    Bought my first Daiwa (TTU100HSL) basically from watching your videos. I am up in Canada and baitcasters are not all that common, so I watched a bunch of your videos before spending the money. Mine was dry out of the box aswell, but I bought oil thanks to you mentioning it in your past videos. Since then I have bought 2 other Reels and 1 was dry also and the other was good, and it came with oil too. Maintence just ads a bit more fun to the hobby for me, keep up the informative videos!

    I oil the bearings with a silicon oil and grease the shaft with waterproof grease. I only buy new reels but used rods are easier to inspect and see defects. I have sold my reels but go the extra distance: I keep the og boxes and save the receipts. None of mine have ceramic bearings.

    I bought two Shimano 2015 Metanium DCs for $200 including shipping from Japan and sales tax. I sent them off to Shimano for servicing and they charged $43.50 per reel. Still way ahead of the new price. Yeah, they have some scrapes and chips, but so do reels I bought new after 3 months of use.

    A couple years ago I bought a penn battle 2 spinning reel on eBay. The description was a little vague but I took a chance on it. It arrived so crusted with salt it was crunchy when reeling. I was able to get some parts and fix it up and the seller was cool about it and refunded me the cost of those parts but the reel has never been fully smooth although it certainly works. Going forward I would probably take a pass on anything that doesn't have a very detailed description of the condition.

    Thanks Debo and greetings from Northern Michigan. Indeed , some of new Daiwas come dry out of box . I gotta say though that after adding some oil to the spool bearings they're as smooth as butter . In fact and on a side note , the Steez HLC - a reel I was about to get rid of due to wild nature horrid backlashes is now one of my preferred , with the Jackall Raico it flies 2 miles NO BACKLASH. I LITERALLY CAST IT HUNDREDS OF TIMES WITH NO BACKLASH . BREAKS ON 12 . THE LURE IS 1.3 ounce . I'm keeping the Steez , MB madbull and raico setup permanently 😂. Oh , the ANTARES dcs and Excense DC are still my favorite though

    The used market is where I look for reels I want to try that are above my budget. Example: I picked up a used curado 150 mgl for $142. The reel had one blemish and functions awesome. Now I know the curado is a reel worth saving for and am looking forward to buying a new one. ….. one of my first baitcasters made a sound like that after the drag slipped. After the drag slipped, any time I reeled the reel sounded just like your daiwa.

    I'm to the point where I won't buy new rods unless they have crazy good deals. Every used rod I buy at ALF is either very slightly used, or still in packaging. I've only bought two reels from them and they were both perfectly fine as well. I am not a penny pincher, but if I can buy basically brand new rods for up tp 40% off sometimes I am down.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  10 месяцев назад

      Totally agree, I'm down to get good stuff at a better price. Even if it's "slightly" used. I'm going to use it anyway so it's not going to stay NEW lol

    I have a lot of rods and reels, most of them won on eBay auctions over the past 20 years. I think I've only had one reel that crapped out on me quickly. The rest lasted a least a season of hard use. Most reels give me many seasons of hard use.

  • @NStone90
    @NStone90 10 месяцев назад +1

    I have no problem buying something used, but it does help seeing them first as it's a good time to see defects which could help lower the price. I've bought a few pew pews used and have had no issues with them so a piece of fishing gear is nothing.

    Hey Debo, new subscriber here... I have sold a few rods and reels in my lifetime. I always make sure to let the buyer know if there is anything wrong with everything I sell up front, so there aren't any problems down the road. I bought a used St Croix Legend Tournament rod from a guy in Oklahoma a couple years ago. I really like it, it's a great rod. I've been using Daiwa reels since the 70's when I was just a young lad. Over the past 6 years, I've amassed a dozen Bass rods and paired them all with different variations of the Tatula Baitcasting Reel. I absolutely Love the Tatula's, they are great reels. I recently did my annual, semi-annual maintenance on them. It all depends on how much time I get to actually use them during the year. I cleaned them all up and re greased, oiled, and lubed. They are all good to go now for whenever Springtime decides to show up here in southeastern lower Michigan that is. Keep the videos coming. Tight lines...

    I agree with you about American Legacy. I bought a used reel from them which was in excellent shape. However, trying to cast with it for a while, I found I could not use it because of the shape of my thumb. I contacted them to trade in this reel for something I could use. Instead, they gave me a full refund. Great people.

