Another crushing grand slam by Mr. Kurt Elling, with an extraordinary rendition on the ivories by Kenny Banks Jr., sending this soaring way, way up there--- and it's gone! Splendid. But those darn goosebumps again. Legend!!
I watched this competition on tv, and this was just one of the fabulous players! Cohen won, but Banks was a solid second for me. This performance keeps me coming back, over and over again. Just brilliant, both Banks and, of course, Elling.
Magnificent song interpreted by a great singer that I appreciate (good groove and amplitude in the bass) and a superb young pianist with a bright future...... How intelligent in her piano playing, a treat!!!! Magnifique chanson interprétée par un grand chanteur que j'apprécie (bon groove et amplitude dans le grave) et un superbe jeune pianiste à l'avenir radieux...... Quelle intelligence dans son jeu de piano, un régal !!!!
What a great collaboration between these two. And best yet, it's professionally shot, so it looks and sounds beautiful here on the youtubes. Splendid voice and piano!
A singular performance. Goosebumps to go. This is what you’d to aspire to as a co-soloist. They were one well synced machine. Otherworldly talent on that stage.
I attended this event in Indianapolis. I wish you all could see, hear the interplay with the performers and the audience. This level of Jazz performance stirs the soul! You can truly "feel" it.
The opening 25 seconds sound like the soundtrack from a 90s family drama film! Fascinating. Killer playing and great singing. Love how Kenny nods at the end
Wish I knew what that meant, but heavens to Betsy, I wish I could write a song in "vocalese" and have a perfect accompanist like this. Seems like you'd need a degree in physics, it's so remarkably complicated and lush at the same time.
@@jazzyjeph4143 Hi there! I think you misunderstood what I said. I wasn’t inferring to how he articulates the notes (legato, Staccato etc) but rather to the note pitches he sings that don’t exist in the western 12-tone temperament. These are additional notes used in eastern music which further divide a semitone known as microtones. Going from C to D you pass the semitone C#/Db but in eastern music you can add 2-4 additional notes for example between C and D instead of just the C#/Db.
@@jazzyjeph4143 I didn’t suggest he was thinking what he was singing. I would say he was instead improvising some expressions and in these improvisations he beautiful sung notes that don’t exist in the 12-tone temperament.
This is the bomb! That old white man is bomb! Yo, kenny is....guess what? ....bomb! Seriously, Kenny is insanely amazing and to have his piano be accompanied by such a gifted and talented singer is incredible!
Can you believe he didn't win? The guy that won was technically very skilled - but sounds robotic, lacking any soul, when compared to this heart felt performance by Banks Jr. Love it.
Sang the song sir!!! Why I just threw my phone y'all, glad it still works. And you sir on that piano you betta tickle those keys, I'm done.....
Kenny Banks Jr. gave me chillzzzzzzz
Nice nice nice!
wow that pianist is fabulous...!!!
Holy holy!! Not even understanding how this popped up for me today, but it was a much needed JOY.🙏🏽🔥
So glad!
What a beautiful performance! You can see it that they both know at the end that they did something special
Kenny whispers that's rich, I love it. Boy you betta play that piano 🎹
Keep coming back to this.
So good!!!
Kenny Banks, Kenny Banks, Kenny Banks!! You lift my soul!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️

Amazing
Kurt Elling, a master of jazz. Kenny Banks, loves the piano and is a fabulous player! Congrats!
When 2 "BEASTs" of their respective crafts collide!
I still get goosebumps every time I watch this!
OMG. Chillzzzzz is an understatement. I’ve now played it over and over again for the past week!!!
I can't stop watching this magnificent event!!
Just amazing
This version is simply amazing. Had an 'out-of'body' experience from 3:50-4:10... what was that ?!?! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 WOW Kenny !!!
As special as great !!. I expect that from a fabulous singer like Elling! So inspirational. Kenny Banks is also fantastic.
Best rendition of this song I’ve ever heard!
Kenny, your blues feel is incredible. The articulation, restraint and melodic development you executed here makes this a 12/10.
The opening 25 seconds sound like the soundtrack from a 90s family drama film! Fascinating. Killer playing and great singing. Love how Kenny nods at the end
This is an outstanding performance.... wow super awesome!
Un pianiste extraordinaire avec un chanteur extraordinaire !!!
5:16 Mr Elling knocks down 12-tone equal temperament in the most jazz way ever.
Wish I knew what that meant, but heavens to Betsy, I wish I could write a song in "vocalese" and have a perfect accompanist like this. Seems like you'd need a degree in physics, it's so remarkably complicated and lush at the same time.
All he did was slur a note. Sometimes it's better to take things for what they are

So good; thanks for sharing!
Love it!
Wonderful!!!’🥰🥰🥰
super soulful
Not me having the stank face throughout the while video. That was so classy and ugh. My feeeeels are everywhere
À whole spiritual experience baby, I thought I was in church. Kurt with the vocals and Kenny on that piano, I was done
Powerful precision. Love this
Willie "The Lion" Smith would be very happy with Mr. Banks playing. Mr. Elling is just amazing!
Stunning, playing moonlight thro the pines.
Beautiful and original rendition, love it! ❤️
No me canso de verlo . Que maestría por Dios!!
👏👏👏👏
sublime.
Guau... qué pianista!!! Sumado a esa voz... qué se puede decir!!
¡Muchas gracias!
So nice so Goodyear.
Kurt is one 'Ell of a vocalist and I love the touch of the Eroll Garner like influence of the pianist too!
Kurt Elling, beautiful as usual.🎶 Play that piano.🙌🏾👌🏽🔥 #Nasty #YesSir #KurtElling #Pianist

The pianist is so hip
Fucking Masterful....wow
Lindosssss👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😂😂😂💪🙌🙌💪💪👏👏👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Give Kenny a Fazioli piano 🎹 and tell him to play it again, we will all cry.

Kurt is in his 50s, that's not an old person. Maybe at 80??

Can random mutation and natural selection account for this deal of complexity???
Throws a SERIOUS wrench in my chaos beliefs ...
WON-DER-FUL
the pianist is developing dowager's hump... straighten up & fly right...
Another example of How Kurt Elling went from soaring jazz prodigy to boring crooner.
