I think I now know what Guilliman's unique genetic trait is. It's the talent for angering and alienating his brothers and allies while somehow still maintaining his reputation for being the 'good' primarch. Also: lol stupid smurfs, expecting your enemies to play by your rules.
There were alot more than five loyalist survivors on Isstvan V. Losses were very heavy but the survivors were in their thousands, especially Raven Guard. The survivors scattered to the mountainous terrain and waged a guerilla war until they could be rescued.
The simple awnser is neither it's 40k there is very little subjective good. For a more satisfying awnser the fallen are either renegade or traitors outright the angels as a whole are good. The sons of Alpharius/Omegon is a bit more complicated they lean more chaos, but to what extent we simply don't know. Omegon stayed loyal but went MIA I suspect had Alpharius survived I think he would be a daemon primarch by now. In my head canon the legion was split more down the middle due to having two primarchs with mixed loyalties.
An interesting perspective I find with the Alpha Legion is when given the choice of being traitors for chaos but saving humanity or dooming it and be loyal the alpha legion said fuck you and did both. Keeping humanity alive through perpetual war keeping humans from being able to turn on one another in true scale like it did during the heresy

I love the cor scheme of this Legion to death but the lore is in that weird place to where they can't add anything to it so the just kind of wing it and use the Alpha legion as a free pass rather than genuine force to be reckoned with
@@weatherreport9227 They are more nuanced. It's all about maneuvering an Enemy into it's weakest point then attacking with all the might of Astartes. It's very effective. They don't care about Glorious Battle.. they just want to win by any means neccessary. That's what makes them a Force to be reckoned with.
I can not understand who made the choice to destroy the only legion who legitimately could have infiltrated chaos cults and even the eye. Could have provided real actionable intelligence and brought the fight to the enemy on there doorstep. In my not so humble opinion Alpha legion is by far the most intriguing, intelligent, flexible, deadly, basically the most useful and damn sexy!!
