Sure, women were prettier and feminine, with often an exquisite voice. Now most US females look like sows and sound like a computer, when they speak. Even a non-American can notice that. American accent from the 30's to 60's was the most pleasant to hear, compared to the standard British accent of the London area; never mind those horrible English regional dialects and their awful accents.

Well, it happens more often than you think. You just have to be looking for stories about it. Not all wrongful convictions get press, even ones that get overturned. Other times, a judge acknowledges problems, but insists that the previous ruling will hold. Our system has flaws and many men get life wrongfully. As for the death penalty, I don't know how common it is for a man to be wrongfully hanged. Sometimes a poor reputation and bad decision makes juries believe that a person who is not guilty really is.

I can't understand why so many people deride the poverty row crews and casts. OK, besides Charles Arnt, the rest of the cast in this one were not that well known. But they were excellent actors, giving super performances in this movie. Some of the best, most original movies made in Hollywood are 1930s B movies. By the time the 1940s rolled around, so many cliches and formula plots (and sloppy acting) had already set in.
Technically, this isn't a film noir, because it hasn't got the required noir ending of complete, devastating hopelessness, but that's a small point.

Although there were times when I was wondering when they were ever going to actually execute the man. That part dragged a little. But it's a good film noir and interesting story line.

Interesting story, scene set-ups, acting, and editing. Sh#t. The main character couldn't look more like my dad did at that age if my dad played the character himself; it wasn't until the end of the movie that I caught that the character's name was "Bill"--same as my father. Kinda freaky. Interesting movie, though!

This movie is surreal but is similar to The Green Mile starring Tom Hanks which also is a gripping film. Hollywood seems to take ideas from older movies, that's how I see it anyway.
