Okay, everyone who is jealous raise your device....YUP!
    Just about everyone!!!
About 35 years ago, I stayed at the El Tovar, with a canyon view which was spectacular! And lazy breakfast in the dinning room was grand.
Attempted the Bright Angel Trail...nope! It was February, and ice ponds within the first drop. I wasn't going to risk a life slide!
Definitely one of the most spectacular places I have ever viewed. No photo frame large enough to appreciate the "Grand". Not even in my mind. Must be experienced!
Thanks for allowing us to tag along on your October expedition.

Our stay at the El Tovar over 35 years ago wasn't quite as grand as yours. It was New Years day night; our son got the flu and threw up everywhere. They were short on staff so we had to go out and hunt down fresh linens. But now we can look back and laugh about it. Our son thought that's what being "homesick" was.
You were smart to avoid the trail in winter. It is an ice rink.

Maybe the best thing about your month-long meander through that stunning landscape was how you seemed to miss the throngs of tourists most places & yet the weather wasn't too extreme (or you were able to scoot quickly to where it was better - that's the real value of bringing your bed & bathroom & kitchen along for the ride with you!)

What a wonderful- wonder full trip! Loved your summary intro. Your Grand footage brings back so many memories for me. I worked as a waiter at the El Tovar dining room and volunteered for the NPS issuing backcountry permits for 3 seasons when I was in college back in the 70s. The first year was 1976 when Kolb Studio was still operated by the Kolbs. Sadly, I didn’t explore it more fully when I had the chance. It was closed after that with the passing of Emory Kolb. You made a great choice to hike to the 1.5 miles resthouse. I used to recommend to visitors that they hike down to at least the first tunnel. I belong to a Grand Canyon Hikers Facebook group… where too many first time visitors contemplate hiking to the bottom and back in a day. Thanks for the reminder that it is time to go back!
