This car was taken care of but met an untimely demise due to a minor accident that cost too much by Mercedes standards to repair. It’s great it found a good guy like you Mike to appreciate it and bring it back for many more miles of enjoyment. 😎👍
When dealing with bent sheet metal, the first step, once open to easy view, is to study the damage carefully and mark all kinks with a marker. Then, as you apply force to shift the bent part, tap out the kinks with a metal hammer. This will relieve the stress that causes the metal to spring back into where it was prior to shifting it.
Lovely progress! Please, be mindful, that the front fenders for the 96-99 W210 aren't the same for the 2000-2003, they have a cut under the biggest headlights for the bumper.
This one is a keeper for sure! When you get back get a body shop to tidy it up and weld that support in. Then Macco the hood and fender in. It’s to sure a keeper, my old CL was Cubanite silver 😍
I am at pull a part often. I have adopted a folding wagon and a dedicated tool set for my excursions. I got tired of puling tools out for each trip and then having to dig through them all in a bag to find what I needed. The wagon coupled with a ratchet strap has helped me carry out many large items alone that a wheel barrow would not, and I really hate wheel barrows. I spent a lot of time cleaning horse stalls as a kid and I think it turned me against wheel barrows forever. LOL! I just wanted to share what I have found that makes things easier. I want your life to be as simple as possible so you can make us more great content to watch. I love the car and think you got a bargain on this one.
@@MonkeyWrenchMike; I am sorry Mike, but for someone whose teething ring was the tailfin of a 1959 Pontiac Bonniville on the northern Outskirts of Debt-Riot, details like that on cars just get my attention.
Hey Mike . Loving the new W210 e320. Just got myself a e240 saloon, here in Australia. Unfortunately I have a feeling that the 97-2000 models front guards are different to the 01-03 models. They put more of a slope on the front end with the update. Only hope I am wrong, mate. All the best and keep up the good work. Love Lola, btw. Regards Mick.
Hey Mike, If I remember correctly, the fender from a pre-facelift model before '99 does not fit on a facelift model after 1999. The front section was also aerodynamically modified back then. Best wishes from Germany and keep up the good work 👍
yes you are right, the 1997 left fender is different then the original right fender, he needs all parts from facelift model 1999 and up, that is hood, fenders, headlights and bumper, all must be from facelift w210

The S210 is taking great shape Mike and I really enjoy seeing the process and the methods you use. An effective way to lift the area that houses the headlight is using a car jack and put a block of wood. That will give you the inch you need for the fender to attach.

I had a power seat motor that wouldn't work in a car I bought and took a hammer and gave it a few taps on seat motor and to my surprise it worked, give that a shot it might sir.
The unbending looks really good I would say next step is a piece of angle iron bolted to the bolt holes and then use the clamps on the angle iron to pull the metal up toward it
Awesome video love these type of videos. Honestly love all your videos you just seem to be a genuine person. Keep up the great work Mike awesome channels
Mike, I'm going to comment before I watch the video. I want to thank you for trying to repair this old Benz, as I know the upside isn't high, but the videos should be entertaining. (As yours usually are! Well except the eBikes which I can't bear to watch.)
Whilst your methods are dubious at best, you got a great result. Now I think you should take it to Mako for them to blend the new panels into the same colour as the rest of the car. Also, you need a new drivers door. Don't fix that one.
You can super glue the tyre. No joke. It will hold for a good few years. It it holds air is good. Don't take my word for it. I have a front tyre like this for years. Also depends how old it is. Mine is new. Was new when it got bitten. Put it in the back just to make sure.
Great video. Knew you could do it. You need to pull the apron basically opposite the way the initial impact was - so at an angle to the car. When you pull tap the hammer in the area where the tension due to the impact is. That means right where the part is bent. The hammer and the pull will then release the part to go back the the original shape.
If you do end up selling this wagon; Mike, to cover your xxx legally I would take the wagon to a body shop and let them check the front frame rails. They can bend them up, down, left, right to make sure it's straight. Also get an estimate from a front end shop that the steering and front suspension components are safe to use, not bent broken, etc. You don't want a buyer suing you, You know what I mean. You're doing great fixing the wagon!!!
Think I would have drilled a few holes, in that area you're trying to lift, and used a slide hammer to pull it back into position. Never see the holes with the fender on. Could probably also use a slide hammer on the front of the driver's door dent to pull it back out. What's a ;little bondo between friends. Just thinking do it yourself driveway repairs. ;-)
What a great video Mike!!! I enjoyed watching this video! Can't wait to see the roadtrip video to Oklahoma City for the rest of the parts! I'd *LOVE* to see a video installing the radio and taking it to Mom & Tom's for a honest opinion haha!
If you can't sort out the damage maybe you and Santa's Workshop can collaborate? If you're going to keep it for yourself I guess it doesn't need to be perfect. Looking forward to seeing more progress on this old gal!
You are to tap it were it folded and it's creased. like the side of were it folded down and were the part looks normal. But it's not looking bad. I think it was coming out without the tap.
Looking good, with patience and perseverance you'll have this diamond in the rough perfect before you know it. Looking forward to future updates, Thanks for taking the time to share with us.
Good to see the Progress. Just a little bit at a time. Question how many years did Mercedes make the same General motor type that's in Janice? I'm thinking of a much newer year motor that would possibly serve your purposes versus trying to find an exact motor............ That would be easier than having to retrofit a different motor type time etc. also would love to see some type of a Holly carburetor system to replace the Mercedes fuel pump engine etc........ just ideas would love to see a video discussing the possible solutions with Janice and possible scenarios I'm sure you could make a 10 minute video on that. Maybe people can vote as to what they would like to see you do with Janice........... Thank you for any all consideration!!!!! Great Video !!!!!

As mentioned, all sheet metal on the facelifted model (2000-2003 for wagons) are different from preface lifted from the A pillar forward. This includes the hood, fenders, bumper, headlights etc. Even some of the stuff under the hood are different like the air filter and box. Also the radio harness is different. Facelifted models are CAN controlled
Man your LKQ is getting crazy with their prices. Are those “no warranty” prices ??? I don’t mind spending a little more for convenience, but over $100 for a headlight and radio ???? That’s crazy.
You need to chain the car down to the ground when pulling the apron. Btw, the fender you have is pre-facelift. You need one that isn't squared off under the headlight.
Mikey, after you had a hard working & sweaty day, sit back, relax and enjoy an icy cold Coca Cola or Ice Coffee. A little suggestion, it would be easier if you heat it up a bit the fender support when you pull it, as I saw some PDR guys always heat the metal panel a bit before they do pulling .... Hope it could help !
