oh, also i forgot to tell you thx to the figure out the exposure in 3 or less steps i was able to help my gf with her new camera, she thinks im awesome thanks to you.
Absolutely love my D500. I've actually stepped down from full frame D750 to this model. I shoot concert photography and was nervous about the switch, but have put this body to the test. It's been a champ in horrible lighting and rainy weather. Love it more and more each time I shoot with it.
I have owned my Nikon D7500 for exactly one day only and I love it. Yeah probably when you break it all down the D500 is a slightly better camera in a few different ways but at the end of the day picture quality cranks for me and I’m getting the same picture quality out of this camera as I would be 500 because the processor is the same and the sensor is the same and I will be using the same lenses. However find this camera I saved $750 over the D 500 and that’s a lot of coin. I have read so many people Winge about the lack of dual card slot. If we go back for five years most cameras only had one slot and no one really ever had a problem. If I’m gonna go out to someone’s wedding or something professional I would probably have a second body with me anyway as opposed to relying on the card failing or not failing. It’s more likely that something is in the camera might fail I supposed to the card and that’s where a second body would be more than useful. 128 gig card is gonna carry a lot of photos and video. Quite simply you can carry a second 128 gig card in your camera bag if you are gonna go through all of that in one shoot. As well as a spare battery if you need. The money I saved on the D7500 will allow me to buy other bits and pieces camera. And lots of people complain about the SnapBridge app but I found it really simple to connect and pretty straightforward. In fact I had to nick on cameras and to switch between the two using SnapBridge is actually quite simple. I would say one thing though it’s probably a lot easier to use an iPad or a tablet as opposed to a smart phone which will fill up really quickly. The image quality is simply outstanding on this camera and I love you to the cows come home it will do still photography as well as the D500 as it simply is the same sensor and same processor. I’m not going to bad today D500 at all as it is a great camera also but the amount of paper in the stain for the D7500 unwarranted we really analyse the facts. As jarred says the guts of these two cameras is the same. Okay so the D500 10 frames for second as opposed to 8 but really what sporting events or photography is really tell you lies that two frames for second difference. For the majority of us he’s taking photos that really is not going to make a huge difference and again I think so many people are just looking at the fault of the D7500 instead of embracing what it is which is a really beast of a camera for 1300 bucks or thereabouts. Remember the D500 is $750-$800 more expensive. To me it is not one third better camera than that is the D500. And honestly the 24 megapixels down to 21 or 20.9 Is not a factor I have seen the raw images from my Nikon D3 400 which is 24 megapixels compared To this camera and I cannot pick the difference. If you are doing a 30” x 15” canvas sure we might see some pixelation in massive size prints that who does this type of prints. The video is very similar in both these cameras it’s really good again I point to the fact that this camera is almost $800 cheaper. You cannot buy a product that is $800 cheaper and expect to get the same specs as the D500. And while most people do not see the benefit of a pop-up flash I do and it is useful in certain circumstances. So if you owned a D 500 and you needed to buy a flash that’s another hundred bucks also on top. I understand the love for the D7500 people need to stop criticising the D7500 because they love the D500 that’s simply stupid. I also see one major benefit to the D7500 that the D500 does not have and that’s the proximity sensor where the monitor turns off when your eye comes up to the viewfinder. That is brilliant and it’s really really good the first time I used it it’s almost like the camera is watching you. Also the D7500 is lighter. When you’re can you camera around 7-8 hours on a hike somewhere in the middle of nowhere that’s gonna make a hell of a difference and also just holding it remember holding a camera still free hand is a huge difference when the camera is lighter. Okay I’m not gonna bag the D500 as it is a brilliant camera but the D7 500 for almost 1/3 the cost of the D500 it’s a bloody awesome value camera and I think if the D500 didn’t exist then we would be raving about this D7500 but we’re not because there is a similar camera that has a few more features that were pissed off that this camera doesn’t have when in actual fact they are different cameras and that different markets. My estimation some prices are Australian dollars. I love the Nikon D7500.
I too would choose d7500 over d500. It's because 8/10 frames/sec makes hardly any difference. Since we have same sensor and processor, image quality is the same. Focus points of 51 is more than enough having 151 will confuse me due to more choice. Overall, d500 costs 3 times for insignificant and unwanted features. So definitely for APSC dslr, d7500 is better. If we have that much money, why not go full frame and improve the image quality, higher iso, more colours and more dynamic range. D750 is more value for money.
