It also used to bug me but I've overcome it. Just sit by a campfire and look at the color of the flames : they are more yellowish than reddish. Same with a lighter flame. Thinking about it, associating fire to red seems to be a misconception...
This game has pretty much everything I like. Card drafting, big chunky dice, lots of roads to victory, and a little player interaction depending on the mix of artifacts and familiars.
This is such a good explanation of the game. I was kind of fumbling over the rules, and the games manual has too much information lol. I just put this video on and we were up and running with everyone knowing what to do. Thanks a lot!
Thank you Rodney. I saw this game long ago and wanted to learn how to play, but never had a chance to find a good guide and then I forgotten about it. This video brought back the question and gave the answer.
Thanks a lot, Rodney! I know Seasons for years now but I haven't played for 4 years now. I wanted just to remind the rules and with your video, everything is back and clear now :) ! Very nicely explained! Thanks a lot!
It seems that everyone I have talked to about this game had overlooked it before playing. I too have this on my shelf, unplayed, and it is has been there for over a year. I'm not sure if it's the box or what, but everyone has stated that after playing Seasons, they regretted not playing it sooner.
I've just got into board game have bought Duel and Sequence and am thinking of getting this. Is there any way in this game to impede the other player from progressing to a winning position? Or is it more you both play isolated where it's irrelevant what the other person is doing and then at the end you add up the points?
Glad to see this older game featured. Is the 1st player token in the video included with the game? I don't believe my edition did. I believe the 1st expansion comes with a 1st player token. Though, it's cardboard and not wood.
+Mark Johnson Mark, I think you're right! I believe I added this to my set so long ago, I forgot that it wasn't actually included in the game. I'll add a note to the description of the video to mention this!
That's unusual. i don't remember you doing an instructional video for an "old" game (or a reprint of one) for quite some time. Not complaining at all though! Please do more of awesome old games! You're by far my favorite tabletop gaming channel. I'd love to see instructionals for games I love or are quite well liked by lots of people and I haven't had the chance to play yet.
I saw this box a few times now and then at my local store but I was never that interested in it until I saw your playthrough. Quite interesting gameplay. I think it's one I will eventually add to my collection. I don't think I have ever seen Dice Tower do this one, but I could be wrong (or I don't remember). I'm impressed so far.. now I just have to make a decision :D
+Steve Pruneau It's absolutely worth it. It's a real pretty game with some interesting mechanics, and it's simple to learn but trickier to master. If you own other games, Seasons does lend a certain uniqueness to its gameplay that will add some flavour to your game nights. It may not be the top favourite but no one in my gaming group would say no to it either.
This game looks really interesting! I would love to see a play though! I just found your channel about two weeks ago, and have since watched most of your videos. Thank you for what you do! Although now my wish list of games has gotten a lot longer...
I received Lords of Xidit, a game set in the same world as seasons, as a gift about a year ago and it's been a big hit. I've since learned of Seasons and have been curious about it. This video has now convinced me to get it! Thanks! Also, have you tried Lords of Xidit?
Hello there again. A question! About the cards with the gears on the bottom left… do I have to pay the amount I’ve paid to summon it, again? In order to use it again? Or I pay that amount once, and then I use it for free every time it’s my turn? And why should I turn it in order to show that I’ve used it? Since the turn finishes after the 4th player have played his turn? I mean it’s not a loooong turn so that we forget that i’ve used the card. Thank you again
I've never played Seasons and probably never will, but I enjoy watching you explain board games for the entertainment value. You're like a TV show. I gotta say tho, While after watching most of your reviews I feel like I could fully play the game if it ever happened. After watching this one, I still feel really lost? Is it just that the game is kinda of less intuitive or less like a normal game?
Hey Tala, thanks for tuning in even when the game isn't one you'd necessarily want to pick up! It's hard to say why a game may or may not click for a person. I've noticed that some games one person will find tricky, another will pick up quickly - and I don't think it's a matter of intelligence - just some things click quick than others I guess?
Great video, as always. Is there a way to get rid of cards? In your examle, you have 5 cards summoned and 2 cards in hand. but as I understand it, you will get at least 9 cards - the cards you set aside - and possibly more if you use the draw action. What am I missing?
@@WatchItPlayed 12:15 shows that the hypothetical player has 7 cards at the end. I was wondering how this can happen, since you get the 'starting' 9. Merry Christmas btw! Didn't mean to take you away from your celebrations.
@@StuffByBez Ah, I got you. No, there is no way to just burn cards - so you want to be careful of how many you draw, as you'll want to be playing the cards you gain.
I have a question about the order of using the dice power. If I have 7 energy in front of my board and I get a dice showing e.g. 2 air symbols, can I summon a card from my hand (if there is enough room for it) BEFORE I claim those air tokens (so i can make room for them) or I must claim them and discard 2 other tokens before I can do anything else?
+SamuelDivinium You must resolve all die actions before any others (except for transmutation, which you can choose to perform at any time during your turn).
+Watch It Played Wow then we played this part wrong the whole time! :( Thanks for clarifying it! We made few minor other mistakes too but figured out thanks to this video. Your videos are as helpful as ever! :)
I shot this awhile ago, so I don't recall from memory, but it's explained in the setup portion of the tutorial. It has to do with the numbers on the bottom of the cards.
It's the end of an era at Watch It Played. Seasons is finally here. Thank you Rodney! I've played it once at a local Game Expo in Ottawa (and lost terribly, cause I didn't know what I was doing during the drafting phase) but I really want to give it another try. Is there going to be a play through?
Phenomenal video as always ;). But I have to point out one thing - the cards are always discarded face down (as explained in the rulebook for the Enchanted Kingom expansion). Other players shouldn't see what you discard. ;)
We avoid introducing rules presented in expansions. I don't recall this being a rule in the base game, so it wouldn't have been brought up in this video.
I avoid trying to assess things like that for other people, as everyone has their own personal taste for interaction. here's a thread discussing it though: boardgamegeek.com/thread/1508071/interaction
As I understand it, some of the cards you play affect other players - & they can also play cards to counteract yours. I think that's as far as any interaction goes.
+Watch It Played Thanks for your replay! I love your show btw! In the manual says you "must" take the actions offered on the die and it doesn't refer to the transmutation circle like you did :'( But I think you're right! because in the manual also says "you can transmutate". As you "may". I think so!
+Watch It Played Ok! That changes a lot of things! I'm so glad to hear that. I was really worried with that rule. Thanks a lot! Keep doing awesome videos!

Fire red
Earth brown
Air clear
Water less clear
Æther invisible.
It really bothers me (much more than it should) that fire is yellow and air is red. I feel like they should've been swapped.
It is curious :)
Oh, I feel you. I thought the exact same thing and wondered why it bothered me so much. Happy to know I'm not the only one, lol.
I second that.
It also used to bug me but I've overcome it. Just sit by a campfire and look at the color of the flames : they are more yellowish than reddish. Same with a lighter flame. Thinking about it, associating fire to red seems to be a misconception...
@@eric.paquet Regardless, looking at the other pair, yellow makes way more intuitive sense for wind than red, so that would leave red for fire.
This was my very first card/board/dice game that got me into the industry! Still takes me back.
