I have just recently discovered this group Home Free and don't know how I have not found them before. They are the best vocal group I have ever heard and I have found myself liking their renditions of songs that I didn't care much for the original. I was instantly a huge fan!
Thankfully you completely understood the point that even the "enemy" is a brother in arms doing the bidding of leaders. This song is so poignant about the human condition and is beautifully rendered.
This is such an exceptional song in the 1st place by Dire Straits, and that guitar solo, and Home Free & replaces that with those amazing harmonies as almost no one else can do ! Stunning visually too...I like the "ghosting effect" when they had Chance up against the Window...simply a SUBLIME song by Home Free and Jeff you were awesome with the reaction....keep on your Home Free journey !!
the arrangement was by "club for five" but Home free managed to make it better yet again and "In this song, Mark Knopfler sings about a soldier who is dying on the battlefield, surrounded by his comrades, who remain by his side as he slips away. It's a look at the folly of war and the plight of those who fight them. "We've got just one world but we live in different ones," he told the BBC. "It's just stupid, it really is. We're just foolish to take part in anybody's war.""
released right after the Falkland Islands war of the early 1980's........many thanks to Mark Knopfler for writing such an emotional, powerful piece of music, performed well in this cover........."we're fools to make war on our brothers in arms"........amen
Wow! If “heavy” is not your jam......it NEEDS to be! We could ALL use a dash of remembrance, honor, respect for one another and integrity! I loved this reaction. I LOVED THIS COVER!
Mark Knopfler originally wrote this in 1982 about the Falklands War, because the veterans of that conflict suffered greatly for being there. It's so haunting and beautiful. I'm glad HF was able to give it the gravity it deserved.
Mark, like so many of us, was sickened by the pointlessness of the Falklands War. The veterans on both sides were deeply affected by so much suffering for the sake of some rocks in a war which could easily have been avoided.
This song hits like a truck. The harmonies are so reminiscent of a pipe organ it gives the song a reverent aura. It is some of the best harmonies they have done.
This is an absolutely haunting rendition of an already somber song. I'm not sure what key this song is written in, but Tim drops down to ( and holds!) a G#1. It makes a number of points: citizens should recognize and honor their veterans and active service men; armies on each side of a battle recognize the sacrifices, suffering, pain and fear their counterparts are dealing with; and ... war is a sign that Civilization has failed.
Hauntingly beautiful....The vocals of Tim at the beginning just hits you right in the heart. The harmonies are sublimely both warming and chilling. Sung with such respect to the fallen hero and to those who still serve. Congratulations Home Free you are BRILLAINT!
Fun fact, just to lighten the mood, Tim’s faithful and cuddle giant white dog named Sachamo, is laying between Chances feet while he sang his lead part. They didn’t make him move, they just filmed around him! The Dog has been known to steal a live concert spotlight by either coming on stage or peeking under the back curtain.
I've seen this 20+ times now, mostly by reactors. The original Dire Straits made me cry. Home Free made me cry. Now your reaction did the same. You're a thoughtful little buggar, aren't you?! 😏 Thank you 💕
I love this song, another masterpiece from HF. Tim and Chance's voices are phenomenal. Tim's super deep bass sends goosebumps down my spine. A very emotional song that hasn't lost any of its relevance. These guys did a damn good job, wow! Thanks for the great reaction!
Yes! re: a message for all of us. Tim's direct look as he sings "We're fools to make war on our brothers in arms" We HAVE been presented with a common enemy that cares not for our differences. If there has ever been a time to put them away and pull together, now is it.
Yes, yes, yes. Love your reaction. I agree with you. So rich, so hauntingly beautiful. Love Tim’s low notes. Loved the echoes. Tim and Chance looked ghost like in the windows. Just stunning.
My Daddy served with the AAF in WW2, and my son served 21 years in the Corps, including a tour in Iraq in '03....so this song strikes a chord with me. Good reaction, and I am a new subscriber. Those last 2 notes.....definitely sound exactly like a pipe organ. A masterpiece!
