Nice Eye! Thanks for sharing! You need to learn what a sauger actually looks like. You can look up some sauger YT videos done by Richard Gene or Rocky Drake catching them on the Tennessee river as an example. I just moved to NW Alabama and plan to start fishing for walleye and sauger on the river. I have been watching every YT video I can find to understand how and where they are being caught. Again thanks for sharing. I will add your video to my list for reference. Tight Lines! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🎣🎣😎

@davidmclaughlin5345 I’ve done quite a bit of research and still don’t see a definitive explanation one way or the other. I actually held onto this content at least a month while researching. Walleye have a white spot on the bottom of their tail. As you can see there is no white spot on the tail. I really think it’s likely a saugeye the more I research. Richard Gene and Rocky Drake put out some great content for sure. I’m glad my content is creating some engagement though! Thank you for watching and for the comment.

Did you take any photos of the fish?
I know the difference between all three species.
If there isn’t any white on the bottom edge of tail then it’s probably a Saugeye .
Sauger have very pronounced markings or bars and spots in their fins where walleyes do not.
Saugeye have dark coloration and spots in the webbing of their dorsal fin, as well as distinct streaks between the spines. They have a mix of both features that’s why they are a hybrid of the two species.
Walleye have no spots on their dorsal fin, and only indistinct streaks between the spines.
Sauger have distinct spots on their dorsal fin, and more than two rows of them. With vertical bars across their sides.
      Walleyes don’t have these bars.
      Hopes this explanation helps.
      👍🎣😎

I’ve got some stills I pulled from the video but none of them show the webbing of the dorsal fin. lol that was the one thing I didn’t do was flick those up.

I just pulled a screen shot of your fish on my PC when it was laying on the deck and it’s a walleye. There are several white markings on the lower fin tips including its tail. There are no bars or spots. I am very excited seeing this fish caught below Wilson Dam and cannot wait to start fishing for them. I would like to fish with you maybe someday. I have no experience fishing this river, but that’s going to change real soon. I just bought a new walleye boat (Lund Fisherman) and can’t wait to break it in on this river system. Again thanks for sharing. 👍🏻👍🏻🎣🎣😎

That was a Saugeye if you notice the white on the lower side of the fins. If I am not mistaken the dorsal fin was spotted as well indicating that is was a Saugeye as well my friend great catch !

@@JoelTuck-p8q thanks Joel! This catch has sparked some good discussion!! I too feel like it’s the crossbreed saugeye. Thanks for watching!!
