At this point you guys should really build the slant 6. There's a bunch of speed parts for them, and the prices of things like rods etc are pretty reasonable. The stock pistons in these engines can actually take a lot of boost. The top ring land is thick AF. Add some ring gap and throw a set of rods in it. Guarantee you guys can make 350hp/450tq at the wheels with a cam and valve spring upgrade and some more boost.
@@StayTunedTA Please consider it! That would be way more interesting and entertaining than a V8 swap. Also, pre 76' slant 6 cranks are forged, so no worries there either
They definitely hit the peak of what they could do with the slanty boosted its breathing pretty hard to make maybe 220 horsepower lol barb said 5000 pounds that’s a pipe dream the thing maybe weighs 4000 pounds with both guys in it it’s just a small displacement motor giving all shes got. I’d call it a win if you guys did this with a 292 Chevy or a 300 ford you would definitely have had more monstrous power but that little 6 banger is beating it’s heart out and it’s pumped out some great content. Deserves a build. Call up Steve dulcich he’ll know how to get some good numbers out of it (probably head work)
@theeoddments960 They definitely haven't hit the peak of what they can do with that engine... There's Bonneville guys who spin these things to 7500rpm and make north of 500hp. The thing is bone stock other than the turbo. Of course it's breathing hard to make 220..
More Mortsky repair who has a RUclips channel & has been on it for many years came up with this & has T shirts you can buy plus other stuff he sells on his RUclips channel. He mainly buys old cars trucks that have been sitting for many years and tries to get them up and running & he keeps the ones he like & sells the others off to keep his shop open and to be able to buy more cars and to keep pushing out RUclips content. He has a springer spaniel dog he named Duff and the dog loves to riding in these cars trucks he buys to a point that he cant say go for a ( r i d e) because the dog knows what that means & he gets excited . He was recently building a SBC with a blower on it to put in one of his old cars that came out of a ex drag car but found out it had damaged pistons from something it sucked in through the blower before he bought the car but very little damage was done to the rotors inside of the blower once taken apart but haven't seen him lately working in the engine .
Don't forget Dirthead Shed! I'm a little surprised Finnegan doesn't drop on Friday's as opposed to Sunday mornings 🤔 Are these guys the Four Horsemen of Weekend RUclipsrs??? 🤣
Until you get a real transmission jack, you can do the old school trick of getting two long bolts to fit the bellhousing (4-6 inches, longer is better) with only about the first inch threaded. Cut the head off the bolt and taper the ends so it aligns with the transmission holes easier. If you want to get fancy, you can cut a screwdriver slot into the end. Use them as guide pins to put the transmission on. It will even make it easier to align the input shaft in through the clutch plates and into the pilot bushing without having to muscle the transmission into place at the same time. Thread in the two of the transmission bolts and tighten down. Then you can remove the guide pins and put in the remaining two transmission bolts. You can do this with automatic transmissions also, just use shorter bolts.
The third generation A70 Supra (non turbo) mfg from ‘86-93 ran 0-60 right about 8.0 seconds. You are right on the heels of a very popular sports car of that era.
I would recommend hooking up the pcv valve, It would help with the oil in the catch can and would help with preformance. I ran my slant without one for 2 years and when I finally hooked it up it made a huge difference with oil consumption and power and made the engine a whole lot healthier. Could just hook it up to the piping under the carb if the doesn’t have a pcv port
The genuiness of this program just astounds me - there are five others that I am familiar with (y'all know who they are) in the same real world vein, but Stay Tuned is definitely in the rare air and the rest are just so much tripe! Stay honest and thirsty my friends.
They had one of these trucks with the 318 at my first job 25 years ago. Everyone flogged it mercilessly and it just kept going, tough little truck. This build definitely had the nostalgia factor kicked up for me, great job guys!
Turbo inline 300 fords are a bunch of fun . I love the slant 6 engines too. I had a 65 D100 stepside shortbed with a slant 6 and a 4 speed. I drove for 20 years and it literally never gave me a single problem. Just did semi regular maintenance. I put probably 5 - 8 k miles on it yearly. Ant it was 25 years old when I bought it
I second the windshield urethane, same trick Gose with engine or suspension bushing you want more out of but don't want to step up to urethane or solid. Smooth on (good videos on there channel, recommend ) make a poorable urethane in different hardness as well if you want to make you own or do something like cut down an air cleaner for something hard to get and re poor/pot the end again( done it to round style that the diameter was right but were too long for a old Alfa Romeo Juliet) Hope this helps someone
Hey Tony, I just got done re-watching one of my favorite episodes of Roadkill, the one where you and Finnegan ran Drag Week. I'd always liked you, but that episode was where I became a Tony Angelo fan for life. The way you crawled under that car, manhandled that transmission, rebuilt it on a card table and jammed it back in there is one of the most legit things I've ever seen. In the interview at the end of the show, Finnegan said he couldn't have won it without you, and he was right. Your calm positive presence kept him from getting worked up when things went wrong. You couldn't ask for a better crew chief! With over 300K subscribers, it sure looks like your gamble with Stay Tuned is working out, and I'm really glad it is. Now if you'd just reveal what show "We're gonna lose the shop!" is about!