Thank you for putting my thoughts into words, yes war is horrible and humans seem to be prone to killing each other. And yes, sometimes necessary. Ths is maybe Home Frees BEst, so beautiful and superbly crafted. Please, would love to hear more Home Free reactions from you.
Awesome reaction! Thank you so much! This is absolutely Phenomenal! Completely broke me down and cried like a baby! Still crying every time I hear it! I love Home Free so much and respect them for unapologetically standing up for their convictions and beliefs! I appreciate how they encourage love, peace, good will and unity to all people everywhere! They truly are an inspiration and blessing to me, helping me more than they could possibly know. I call Home Free Minister's of Music! No matter what genre of music! The songs, video's and their gorgeous harmonies lift me up and bring me to a place where I feel as if I am actually receiveing healing in my body, mind and spirit. This performance is so powerful and makes me feel almost like I'm in the presence of Angels and that our favorite guys are standing on Holy Ground! Home Free are Wonderfully and Amazingly talented but even more than that they are beautiful, caring and kindhearted gentlemen! Just downright good and decent people! ❤️😀🍟
What I love about Home Free is that they have a remarkable way to relate to their songs. They're goofy and hilarious when the song demands it. And then they do this. No bells and whistles, nothing but five still, solemn men, bringing a serious song so beautifully. It touches me every time I hear it.
When my boys sing in 5 part harmony is always breathtaking and beautiful! Adam Rupp isn’t only a best beatboxer his vocals added must be considered when the band calls him a freak of nature.
This is one of, if not the best, song they've done so far. Simply because of the harmonies and Tim's unbelievable depth. The description that comes to mind for me is hauntingly beautiful. It gives me chills and makes my eyes tear up, every single time I hear it. I'm sure you noticed when Tim and Chance are each shown in front of the window, it makes them appear to be ghosts because you can "see through" them. But my third time to watch the video it hit me....those images are also a reverse image of the POW-MIA flag, just white background and black figure instead. I love Home Free and this is just another example why. 🇺🇸
The moment that started my menopause reminded me I will and can cry at the drop of a hat. But sooo Beautiful !! I need to go and like this on their page as well. Great reaction as well.
HAHA, I love Alton Brown, my favorite celebrity chef! DEATH TO UNITASKERS!! Except the pineapple slicer/corer, that one is worth it! :D I love this version of Brothers in Arms, I think it will replace the Dire Straits version for veterans funerals. Peace, love and happiness to all my brothers and sisters on this amazing planet. Keep striving for peace and being kind to one another. Love you all so much!
I am loving your reactions to Home Free! Your reactions are refreshing. There's not a lot of over the top technicality in your comments and you aren't talking just to hear yourself talk. I also love that you don't pause constantly. Thank you for such great and entertaining reactions. I can't wait to see many more Home Free reactions from you!!
This incredible performance supported by the amazing videography is fitting for the times we are in. It’s a reminder of the sacrifices that we’re made, for us to live as free men and women.
This is a hauntingly beautiful song. I loved the echoes in the background. The last note was phenomenal for sure. Truly enjoyed watching your reaction to this video.
Completely agree about Brothers in Arms meaning all humans, including ourselves. The roughest, toughest add most devastating wars that goes on address within ourselves with ourselves and that's what's causing wars outside of us. Nobody who's at peace with themselves will ever deliberately choose to do anything that is hurtful to another. Everything begins with us, with me (because I'm me and with you because your your me). Whatever we want to see in the world around us truly has to begin within us. Thanks for the reaction! I loved it. 🥰🙏
HomeFree is one of those groups that absolutely have no problem with covering or writing songs that bring out emotions in people and they never shy away from songs that may be deemed borderline controversial. I've been a home fry since I seen them do Cruise on The Sing Off. I have yet to see a group that can touch them when it comes to 5 part harmonies.
Great reaction as always, my friend. I love when you use the Goosebumps visual, and it was necessary so many times in this stunning Home Free performance. I've run out of superlatives to describe these gentlemen.
This is actually a cover of a cover. Home Free covered Club For Five, with their blessings. Tuukka, the bass for Club for Five, is one of Tim's inspirations and mentors. Club For Five is Finnish.