You misunderstood the purpose of dual card. It's not when the camera is failing (so that you can alleviate with second body), but it's when something bad happens with the card. So for example you have taken 100 shots of professional wedding pictures, and your sd card decides to go bad so that you lost all those pictures. It'd suck so bad for professional photographer, not to mention also the clients, as wedding is a once in a lifetime event. If you have dual sd card slot, the camera writes two copies of each of the shots taken, one in the first card and another the second card. So when one of the cards fails, there're backup. Just like hdd or ssd, sd card can and will fail sooner or later.
Hmm, I am the user of D500, the major difference between D500 and 7500 is the AF system/the buffer and the burst speed, if you need a camera which which is for Wildlife/Birding, D500 will be your choice, (I choose the D500 cuz I have to birding), if you didn't, save your money for a better glass.
Tbh, D500 and D7500 aim for totally different markets, D500 is designed for wildlife and sports while the D7500 is designed for enthusiasts. So, take what you NEED.🤔 I need a robust AF system and a deep buffer for different sudden moments like a bird jumping up and down between different trees.
I don’t agree with the concept of “stepping up” to full frame. DX is a choice, not a compromise. The d500 and d750 are completely different cameras despite being in the same price bracket
Why not? I prefer less noisy, shallower depth of field and more dynamic range. So currently using D5500 for learning but will upgrade to full frame skipping these intermediary apsc cameras. Of course if I were a wildlife photographer, I would choose D500 as ultimate.
@@gzarari I would prefer the D500 as best APSC camera but there are not many DX lenses available in Nikon to save money. I have purchased a 70-300mm DX version since the FX version doesn't have much benefits and was at least 3X pricier. If they had similar quality primes and zooms, I would have gone for it. Putting cheap lens on high end camera like D500 gives very mediocre results. Nowadays we have 45MP full frame dslr and if cropped will yield similar resolutions with less noise and better dynamic range. Of course D500 has nice speed. Mirrorless is still way better.
I'm trying to go pro and shoot astrophotography and wildlife. I have a d3500 but will be getting a d7500 because glass is more important than bodies. And if you like depth of fieldd, low light iso and dynamic range buy a hasselblad x6d-100c. And my d3500 has a larger color depth and dynamic range than a 6dmkll
I'm gonna buy a D7500, although I do shoot sports the big price difference and the fact I don't shoot as often anymore as I used to. It will replace my D7000, I'm still very happy with that one, I use it for sports, weddings and everything else! Not alot of photographers believe me when they see my photo's that I use such a "cheap" and old camera! My only complaint with the D7000 was the low fps and the small buffer and this improves on all of that. BTW about the single card slot, I never had one SD-card failed on me and after a couple of shoots I used the second cardslot in my D7000 as an overflow, so I just need to buy a couple of bigger sd-cards and problem solved for me! BTW Jared, I think u didn't stuck enough time in the flash-portion of this comparison, the D7500's flash can act as a commander to almost every flash Nikon sells! With the D500 u need or a SB-5000 or 2 flashes at least, while I almost always use only 1 flash!
koen miseur Exactlyyyy! I’m in the same situation, a lot of reviews always slander the 7500 when in fact it borrows almost all the image quality and processing from the “pro” d500. It has upgraded features from the 7200 despite the card and battery grip issue, two things I have not used / needed to, so for me it’s a great compromise that allows 4K video on an already familiar body. The money saved can go onto better glass which always a plus! Lighter weight again allows for longer use and better compatibility with less expensive gimbals and in menu touch screen not a deal breaker but always welcome hahah. Gonna grab the d7500 then the gh5 in future.
I've had the D500 since Jsnuary of 2018. It is such an amazing camera. It blows away my D7100, even though the D7100 was a really awesome camera. The buffering is unreal when shooting with an XQD card.
I have upgraded my d7100 to d500. I’m really impressed with my d7100 but d500 is a top performer with its autofocusing system and all round performance. I thought it’s better to upgrade from d7100 to d500 than to d7500.
I use a D7500 which I got on sale. I’m completely satisfied with it. Eight FPS is great, and I never fill the buffer. I like that it’s lighter than the D500 because with telephoto lenses, the combo can get a little heavy.
Currently shooting with a D7100 for past 4 years with a 17-55 2.8 glass. The kicker for me is the 2 card slots and the vertical grip. My choice for upgrade will be D500.