The problem with negative pressure on the compressor side is that the oil pulled through the seals is going to go in the charge air with the fuel. Oil in your fuel charge massively lowers the octane rating. That plus boost means it’ll ping its head off possibly literally. Check your plugs and think about seeing how cheap that seal the VW tragics is to do. I wanna see this thing go faster so it’s gotta stay healthy!
A rough rule of thumb is that you can approximate the mixing octane rating of oil as 0. So if the fuel consumption:oil consumption ratio is 9:1, you would lose about 10% of your fuel octane. 100 octane race fuel would drop to about 90 octane, for example.
To get around issues with the turbo's dynamic seal, you fit a throttle body to the manifold where the carb once mounted and connect it with either a cable or linkage to the carb..this then acts as a vacuum break and the turbo is no longer affected by the off throttle vacuum and will no longer leak oil...I like to use LS throttle bodies as they are the most available.
This and the Lincoln are definitely my favorite Stay Tuned builds. I really want to see the Lincoln dialed it at the track and maybe redo the budget hot side to flow better as that has a lot of potential.
thanks as always guys for keeping the cameras rolling. when Barb said "Madone" just all natural. i felt like i was back at my grandparents house with Family for the holidays.
Barb just a tip to strengthen and rebuild mounts get some alcohol or acetone and brush the old mount let dry now get some black tape and run it around the rubber part now put some silicon and fill up every cavity and if need be slide some long nails into it for a more rigged mount. Great show guys you never disappoint.
Back in my 'ute, we saw a few slants glowing that were bricked into a tree, that ran outta gas, instead of blowing... In the late 70's a guy that ran at US131 drag way had a 62 Valiant that was turning 11's with a slant. Learned a few tricks, but most were in the "Direct Connection" catalog. Bought a 2 bbl intake from him for $65, ported the head & ran great for a 6, lol. Love what y'all have started for Barb, can't wait to see what else ya tune-up! Thanx !
This is the type of stuff I love. Don’t get me wrong the 1000hp+ builds are cool and all but I really relate with just a couple of dudes trying to make an old pile faster and just enjoying it for what it is.
This was a great episode, LMAO when Barb dropped the F bomb any Tony's response 🤣. Hey Tony, I thought my 86 GTI was a rocketship also, very fun car. ✌️
Some of the issues with drawing oil in to the combustion chamber is it lowers the octane of the fuel and can raise compression due to having liquid rather than vapor in the chamber.
HellYeah Boys!! When’s this truck getting a set of Mickey Thompsons? Didn’t see anything this cool at Mecum today. Beer and a Slice Time! Ready to Stay Tuned 🤘🤘🔥🔥
The Mr. cool mini split is a great air conditioning heating system. I got to DIY model for my cottage and it works absolutely great for the last two years so far.
I wish I could send you guys an aluminum 2bbl or Clifford 4bbl intake for that slant and Holley Sniper EFI or some sort of TBI blowthrough, a cam, high flow exhaust manifold, electronic ignition and electronic wastegate so you could nerf the boost by gear and increase the boost and timing upstairs past the TQ spike to allow more peak power and increase the rpm range of the engine a bit. I bet it could handle 300-350whp if it was able to be tuned perfect with a few mods to help the baseline power. I suppose it's not worth it so much since a V8 swap is so easy at a certain point in comparison. A stroked out LA or B block does sort of just make more sense. If any Aussie viewers could send a Hemi 6 from down under that would be sick...nobody on YT in the USA has built one yet.
I can't wait for the episode of Stay Tuned that starts off with the comment about the turbo compressor seal played at half speed a few times which then cuts to Tony looking like a guilty labrador retriever. Fun times ahead!

I bought a pair of brunt marins, after a couple months of abusing them, the sole started the peel in a few spots, and I was past my 30 day return period but brunt made it right and sent me another pair, great company
When i went off to college I got a 78 Dodge Aspen with that probably that same combo. Slant 6 with a 4 speed (3+OD). The rest of the car feel apart around it, but the engine and trans were still good when I gave it to the junkyard. Had somewhere north of 300k.
The video is easier to watch if you fast forward through the ads and music, lol Those are great trucks, I have a few, a 225, a 318, and a 360. Those OD 4spds are tough as nails, the only downside is the gap between 3rd and 4th. My '81 shortbed stepside is lowered and has modified geometry with the Van lower control arms and a Jeep TJ tierod flip kit to eliminate most of the bumpsteer and camber gain. You can make those trucks handle so much better with that and some stock anti sway bars. I've been creeping ever closer to turboing the Slant in my truck, after watching the last episode I just ordered the turbo and am going to make it whistle. Thanks for showing us old guys how to just jump in and make with the turbo scene
You guys got me excited to put a turbo on my 250 I6 in my 73C10. I found a company in Arkansas (G-Pop Shop) that will install carbon seals and sent them the ebay turbo i ordered...ive still got a while before im ready for the turbo because im throwing a cam and reworked head on it too!

