OMG ...i cannot believe that anyone can interpret songs as beautiful as this. I'm 81 years old...and I thought I heard it all....I am a session keyboard musician...I've played with them all....Miles, Bird, Lester, Chet, Stan, Shelly etc etc etc....but this guy just simply blows me away. Is there anything more beautiful than a great song, great lyrics, great music and great interpretation. I keep getting blown away every day when I come across stuff like this...it tells me that I am still on the learning curve!!!! I love this man's work. This is what Jazz and the evolution of the art form is all about!!.
Yes!!! Great comment! I am a singer and Kurt is - perfection. I can hear him all day. When your soul sings! God-given talent! 🎤 these musicians are great too...
If you are not moved by Kurt’s singing and all the musicians’ performance, then you need to check yourself for vital signs! This was absolutely stellar! Thanks for posting! ❤️
Just asked my husband to purchase tickets for the Jazz cruise in January of 2023, just so that I can see and hear him perform. I hope my Captain makes it happen.!
This man’s voice is extraordinary!! He just blows me away. His interpretation of this song is incredible. It’s a joy to listen him sing a song and make it his and his alone!!!!!
Saw Kurt Elling and this band perform these songs at a free concert in Lewiston, NY a few years ago. It was one of the highlights of my life. I claimed a space close to the stage early in the afternoon and waited there until 7:30 when Mr. Elling appeared. During that time, an 82 year old jazz pianist waited with me and we had a total blast. Unforgettable.
All the great instrumental jazz musicians I've listened to over the years, including this band, for me there is no instrument that touches the soul more than the human voice. Kurts' voice is as pure as they come. Thank you Bruno for posting this!
Love these interpretations from Kurt Elling. He's so fresh even years later. I wouldn't jump out on a ledge and say that these are better than the originals, but I love the fresh takes and odd tempos, and chord changes on Stevie's GL are so in step with what cats are doing. Nothing but love.
Saw em do a set in Wolfsburg.. The drummer heard me playing Giant Steps on the piano (slow bossa version w/0 Pat's double time rocketry) i heard "GIANT STEPS!!" from way across the room. I guess he was delighted to hear it played in a 5 star hotel loungey lobby. He introduced me to Kurt and band, put me on the guest list. They were very good, but no where near this good. I was surprised I'd never heard or heard of his great pianist. The band, and Kurt are so next next level here. The solid, soulfully laid down backdrop he gave the guitarist at the end was..whew... you tell me. no words.
@@fredericlegros6690 You should look at The Triple Door in Seattle. I live in Olympia, WA and it's only a short drive for me, but we always stay overnight at a downtown hotel, which like downtown Portland can be pricey. But worth every penny. There's also Dimitrios Jazz Alley. Great small venues!!
@@fredericlegros6690 Oops! I just noticed it said Poland! Not Portland, OR, USA! So sorry!! He does come to Europe. Keep waiting and maybe someday! His show was FANTASTIC!!
@@jgsdpd Unfortunately, I've never been to Portland. I am a retired French expatriate in Poland. I'm sure Kurt's show is great. I will wait, because he has already come to Poland. Take care of you. Best regards.
Nice version of Golden Lady indeed ....he makes it his own. and it is great that he makes the EWF song his own too. Beautiful voice. The band is outstanding!
Kurt sings a beautiful "River Man" with Lee Ritenour. It's the first I ever heard him and now I'm hooked. I was shocked when I saw him because his voice sounds like that of a black man; beautifully rich and deep. He surprised me when he spoke German.
A perfect summation of what Jazz actually is: the finest of the most refined ingredients allowed to mix, mingle, saturate, and stew in order to produce the most exquisite concoction of unbelievable flavours that stimulate the wanting palate.. This performance, especially that of Kurt’s, was exceptionally delicious.
I was introduced to Kurt's talent whilst I was lying in my bed listening to a late night radio show that was being broadcast from Dublin, Ireland ( Lyric FM's 'The Blue of the Night') . The song that I heard was titled ' In The Wee Small Hours' and I hadn't got a clue who Kurt was or what he looked like. This is the first time that I have found out what Kurt looks like and amazingly he looks exactly how I envisaged that he would ! (LOL)
Yes, Kurt is great! saw him live in a club in Paris, and it's been an awesome evening... Do not forget these top notch musicians and the great work from John MLean (that was already with Kurt in that concert in Paris).
Wonderful! I love that Kurt Elling does fresh interpretations of contemporary music. I loved both songs - especially Golden Lady - dare I say even better that the original?! His voice was just so suited to that song. And I loved the drum solo, too.
I can't help but wonder how David Foster looked after hearing this interpretation of this song. I also wonder how Maurice White would have responded to this interpretation. Kurt Elling can do no wrong to a song. Golden Lady is simply reborn. Chills.
Heard Kurt Elling on some small town jazz station, and became a fan, he has a beautiful voice, started listening only very recently -Nice to hear new and different singing artists.
8:01 Not many people can cover my favorite song by Stevie, and do it any justice. Kurt ATE. Took me right away...9:56 I got so tickled because that beat got real good to him right there! Lol
Cara, não conhecia esse excelente cantor, não consigo parar de ouvi-lo, super afinado, extremamente jazzistico e de uma força monumental musicalmente falando ❤️❤️❤️❤️
wow just recently discovered this Gem listening to my local community run radio station, plus he's playing in town this weekend, already sold out. what a talent!
John McLean is nothing short of a genius. He’s brilliant, soft spoken and a man of few words. My dream is to become his red guitar for one night. I’m hoping to see the May concert of the Florida Jazz Festival. It’s been too long.
I have seen Kurt when he was a special guest of the Branford Marsalis quartet at the Smith Center in Las Vegas. Fantastic all around, especially Practical Arrangement. Concerning Stevie Wonder, he should cover Seems So Long.
Elling is appealing even if many of his song choices fall way short of Great American Songbook material (favored by Bird, Bud, Sinatra, Van Heusen, Riddle). But what he does with a song that depended on 1970's group singing (E, W and F.),, visuals (dancing) and electronics makes this performance special. (Still, I miss the disco trimmings.)