Upgraded from my D5200 to the D7500 and never regretted it. Sure, it has quite a few setbacks compared to the D7200 or D500, but I don't use it so often anymore, it has great performance for its value, a great LCD flipping touchscreen, Snapbridge to easily upload my shots, and a lighter camera body for easy of portability. Never had an issue with just using one SD card slot, its easily solved with a larger or faster card like 32GB or higher Sandisk Extreme Pro series. I think its a great mini brother to the D500 and I forsee myself liking the design, its lighter weight, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for phone/social media connectivity, the improved AF, with auto area AF and group AF, and the 8fps (to me) is already pretty fast and much more generous compared to other Nikon D5000s or 3000s series cameras. The 4K UHD Video addition is something good as well, which the D7200 and the D5000/3000 series do not have. Even if it is heavily cropped and does not have a good phase detection AF in Live View as Canon, it still takes pictures and focuses relatively quickly on your subjects. It all depends on your needs, how much you're willing to spend on your system, and comparing it to prev models that you're upgrading from. I would say hands down I never regret upgrading from the D5000s series to the D7500 and I recommend it still if you don't wish to break your bank. However, if you're an experienced enthusiast, or a person who can afford a better system, go for the big brother the D500. I'm satisfied and happy with my upgrade and I pray you guys will make the right choice for yourselves without hating on Nikon too much :)
I guess you missed the point, D7500 is surely way better camera than D5200 but Jared is answering to different question... is D7500 worth go for as an upgrade for D7xxx series owners?... the answer is clearly NOT!
surely if the 7500 has the same sensor as the D500 its going to be a clear step up from the 7200? on that premise I would choose the 7500 over the 7200 all day long. the second sd card means nothing really does it, just carry a second card if anyone is that worried.
I love my D500. Other than the weight, which is a love-hate relationship (I love how solid it feels but it's heavy), it does everything I need it to do. I shoot sports but also do portraiture and weddings and i found it to be a pretty versatile camera. Only real complaint is SnapBridge... -_-
I will be buying the Nikon D7500 as I'm not a professional. But, would love to be eventually. I just know that it's in my price range and it has everything I am looking for at the moment. I honestly fell in love with this camera. I am so excited and can not wait to buy it.
I am going with the 7500! I am a artist/ painter that specializes in portraits. So I really donot need the frame count. This will enable me to buy a 105 or 135 prime portrait lens.
D500 no question. Can use older F-mount glass, two card holders, joystick, af-points, bufferspace, ai-tab and vertical grip. The D7500 should technically be called D5700.
True, if it wasn't for the cropped sensor I would totally get it, but me being a starter I want to jump into the FX full frame world and I feel like the d750 is a good camera to start with for that.
I own the D750 that I use for everything. I'm thinking of buying the D500 when a great sale comes up to use for strictly sports (I shoot football and competitive cheer) and keeping the D750 for portraits. One day, when the D810 replacement is released, I'll sell my D750 and use that one for portraits. For now, the D750 is an amazing all-around camera. I love it!
I’m going with the D500. Although both are less there’s still about $600 difference between the two and I already have the D7200. Which I’ll keep as my backup.
We've seen pro's take photos with small digital toy cameras for a few dollars with stunning result. It's not the camera, it's the photos you take with that camera that helps. Although in digital land, it does help with better sensors, old analog time it didn't matter much as the film was still the same. A better camera just makes it easier to achive the same thing and create larger prints because of the better sensors.
So many people jump blindly into buying a camera. There is honestly no reason that a complete amateur needs a D500 UNLESS they are looking for exceptional sports, action, or wildlife shooting quality. The d7200 is the best option for a DX camera for someone who is shooting landscape, their kids, and want to get a little more than just the lower end features. Cheaper than the d7500 and the only reason to upgrade to the d7500 from a 7200 is for FPS and AF really, and if you are gonna make that price jump do yourself a favor and treat yourself to the d500
I'd say find a factory refurb to the D500 which is what I did. Sold my D7200 and bought the Factory refurb D500. Love the camera and your videos very helpful. Also bought the 80-44mm and love that over prices lens. LOL
Being an owner of one old but venerable D300S, if I had to choose a camera based on this review, I think I would go for the D500. Having 2 memory slots is one of the most important specs in my opinion. I don't know why nikon decided to get rid of one slot from the 7200 to the 7500.
i did D7000 > D500 transition recently... what a difference! BTW even old D7000 has some functional advantages over D7500 - dual card slot & battery grip ;-)
Jared take the challenge and do some bird photography. I think nature photography is one of the most challenging of all because you do not control anything.
so many people are leaning towards the d7500. i understand you. if you only do stills and you dont want the best iso performance in a aps-c camera, go for the d7500 and use that leftover cash for glass. personally, i am a zookeeper in the birdarea and do most of the pr for my work, so i went with the d500 since birds are gonna be 95% of my shots and other focus systems just cannot handle that type of photography the same way. you pay more but you do get extra performance that is nearly unrivalled and well reviewed and beloved. its not more expensive as a marketing trick. but not everyone will fully utilize that autofocus system the d500 offers so i understand the gravitation towards the d7500.