I used to have an 81 D100 slant 6 4 speed short bed. Bought it for $400 running and driving. Two tone brown and tan with a red bench seat. It was in great shape. Sold it maybe 15 years ago and I've kind of regretted it ever since.
Hey guys big fan of Stay tuned im down in Australia and i have a 1970 VG sedan valiant that came with a 245 hemi im looking to boost it in the future you have given me so much info and inspiration I thank you so much Keep up the awesome work
coupla things i noticed during these vids/commenting at around the 17 min mark,so i havent watched the whole vid yet. the flywheel you picked was a Great choice, its less rotational mass and spins faster. the Intake you are using is actually the 1 barrel intake !! Restrictive ! check out the 225 Super slant six for the Bigger 2bbl intake/OR bore that 1bbl intake opening as wide as you can get it and reweld the pipe onto a new flange. the Trans case there, the main body is that an Alum body or cast? if alum Swap it asap, they Will frag and grenade themselves esp considering the new power levels. you could also thereotically swap in a Regular 4 speed 833,depending on what Barb wants this truck to do when its finished. ps,these slant six motors use a Nylon Gear on the Distributor
I’m so glad y’all started this channel. I look forward to your uploads every week. Please never change. Hanging with the boys making things go fast. Keep rocking my dudes. 🤘
That's awesome.......I remember when I had a dodge truck with a slant 6 engine no lie I had it to the floor and that truck would not go over 60 mph. It crazy how my truck never went 60 nph.

You guys got me excited to put a turbo on my 250 I6 in my 73C10. I found a company in Arkansas (G-Pop Shop) that will install carbon seals and sent them the ebay turbo i ordered...ive still got a while before im ready for the turbo because im throwing a cam and reworked head on it too!
stone loves this --good job
It was a child good dream to turbo a slant 6. Dreams really do come true
Hello sir. I just got started on an 83 dodge ram stepside. Please make more content relating to this very truck with the slant.
Iya my first project with a carbureted motor. Im loving the channel and you are pulling on my heart strings. Buying you guys pizza from cowabunga pies!!!

Barb dude she’s a ripper! Tony y’all are really making it tempting for me to turbo my slant six valiant! Barb thanks again for the info and convo on instagram today. You guys are the best! Keep the content coming!
Draw through just makes so much more sense 👌
I used to have an 81 D100 slant 6 4 speed short bed. Bought it for $400 running and driving. Two tone brown and tan with a red bench seat. It was in great shape. Sold it maybe 15 years ago and I've kind of regretted it ever since.
Love this truck and love that you’re playing with it!!
Hey guys big fan of Stay tuned im down in Australia and i have a 1970 VG sedan valiant that came with a 245 hemi im looking to boost it in the future
you have given me so much info and inspiration
I thank you so much
Keep up the awesome work
I have many projects that are now going to be put on the schedule in Neverary.
Thanks for that.
coupla things i noticed during these vids/commenting at around the 17 min mark,so i havent watched the whole vid yet.
the flywheel you picked was a Great choice, its less rotational mass and spins faster.
the Intake you are using is actually the 1 barrel intake !! Restrictive !
check out the 225 Super slant six for the Bigger 2bbl intake/OR
bore that 1bbl intake opening as wide as you can get it and reweld the pipe onto a new flange.
the Trans case there, the main body is that an Alum body or cast?
if alum Swap it asap, they Will frag and grenade themselves esp considering the new power levels.
you could also thereotically swap in a Regular 4 speed 833,depending on what Barb wants this truck to do when its finished.
ps,these slant six motors use a Nylon Gear on the Distributor
Tony, please bring it to Carlisle Truck Nationals!!!!
I’m so glad y’all started this channel. I look forward to your uploads every week. Please never change. Hanging with the boys making things go fast. Keep rocking my dudes. 🤘
Thank you so much!! Really appreciate it.
Hey tony its eric was awesome meeting you guys and hope you had fun ripping my canam
Keepin’ that slant sixer alive! Keep on truckin’!
Hell yea, let's gooo!
Sweet!! It may not be in the budget ,but a non OD A833 would probably knock off some time 1st to second 2 gear drop
Yea definitely, the gear splits in the OD A833's kinda suck for performance
That was in impressive burnout at the end. Can’t wait to see where else this one goes. It looks like a lot of fun.
That’s just plain fun! Good job y’all.
MOPAR content!!! Love it. You guys ROCK 🤘
That's awesome.......I remember when I had a dodge truck with a slant 6 engine no lie I had it to the floor and that truck would not go over 60 mph. It crazy how my truck never went 60 nph.
This is the best thing I've saw in the entire year. AMAZING work Tony & Team!!
Thanks for doing projects that are different, this time showing the potential of a pickup with a slant six.