  • @Davo2233
    @Davo2233 9 месяцев назад

    Is that a reverse image? Otherwise that’s absolutely not a left handed reel. I have 100 of them and need 10 of them swapped to left handed reels. As I have gotten older (52) I have had some neurological problems and I have a hard time fishing a bait that requires me to really manipulate the lure, like Alabama shaking a swim jig or walking a frog or a vixen/spook, jerk bait….. I also need the rod in my right hand when i need to set the hook real hard. I fished with traditional spinning gear until I was 25. Always having the rod in my right hand. My coordination is failing me. I’m going to look for some good, used left hand reels.

  • @pacman_17

    Hopefully you find the cause of the ticking in the Tatula 70. Put light pressure on the spool see if you can replicate the ticking or noise. This way you can diagnose the problem at home. If the reel sounds normal when you make as cast but makes a ticking sound when you retrieve. Check that pinion bearing like you would a spool bearing. Check the rotation with some pressure. It should feel smooth.

  • @Whitehalo117
    @Whitehalo117 10 месяцев назад

    It's concerning it sounds so rough when you're reeling it in. I have ceramics in an SLX on the spool and under the drive shaft and it does not make that noise. Maybe the anti-reverse clutch is messed up? My Curado DC was making that noise before the anti-reverse clutch blew up on a 4lber.

  • @leehowell4258
    @leehowell4258 10 месяцев назад

    Wonder if that’s a Daiwa thing. My Coastal SV sounds very similar. Always has straight out of the box and I’m religious about rinsing it when used in saltwater and routine maintenance. Even my Daiwa Ballistic has developed a rough sound around the spool which is irritating considering how much that reel costs! My Shimano SLX is as smooth as the day I got it. Same with my Stradic. It’s making me into a Shimano fan over Daiwa…

    I like buying used gear if i can get away with it but sometimes its cheaper in the long run to buy it new. I have a Modus R2 from 13 fishing bought it new... used was $5 less than new... I picked up a Abu Garcia Vengeance 6'9" rod i told you about a few years ago for $25.. a week later broke the tip and its now a 6'6" and that Black Max baitcaster $15 used ... i had to clean the snot out of it and do a little polising to the case but the thing sings like its new.

Like if you can afford to constantly buy new gear. Then giving it away for free to those who can't afford it, is not really a big deal. And you make someone else happy.

The 2 Tatula’s I have bought from American Legacy (coincidentally both the older & newer Tatula 100) have been fine, but a nearly new Tatula CT I bought off FB was pretty dry. @@DEBOSFishing It turned out to be the pinion gear for me. I don't know if it's from the oversized handles I put on mine or from just trying to cast to hard but I've had the clutch or whatever re-engage on me mid cast a few times and I guess it just messed up the pinion gear. You can hardly tell by inspecting it but I could feel some sharp spots on it that were warped just the tiniest bit where it meets the pin of the spool. Put a new pinion gear in and it was back to being smooth and quite. The previous owner of yours might have messed up the pinion gear. That's the only thing I don't like about tatula's, the lack of pinion support

When I loosened it I noticed it had a little play to where I could move it and mine was of center and hitting somehow but it worked so you can try that.

    Got some sand in one of my reels a couple weeks ago and used your video to break down my lews reel. So thanks and keep them coming.

    I bought a curado k used from American legacy, the thumb bar was broke, I returned it right away, they gave me my money back no hassle, customer service was great, but I probably wouldn’t by used gear again.

      I've bought an entire used arsenal from American legacy and haven't had an issue yet

    If you don’t have the schematics, how do you determine which size of bearings to buy?

      Measures the one you took out?

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  10 месяцев назад

      Yep measure or look online. Places will sell packs based on the reel you have

    I think you have a chip in one of the actual ceramic balls in the bearings but not 100% sure.

      Hmm, never thought of that! Maybe I'll do a swap!

      @@DEBOSFishingit's very much a possibility. I've heard same noises from that issue before. I'd give that a try before diving in to deep on the reel lol. Next would be the main drive bearing imo.

      @@DEBOSFishingOK just listened to it again I think I'd replace all the bearings on the spool and main drive gear that's around the spool shaft. It's one or more of those bearings I believe.

    That sound when you reel under stress is the gears. There is a flat spot somewhere.
