    The D500 is fantastic, I will not sell mine as long as I live. Last year I got an OM-1 (because o size of telephoto lenses) and used it for a few months, then I went back to the D500.
    Now I have replaced the OM-1 with a Nikon Z8 though, but the D500 will stay.

      Sounds interesting - I'm sure there must be compromises compared to the Z8/9 but sounds like decent specs in the image quality department. Thanks for watching. 😊

    Just bought one of these used because I was really running up against a wall with my entry level D3500 and wanted finer control over my wildlife photos and I just can't afford mirrorless right now. Hope to use this for a long time!

    I went mirrorless…and while I love it, there was still this pull for wanting to own a DSLR again. So I picked up a D500. Right when I held it, things just felt right. So now I can enjoy both systems.

    • @Robert-Bishop
      @Robert-Bishop  3 месяца назад +3

      Yeah, I think that's a good point - doesn't have to be one or the other. And if you're going to be using a DSLR you can't go far wrong with a D500. Thanks for watching. 😊

      @Robert-Bishop I have the D500 and 200-500 F5.6 for wildlife and the Canon R7 with the 100-500 F7.1 and I use both systems especially the D500 in low light scenarios. The D500 is an all time classic camera

    Like a few others I can't get anywhere near the cost of mirrorless so plough on with a secondhand D810 and D500. D500, best shutter sound of any Nikon. I love to pair it up with a second hand Nikon 10-20mm DX lens and this combination is awesome. Two obvious negatives, you wouldn't get one for video and of course cropping is limited but apart from that it deserves to be one of Nikons flagships. :)

    Great video Rob, I will be sticking my D500 for some time, I love it and until the cost of the Mirrorless cameras / lenses comes down I'm happy using it. One thing that I don't think gets too much coverage on this type of video is the processing and storage aspects of something like D500 vs a newer 40+ mb 100fps camera. I think I would seriously have to consider workflow if upgrading.

    I bought the Nikon Z8 and after 2 weeks I started having problems with the view finder. I had it set for auto switching mode and when the screen turned off I turned it back on and I couldn’t see the back screen to review my pictures. I had to change the screen settings back every time. Now I’m getting the Nikon D500 to shoot with. I’m not spending a lot of money again on a camera.

    Own the Z9 and D500 and I still use it occasionally and I’m hard pressed to tell much difference if any. They are holding their price still as are F mount lenses. In fact the Nikon 200-500 used seems to be going up in price. I paid £600 for mine about 4 months ago in excellent condition now they are going for over £850.

    Still use mine and mine was one of the first sold here. The reason? Nothing better at the file sizes and IQ. Mine used for sports and wildlife paired with the Nikin 300 f2.8. Bought a Nikon ZF on a lark to test mirrorless and I use it for my one lens travel 24-120 and the D500 comes too with the 300 attached. With the reach of a 450mm and the IQ achieved at a decent file size, I could not ask for more. Both cameras pair really well as I have no need for huge files or more than 11fps shooting. The ZF gives me better video with IBS and works and compliments the D500 as I can swap all lenses as needed. With 12-24, 70-200 and assorted old manual nikon and D-series lenses, I can happily use all on both cameras. Nice too is the newer C-batteries charge on the old charger and work in the D500 too. When shooting birds or sports with the D500 and 300 2.8 I get such great bokeh I have a hard time looking at Nikons new long lenses to use on FF. Happy with my kit as it produces great images. The DX to me was the low budget way to just say no to larger lenses and more expensive bodies. The D500 is still a keeper.

    Hi Robert, Good report. I bought the D500 when it came out. Happy? Yes. It met my requirements.
    Does it still meet my requirements? ... Yes. Therefore "Happy Factor" should remain.
    At some stage soon, will I add a Z8? Probably. (Z8ii) Does that automatically mean that "Unhappy" ticket has to be attached to the D500? For me, .. No.
    I still use my D200 bought back in 2005. Only 10mp. However, I reall like what the CCD produces. For some of my requirements, It's still very competent.
    I mainly used a 4 x 5" Linholf Karden Master and Blad ELM 500 in studio. What we now call Full Frame 35m was not capable in the Pro industrial field.
    However, the Nikon Ftn Photomic could handle tasks that the othera cameras just couldn't.
    I think the words "Happy with camera" has been hijacked by retailers and promters alike.
    Is it still fit for purpose? ..... With a Z8 or Z9 added, will my D200 still be fit for purbose? Yes. Will I use it often, probably not.

    21 mp is indeed not crazy high but remember it is an apsc sensor. The D500 has the same pixel density as the D850. Cramming more pixels per unit area only leeds to more problems with noise and dynamic range.

    Hi Robert can you please advise me on the nikon D500 camera, I'm looking to purchase this camera to use with my sigma 150-600mm lens, I've found one on MPB where I've bought most of my gear, the only issue is the shutter count, its over 300k but the camera is cataloged as excellent condition, is it worth a punt, and if so would you recommend I have it serviced?,
    Waiting for your response 👍

    • @Robert-Bishop
      @Robert-Bishop  3 месяца назад

      It's difficult to say Steve. 300k+ is definitely high, but it does also depend on the condition of the camera and how well it has been looked after. I know people with shutter counts of over 200k and working fine, but I've never actually come across a D500 with a 300k+ shutter account. All I can say is that the build quality is excellent, so I guess that's in its favour. The price is also a big factor too - if it's the one that's about £600, I would say that's about okay, but personally I'd go for the "good" one that's slightly more expensive but has the shutter count around 144k. It just has a few aesthetic scuff marks by the looks of it. I think a service can only be a good thing, as long as it's by someone who knows what they're doing. I feel that may have confused more than helped, but I hope you get a good result with whatever you decide to go for. 😊

      @stevehassall6862 3 месяца назад

      Morning Robert, firstly thank you for replying back so promptly, no you haven't confused the issue I think I would have been getting that camera for the wrong reasons, yes OK it's checked my MPB and there's a 6 month warranty but knowing my luck 6 months and a day and boom?. I think I'll keep looking, I just wanted a D500 to use with the sigma, my camera I use is the nikon Z50 which I've read is the modern version of the D500?, your thoughts on that?.
      Anyway, thanks again for your honest feedback,

    • @Robert-Bishop
      @Robert-Bishop  3 месяца назад +1

      Also try eBay - I've often had better results there for used equipment. I haven't used a Z50, but my understanding is that it's not equivalent to the D500. Some of its headline stats are better than the D500, and it will undoubtedly have a great sensor that produces excellent image quality. It isn't built for or aimed at the pro/prosumer market though, like the D500 is. What the compromises are, I'm unsure, but there will definitely be some. Maybe around the memory buffer and things like that.

    • @Robert-Bishop
      @Robert-Bishop  3 месяца назад +1

      Depends on your budget, but if you can afford it, it will be a massive improvement on the D3400. Whether you need it will depend on the type of photography you do. The D500 excels at action and moving subjects, but if you're doing landscapes then a D3400 may be all you need. I'd recommend renting or borrowing one if possible, and see if you like it.