Couldn't agree more. Nice one.

I could die tonight and heard the best of the best. And I've been to Newport!
WOW to Kurt and to you!👏
In the first song, it felt like he was thinking of a long lost love... As we all are.
That's a Scorpio for you he can go all over the place and then make sense in the end congratulations Kurt great job
R2for u

Been loving his voice since Flirting With Twilight. Such a heavenly voice...
Kurt is simply the finest jazz singer I have ever heard.
Just asked my husband to purchase tickets for the Jazz cruise in January of 2023, just so that I can see and hear him perform. I hope my Captain makes it happen.!
I LOVE him & Gregory Porter...
😱that would be the perfect pair
They've been my two of my favs for awhile as well. Such big, rich voices.
This man’s voice is extraordinary!! He just blows me away. His interpretation of this song is incredible. It’s a joy to listen him sing a song and make it his and his alone!!!!!
His Piano Player/Musical Director Laurence Hobgood is Killin'. They don't work 2gether anymore but they were a wonderful marriage of music.
Sadness!!!

Shocking Absolutely Shocking Co Creator's Kurt Elling and Crew Shocking God's Love.
So beautiful - what feeling!!! He sings with such power and emotion. This made me cry.
I’ve been a big fan of Kurt Elling, but props to his incredible band
I cant count the number of chills Golden Lady gave me .....it is phenomenal. He really puts everything into his singing, with nothing left at the end.
Wowwww!!!!! The one and only Kurt Elling!!! Wowwwwwww. And Ulysses on the drums. So funky and good!!!!!
Kurt stays invited to the cookout, y'all.
haha
The cookout is in Kurt's backyard, you're gonna need the invite..

Kurt Elling has such a beautiful voice and unique take on everything he sings. A jazzy interpretation I love.
After The Love Has Gone is so incredible... really best version I've never heard!

So truw his voice is spiritual