Every time there is a similarity - the check should go to the 7500! Reason: for having the same component as the D500 in a smaller, lighter, less expensive body.
JAMES JOSEPH picture quality is exactly the same, or is anything d7500 is slightly better in exposure. Only real advantage in d500 is autofocus system, but unless you’re a pro and heavy into wildlife or sport the d7500 is better value.
I went with the D500 because I had $2500 to blow and the D610 was sold out. I got the D500 kit and used the extra $500 to buy the 17-55mm DX F2.8 lens (used.) Then later got the D610...used....for $500.
Check the D300s. Still getting a few hundred dollars 8 years after it came out. You have to be smart enough to upgrade before tech is a decade old to get any money back.
I wonder how you missed the fact that, D500 is coupled with dual processors, one completely dedicated to AF system .. Also D500's view finder is noticably bigger and brighter than d7500.
These are two terrific cameras but our local electrical store had the D5600 with TWO kit lenses (18-55 & 70-300mm) for $999 AUD and that’s about $650 US. So looking at the components of this deal and taking off the approximate prices of the lenses to arrive at the cost of the body and you’re getting the body for about $330 US. Now that is something of a steal because if you buy the body alone it costs $875 AUD and that is about $577 US. That’s amazing, a Nikon body for about half price!! I gave it the “sniff” ”test...and it was ok. I gave it the “air tunnel” test and it held up there too. I even gave it the “look at it in the Sun” test ... and yep, it’s the same. Where I am the D7500 body costs about $1800 and the D500 body about $2500 so I think I got a great deal and an extra 4 megapixels on the sensor as well. Do I miss those extra bells and whistles for taking stills of this and that?? Nope!
Very nice and we'll thought out comparison. Thank you! You made it easy to decide between these cameras without injecting any bias you yourself might have regarding the two.
Now that these cameras are about four years old you can find great special prices on the D7500 but not so much the D500. I have just bought on Amazon a D7500 for about 35% off its original price. I already have a DX system so lenses are not a problem to stick on as I already have them. With the “guts” of the D7500 Being the same as the D500 I’m hoping to get some really good images on this new addition to my small camera setup and a little more photographic flexibility with a higher spec camera.
I just did the same thing and picked up a used D500 to complement my Z6. With wildlife photography I use a Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 on the Z6, and a Tampon G2 150-600mm F/5.6-6.3 on the D500. It gives me incredible range and the D500 is great for BIF.
@@Interbeing_CDN Thanks for your feedback. I'm still planning to get the D500 as well. Especially when it comes to aquiring focus on my fast running BLACK dog, it should be better than the Z6. Love the Z6 though for everything else.
One other item missing from the D7500 compared to the D7200: no aperture feeler for older lenses. It's a benefit if you don't have any old glass because it saves weight, but if you do use old glass it's certainly a drawback. D7200 shooter here, not planning on jumping up to a D7500. Likely I'll go to full frame next and keep my D7200 for backup and/or telephoto work. The lack of a second card slot and grip really turned me off to the D7500.
well thanks for this video , i am planning to upgrade my Nikon d 5600 , since i shoot mostly wildlife , was looking for a higher frames per second hence selected the d 500 , but yes i will definitely give a thought for d 7500
22 years ago I went with nikon for 1 reason ( I was far from a photographer, even today , but Love taking picture ) , the reason was Nikon had more robust entry body ( a lot of my shooting is when I'm skiing ) . My guest is the D500 have a more robust body ? between the 2, I would go with the more robust or the D7500 if they are the same.
Hii Jared, I really like your videos and especially your honest opinions about every camera brand. I am a beginner in photography and with no intention of being a professional photographer. I have a budget of about $1500 including both body and lens. Which camera should I go for?
Well done my friend, that was well detailed and informative and not boring at all. I want to be able to shoot video in 4K and I was eyeballing Nikon D 500.
