This was written by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits about the Falkland Islands war between the UK and Argentina. He later said it was a tribute to soldiers everywhere. I tear up every single time I hear this version. It's so powerful!
many thanks to Mark Knopfler for writing such an emotional, powerful piece of music, performed well in this cover........"we're fools to make war on our brothers in arms"........amen
strange comment but... I love that austin and rob were only back ground and tim and chance were able to take the lead for the whole song. it shows the respect they all have for each others tallents.
Walked into my husband's home office Friday afternoon. He was listening and listening again to this. He looked almost shocked. He was in the army and then the Navy. He was living the words and music. I didn't want to impose my feelings on him, so I backed out of the room. The echo makes you feel like your emotions are raw and rippling out and touching another. Beautifully sung.
I totally get your husbands reaction I am a 30 year Infantry veteran spent four years in the Devils Sandbox.... even though I dont know your husband carry on brother
There are No Words.. They are that Amazing.. every hair on my body is standing up.. This is why I love Home Free so much.. Their talent is out of this world..🏡🆓🏡🍟💓💓💓💓
To any veteran, active duty or military family members seeing this: If I were able to personally thank you for my freedom, it would never be enough. Your sacrifices mean so much to me. God bless you ❤️
My brother, your reaction just screams "I'm a Patriotic Citizen of the USA! I know that I'm late to your party, but I have to say from a Red Neck White boy from northern Michigan: I absolutely love your "from the heart" reactions to Home Free's music. I'm with you, Brother and fellow "Home Fry."
This is why we love Home Free they are not only great singers they are good people and show their love for our country and they show so much respect for all people I'm going to see them in 2 weeks can't wait
For as powerful as the lyrics are, the way Tim and Chance kept their tones breathy and gentle. And Tim's ability to sing so low and still inject such emotion into those low notes. Home Free has definitely released another thought provoking message video. They've once again brought an important conversation to the table. For those people that don't feel this in their very soul, you have my condolences. Thank you for your reaction, I've been checking all day to see when you'd hit this one! And don't feel like you're alone in having trouble trying to find words. Pretty much every reactor I've seen has had the same problem. Great reaction as always! 🙏❤❤
For those that know the original ,they pay great homage to it ( it starts with Mark Knopfler singing way low ) but at the same time making it their own
Did someone already mention the song came out in the 80s by Dire Straits on the song titled album. 'Why Worry' was a beautiful aswell but wow...i was a kid then who could feel its immensity but not really cognitively comprehending them, so leaning into those lyrics now has me weeping at work... Also i LOVE your love for music and meaning and beauty bro
I am a proud wife and mother of Army. This song with its vocals and lyrics hit so close to home. Only God above knows how close I came to losing my oldest in Afghanistan. I got chills and had tears running down my face. Thank you home free for this tribute and I pray some day we will all see their sacrifice as a special honor.
Their version just emotes sad, longing emotions that tears are trying to fall. You spend most of the song fighting back tears and trying to listen to the fabulous vocals and harmonies. Just a wonderful version from Home Free but we have all come to expect that , but they always deliver!
If I had never heard the original, this would be even more heart rending. The simplicity of Mark Knopfler/Dire Straights’ original is stunning… the Home Free boys have given the song a whole new depth with the beauty and reverence of their rendition. Loving your channel btw.
I agree this is the most emotionally powerful song Home Free has ever done. Tim's deep, haunting voice. It almost sounds like he's whispering but so clearly, and emotionally. It cuts through to your heart. Add to that Chance's more vibrant part which just pops out at you. Then those harmonies and you have a masterpiece. To me, this is the best thing they have done to date. Thank you, for your reaction. I was waiting for it. I saw your comment under their video last night and got excited.
Oh, I agree! I have done my share of singing with a pipe organ, and that is EXACTLY what it sounds like! And as the daughter of a WW2 vet and the mother of a Marine who fought in Iraq.....this hit home with me. I can't listen to it without tearing up. It's positively ethereal. Great reaction.
The sound is like a human pipe organ ….. and the use of their images ghosted against the windows were the panes were visible through them was masterful. I showed this to a Marine ….. who had to walk outside for a few moments
Always enjoy your reactions but this combination of the song, harmonies plus your reaction created a reaction in me I didn’t expect. I agree Tim was perfect to take the lead. The deepness of his voice provided that effect of haunting and solemn.
I like the use of light on them, it almost shined through them as if they were ghosts. This song was beautiful and I can understand why you are reaching for words. I can’t express what this song makes me feel.
