Talking to customers and learning their needs is key! Your techs are the face of your company and your best contact with each customer. I kinda love that you’re not a locksmith, it gives a different perspective #lockboss
It is so refreshing to hear about someone that cares enough about keeping quality employees and is smart enough to know that good employees are good for business. Michael is a truly a #Lockboss
Not leaving money on the table, letting the customer know what options they have, what services you can also help them with while not hard selling, being willing to sharing the wealth with the techs, all really great ideas that can make everyone better off. Great video this week. #Lockboss
This is very interesting, I'm still new and self learning from home. I plan on just working myself and not having techs because I live outside of a smaller college town with not much competition. I also work full time at another job, so locksmthing will be a part time gig for me until i build it up, which at this point will take a while. Still, this was great to see what bigger businesses like to do for their employees. #Lockboss
Thanks a lot for an excellent and innovative business talk. It's always helpful and profitable to communicate with the customers. Techs words are more trustworthy than a that of a career salesman. This is a video that worth watching over and over again! Thanks. #Lockboss
Super interesting discussion in this episode! Definitely need to find those folks with the drive to get better and increase their own sales, and invest in them to help them and your business succeed! #lockboss
This is super cool to listen to. I am apprentice/tech i’ve been doing it for about eight months and loving it. It was neat to hear these perspective of the boss /grownups table😂 #Lockboss
Very good understanding of how to motivate employees to do the right thing by picking the right things to attach income to. Also good customer service involves helping the customer get everything they need! However this whole process requires having someone who is proficient with numbers and statistical review.
Thanks for this episode. So many great information and advice to learn from different #lockboss leaders in the industry. I need to learn to slow down on the task and learn to observe other opportunities to benefit the customer and me in up sale or give other options for the customer. Thanks I learned a lot today
#Lockboss. Great discussion! I think we are all guilty of just getting the job done, and going to the next one. I think His process is a very good idea.
This is an interesting take on the thinking outside the box for service workers, might even lead towards changing the way lockshops charge...should we chage a service + job + parts or job + parts... Food for thought #lockboss
Great video, and I like long formats like this. I feel that locksmiths starting out need a nitch such as residential high security or institution locksmithing. #LockBoss
Customer service is a sales role for everyone. We are not one and done you have to remember they will recommend you to soo many if your " sales pitch of your customer service " #Lockboss for the win
It's always good to hear what successful companies are doing; this helps me in my business and gives me ideas for a business plan in the future when I look to add technicians. #Lockboss
A lot to unpack and consider in this episode. Great information about empowering techs to showcase their skill set which leads to more money and confidence.#lockboss
With family owned businesses it's always extremely tough to make the employees feel they are being properly compensated for the success of the owner. This should be viewed as an opportunity to reward your employees ,vrs as in a Corporate structure where they can feel that they are just a "cog in the wheel". Extra rewards for superior performance can help to make those employees feel that they are a part of the success of your business. Profit sharing is one of the ways, as a prudent #lockboss.
Locksmith tech should make no less than 35.00 per hour if he is a seasoned locksmith and he he should also get 20% per job and also get health care benefits also
I've never been one for the upsell thing... Just doesn't feel good to me. If the customer has security concerns, or wants more flexibility with their access options, of course I'll make them aware of things they might not know about. Interesting conversation. #Lockboss
You work, you get paid, don’t work you don’t get paid. I’ve worked trucking (13 1/2 yrs), Automotive, Semi Trucks & Trailers, Welding, Food service delivery. In food service delivery we had ABC pay, Activity Based Compensation. We got paid by the amount of food cases, elevator, steps down or up, dumb waiter, amount of stops, mileage. One day a week, this was back in 2001, we averaged $35 per hour with mileage, stops, case count, premium stop but other days I made half that some days. #Lockboss
#lockboss from Norwich NY. I do 99% commercial locksmith work townships government work and most of the work is IC Core Medco Assa what is the general chare for work like this? Can you do a show on commercial locksmith charges.awesome show.
With the mark up margins with Key Control and High Security. Your Locksmiths should push to up sell security. Most customers are not knowledgeable on what is out there. We attend trade shows to get a head of what is hot and new to the industry. I left working for local Locksmith Companies because I had the ambition to sell when they wanted to stay in a comfort zone. I'm looking to work for Lock Manufacturers in Sales now. I could achieve more income for me and my family. I always had enough to pay bills. I have nothing while owners are building their wealth. Thank you for bringing up this topic that has never been discussed. I did get 1% on $1,000 safe and under 3% on $1,000 and over. 5% on $5,000 safe sales.
I never got the chance to start my career to work under anyone. I wish I did so i can learn..But now I have been doing locksmithing for 3 years and doing pretty good at it, i could never (probably not) be able to work under anyone..The Pay is too different. I can make a car key for $150 takes about 30 minutes- but if i go work under someone else, ill be be paid hourly and wouldn't earn nearly as much. However, I do understand the over head, the materials, equipment, that I wouldn't need to buy let alone have to get the cliente- that is the hard part. Its just psychology I suppose...I would like to work for a company who pays commissions
I’m just a one man show. But when I meet a customer at the job. I walk the job really quickly with the customer and make sure everything is working properly. If I see a problem I ask the customer have they been having any problems with the particular problem I see. When they say yes. I simply offer an explanation why they’re having a difficulty with the problem. And suggest a solution. And if they are ready to do it right away. I back off and let them know if or when they’re ready I can come back and fix it. Note to new locksmiths. Keep any product on your vehicle that you’re comfortable to offer to the customer. Don’t worry about carrying stuff you have difficulty installing or explaining. Keep up sales simple
As a locksmith for 20 years commission is definitely not the way. I was a school locksmith up north for 10 years wanted to make a move to florida talked to a shop owner promised me more pay per hour benefits retirement etc. The minute i left and moved down no hourly just commission drove around in a van for days wirh one job in 12 hours for 20 bucks. With a big house payment that was not going to cut it. Also the techs that were here longer would cherry pick the good jobs and leave me with nothing. So hourly is the best way for locksmiths with alot of years of experience 30 to 35 is a great rate.
So much great information #lockboss

Could you consider producing an updated video on finding work as a locksmith?

Very interesting #Lockboss discussion. Great idea about the 'complimetary check' of other doors/access points!
Great video, and I like long formats like this. I feel that locksmiths starting out need a nitch such as residential high security or institution locksmithing. #LockBoss
We have had similar ideas discussed in our quarterly business meeting. Interesting points on production based commission for your technicians.