As always, nice summary Jared. Do you know about the differences for the in-camera AF motors (relevant for AF-D screwdriver lenses)? I imagine the D500 has a much stronger and snappier AF motor, similar to how the D3/D4/D5 out-perform the D6x0/D7x0/D8x0 series in this regard...but I don't know for sure (the demonstration models I've tested had only AF-S/G lenses mounted).
People Bitching about this camera saying garbage of a camera, Or saying that the d7200 is way better, no it isnt, this camera is way better than the d7200 in image quality and video, the only thing in d7200 is the 2 card slot, but d7200 is not for the same market thats why it is not discontinued, and for the those bitching about not having an af motor you dont even know what you´re talking about, it does have an af motor, it laksan ai index tab, but that is for very very old nonaf lenses. and even like that you can still use them, you just wont get the exposure metering.
If you want to shoot time lapse or astrophotography, go with the D500. I bought the D7500 and love the image quality, size, and the touchscreen. Buuuut... not being able to add a battery or use external power really hurts for time lapse and video recording!
Can't you use the battery adapter to wall for external power since it use the same battery or is it not software/electronically compatible with the battery adapter?
I picked up a D7500 at the Camera Swapmeet for $400... so the D7500 was a no brainer... AND... why did the D7500 score higher than the D500 at 'High ISO Performance' at DXOMark?... BECAUSE it does shoot better on low light than the D500. I have both cameras and can see the difference... you can't convince me otherwise. By the same token, I totally love my D500 and will NEVER sell it. And you screwed up by giving the video AF award to Canon... you should have given it to Sony... ;)
D7500 is just a budget D500. Price is significantly lower. Quality of the image is the same. I was originally comparing D7500 to the D750. I prefer the reach advantage of the DX camera's and been shooting aps-c the whole time. Sure, not being able to shoot ultra wide angle might be a downside, but I rarely ever even use anything wider anyway. I'm always cropping if my image is too wide. D7500 is a well rounded camera. You can do portrait, landscape, art, street, sports, sky, wildlife, and many more in my experience. I never felt like I couldn't do something because of the camera as much as felt like I was enabled to do things because of it.
Sitting here wondering what I should upgrade to from my D7000....leaning toward the D500 but man it's double the price for the body only than the 7500 now.
Hey Jared! Thanks for the info! I have a D500 and I love it! Had originally traded 2 nikon d7100s for. The d7500 wasn't around at the time. But I may consider getting a second camera for video purposes like I had before, since they both shoot 4k with 30fps and have the same sensor, I might just get a d7500 as the back up, or wait till nikon comes up with 4k at 60fps lol.. having a second camera is not a necessity but I do a lot of video with my d500 for bands and having a second one on a tripod would help a ton (since i have a bad back up camera for that atm). thanks again for the info! keep shooting raw!
obv d500 wins... However I say unless one often shoots any type of sporting events and really NEED that AF system and 10fps, I think it's better to just go with a d750, cheaper and full frame to play with.
Hi Jared.. Nice comparison. I've been using a D5100 for over 6 years and looking to upgrade. Currently own a nikon 50mm f1.8, tokina 11-20 f2.8 and tamron 24-70 f2.8 G2. Will D500 be a good upgrade? Or should I go with the cheaper D7500? I shoot mostly travel and portraits. I'm not a professional, but I plan to use the camera for at least 6/7 years.
Just get the D750 and D810 for sports/action and landscape/travel. What I've got. Pros I know and have shot with whose horse racing images use the D750 (and Nikon D4s and a few the D5... which is a beast!)...and they are published in all the heavy hitting major media outlets. If you need a burst of 200 fps, you aren't a photographer...you are then a videographer.
I would say that if you wanted the slight improvement in performance a move from the D7200 then it might make sense, but the additional cost difference (I think when this was posted, the D7200 was still about $1000) that $300 may not equate to much of a perceivable improvement. And you give up the second card slot. However, the D7500 does have a newer processor and lower resolution, so presumably better in low light (not that the D7200 was bad, it is just 2-3 years older). But honestly if it was me, I couldn't give up my second card so I'd probably skip over a D7500 and either stay with the D7200 or jump to the D500 myself.
I’m in the market for a new camera as my Nikon D7000 is way out dated. I was planning on buying the Nikon D7500. How soon do you think Nikon will come out with a replacement for the D7500? Should I wait? Let me know your thoughts please. Thanks!