Tim is the best bass singer and he can sing high to you don't see that in to mine bass singer can do that but if you want to here a bass singer go listen to Elvis Presley he got a bass singer he's name is jd soumer
This sounds so much richer because all five of them were singing. There wasn’t any percussion in it, just beautiful harmonies. I think this is the best song they’ve ever done
I think Dire Straits did it better, but maybe because Mark Knoffler's voice is just burned in my brain. This song and 'Why Worry Now' have got me through many a tough moment. it is however a beautiful homage!
@@juninekeala5589 I also prefer the Dire Straights version. This was well done as always, but when I want to listen to that song, I'll play the original version.
I remember when the Dire Straits version came out and everytime I hear it it makes me cry. Mark Knopfler voice is incredible. This version though it's like angels singing
Wow! Just wow! It's been decades since I've heard this song and hearing this brought on such emotion! To all of our brothers and sisters in arms who have served overseas and shed blood defending the red, white and blue, a most humble thank you.
It makes me feel like we are hearing from the other side. What a performance. Yes, Chances' voice was beautiful relief after Tim's bass verse. Tim had me trembling.
Hauntingly beautiful vocals from the guys from Home Free. Tim almost looks 'ghost' like standing in front of the window. Delivered with such emotion and respect for the fallen men & women and for those of them still serving. I love bass singers....and Tim is one of the best along with Avi Kaplan. Such a depth of sound sends chills through me. Nick I love your facial expressions and analysis of the performance here.
I can’t even think about what to write…. But your reaction is a fitting tribute to their excellence. They outdid themselves this time, both vocally, and with the video.
All I could think of listening & watching this video was the futility of war in any country. There are no winners only losers. I have always loved this song by Dire Straits but think Home Free did an excellent version of this song. Tim's natural bass was awesome & so were all the guys doing 5 part harmonies.
It's very rare that a song starts off with a bass solo but this really worked for this song. Those harmonies gave off such an eerie reverence and just captures your soul. These guys are so incredibly talented. Loved this song, loved the message and Love Home Free!
I waited until your reaction to watch the video. So I experienced at the same time as you. Exactly! My goose bumps had goose bumps! To bring Tim in right off the bat with that low tone commanded your attention! This feeling your feeling is their voice moving your spirit deep inside your bones. What a beautiful arrangement they created. So reverent and soulful. A very spiritual and moving piece of music. Thank you for your awesome reaction!
Rob is the middle glue that brings those harmonies so beautifully together with his. That bass, along with their harmony sounds like an organ playing in an empty room that echoes. Haunting.
Awesome Reaction Video! Love this Song by Home Free! They put their own spin on all songs they do! We love Home Free! Of course you too! Lol We have 4 seats in December and close to the stage
I could not wait to see your face when Tim was going to hit that first few notes and you did just what I expected! Eyes popped wide open and mouth too! lol. It's amazing. And I agree with you, Tim doesn't do many songs where he sings full deep bass, so little bits here and there and of course, the deep growl. But I love hearing him sing the full on bass solo. He did a couple of those with Chris Rupp if you haven't listened to them sing duets together. But this was special. And then the incredible tenor arrangements in the background. And how it all ended on that organ-like chord! Incredible and powerful. Agree with you, others are saying the harmonies almost brought them to tears. That's what I love is the tight, tight harmonies and chords that are like an organ would be. Thanks so much. Take care.
The music they are creating is so gorgeous it actually makes your heart hurt and the message tears at your soul. Home Free are the most human humans there are. I love them more and more all the time.
Nick, I couldn't wait to hear your analysis !!! I knew it was going to be special & it was. This is, yes sir, a masterpiece by Home Free...this is as good as acapella can get. Of course it's perfect for the upcoming Veterans Day holiday sd well to honor all those who have been brothers & sisters in arms and have sacrificed it all for us. I am so glad you appreciate this incredible & moving piece of art by Home Free.

Wow that song was beautiful, and your reaction was exactly the way the song was sang to make you feel just that.. That you for being real.....Feels like they "singing respect to the fallen souls"
Don't apologize! Those of us who may not know how difficult these vocal runs are to produce, appreciate you taking the time to explain things. Never apologize for sharing what you know with others.

If you can temporarily forget base and harmony is the fact they use a perfect delivery so you do not miss a single word of a powerful message.
The song is a soldier dying and talking to his comrades.