All I could think of listening & watching this video was the futility of war in any country. There are no winners only losers. I have always loved this song by Dire Straits but think Home Free did an excellent version of this song. Tim's natural bass was awesome & so were all the guys doing 5 part harmonies.
Ethereal. Haunting. Gut wrenching. Soul stirring. Angelic. The only thing missing was the seraphic choir backing them up. Excuse me while I track down my soul and stuff it back into my body...
Great reaction. I sum this track up as hauntingly beautiful. BTW (although I'm a grandmother in her 60's) we have several things in common. My son grew up on the Goosebumps books which makes me smile every time you show one. I'm a big fan of Spinal Tap and love your dial. I lived for many years in Arlington and on walks my husband and I would sometime go up the hill to Dimebag Darrel's house. We only saw it through a fence, but it was really cool. And finally, I am also a member of Alton Brown's Hate the Unitasker club. :)
Hi Charna! Thank you so much for watching with such attention to the details. I grew up with Goosebumps books and even still have some. The turn it up to 11 is one of my favorite Spinal Tap moments 😆 The other is them getting lost looking for the stage lol. Or tiny stone henge. As for Dime, I was so heartbroken when he died. I was in my Metallica cover band when I heard and was just gutted. He and Vinnie are both gone way too soon. Dime is in my top 5 favorite guitarists of all time. Such a great player and I’ve always heard he was the kindest dude. Thanks for watching! I’ll start posting again soon 🤘🏼🤘🏼
@@MetalGuyReacts I have a story I think you'll enjoy. In 2003 Michael Mc Kean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer appeared in A Might Wind a Christopher Guest mockumentary about folk singers. They played as a group called The Folksmen. At that time they occasionally still toured as Spinal Tap. On one tour they opened for themselves as The Folksmen and got booed off the stage to shouts of "We want Spinal Tap!" The audience never realized that it was the same three guys. BTW, my son still has his whole Goosebumps collection in storage. If I can put in a request, it would be great if you would react to some of Austin's solo work from his channel. "Brother's in Arms" has been my all time fav Dire Straits song since it first came out in '85 & never fails to move me to the verge of tears. The lead-in of the light guitar notes mixed with the storm... the thought provoking lyrics Knopfler's soulful & absolutely ICONIC guitar... Funnily I am watching your reaction now as Ukraine gives their all to combat Putin's troops. This song hits hard. Isn't it also too bad that we couldn't all fight the Covid battle with some sort of unity instead of taking sides. Just a thought...
Hey Kuypers! Thanks for checking in. A combo of family stuff and work required me to step back. I have plans of starting back up in the next month or so 👍🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
OK maybe you can tell me y no-one in Canada tills me thank you for your service but in the US people are thanking people with only 3 years that have never left the country and most were sent there to avoid jail time. I was in the Canadian air force for 15years ( 22 different countries some good some so bad it was hard ) my dad was in the Korean war and my grand father was crimpled from ww2 but now one says thank you to use
Falklands war 1982 what are the chances of going to another country to fight another army from again a different country only to find among the enamy there are men speaking a European language older than Spanish from your own country the language Welsh descendents of Welsh miners who went to Argentina in the 1900s how close do you have to be a brother some with the same name as you could even be a cousin if not a brother
By the way, Tim Foust does fund raising for veterans charities and Austin often joins him in doing them.

This is by far their best work vocally. Their haunting harmonies more than makeup for the guitar in the original from Dire Straights back in 1985.
Their harmonies in helplessly hoping are also so damn good, i would say that's their best work.
@@TheQuadFather45 I thought so too until they did Brothers in Arms....the harmonies without words.....
I agree 💯
Thank Club of Five for giving Home Free their arrangement of this song.

I tear up every time (so far) I hear Tim start singing.
Loved your reaction! ❤️ If you haven't already, be sure to read their comment in the description of their video.

they also did a ft with Oak Ridge Boys "Elvira"
and another ft with the Air Force and Lee Greenwood in "God Bless The USA"