Forgotten to mention the D500 had a built in AF motor, the D7500 does not. The older version D7100 and D7200 also has a AF motor. I still have a number of lenses that require the body to have a focus motor, this is why for me the D500 wins
Thanks a lot for your nice video! I myself have a D7200 and naybe want to upgrade for D7500 or D500. This Video helps me at least to decide for the D500. Or I still keep my D7200 and change in a few years to mirrorless (maybe Z6ii or others) Hard to decide....!
very sory for my "english".. for shooting my kid playing hockey: I've looked couple of Jared videos, got 70-200 lens (no sex for two weeks with kids mother cuz of price), D3300 body and LightRoom, works absolutely perfect. thinking to upgrade to D7200 and don't need any of D500's at all.
Hello Jared :) I want to change my Nikon ... i have a Nikon D3200 for 3 or 4 years... and I shoot lot of rally , with one of D7500 or D500 you recommend to me ? And i want an wide lens for sport to buy
I am ready to upgrade my Nikon D7000. I already have a Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-200mm F/3.5-5.6G ED VR II lens. Am I better off buying a D500 or D7500 to go with this lens?
I am looking to buy semi pro camera, I shoot videos and stills and on a tight budget. I’m confused between D7500 & D750, it’s Dx vs FX I know... but which camera do you think I should prefer? On Internet it’s a par with each other, but 750 definitely carries an edge because of its full frame sensor. Is D7500 worth my money ? Considering I can buy lenses which costs my much lesser than fX lenses
Watching this review makes me think I did good saving even more money and buying an 80D by canon, am I wrong? (using it for better reach for wildlife).
80D, D500, D7500 are all crop bodies - no difference between the reaches (okay, the canon is 1.6x and nikon is 1.5x but not much of a difference). I have a D500 and it creams the 80D, especially in wildlife, unless you are only shooting AF video. Yes the 80D is cheaper, but the D500 is hands down worth the price.
I have an 80D and it is an excellent camera. The D500 is a different league though. You wouldn't look out of place taking the D500 to a major sporting event to shoot as it is meant for pros and is a true top of the line crop sensor camera. The closer Canon competitor to the D500 is the 7D Mark II, although having a couple years older tech now, it is outclassed now. Amazing what has happened in the world of cameras in just a couple of years. Now...video autofocus, Canon has Nikon beat all day long. Also, the flip out screen on the 80D is infinitely more useful than just a tilting screen.
It’s been about ten years since I’ve done any photography. Used a nikon D200 in high school and loved it. I had my eye on the D7500 but now I’m eyeing the D500 all while thinking about the z6. What should I do? I want something where I can keep finding new ways to take pictures.
Shooting fast moving objects? Id say D500, for the rest it might be better to go for Z6 perhaps, but that's just my opinion. I have been looking at the z6 but as a current D500 user it's not enough to warrant a change but it's another ballgame coming from an older camera or no camera at all. I think we will se most development go towards the new Z range even if DSLRs will probably be developed for some time still.
Alexander Källberg I actually decided to go with the z50 as I am barely getting back in to it. I do plan on getting something like the z6 or z7 when I feel comfortable with something of that caliber
In real estate photography interiors. Coming from the d7100, is there any reason to go with the d500 or just go with d7500? Any comments greatly appreciated. Thx!
grab my 11 days to better photography videos right here froknowsphoto.com/11days
one haircut and thats a deal ;^)
oh, also i forgot to tell you thx to the figure out the exposure in 3 or less steps i was able to help my gf with her new camera, she thinks im awesome thanks to you.
Is it 8 fps in 12bit RAW like with other nikon cameras and 6 or 7 fps using 14bit or straight 8 fps for 12/14bit?
Thanks. I asked because my camera does only 14bit 5 fps but all versions since do 4 fps 14bit and 5 fps 12bit since 12bit got added.
actually D5200
Absolutely love my D500. I've actually stepped down from full frame D750 to this model. I shoot concert photography and was nervous about the switch, but have put this body to the test. It's been a champ in horrible lighting and rainy weather. Love it more and more each time I shoot with it.
Aaron Peipert do you just use FX lenses for d500?
hello mate! I was wondering if you could tell us what lenses are you using with your D500?
After reading this comment I’ll go with D7500💯
Hmm, I am the user of D500, the major difference between D500 and 7500 is the AF system/the buffer and the burst speed, if you need a camera which which is for Wildlife/Birding, D500 will be your choice, (I choose the D500 cuz I have to birding), if you didn't, save your money for a better glass.
Tbh, D500 and D7500 aim for totally different markets, D500 is designed for wildlife and sports while the D7500 is designed for enthusiasts. So, take what you NEED.🤔
I need a robust AF system and a deep buffer for different sudden moments like a bird jumping up and down between different trees.
