Sweet. I’m just about to paint three sheds and my house exterior. Was needing to work out what paint to use and if undercoating was needed, know I know. Greatly appreciated!.
You can't go wrong with taubmans all weather gloss acrylic or dulux weathershield gloss acrylic, both can go over good clean surfaces without undercoat in most circumstances
Watching your videos, especially ones like this reminds me of my time in Oz. Spent 6 years there back in the early 00's. Done a fair bit of work in cairns over those years amongst other places. Keep up the good work mate 👍
Great video. Brilliant stuff. I’ve a 16 x 10 shed with a red roller that I’m going to paint Colorbond Blue to match some colorbond on the house. I was going to prime first, but won’t now after watching this clip and reading the thread. Thanks again.
I was going to say 1/2 litre left lol. I never used to worry about the back bit I'd just do the front. I did a lot of that back then it was 250 for 1 400 for 2. Sometimes I could stretch it to 450-500 but be 4 hours unpack spray pack up. We're good little earners nice easy work too. I tended to always use full gloss.
I normally don't do them regularly but a friend recommended me so I did it for him. These two were $400, $77 paint cost, the rest was labour. If it was summer I'd wash and paint two coats in 4 hours but it's just about winter so I needed some dry time and it's only a few minutes from home.
Just watched this video, as I have to paint 1 roller door and this video answered my question about the chalking immediately haha, thanks for the reply tho, really appreciate it :)
Seems pretty straight forward, except I do not have a compressor etc. What would the result would be like with one of those cheap airless guns? Probably not great as it would go on thickly. I wonder if it is possible to hire the right equipment.

Hi, thanks for sharing you knowledge! we have a pannel lift door any recommendations on how to paint the sections that you see when the door lifts ? (Small sections in between the pannels?) Also would you recommend using a primer? Thanks so much!
How long do you think the paint will last? The slats roll up on to each other and rub, doesnt that wear paint off? These come coated from the factory. Thanks.

Its only one door but its the finish you get with a spraygun that's superior, people will always see it was not original paint if you do with a brush but with spray, it will look original.
This is great - I'm about to spray my old Titan shed and roller doors. So this was a great help, thank you. How much do you water the Weathershield paint down by if any ?
No its not good to use low sheen, semi gloss or gloss only because low sheen is porous and can create sticking, handprints and a poor finish after a while.
@@ThePa1nterhowto thanks for your advice. Will go with the semi gloss. Do you have any advice on painting aluminium roller shutters? The type that the slats open up a little when it’s cracked open? Would weathershield be okay for this or would an enamel be a better choice?
Hey Painter, I about to embark on painting a large shed, if the existing paint isn't powdery would a good gernie/clean enough prior to painting with a spay gun? Thanks in advance!
Yes that would be fine, make sure you use a good exterior paint like dulux Weathershield or similar, I like to use a gloss but Satin is the same as normal colorbond sheen.Disconnect your tank for the first rain if your not using specified roof paint.
"Very important " make sure there is no powder coming off them when you rub, personally I would steel wool sand them or wet and dry 400 grit sandpaper. If you can oil undercoat thats great, then two coats of the water based enamel or one coat of oil based enamel
If you used oil based enamel for top coat you would need to undercoat first and you would have problems with runs. Next best would be water based gloss enamel that if the surface is good you could just do two light coats with spraygun.
No problem, just use a good quality external acrylic, make sure its not powdery. I've done roofs 10-15 years ago that are still looking brand new, don't be fooled by all the hype on using undercoats, that went out 20 years ago. The only problem that could happen here is something called cohesion where two acrylics stick together.
Hey Painter unrelated question for you but if you could answer I’d appreciate it. If you have a gloss textured wall with to much definition to scuff sand the entire wall and dull the sheen what do you do what primer do you suggest
If your worried about adhesion and want no problems , I would be using the Quick-dry oil-based undercoat, you don't need to use a brush for the smaller areas unless you want to,the roller will get close enough
@@ThePa1nterhowto definitely worried about adhesion and want no problems so oil it is that has been my go to recently. How do you feel about the oderless oil undercoats?
Hi greg did you give this a light sand aswel? And if this door had areas where paint was flaking would you scrape and fill with something or just feather edges with sandpaper and paint. Cheers mate great video
These doors were in great condition so I only used a green scourer to form a key. If they were peeling I would try and take it all off or sand and feather them until they were good to paint. I wouldn't use any fill, it would just come out later unless it was for a hole.
Yes for sure, as long as the roof has been pressure cleaned with no powder on it . If you have drink water catchment, just leave the water pipe off the rainwater tank for a flush, I always use the gloss weathershield for roofs. The paint shops will tell you a different story.
Its a bit too wide 10" of spray, its possible but much harder to get a complete finish, possibly do an extra pass to get that coverage and cover up well
@@chillitrain9584 solarguard is fine, second coat can be as soon as the first one is dry about one hour. If you do a third coat ( not normally needed) wait a few hours and make sure its realy dry. Extra time for cold weather
This is a great video. I am looking at doing the same thing. Did you use any primer before the weathershield? How does the paint hold up on the roller door, considering the constant movement that it undergoes (I.e.rolling up and down)?
Did you clean up the blue overspray from the concrete?
There is no overspray, dropsheets are under the rollerdoors and anywhere there could be overspray was covered and more.
