser did but also being in jail for the past, what 10 years? The last thing she needs it’s to be thrown right into the world of social media.
Exactly, they would "cancel" her so fast forgetting that shes been in prison for a LONG time and doesnt really know anything about social media
@@AwfulFlower I’m not to up to date with it but I think people have already started to turn on her

@@primarinegaming6761 I’ve seen a few videos getting upset at an interview she did…
While one part of me feels bad for her because of her childhood, I also do feel that society is obsessing way too much on her.
Okaaaay! We love a collab. The influenc-ification of Gyspy is veryyy strange! Hopefully she handles all of this well
i never heard anything about her until the internet started hyping her tf up, i don't really get it. like you said, people get out of prison every single day...
well people are hyping her up cuz her case is popular and there’s a show about it so obviously there’s gonna be fans
maybe in america but like i said i never heard anything abt her not from other people, not on the news or online until now but regardless the cult following is weird and i dont get it @@ronni62
I knew it!! You and Asante are life 🩷🩷
It was honestly weird from the start
My 2 faves together!? Hell yea😊 i agree, her being a woman of no color is definitely helping her. There are plenty of women released from prison who don't get this attention and or treatment
When I saw comments say that somebody needs to introduce Gypsy to vapes so that she can have the “teen experience” she missed out on, I knew this whole situation was unserious and just bandwagon hysteria because WHAT
Also I think she had a nicotine addiction in prison, and wtf is wrong with people
WHAT THE HELLLL
@@AwfulFlower atp I’m not even surprised someone said that
Gen Z r such freaks. Not in a good way, at all.
I think so. I would love to see the trend of glorifying crime go away in favor of healthier forms standing up to oppression, but they’re not always as flashy as things like matricide.
excellent insight. I didn't think of it this way before
I honestly don't get how gen z can see her planning a murder as inspirational.
@@yellow_pikminI did hence why I even am sharing my opinion but it looks like you clearly didn't because you did not see in her documentary interview where she said she doesn't consider herself to be a killer because she didn't do the act but she literally is a killer because she is the one who orchestrated it t all and who planned it
If people cared enough to actually look at all the evidence and examine the case she isn't completely innocent she is a victim but she's also a criminal
@@anonloki3 Well said.
She kinda ate defending her husband tho I won't lieee
she don't play about that man fr she gets DOWNNN

I hate how all these big accounts on Twitter 'pop crave, pop base” are reporting everything she's doing, they are one tweet anyway to release her poop schedule
People with mental shortcomings tend to flock together
Not saying what Gypsy has done is okay, but I understand why she did what she did. I do think most Gen-Z does take everything as a joke and Gen-Alpha’s following suit! Great video Rumi and Asante! Really funny and intriguing 👏🏾!
Why do people assume its only Gen Z partaking in this behavior?
Because Gen Z is the main user of tiktok, Millennial are strongly against murder so many hate her, and as a person who works with 14 year Olds (Gen Alpha) they hate her aswell, and some say "We're one together..." but that's a weird kid who said that
calling her “Gyp Gyp” took me DOWN 🤣🤣🤣
All i saw were gypsy rose edits from the beginning and I thought it was insane💀
At 1:29 you really missed the chance to say she went form ex-con to icon 😭
The collab? Impeccable. Love it.
Felt very podcast

I wouldn’t want all that attention on me if i was her considering the trauma
Thats what ive been saying, im not saying this FOR gypsy but youd think she would just wanna be left alone.
Gypsy is like the Mockingjay for abuse survivors or even those currently in abusive situations. I think she is like a symbol of inspiring some kind of hope even if her story consisted of drastic actions.
Don't you ever bring Hunger Games into this.

I remember a similar thing happening with Jeremy Meeks! He became a model and moved in with the founder of Topshop’s daughter (relationship ended soon after)
This world is so damn Hell bound
yessss I love your upload!! but no the release of gypsy from prison is so unserious

Married and had a baby by a whole billionaire too 😅
No literalyyyyy, I thought I was the only one who thought this was weird.
I remember watching the clip of them getting their new home that was made for gypsy's "disabilities" and I remember my mom talking about how sad it was that she was so ill..so weird how things have all came to light..
omg yesss! king Asante i was so excited
One thing I will say is that her story is quite interesting. What I appreciate about her social media is that she’s promoting mental health awareness now because of it serious implications on the life’s of others. Mental health can make or break someone’s life and hurt others and her case really showed that.
OMG I LOVE BOTH OF U SO MUCH I DIDN'T EXPECT THIS COLLAB AT ALLLL 😭😭😭😭
As much as an understand that Dee Dee was a sick woman I hate how Gypsy is free. She basically got away with murder.
one thing about gen z, is that we will root for the underdog & lifestyles that go against common norms
People really need to leave her alone.
Okay but you cannot deny that the TEA is good.
Thats not tea thats abuse
Love u two together
I love this collab I hope y’all collab more in the future !!!!!!
Honestly Gypsy and her husband are one of the most wholesome celebrity couples out there.
I’m 17 so I didn’t even know about her until she was released
I feel bad for when for when the inevitable chew whole and then spit out thing will happen. Like she's the new shinny thing now, and people will move on really suddenly, and I'm afraid of how bad this will be for her.
I honestly feel really sorry for her, she's been through a lot, and while he actions are completely justified in my view, Society tends to romanticise a lot of other convicted criminals who were definitely not justified in their actions like Bundy, Dahmer and so many more. It's honestly disgusting.
As someone who works in the justice system (in the UK for clarification) I see a lot of shit come through everyday at court and can't imagine it being revelled as celebrity cases.
absolutely a missed opportunity to say Gypsy went from ex con to icon
The success and timeing of The Act gave a lot of un expected attention on her too. Does gen Z even remember when this happened? I barely remembered as a millennial
Edit: she was not convicted, she took a plea deal. Had she gone to trial, there would've been discovery -- she probably would've ended up with life, no parole.

at first i was like nah people dont mean to be disrespectful but now people are seeming abit fake. if you truly liked gypsy you wouldnt talk shit ab her husband keep it to yourself, sounds crazy but i think some people only like her bc other people do or for clout and they dont really gaf ab what shes been through and her story
reminds me of the "hide yo kids, hide yo wife" guy, and people made that news clip into songs and memed it like, lets not downplay this serious issue into just a big internet joke
It’s millennials too, that are into her

i have a feeling they are gonna forget all about it just like the lil tay situation.
y'all are too cute, I smiled the whole time:)
OMG! I THOUGHT NO BODY WOULD TALK ABT THIS THEY R OBSESSED,BUT I DO SYMPATHISE WITH HER BCZ SHE HAS BEEN THROU ALOT 😭
Omg you guys are too cute together..love it
This is not fair!lol that many?!over some crazy shit.
Encapsulates. Encaptures is not a word.
She’s a victim but, let’s not forget about what her involvement was. This is my personal opinion, this isn’t meant to offend anyone.
I never got the hype on why she’s so popular tbh and I’m gen z so is there something I’m missing or..? 😭
The urge to dm and let her know that I’m her neighbor and try to befriend her is SO strong
i think you make a lot of good points, but i feel like the media attention before gypsy did what he did might have helped her establish a name somewhat before the unaliving and then everything else after, but i could be wrong.
