A while since I looked at YT ....but came straight across to your channel Joao ....and this great cover ..... regards and best wishes for the new year .....Kev
Hey Kevin, how are you? The last time we talked you were going to have some surgery and then you went awol. I was worried, mate. Glad to hear from you again. This is my other channel where, once in a while, I dump stuff other than Roy Harper, .
Thanks Chris. I learned this from LiteGuage too. In fact I had never heard this one before. My version is only slightly different because I'm using the 12-string.
Joao, this is just fabulous - faultless! I'm familiar with the Jansch, Briggs and electricragtime versions of this song, but I like yours the best. I've been a Bert Jansch fan since the mid-60's and just love this brand of folk/blues so I congratulate you on having nailed it perfectly!
@@AnotherBadSpeech You're more than welcome. Last time I heard from Kev (electricragtime) he wasn't in the best of health so hopefully things have improved. I would very much like to keep in touch with you and see how your career progresses (if indeed your main occupation is music.) If there's any justice at all in this world, you'll have made your first £10 million by this time next year! Very best wishes and good luck from Ian.
Yes, I know Kev was going to have a triple bipass, but then I lost contact - I wonder if he did well. I don't have a career - LOL - I am just a hobby strummer. I have this "BadSpeech" channel dedicated to Roy Harper. It's a big project of which I am quite proud. "AnotherBadSpeech" is a side-channel where I dump other stuff every now and then. Anyway, thanks for your support. João
Ha, you caught me. I doubt I will do another Bert Jansch version - Bert is in another league really, I can't play like him, not in this lifetime. This is one of his easiest songs, I think, and I was under its spell for a few months :)
Hey Joao.... I hadn't realised that you had another channel ....you should have pointed me at this wonderful cover mi amigo.... anyway I have to subscribe now so that I don't miss any of your other (non-harper) covers ....although I love the Jansch version ...I still like the original Anne Briggs version the best....I hope you are gonna do some other Jansch covers
always loved this one Bert's way... Happy birthday Bert!!!! Can you tell me what the voicing looks like during the "woe is me.... I wanna die" section of this tune? I've been playing it to Nicola, but just wondering what you're doing Joao... Thanks!
The only Bert version I know is one I have on a compilation album and I believe is the the one on Nicola. The chord on that part is 05400x (don't pick the 1st string)
Hi, your version is amazing. I would like to know the tuning. Your capo is on 3 and there is a great version by Old Picker that has the capo on the 2nd fret. I have been working on this for a while with a transcription, or tab, that seems off to me. Is there a site where I can get the correct tab, or at least like your version ? Thanks again, and just a beautiful rendition. Rob
Thank you so much. I know that Bert Jansch played this on a 12 string tuned to DADGAD. The capo on the 3rd fret may not be according to the original version since I probably put it there to suit my voice better. I learned the song from watching other people play it on RUclips and I may have dropped a couple of personal options that sounded better to me. It's quite simple once you tune to DADGAD. Good luck with it.
I appreciate the reply, I will continue working on these songs. Truly great. About 15 years ago I attempted Bert Jansch's Blackwaterside on stage and did somewhat ok with a screw up in the middle, but I finished it. Anyway I just started playing again every day and am getting to a new level maybe from mediocre to OK. Thanks again, I have to listen to your other stuff, Rob

Very nice playing. Well done.
Thanks mate
Great version my friend. I can learn this from you - thanks!
I'm glad you like it. Cheers!
yay! if you are going do other things than our Roy then i think .Bert's a great choice...I learned this from Liteguage!! Great minds...

Wow, that's very kind of you. This was totally based on the Jansch version. I know electricragtime, too. Haven't heard from him in a long time....

Nice one :))
This is really beautiful - thank you, I can learn it from this. Is the original Bert version on a 12 string as well?
Thanks. Yes, I believe Bert's original is on a 12 string

Nottamun town is an easy-ish one to do ...its in dadgad also
Thanks
Beautiful .. thank you and can you give me the chords? Is it an open tuning?
Thank you. It's in DADGAD tuning. It has only a few chords and I think you will be able to spot them. Please message me if you have trouble.

If you found your way around Blackwaterside, I am sure this one is going to be easy :)
did you hear coffescup version
I hadn't but I've checked it now. Amazing voice. The version is very different from the original.
