    around here most of our roofs are shingles and the new metal roofs the type you show are slowly going away but your way of roofing is the correct way to fix an older home roof

    Clean the seam a bit and coat with Through The Roof. The thicker version of Lexel.

    So how do people seal this without walking on roof ? Especially around holes that where made gif venting ect ?

    • @jeremiahmaccabee312
      @jeremiahmaccabee312 2 года назад +3

      I think he meant walking on the seams. But for the most part you can stand on the ladder and use a roller to put new sealant on.

    • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair
      @Drewsroofingandhomerepair  2 года назад +6

      From a ladder leaning on the house. Use a painting pole and 3/4 mat 8 inch roller. If you have to get up be sure you only walk on the roof rafters and not between them. Or bring a 3x4 ft of OSB or plywood to sit on. No one over 230 should even be on 1 at all. At least until you do what I do with the OSB and rubber roofing.

    Can you safely walk on the roof? I'm nervous my husband's going up. We just bought a 1975 double wide he's a master carpenter

    • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair
      @Drewsroofingandhomerepair  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, you can walk safely on a roof. If you’re careful, you have to watch where you’re stepping. Make sure to step on the rafters not in the center or we can just do it off a ladder.

  • @johnbrzenksforearm8295

    Hey Drew. Would it be over-kill to just tape and cold seal the seams and then cold seal the whole roof? Or should I just tape the obvious leaking seams and then coldseal?

      Fix the obvious things first use this step first

    Those gutters are about 4 times bigger than the little things they called gutters on my old place. Glad I've tossed them and will be putting standard 4 inch gutters when I get to that step.

    • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair
      @Drewsroofingandhomerepair  2 года назад +1

      How will you stop the water from going behind the gutters

    • @thesomewhathandyman9400
      @thesomewhathandyman9400 2 года назад +1

      @@Drewsroofingandhomerepair I'm going with EPDM and I'll put the termination bar at the top part of the gutter and let an inch or twp hang down into the gutter on the bottom side of the termination bar.

      That’s the way we used to do it I’ll show you a video. You do not have to incorporate the overhang if you do not want to.
      The way we used to do it. Is the way you want to do it now and it can be done.

    My pops has never lived in a mobile home…he’s a contractor or carpenter…whichever the title might be lol…he builds additions and does just about anything that a home requires for repairs …but he told me my roof was in great shape a year or so ago when he put new tar paint on the roof….we’ve done the roofing tar every so many years…but I had a tree limb fall into the roof last summer and had to climb up to the roof myself….after seeing this video, I know pops had no clue what he was looking at…according to what this video is saying…my roof is needing completely replaced or repaired somehow lol….there’s so many seams that are popping up and can see under the seems in a lot of them….the sides where the gutters and the roof meet up are showing where the water is leaking past the gutters and onto the siding…so it’s surely leaking inside the walls…I guess it’s time to consider spending the money on a roof and gutters so the entire home doesn’t deteriorate any quicker….it’s a constant project lol

      Clean up the caulking it is on that bottom edge. Use Lexxel it’s a much better caulking and you can buy it at Lowe’s or Home Depot and then after you sealed it real well and it is dry reseal With Cool Seal this job will be coming up

    Hey Drew do you know when they stopped using asbestos in popcorn ceilings?

    • @jeremiahmaccabee312
      @jeremiahmaccabee312 2 года назад +1

      1978. However, as companies were still allowed to use what they already had in stock, it is possible that new popcorn ceilings well into the 80s still had asbestos in them.

    • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair
      @Drewsroofingandhomerepair  2 года назад +3

      Oddly enough my aunt's trailer had popcorn ceiling until about 4 years ago. It was in looking up clean ways to remove it that I found out about the asbestos that used to be used in older versions. Luckily, her trailer is a 1995 model.

    • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair
      @Drewsroofingandhomerepair  2 года назад +2

      I don’t think they’ve used asbestos in mobile home ceilings in a long time and if you spray it with water let it sit it will scrape off easily. Obviously you want to put lots of plastic on the floor