For my needs, the D7500...with all my respect to the D500.
Same Here 👍🏻
spirg do you have it?
Same!
@@braydonpov7357 I do, like it alot! Instagram: selection.by.sterud
Nono buy mirrorless plz rn. So much better
@@Dave_en Thats the pros of full frame, otherwise d500 is faster, more reliable, 1.5x crop helps sometimes and lenses and everything are cheapier!
@@Dave_en and they aren't intermediate. They are semi-pro
So what are your thoughts?
Been shooting equestrian events for a whole year now, the 7500 does its job PERFECTLY. Literally couldnt ask for a better camera, and its fun!
I love my D500. It just feels so solid in the hand.
I got my D500 for about 4 months now and I use it for everything .
Just love it.
3:37, That check mark on Canon is hilarious. XD
2 years later, how does the camera hold up?
Giovanni Trombetta the camera is like a fine wine, gets better with age. The d7500 will be in its prime in 2024
I am going with the 7500! I am a artist/ painter that specializes in portraits. So I really donot need the frame count. This will enable me to buy a 105 or 135 prime portrait lens.
Why didn't you just buy a d3500? It's the best image quality dx for lowlight iso
D500 no question.
Can use older F-mount glass, two card holders, joystick, af-points, bufferspace, ai-tab and vertical grip.
The D7500 should technically be called D5700.
forgot about only one card slot lololol what a joke.
Agreed. The 7500 makes no sense when compared to other camera in the 7xxx line.
D500 everyday for wildlife photography
the d500 is a beast, love that thing
True, if it wasn't for the cropped sensor I would totally get it, but me being a starter I want to jump into the FX full frame world and I feel like the d750 is a good camera to start with for that.
I couldn't believe how large viewfinder it have.I was D3 and D3s user,and D500 pleasantly surprised me.
I had the D7000 and loved it...but when I read about the d500 and it's capabilities...I was hooked! Love my d500❤!!
You always have awesome videos. Taking a "step up" from the 7200, to the 500. Thanks for the comparison and confirmation!
Just bought the D500 for that price. It came with the battery grip from Adorama. Can't beat that!
Watched a lot of your videos and only this one explained the wind tunnel test sufficiently.
My D60 still going strong 25k shutter count, and only 3 focus points and I manage to shoot great photos.. it's about the eye and the creativity..
I just bought a D7500 and I really like it. Huge upgrade from my D60!
I would say hugh upgrade from the 7200 as well with the better sensor and 4k video.
Really appreciate these straight to the point, clearly done comparison videos! Thanks for doing them !
Coming from a D90, either of these would be a huge step up.
CalypsoRaz same!! @uk_av1ation on Instagram :)
Time to change man...
I'd say find a factory refurb to the D500 which is what I did. Sold my D7200 and bought the Factory refurb D500. Love the camera and your videos very helpful. Also bought the 80-44mm and love that over prices lens. LOL
good point.
Sorry mate 80-400mm lens. Damn type.... You also did a good review on that. Hey stop with the reviews your draining my bank. LOL
Being an owner of one old but venerable D300S, if I had to choose a camera based on this review, I think I would go for the D500. Having 2 memory slots is one of the most important specs in my opinion. I don't know why nikon decided to get rid of one slot from the 7200 to the 7500.
Went from d7100 to d500....no regrets!
i did D7000 > D500 transition recently... what a difference! BTW even old D7000 has some functional advantages over D7500 - dual card slot & battery grip ;-)
My d3500 takes better photos than the d7000 though
You can get a grip for d7500 and sad cards are cheap and weight next to nothing.
I have the d60... either one is WOW to me!!! :)
I thought my d3500 was hard to use for wildlife
Every time there is a similarity - the check should go to the 7500! Reason: for having the same component as the D500 in a smaller, lighter, less expensive body.
Dude D500 is another range.
I got the D500 kit and used the extra $500 to buy the 17-55mm DX F2.8 lens (used.)
Then later got the D610...used....for $500.
D500...better resale value.
good point.
very true. Regardless of how long you keep it you will always be able to get $400+ dollars for it and probably still $1000+ for the next year or so
Resale? In a DSLR? Signed, the D200 user who won't get jack for his old body.
Check the D300s. Still getting a few hundred dollars 8 years after it came out. You have to be smart enough to upgrade before tech is a decade old to get any money back.
Smart enough helps. Money enough helps more.
Great video. I like it. Will go for the D7500 as I'm upgrading from a D70 and still consider myself very much an amateur
Between this two I choose my 7200 :)✌🏻
I wonder how you missed the fact that, D500 is coupled with dual processors, one completely dedicated to AF system ..
Also D500's view finder is noticably bigger and brighter than d7500.
does this true?
Mumtaz Arafah yes
Nope!
ive ordered a D500 :) it just has the features that will be useful to me!! that AF system for events work :)
Currently using D7500... its amazing cam..❤❤🔥👌👌🙏
The D500 is on my wishlist as a compagnion for my Z6. For action I prefer an OVF and the AF system if the D500. For everything else my Z6 ruleZ 👍
Thanks fro. This video and the other one in the golf club convinced me to get the D500. Amazing camera...selling my d5600 to recover some $$$
One of the best comparison on youtube
Did I want to buy a D500? You bet. I added a nice lens and bought a D7500 instead. I do not regret that decision at all. I upgraded from a D5100 tho
Would it be a good upgrade camera from a d5100 to a d7500? I love making videos and wanna better my skills. Nice video keep up the good work. 💯✊🏼
Hi Jared! I wanted to ask you which camera has the better AF speed and accuracy for BIF ? D500 or D850 ?
I have the D7200 and will upgrade to the D500 early next year.
WOW , very similar . About to order a 7500 , for Myself , it’s ideal .
then what's the point of making the d7500?
Thanks Jared , now I know which to go for ( D7500)
I picked up a D7500 at the Camera Swapmeet for $400... so the D7500 was a no brainer... AND... why did the D7500 score higher than the D500 at 'High ISO Performance' at DXOMark?... BECAUSE it does shoot better on low light than the D500. I have both cameras and can see the difference... you can't convince me otherwise. By the same token, I totally love my D500 and will NEVER sell it. And you screwed up by giving the video AF award to Canon... you should have given it to Sony... ;)
Jared, love your videos. This one, I found really lively. Thank you.
I love how canon still gets a checkmark in here and it's not in the table lmao... but for reals.. I'm looking at the 7500 now
.. #afforable lol
Which should I upgrade to, coming from a D7000?
Hi , thanks for the review , this is just great as always.
thanks !!!!
Hey Fro, I have a D7000. Do you consider upgrading from that to a D7500 a lateral upgrade too?
Thank you for this! Can I please ask what camera and audio equipment you used for this video. Thanking you.
Great stuff got the 7100 so definitely upgrading to d 500
Great movie. Thanks. We still use Canon for our RUclips videos
Hi Jared i have D3400 is it reasonable to upgrade D7500 or D7200 ? thank you.
It is a huge jump from D3400 to D7500, I still own those three cameras. still in Love with my D7500, really recomended
Or I still keep my D7200 and change in a few years to mirrorless (maybe Z6ii or others)
Hard to decide....!
a video of the 7100-7500 comparison would be great
very sory for my "english".. for shooting my kid playing hockey: I've looked couple of Jared videos, got 70-200 lens (no sex for two weeks with kids mother cuz of price), D3300 body and LightRoom, works absolutely perfect. thinking to upgrade to D7200 and don't need any of D500's at all.
Just show her the beautiful photos of the kids you take with it and she'll forgive you. :-)
Just two weeks? That was worth it!
Damn. Did you mean to type that?
would you upgrade to the D7500 from the D7000? Or go straigth to the D500?
Hello Jared :) I want to change my Nikon ... i have a Nikon D3200 for 3 or 4 years... and I shoot lot of rally , with one of D7500 or D500 you recommend to me ?
And i want an wide lens for sport to buy
I am ready to upgrade my Nikon D7000. I already have a Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-200mm F/3.5-5.6G ED VR II lens. Am I better off buying a D500 or D7500 to go with this lens?
Bring up a comparsion between nikon d500 and d850
Also, the flip out screen on the 80D is infinitely more useful than just a tilting screen.
im using Nikon D99 since the year it was launched. Im planing to upgrade and my options are D7500 or D500.
@@ronniefletes92 can't go wrong with z50 either, thing mirrorless was a good choice 👌
"Sniff test"...anyone know where I can get "new camera fragrance" spray :)))))))
Nice explanation. 10fps matters a lot in bird photography.Curently I am using P900 but I need to upgrade to D500 or Z series with APSC sensor.
Hi! So what did you choose?
@@wildpeach I purchased canon R10
In real estate photography interiors. Coming from the d7100, is there any reason to go with the d500 or just go with d7500? Any comments greatly appreciated. Thx!
